I'm visiting my sister for my birthday today, cinco de mayo, I wanted shrimp and grits so I just found the closest place that had them. My sister had never heard of this place but I noticed they have excellent reviews so I wanted to give them a chance. This place is like in a little strip mall, not too difficult to find. I went inside and ordered the shrimp and grits to go. The price was good just $17 and it comes with a salad. I waited about 7 minutes and my food was ready. I didn't open it till I got home and just looking at it I knew it was going to be good. The sauce looked great. I tasted it and golly g it was sooo good, the best shrimp and grits I've ever had. By the way the grits have corn in it. It was amazing, my sister tasted it and agreed it was the best we've ever tasted. I want to taste more food from there but I'm going back to Texas. Adding a picture.

Easy review! Service=Awesome!, Food=Awesomer! Ambiance=Good I ordered the meatloaf which is the best I have ever had including my own home cooked. There was not the normal tomato coating on the outside and gravy was on the side. I prefer it dry but like the option if I wanted to add it. Fried okra was crispy and hot. Mashed potatoes and brown gravy was a hit. The food portion was enough for two meals. Don't miss out on the opportunity to eat here. Eat Local, support local, Enjoy!

I really enjoy dining at Home Cooking Cafe. If you're craving some comforting, hearty food, this is the perfect spot! The dishes are tasty and bursting with flavor. They offer generous portions at a fair price. The staff always provides excellent service. Plus, the restaurant has a warm, inviting atmosphere and is kept spotless.

Bread Pudding and BBQ Shrimp and Roasted Corn Grits Both are delicious! I can eat the shrimp and grits every day and never get tired of it.

We found this cafe when some family visited from out of town and wanted "local food." Everything was great and tasted homemade. The service was so friendly and couldn't have been better. We found a gem and the family was happy!

Real comfort food. Whenever I eat out, I ask what is made in - house so I can order the best possible meal. Gus' meatloaf - I grew up eating meatloaf and I was in the mood for "homey-mommy" food. It was very good, like good homemade meatloaf. Two thick slices. I eat my meatloaf with ketchup, so I made a little ketchup pool on the side of my plate and dipped meatloaf bites as I ate. I also love meatloaf sandwiches and I bet this meatloaf, served cold, would be good on sliced sandwich bread. Sides- Mac n cheese- tasty, creamy béchamel-based, mildly cheesy sauce. Sauce was poured over the pasta. The pasta was penne not macaroni. Sauce was good, but I would have preferred a sharper cheese for some tang. Also, the mac n cheese was served lukewarm, not hot like it should be. Red beans -n-rice- tasty, well- cooked beans, smokey , meaty pork chunks, nicely seasoned. They even left Bay leaves in the beans. Love that. Cornbread- moist, sweet, fluffy, nice texture. Very good. NY style Cheesecake- i love cheesecake but i was not a fan of theirs. Its texture was grainy, not creamy/smooth. It lacked flavor and tang. Crust was bland. Overall, it lacked brightness. It was served with chocolate sauce that tasted like Hershey's syrup from a bottle. Definitely would not order that dessert again. Arrived for an early dinner at 5p. I was greeted when I walked in, staff is friendly, staff is knowledgeable about the menu and how things are prepared. Service was prompt and staff checked in regularly after serving. Business was steady with lots of takeout orders, and regulars dining in. This place needs a good scrub down on the interiorpp. It's looking neglected. Also the floors in the restaurant and bathrooms are very dirty and really need a good scrub. I give it four out of five stars because of the dirty floors and grainy cheesecake. I doubt I will return because I just can't stop thinking about the dirty floors.

Really enjoyed the meal today. I would suggest that you stop by for a visit, you won't be disappointed. Keep up the good work...

5 Star for the food 5 Star for the service. The server was really helpful and knowledgeable of the menu and portion. 5 Star for experience. We stop by during lunchtime and it was obvious that everyone was well taken care of of.

I like to meet up with friends for lunch and try different restaurants but it seems they all requested to come back here again. Service is always great and the food is well seasoned and delicious. The food portion is a lot and I usually have overs. I would suggest ordering a few different items in the menu and sharing it so you would all get a chance to taste each other's food and find your favorite. I have tried more then a few on the menu and there was nothing I didn't like, everything was delicious but my favorite is the Travis Wings and Shrimp Fried Rice,

