These were so good, between two orders, we tried all of different ones available. We had the corned beef (the best one), buffalo chicken (second best), breakfast, spinach and artichoke dip, and the potato and cheese. I love that you can pick and choose and get a variety, and not just one type for the money. Very worth it since many places would not allow you to do that on a small order. They give you a tiny sour cream, which is a must for us. The sauerkraut was delicious on the side. I thought they were very nice, and efficient. We tried the "artichoke spinach" and the "potato cheese" at the Eastern Market on a Saturday. They were both delicious!! I generally prefer potato with out cheese but the cheese in these was super subtle so it worked out well. Don't say no to the sauerkraut-it's super yummy. As I was downtown walking around Eastern Market a few weeks ago; I saw a line with people walking away with these humongous sausages. I knew that I wanted to try it at that point, so I stepped right in line! As I walked up to order, I saw that I wanted to order some pierogis! I order the Spinach and Artichoke; Potato and Farmers Cheese, and Corned Beef and Swiss pierogis! The liked the Potato and Cheese the best, but all were good. I also ordered a sausage! Very good! I ordered it plain (I know, know. What's the point without the sauerkraut, lol)... I definitely will return whenever I'm back at the Eastern Market! Probably the most poppin' food stall at Eastern Market. Friends had recommended their pierogis so we decided to stop by on a Saturday afternoon. We got a Polish plate with a regular sausage and 4 different pierogis (corned beef, spinach and artichoke, jalapeño popper, and potato and cheese). The food was good - the sausage was hot and fresh and we really enjoyed the sauerkraut topping. The corned beef pierogi was definitely the best one, followed by the potato. The spinach and jalapeño ones tasted...accurate, for lack of a better word. I think I'd rather eat a regular jalapeño popper. Overall I thought it was a good but expensive for what it was. read more

Not good not bad just average, I was really looking forward to the corned beef and Swiss well the Swiss was missing. When I first ordered they gave me the wrong ones they gave me the cheese and potato, I walked back over and they corrected it with no problem. So the customer service is really good at fixing a problems. They let me keep the potato and cheese and those were just average. The corned beef was supposed to have Swiss but didn't, and the taste was nothing to be exciting about. Only good point was the side of kraut and that was not what I was there for. I do see great ratings by other yelpers I just hope today was a off day. I probably will not try again. read more

Hamtramck is a place that every Detroiter knows where you can receive authentic Polish food. Consequently, if you cook Polish food and want it to be authentic and made with love, then it should be made from scratch. No other food truck vendor is serving pierogi's, giving People's Pierogi a unique advantage. I wish they seized the moment though. They offer three flavors mushroom with a cayenne, potato and cheese, and artichoke and spinach. When we got to the front of the line, we could see that they were grilling each one to give it a nice golden brown color. We had the opportunity to talk with the staff and inquire about their ingredients. I was unhappy to hear that they don't make the pasta. The staff did say that all the fillings are hand-made, in which they spent the previous evening preparing it. So it's half and half, some components hand-made and the rest not so. One notable fact, all three options were vegetarian. This rarely happens. Usually it's multiple meat options with one vegetarian. Therefore, vegetarians enjoy! The potato and cheese was the least favorite. The flavors of all the ingredients were fairly bland. The mushroom cayenne pierogi was the second best one available. It just didn't have enough heat. With cayenne as part of the main ingredient, you would expect some heat, but it was barely present. Since I have to pick one as my favorite, well I guess the lucky title goes to the artichoke and spinach. It was the one that did have flavor and you could taste the artichoke as well as the spinach. All three were edible, but if I had to order one again, it would only be artichoke and spinach. The pierogis were served with sauerkraut, which they could have kept. I asked if it were homemade and it is not, which the taste reveals. It's nice to have some variety at food truck rallies, however I hope to see their flavors improve with complexity and execution. read more

Operating out of a mobile pierogi cart are the People's Pierogi Collective. A food cart specializing in, you guess it, pierogi. Last time i was there, they were offering a couple varieties of these handmade dumplings filled with your choice of: 1. Sauerkraut 2. Mushroom & Potato 3. Michigan Cherry Since i've had my share of the traditional pierogis (the ones stuffed with potato or sauerkraut) i decided to venture away from the savory and enter the sweet side of the pierogi world, opting for the fresh cherry filling! The verdict: great hand kneaded dough, warm cherry filling, and overall delicious! Now i know i'm gonna sound like an El Cheapo but the pierogis were kinda small and to get 3 of them for $5 was highway robbery! For that price, i'm gonna need the portion size (per dumpling) to be bigger or make it 5 small pierogis for $5 and we'll call it a day! read more

