Look, you're not walking into the most exquisite nail salon here, and you're also paying slightly higher prices, but one thing that's always consistent here is the service and I've been going for almost seven years. Out of several of the salons in the area, I always find myself back at Lilac because they are quick, efficient, clean and friendly. I will admit, I rarely get polish done. The few times I've had regular polish done here, it has chipped after a couple of days. I could pay extra for the long-wear, but I don't need it. If I am getting my nails done, it is literally for some day-of event. I like that they have massage chairs for the pedicures, and also actual chair massages if you want to add on to your manicure or pedicure. The ladies are always nice and never pressure me into taking a more expensive package. They also always remember my preference of never having cuticles cut or having my nails painted and it's the little things that matter. read more

I have been a regular at this salon for almost 10 years. I get manicures pedicures wax and massage. Nancy even keeps my favorite color "peak show" in stock. Went in yesterday for an eyebrow wax, which was fine. It was so cold i didn't want a manicure (22°) but asked if my polish could be removed - took 30 seconds. When i went to pay was told it was $2 to remove my polish. Nowhere is this posted and I can pay but you just lost a regular customer. I paid $116 total. They burnt my leg, which they had to put a cold towel on for 2 hours before the redness went away, with their electrical gloves to remove powder, and then the manicurist was rude to me after I paid full price for everything and tipped. I was still polite after they burnt me because they apologized but when I told the manicurist Maria she did an extension crooked plus their was black lint in 3 of my completely white nails, the manicurist made them worse by buffing them unevenly after they dried leaving ridges and not fixing it. She said "I don't have time, just come back tomorrow" and started pressing her nail into my finger. Nancy, the manager, only refunded my manicure $50 but not my extensions $12 at first. Nancy said "I ain't refunding her pedicure for shit" to her coworkers who suggested it in Chinese because she didn't think I can't speak Mandarin. I told her in Chinese that I speak Mandarin too and please don't be rude because I am the one who said they can keep the pedicure cost and tip albeit they burnt me. What I am addressing is the hand extensions Nancy shouted she wasn't rude and that the pedicurist didn't burnt me, it was another staff member, so her point stands and demanded I give her my hand so she can cut off all extensions in order to refund them. Quick and easy spot for a totally acceptable manicure. I had a gel manicure that I got elsewhere and it had developed a really bad chip so I came in here for a quick removal and regular manicure before I could do any more damage to my hands. I called them at around 10 AM on Friday morning to ask the price. It was five dollars to remove the gel, which was cheaper than their competitors down the street. The cost of the manicure at $15 was the same price. I did not make an appointment. I ran across the street at around 11 AM. They are located next-door to Pinkberry and across from the entrance to the shopping mall at Columbus Circle. There was only one other customer when I got there, and I was taking care of it immediately in a pleasant manner. The nail technician, Coco, who attended to me, was wearing an attractive black small talk with the name of the salon on her left chest. All the employees there seem to be wearing similar smocks although somewhere in a different color. Not sure if that means anything. Coco did a great job of taking off my gel. She did the usual acetone and tin foil wrapping up at the fingers. When it appear that it wasn't coming off easily, she wrapped my hands in warm towels. At that point she offered me a shoulder massage but I knew they would charge extra so I declined. I saw that a 10 minute massage cost $13. This seems typical for the area but more than what I was willing to pay. The salon was still pretty quiet as she finished up taking off my gel. By about 1130 folks started coming in and it got much busier. Probably a good idea to have an appointment although they did seem to be some chaos about understanding who had an appointment with whom and at what time. It was not a big deal but the affected clients seemed a bit flustered. The actual manicure was perfectly good. She followed my instructions as far as my nail shape and the amount of coats of nail polish I wanted. They do an interesting thing here when they put the lotion on your hands. They have pre-prepared plastic gloves with the lotion in them and they pull the gloves over at your hands and they soak that way. Pretty great idea! After about 40 minutes my manicure was done and I sat in the dryer. It's the next day and my nail polish is still intact which is about all I can expect on a regular manicure, and why are usually get gel. My star that I took off is because of their ridiculous policy about credit cards. They have a sign that says credit card minimum $20. I did not have any cash with me. They request the tip in cash. None of this is a problem, however when she ran my credit card it came back with a charge of $20.20. She had not told me there would be a fee with a credit card. Quite frankly, I think a fee on the credit card when you're above the minimum that they have posted is appalling. In fact it's downright illegal for them to do it, without letting you know there is a fee. It put a bad taste on what otherwise was a fairly excellent experience. So keep this in mind if you go to this salon. TL/dr: Great place for a quick mani, if you go early in day & pay cash. read more

