I literally went in because I saw it as I drove by. I personally have never been to a pierogi place, but they had an extensive menu of different types so I decided to go with the potato and farmer's cheese pierogi. Due to my ignorance I didn't realize that they were sold frozen foolishly enough, so I did cook them at home and they were delicious. I really hope I'm not the only one who ever made that mistake lol. PS, get the plum butter off the shelf, it's amazing! read more

If you want handmade, high quality Polish specialties, then Lilas in Livonia is the best place to go in Metropolitan Detroit. I have been going here for many years, but this is my first review of the business. They have many varieties of pierogies ($8-$10/dzn.) and every type I have tried is WONDERFUL. Recently, we have tried their Stuffed Cabbage (Golambki $12/ half dzn.) and they are EXQUISITE. My family used to get together to make these 2 items on an "assembly line". So we know how labor intensive these 2 items are to make. Do yourself a favor. Pass by those machine made, thick dough pierogies in the frozen section of the supermarket. Big hope. Big let down. First purchase was a disappointment and they tasted like old leftovers. I thought maybe it was a one off so I tried again. Second visit just confirmed my opinion. I know real Polish food. This isn't it. These are about as authentically Polish as chop suey is Chinese. Pierogi selection is awesome. They have everything from the basic staple pierogi, breakfast pierogi, pizza pierogi, and wonderful desert pierogi. All made fresh daily. On top of that I had been searching for stuffed cabbage but no luck finding any I really liked until I got from Lila's. Wow! Soo good!!!! Must try! To add to the temptation is the baked sauerkraut and it's amazing. Not to pungent and great flavor. Was never a huge sauerkraut fan before but now I am. To know: No inside eating. Sometimes run out of popular stuff but rarely. Everything is cooked fresh and flash frozen. (Nothing ready to eat) Food is really good. A must try! read more

Walked in at lunch without much of an idea for how the system works here. Find out that you buy the pierogis precooked and frozen. A couple dozen home for the wife and myself and my goodness were they good. Process is easy enough to heat up and fry. We had some extra so it was easy enough to just throw those in the freezer for later (I'll probably buy more next time to stock up). Immediately the wife commented how amazing the pulled pork ones were. The shop said they're a newer item so I hope they keep them going, they're fantastic. Everything else checked off all the boxes. Chose from some of the traditional favorites to keep it simple. Glad to find this place, staff is helpful and it's a straightforward setup with a simple menu. I tried the standards: --- stuffed cabbages, potato-onion-cheese pierogis, and sauerkraut-sausage pierogis. I grew up on homemade and church-made versions of Polish and German staples, lived in a polish-speaking neighborhood. I love the fare, though I am typically disappointed by anything available at restaurants, even the "Polish" ones. Lila's food was AWESOME, with care in making that showed. It tasted similarly rich to the dishes I grew up on, not the bland, cafeteria style Polish food around today. The person who helped me was probably the next generation or two from the original Lila, and was very friendly and nice, and aside from expressing the obvious pride for his craft and describing some of the quirky pierogis, said that the golabki's were their family's recipe. I loved the items I bought, and they have made a new customer of me, AND I have told my extended family. We love Polish food, don't like all the prep work, This is perfect!! read more

Lila's is a storefront, not a restaurant. They sell a wide variety of frozen pierogi as well as (frozen) stuffed cabbage and sauerkraut. Lila's will also do custom pierogi fillings if whatever you seek is not on their menu. Service is knowledgeable and prompt. The facility is clean. read more

I have a Polish mother in law and this place makes authentic polish pierogees and stuffed cabbage as good as hers. Service was great. The owner gave clear instructions how to reheat the food. You get paper instructions to take with you too. Cute hole in the wall ambiance. Not a sit down restaurant but great for pick up a few days before you want this wonderful food! read more

Just moved back to MI after being gone almost 30 years. Neighbors recommended Lila's. I have eaten home made before but never had such tender dough in my life. It has become a family Christmas morning tradition to have Lila's egg, sausage & cheese and egg, bacon and cheese. And whenever we visit out of town relatives we are required to bring Lila's. We just take them out of the freezer the night before and cook them in the morning. We would not go anywhere else for pierogi. read more

I married into a 100% Polish family where I was introduced to pierogi 40+ years ago. They always served Srodek's from Hamtramck at holiday meals, and I thought that was the Holy Grail of pierogi. Then my SIL introduced me to Lila's. The dough is so light, the fillings so flavorful -- and the variety is remarkable. And to Donna C who commented about religious tracts, I saw some tracts on a table. I didn't pick any up. No one said a word to me. They didn't put any in my shopping bag. I didn't grow up eating pierogi, but my almost 100-Year-old Aunt grew up in a Polish household in North Dakota and has been eating and making her own pierogi (famous in her family) for nearly all that time. She proclaims Lila's Pierogi absolutely delicious -- every Lila's variety she's tried -- with a wonderful dough. One lady behind the counter can be a little abrupt but, hey, I'm just there to pick up wonderful pierogi. I'll get my warm hugs when my Auntie sees those Pierogi! read more

