I stumbled upon them a few months ago, and I was thoroughly enchanted. They had the best Carne Asada Tacos, and their refried beans were to die for. I look like a Gringo, but I'm half Mexican, and am VERY fluent in Spanish. I am PROUD of my heritage. The next time I came in, I ordered my carne guisada tacos and a pint of their delicious refried beans to go, the beans costing $9.99. The beans were great. The next time I ordered a pint of refried beans, they charged me over $16...and they were WATERY. They tasted like CRAP. They inflated the price and watered it down because they thought I was a stupid GRINGO that didn't know any better. They are RACISTS. I will NEVER eat there again. My Mexican mother would be ASHAMED of them. They perpetuate the negative stereotypes that Anglos have of Latinos. They SHAME their own culture. Ok, this is a tough one. I am not able to recommend. Not because anything was bad so much as to me it was just ok. And typically I prefer these small family run restaurants. Tacos in San Antonio is tough; there are some really good ones available. But here the homemade tortillas seemed a bit tough and the brekkie taco fillings were not hot but kinda warm. The combination of fillings I ordered on a couple tacos were mixed up, so I basically tried new ones. We showed up at 10:00 am so some stuff may not have been freshly prepared. It's a quaint little restaurant, with limited parking out front. Very clean. Folks very nice. Perhaps if this was outside Texas I might have a different opinion, but this one does not stand out to me and I will find tacos elsewhere in the future. read more

Nice lil hole in a wall gem ! Tucked along I-35 south bound access rd ,parking is a bit of an issue due to lack of space,and next to a hotel . Food is homemade ,with tortillas being the selling point .ok portions not overwhelming or kid size .but the flavor is beyond amazing which makes u forget about the size. If you read any of my other reviews I am a torta connoisseur. So when it's on a menu I tend to get it. Great torta, among the best I have had in SA. They get the bread right -- the inside is toasted with some butter on the grill so it has a slight crunch. Lots of incredients except could have use slightly more meat and and cheese. Nice fresh avocado and grilled jalapeños. Delicious overall. Slightly pricey at $8.50 for fajita but worth it. A lot of the prices have that recently adjusted sticker on them so suspect price hikes due to Covibideflation. read more

Don't go here for the breakfast tacos order three 2 bacon tacos, and a Barbacoa taco one of the bacon tacos have a strip of bacon and one didn't have any so I took it back to the restaurant and she told me that they were little pieces in it. I was wanting to know why one of my tacos got a strip and one little pieces if anything so I asked for a strip of bacon, and she said it was 75 so I just asked if she could remake my taco because my tortilla was all hard my tortil was crunchy as I'm waiting for my remake. Take it for what it is. It's not a place to come and sit and eat lunch. It's a place for a quick breakfast, or where you go and pick up tacos. Very disappointed in the menudo. The tripe wasn't cooked all the way it was still very hard and chewy/crunchy. We noticed the menudo was very dark but didn't think much of it until we tasted it and tasted the seasoning was very overpowering and can taste the seasoning powder. Big thumbs down for the menudo. They kindly offered a taco in return but the flour tortillas the brought out with the menudo were hard, probably old, and tasted off, so we opted out as we needed to get back to work. I came in yesterday. And had the huevos rancheros with sausage. The only thing I ate that day. By the ending of my shift at work I started feeling sick. Eventually getting a headache that would literally make me sweat. As soon as I got home I started puking out everything. Was facing the food I had ate here. I called today telling them what happen and the last thing I wanted to do was to leave a review. The "Manager" instead of insisting to get to the bottom of it with the kitchen staff at least she wants to argue with me about how proper they cook there food. I was in town for a work trip and had a late night followed by an early morning drive home to Houston. I was craving some good authentic breakfast tacos. Yelp led me to Lil Jonny's. I asked the waitress for her suggestion between the Chiliquilles and their breakfast tacos. She told me they had chiliquiles breakfast tacos so I didn't have to make such a tough decision. I ordered a chiliquiles rojo taco and a chorizo and egg taco. I asked for no cheese on either, which would have made them even better I am sure but I just wasn't in the mood for dairy. The chiliquiles needed a little salt (I bet with cheese they would have been perfect) but I loved them. The chorizo was awesome. The tortillas are a little bit thicker than I am used to, but the flavor was good and they held together perfectly. I really enjoyed the courteous staff, laid back atmosphere and good food. The staff knew several patrons by name which was cool to see. I want to go back and try more in the menu, everything the other patrons got looked great. read more