Been here thrice and despite being pricier than many other Asian-run nail salon, I always get what I paid for: flawless and long-lasting work on both my SNS Manicure and Gel Pedicure. I availed of a 15-min back rub once while waiting for my old manicure to soak off, and it was quite nice! They also put plastic gloves on your hands so you don't have to worry about accidentally removing the foil wraps. Staff is welcoming, and light-handed and efficient when working. My niece was visiting from out of town, we were in the area, and the prices on their board seemed "normal" for NYC. However, that is NOT what they ended up charging us; 80+ dollars for one basic mani/pedi. When I asked to clarify the final bill, they said that my niece had requested some extras, which I later found out it was not true. Just got my nails done and came home to find my cuticles bleeding! I told her several times that it hurt while she used the machine to remove the cuticles but she kept going. She used the machine to shape my nails as well, but did an extremely poor job at making it all look even. She was also very distracted and would keep looking around. She ended up chipping off the polish from two of the nails and had to redo the dip powder. All my cuticles are completely shaved off as shown in the pictures. A lot of my skin went along with that. I have cuts in almost every finger but some ended up bleeding. I am so disappointed and would never recommend this place. It was the worst nail experience I've had. read more

I came here with my husband around 7:20pm for a simple manicure for both him and me. Because they took us in and we knew they closed at 8:30pm we paid in cash and chose the easiest manicure possible and were super appreciative that they decided to take us last minute. It didnt seem busy at the time there was only one other customer. The woman doing my nails was very angry (maybe because we came in last minute and she wanted to leave). If that was the case she could have just said no I cannot do your nails at this time. She was so harsh with my hands, she burnt my thumb while trying to use nail glue to seal one broken nail. They have plastic wrap on the chair for each customer and everything is one time use. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE DO NOT go here for a gel manicure. This is my first review ever and I've never felt compelled to do one until now. I went in for a basic color gel mani on a Tuesday evening and the total with tip came to $64. TWO DAYS later my manicure was chipping and by Friday all of my nails were chipped. I called Friday afternoon to see if they could fix them because I noticed there were signs in the salon that said if your gel mani chips within 7 days we will fix it for free. They said that they would fix all of the nails. Great. When I come in that evening I had a different technician and she filed down the top coat and she said she would "add another coat". But what happened was as she added another coat, you could still see the chipped layer and she left it like that. Plus the polish looked extremely streaky. Please note that I came to get my nails fixed on a Friday and it all peeled off like a sticker from my nails that following Monday. DO NOT GO HERE. Over priced and I've gone to cheaper salons where my gel mani has lasted over a month. read more

So I've been to this place a few times for a pedicure and i hate to say I've only been multiple times because I was in a hurry or didn't know where else to go. I just finished a spa pedicure that was advertised to be $60 and when I got the bill it came to $64. I asked why and she said it was due to tax. I've never seen this at any other nail salon but okay whatever. WhenI handed the woman my card she said "cash?" to me as if a card wasn't an option she ended up taking my card anyway. After bringing me the receipt to sign she sits next to me and waits for me to sign. I felt like this was her waiting to see if I would leave a tip. It felt very strange and I felt pressured almost. I didn't leave a tip on the card. I'm still drying my nails right now and she's waiting right near me like not really giving me any space. This is my go-to place for the best chair massage in midtown. All of the staff are excellent and manager always recognizes my face when I come in. Cici (Jennifer) was especially fantastic today and asked me if I also wanted a foot massage. I realized I needed a pedicure so this afternoon became a little "treat yourself" self-care experience. The foot massage was also amazing and Cici did a great job with the pedicure too. I walked in on a Sunday afternoon and they were able to accommodate. The technician I had today while removing my gel nail polish was very rude. Not sure why she was so aggressive and aggravated with me. I kindly asked her if she could check a spot which had left over nail polish. She very rudely raised her voice and said "not yet finished!" I understand she wasn't finished, but there's no need to be rude. She also wasn't gentle while handling my hands. She was extremely rude and unpleasant for no reason. Not sure how technicians can be aggressive and expect a full tip. I still tipped her even though she didn't deserve it given her rude and angry attitude towards me. I will not be coming back. I've never had a gel manicure chip same day. Usually they last around 2 weeks. At $65 you'd expect the quality to be better! I'm not sure if they are thinning out their polish to make it last longer or perhaps not setting it long enough in the UV light, but this is the worst gel manicure I've ever had. It's so soft you can actually peel the whole thing off. Really odd, and not something I've seen before. I'd go back in and ask to have it fixed if I weren't flying out of town for a wedding.