My other sister ordered the breakfast croissant, and I had the smash burger, which practically melted in my mouth. Of course, we had to save room for dessert! It's always nice to find a place that offers a little something different instead of the usual tourist fare. I went with the Shrimp Carbonara, and the portion size was impressive. The dish was loaded with large, juicy shrimp and packed with flavor. It was one of those meals that looks great when it arrives and somehow tastes even better once you dig in. The service was quick, friendly, and kept everything moving smoothly, which was appreciated after a day of exploring. My only minor critique--and this is purely personal preference--would be that I would have preferred the shrimp tails removed. It certainly didn't take away from the meal, though. In fact, it led to one of the funniest moments of the trip when I squeezed a tail to remove it and accidentally launched it across the table toward one of my buddies. Thankfully, my aim was terrible, but the table got a good laugh out of it. Great food, generous portions, fast service, and a fun atmosphere. Saint Claire is a truly unique restaurant located at 1300 Richland Road in Algiers. It is…read moreimpossible to appreciate the restaurant fully without mentioning the property itself, which is arguably the older and more remarkable part of the story. The historic building sits on nearly four acres beneath a magnificent grove of live oaks. The property was originally associated with a quarantine station serving ships and crews traveling upriver toward New Orleans, and the building that now houses the restaurant was reportedly the residence of physicians connected with that facility. During World War II, the site became Camp Algiers, an internment facility. The property subsequently served various federal purposes, including use by U.S. Customs and Border Protection and the Department of Homeland Security, before eventually falling into disrepair and later undergoing renovation. Today, Saint Claire occupies what is believed to be the last surviving medical-officer residence of the former New Orleans quarantine station--a property that subsequently became part of a controversial World War II internment camp and has now been given a remarkable new life as one of New Orleans' most distinctive dining destinations. The setting itself is lovely, and one of the restaurant's greatest practical advantages is the remarkably easy parking, something that should never be taken for granted in New Orleans. The ambiance is warm and inviting, while the service is prompt and polished. The servers are knowledgeable, attentive, and clearly familiar with the food and its preparation. The cuisine can best be described as French country cooking with a distinctly Louisiana twist. The menu manages to combine French technique and elegance with the flavors and ingredients of South Louisiana. The duck-andouille gumbo, for example, is a particularly imaginative interpretation, made with a chocolate roux that adds an intriguing depth and complexity. The jumbo lump crab gnocchi is considerably more delicate, served with lemon butter and fresh chives, allowing the sweetness of the crab to remain the star of the dish. I am genuinely rooting for Saint Claire's success, which I judge by what I call the Triple A's of a successful restaurant: Availability, Affability, and Ability--in that order. Saint Claire unquestionably scores high on the latter two. The staff is affable and knowledgeable, and the kitchen clearly has considerable ability. My concern, however, is availability. Making a reservation can feel remarkably similar to doing business with a health insurance company. The restaurant does not answer its telephone calls, although it will apparently return a call the following day. Reservations can be made through the website, but there is an additional wrinkle: the system defaults to a reservation on the patio rather than in the main dining room. For a restaurant of this caliber, the reservation process should be as seamless and welcoming as the dining experience itself. Saint Claire has many of the ingredients necessary to become a destination restaurant. The property is extraordinary, the setting is beautiful, the service is personable and capable, and the cuisine has both character and ambition. If the restaurant can improve its availability--making it easier for guests to reach the restaurant and, more importantly, to secure a table in the main dining room--it may well have the three A's in perfect order.

The Vintage - New Orleans, LA…read more The Vintage on Magazine Street was our very first food stop in New Orleans, and it turned out to be a great way for my wife and me to start our trip. From the moment we walked in, I really liked the atmosphere. The place has a cool, relaxed New Orleans vibe with a little bit of an upscale café feel without being overly fancy. It's the kind of spot where you can come in, sit down, enjoy some good food and drinks, and just take your time. Of course, we couldn't come to New Orleans and not start things off with beignets! We decided to go with the Fancy Beignet Flight, which gave us a chance to try several different flavors. We got the raspberry, s'mores, and Chantilly. They came out looking almost too good to eat, covered in powdered sugar with all the different fillings and toppings. Almost... because we definitely ate them! They were warm, sweet, messy in the best possible way, and a fun introduction to our New Orleans food adventure. For my meal, I ordered the Italian Panini with the truffle Parmesan fries. The sandwich was packed with meat, cheese, and flavor. Looking at that cross-section, they definitely weren't being stingy with the fillings! The bread was toasted nicely, and everything worked well together. The truffle fries were another highlight. They had plenty of seasoning and Parmesan and paired perfectly with the sandwich. I also grabbed a small iced mocha, which went really well with the food and especially the beignets. One thing I really enjoyed about The Vintage was the atmosphere. The interior has a lot of character, from the marble tables and vintage-style flooring to the bar and pastry display. It feels like a place that belongs on Magazine Street. It was comfortable enough that we didn't feel rushed and could just enjoy being in New Orleans together. The service was good during our visit, and everything came together for a really enjoyable first meal in the city. Our bill came to around $48 after tax and tip for the two of us, and considering we had a sandwich, upgraded fries, drinks, and the beignet flight, I thought it was a good experience for the money. Most importantly, this place gave my wife and me a great start to our New Orleans trip. When your first stop includes a loaded Italian panini, truffle Parmesan fries, iced coffee, and a whole flight of beignets, you know the trip is starting off right! Definitely a place I would visit again. Great food, great atmosphere, and a great first taste of New Orleans. 5 stars from us!

My last review was in 2020, and I'm happy to report that the quality and atmosphere remain top notch. Whether you are looking for a morning pick up or an evening wind-down, this spot covers all the bases. Their beignets and coffee are a classic must have, and I can personally vouch for their Americano. It is consistently well made and delicious. They also have a great selection of beer and cocktails if you're looking for something a bit stronger. What really sets this place apart, though, is the hospitality. We have always had great interactions with the staff, but a special shout out goes to Jimmy, whom we met this past week. He was incredibly kind and hospitable, truly making us feel right at home.