I stopped here on a whim for a breakfast taco before work. The service was fast and friendly and the tacos were cheap. I ordered one bean and cheese taco and one ham and egg taco. All was well in the world as I took my to go bag of tacos to my car and drove to work. Little did I know, the ham and egg taco that I ordered was so saturated with grease that it leaked through the bag and onto the seat of my car. I am not one to give up on a taco so easily, so I attempted to eat it despite of the grease situation. Hot taco grease was dripping out of the tortilla at all angles. It was actually horrifying, so I switched to the bean and cheese taco. I then realized that the beans in said taco had a liquid like consistency and also spewed out of the tortilla like a sad bean volcano onto my work clothes. Second time here with guest for quick lunch.....working at SAMMC you know what I mean.....plates cleaned off each time the old-fashion way...using our fresh made tortillas to sop up anything left by our forks.....Very large portions....have not tried the buffet style lunch.....but the Lunch Special "Calabacita con Pollo" was a flashback to Grandmas House........$5.99 with very Large Ice Tea is a HomeRun!!!! They deliver....so I am calling in Breakfast Tacos for the SAMMC GI Clinic in the AM.....@ 99 cents each......cant go wrong with Lil Johnny's Taco House...just watch out for the speed-trap at the bend near the exit off 35...could end up being the most expensive Lunch you ever bought!!!!! This little place is a diamond in the rut. I have been staying at a hotel down the street and have been coming to San Antonio every year for the stock show. I found this place a few years ago and stop to get breakfast most mornings. Can't beat the price and food very good. Green sauce is good as well. Only tried lunch one time and was pleased. Located close to Fort Sam Houston, I needed a quick bite to eat between meetings. I can't speak to their breakfast tacos, except that there was a steady stream of people with to go orders for their tacos. I sat down for breakfast, and enjoyed very friendly fast service. I opted for their Johnny's plate which came with a choice of meat, two eggs anyway you like, beans and potatoes. And of course two perfectly cooked awesome handmade tortillas! My eggs came out perfectly cooked just like I wanted them, over medium. I was unwilling to sacrifice the perfectness of my eggs and send my plate back to heat up the rest of my meal. Although the Barbacoa had awesome flavor and texture, it was lukewarm. The potatoes were clearly a mass ordered potato, pretty much no flavor. The refried beans were delicious, and my only complaint was that they were barely above room temperature. Evidently, other than the fresh cooked eggs, they have vats of the other stuff ready to serve And unfortunately it doesn't seem that any of it is kept hot. The coffee was OK. And the price was right. And they're green sauce was perfectly medium hot and very flavorful. Complemented my eggs wonderfully. Too many places in San Antonio to try, so I won't be back here. But glad I made the visit once. read more

Came here a week ago and was very disappointed. The staff was friendly but the service was extremely slow. There was another gentleman that walked in after I placed my order and he received his meal almost immediately while I was still waiting. I ordered a lemonade, 2 eggs, carne guisada, potatoes, beans and it came with 2 tortillas. The lemonade tasted like half a lemon was just squeezed into a glass of water. The carne guisada was very chewy and not good. The potatoes had no flavor. The beans were decent and the tortillas were the only thing that tasted great. I was told about this place by a coworker that said they had decent breakfast tacos and maybe that what I should have stuck with but I decided to give that plate a try. I might go back again just to order breakfast tacos to go but I definitely wouldn't recommend sitting and ordering a plate. read more

Tortillas are good but not what's in them. The service is good, but slow. Two tacos were mediocre, two were bad out of the four we tried. Great food and maybe the best green sauce your are going to find in San Antonio! Staff is friendly and quick. A little difficult to get to with the new highway exit. If you exit AT&T Center Parkway from I35 South you'll need to loop back through the industrial park(quick right on Hormel Dr, just keep to the right and you'll pop back out on I35 S. access road) but it's worth the trip! read more
