    Great wine collection

Restaurant des Familles was a fantastic find. We stopped in after a fan boat tour with a group of 11, and they were able to seat us quickly with no problem. The staff was incredibly attentive, and despite our large group, drinks and food came out fast. Great wine and cocktail selection, and the food was excellent, plenty of options so everyone in our group found something they loved. Highly recommend this spot to anyone in the area!

The absolute best view from a restaurant in the world

This restaurant is a hidden gem and an amazing experience. For starters, the main dining room is situated right on the edge of the bayou. If the weather is right you will see wildlife, up to and including alligators! It's easily one of the most beautiful views I've ever seen in a restaurant. Ok, the food. Everything I have ever had on the menu is delicious. This time I had boudin balls, a Caesar salad, and the double cut pork chop with jambalaya. The boudin balls are great and the remoulade is so good that I kept it to dip the bread in! The salad dressing was great, very lemony and just fantastic. The pork chop was so tender and the glaze was delicious. The jambalaya is a tomato base, which I prefer (some people don't like that but they are wrong), with a little bit of spice, just enough to let you know it's there. I was too full for desert, and I'm sorry I missed that. The staff is great, very friendly and attentive. The most surprising thing is the price. With a view like that, coupled with the quality of the food, I expected the bill to be at least twice what it was. I've been here a few times and I'm always happily surprised when the check comes and it doesn't break the bank. If you are willing to take the drive you will have a wonderful time!

Friendly service and we were seated right away. Great view of waterway and did see several alligators. Alligator stuffed mushrooms were a great recommendation and I followed that up with blackened red fish! Tasty! Finished with bread pudding

Well worth the drive out to the bayou for either lunch or dinner! For an authentic Cajun experience, this spot is a must on your New Orleans visit. The food is excellent, and dining while watching the alligators makes it unforgettable.

What a hidden gem! The ambience and the view overlooking the small lake outback were quite nice. The alligator stuffed mushrooms with piquant red sauce were delicious. The crab cakes and BBQ shrimp both were truly divine.

This spot has all of the charm, hospitality, and delicious food Louisiana has to offer in one place! We stopped here after an airboat tour, and decided to share lots of small bites to be able to try more of the menu. Our server Monica took such good care of us; she was so quick and efficient and kind. Our food came out quickly and everything was incredibly delicious! Each dish was so special and flavorful in its own way, and the servings were more than enough to feed four of us. The owner Brooke also made sure we were taken care of from the moment we stepped in to the moment we left. Her energy is immaculate, and it definitely shows through in her restaurant. Thank you so much!

This place has an ambiance hard to find outside of Louisiana as most of the large windows surrounding the dining area give good views of the surrounding bayou (AKA swamps). They also have some alligators that tend to be in the rear area of the restaurant where the main dining room is located. The inside is a bit more of an upscale environment but most people are dressed very casually and I have eaten here in shorts and a t-shirt before. They have a decent bar here along with a nice upstairs private dining/event space. The majority of the menu seems be seafood with a large portion of that being of the fried variety. There is a smaller selection of non-seafood options and they also have a Sunday brunch. Everything I've had here has been good just not outstandingly memorable. The service has always been very friendly and efficient. This is a good stop for lunch before doing one of the nearby swamp tours and seeing an alligator drifting along in the bayou for your meal isn't guaranteed but it is a possibility. LaFitte National Park is very near to this place and if you get your directions turned around you might end up in the park instead of the restaurant (I never ever have done that or have I...). This place is a bit of a ways outside of New Orleans so make sure you get very good directions. My video review of Restaurant des Familles is here: https://youtu.be/2mUGK1hTkVA

After the swamp boat alligator tour we were hungry.. Yelp had great reviews on Restaurant des Familles and they did not disappoint. Great atmosphere with a view of alligators. The food is awesome ..we had the crabmeat Au-gratin and it was paired with butter seasoned bread ..AMAZING.. the service was spot on and the portions are HUGE.. my wife ordered a chicken sandwich...delicious...but it was bigger than her...my smothered catfish with jambalaya and étouffée was Soo good. I recommend this place DEFINITELY!!!

Came here with my girlfriend as a visitor after a sweaty swamp hike. The weather was extremely hot (100F) and it was good to get some rest and lunch. The ambience is pretty cool- it felt classy and more formal and most restauraunts. Service was generally pretty friendly and waitresses were helpful in picking food. One thing that sets this restauraunt apart is that there's a huge window showing several gators in a river habitat! They even fed them bread before our eyes and while dining, we were allowed to watch them eat and roll around in the sun. We got some amazing footage! We got the crawfish etoufee and the blackened redfish. The crawfish etoufee was one of the best if not the best that I've had in NOLA. The blackened fish was likewise super soft, tender, and flaky. I would definitely recommend this establishment for visitors to NOLA, and I'm sure locals love this place already.

    No alligators on this day

Food was great. Soft shell sandwich at lunch was very filling. Bread was fresh and crispy. Everyone was quite satisfied with their food, catfish and shrimp poboy! The ambiance is beautiful. Amazing view of swamp where on any given day you may see alligator moseyingly along! They were short staffed on the day we ate, but it did not take away from the food And the kitchen is wide open. As I past it, I was quite pleased to see how clean and sanitized it was. As I was leaving I noticed their pens said NOLA CAYE, which is one of my favorite restaurants in Downtown New Orleans. They also own that one, which is five stars as well

Went the Saturday evening before Mothers Day. Party of 8. Service and food was not good. Not one was satisfied. Won't be returning.

If I were rating atmosphere alone- 3 stars would be generous…read more I am rating product and service because adding "ambiance", would do those who work here and their product a disservice. It takes a while to get your order because of low staffing. That said, when you get it of course it's beautiful and tastes great. Sitting just around the corner from Bourbon St. and the hustle and bustle energy that you walk thorough to get here- walking in was disappointing. It's a large open space with seating- and it's QUIET. No background music. It gives late night diner vibes and honestly, that's too bad. Adding music, upbeat- doesn't have to sound like a club but music and having more energy between staff and customers would greatly improve the experience and I believe, increase business. If there were some Fats Domino or 90s R&B flowing out of speakers and staff were smiling, upbeat, dancing etc. it would give more "legendary" experience verses midnight diner vibe. That alone made me not want to come back. Not everyone wants to drink alcohol so stopping to sit for a well made artistic milkshake is a great option. The energy brings down the vibe and experience. Match the ambiance, service and vibe to your menu and 5 stars all day.