Lila's has some of the the best frozen pierogis I've had. They're pre-cooked, so all you have to do is thaw and brown in a fry pan (try adding some onions). The potato cheese are probably my favorite, and I keep waiting for the time when the allusive blueberry are in season. Also, as odd as it may sound, their bacon, egg, and cheese, pierogis are good for a breakfast alternative. They also have sausage, egg, and cheese ones. Worth trying too! read more

Pierogi...Oh how I love these fried in butter with onion, like little pillows from heaven covered in sour cream. Lila's are homemade & awesome. They have many flavors. We tried the kraut & polish sausage, potato & cheese, & ham & cheese! I've never heard of ham 'n' cheese pierogi before...not bad! Before leaving, Lila suggested apple pierogi for dessert...they were great! Top with a little cinnamon & sugar...mmm. She also had blueberry...I'm going to buy those next time. Lila was really cool to talk to. I've only been to Lila's once and I loved it! Picked up a couple dozen for dinner and to freeze. The selection is outstanding! So many flavors both traditional and unique. We had the bacon and potato and the onion potato and chess. Plan on trying one of the more "dessert" choices. I was helped by Lila and she was very friendly! I happen to be driving in the Livonia area, taking my mother to the beauty salon, when I passed this place. I stopped in and bought five different types of their pierogi's. Roast beef, potato and cheese, potato cheese and onion, potato and garlic, and the potato cheese and bacon. When I came home, I let them thaw a bit, than cooked them in some butter and onion. I cooked one of each. I have to say that these are the best pierogi's I've ever eaten! They were so delicious, the dough was so light and all the fillings were perfect! I didn't know this place existed until I stumbled upon it while looking at a Google map. Being a fan of all things Polish, I had to visit. When the maker says singular "pieróg" and multiple "pierogi," not "perogies," you know that the product will be fairly authentic. Prices vary with most ~$7 per dozen, max $8.50. This is a great local place to go if your craving pierogi! You know they are homemade! They do come frozen so just keep thawing time in mind when you go and get some! Previous reviews of rude staff are not exaggerated In the least. Walked in and a woman came from the back who seemed agitated that I was even in the store so I kept to myself and quickly ordered. We recently moved to the area and I stumbled upon this place. We love perogi and I was really excited to have a local shop that sells them. The perogi were good, not great, but I like supporting local stores. However, the second time I went into this shop was one of the worst retail experiences I've had. There were some candies on the counter I had never seen before and I asked the woman behind the counter about them. She became rude and angry, giving me a full 5 minute lecture about how it's not her job to know about all the products they sell, how she's not going to try everything in the place (mind you it's tiny with few things on the shelves), and how she's sick of people asking her opinion on the products. Well I'm sorry, but being a part of a small business that sells specialty products means you should in fact know what those products are. In addition, you have to expect people to ask you questions about those products and you should be able to give an opinion on them. Regardless, I just asked about candy on the counter and was treated so rudely I turned around and left without buying anything. I will not be going back to this establishment. There are much better places in this region to find my weekly dose of perogi, with staff who are kind and respectful. read more

Found this space on accident since it was really near the auto shop I like. They only sell frozen pierogi's and have a dozen different different flavors. I fried a few up with a little butter, and they were quite satisfying. We had the potato and cheddar, but our favorite was the ham and jalepeno. This is the only place i go to buy pierogis!! They have so many its hard to pick, they even have great breakfast pierogis. If you shop at Kroger be sure to check the back of your receipts because there are coupons. I also noticed the kitchen is always very clean. Support local businesses! read more

I was looking for authentic pierogi to take to Easter dinner since the person who usually brings them is out of town. I was welcomed warmly when I walked in and expressed that it was my first time there. I ordered four dozen (potato and cheese, farmers cheese, sauerkraut, 1/2 dozen potato and jalapeno, 1/2 dozen plum). They are delicious! Everyone loved them from my husband's 93-year-old grandma to our friend's 1-year-old little girl. My husband said the sauerkraut are the best he's ever had. As already mentioned, this is a store front with a huge selection of pierogi ( approx.22 different flavors costing between $6 and $8 for a dozen). Our favorite is the potato, bacon and onion. Delish =) They are sold precooked and frozen so all you need to do is thaw and fry. They also sell 2 different sauerkrauts - the dill and garlic is wonderful. BUT, my oh my, we just tried the Gołąmbki and they were well-seasoned and scrumptious. As a few others have posted - they could probably improve their welcoming: customers often feel they are rushed -perhaps anxious to get back to their conversation in the kitchen but really, as long as they deliver the tasty goods, it's all good. read more