That silly Polish ditty reminds me of my goofy father dancing and singing like a goombeck, so imagine my joy when I was shopping at Eastern Market and saw a food stand with employees hawking pierogi wearing t-shirts that say, "I stole the kishka". Best. Thing. Ever. This lovely group is bringing pierogi to the people - in both a traditional and a VERY non-traditional way. You can find the pierogi you grew up with, or perhaps you'd like to try a breakfast pierogi? The pierogi were good. They felt a tad expensive, but after popping a squat on the curb and digging in - the price was no longer a concern. My chlopczyk even ate a few bites. Fairly good pierogis, the skin has a nice chew and not too doughy. They have a food cart in Eastern Market, serves 3 pierogis in one serving accompanied by sauerkraut and caramelized onions. I am just curious...is pierogi considered a high-end food in Detroit area? I've had pierogis in many cities in Canada and US; they usually don't cost $2 a piece unless there is non-traditional, unique, and costly-to-make fillings involved. The ones being sold in Eastern Market have included Sauerkraut, potato and cheese, breakfast (egg, bacon, cheese), blueberry, cherry, etc. varieties, nowadays these are becoming pretty common and available fillings. YUM YUM YUM! I am pretty traditional when it comes to Pierogi so I only got the potato and cheese with sauerkraut on the side. It is only $5 for three with no extra charge for the sauerkraut or sour cream! They are so tasty and filling. I wanted to buy some to take home, but my freezer is just too full right now! You say pierogi, I say perogy, we all need pierogi! The delicious scent of wafting dumpling wrappers, cayenne pepper, and cheese speaks of Ferndale food festival to me thanks to the PPC, the People's Pierogi Collective, and their retro Soviet stylings. Hardworking comrades deserve piping hot half-moons hot off a grill, seams stuffed within an inch of their life, bulging with flavour. In addition to the traditional potato and cheese, Hamtrammy's finest whip up pierogi worthy of hipster cred. Flavours like pizza (tomato sauce, mozzarella, pepperoni) and artichoke and spinach rule where Grandma never much got past bacon and sour cream. Heaps of flavourful kraut and sour cream do await to garnish your tasty repast, but they are also nonsensical additions when pierogi are best chomped down while steaming hot. The PPC makes sudden and unexpected appearances around town, from Eastern Market to the Royal Oak flea market and Ferndale's endless late summer soirees. My beau lights up whenever he catches the familiar scent on the air, and beelines straight for the usually substantial queue gathered in front of their food truck. Unlike other food vendors, PPC does not prepare large batches of pierogi in advance -- or if they do, stocks dwindle faster than Research in Motion after bad news on quarterly Blackberry sales. (Sigh) Staff prepares pierogi to order so expect to wait, tormented by the overstuffed, golden purses of delight floating by on little platters. Good things come to those who wait, and the pierogi are no different. Their everchanging menu means something new and mouthwatering can be expected to show up, but the old standbys (bacon and cheese with sour cream) hit the spot just as much. Some of the concoctions are more miss than hit for me; the pizza pierogi was surprisingly disappointing, but balancing the meat to cheese ratio is difficult in so small a space. I enjoy sampling the unfamiliar and taking a chance on a new ingredient or one mixed in unexpected ways. Note that spices and flavouring are quite mild, so unless they're hawking a curry chicken pierogi (now there's an idea) or tandoori, don't expect a strong, overpowering taste on the palate. My quibble with PPC is price. With Hamtramck's delis and restaurants just down the road, $6 for three pierogi classifies them as a definite sometimes treat. And really, they're a snack even when accompanied by sausage and sauerkraut (I'll pass on both). Splitting three pierogi with the beau is a testament to his love for me, since he would happily munch down about twenty in the time it takes to write this paragraph at 150 wpm. You're not getting value for the food buck with PPC, and I wish PPC offered a "meal platter" option at a bit of a discount. Check them out when they're around town, though, and try for yourself. I had three breakfast pierogies in Eastern Market this Saturday as part of my lunch and they were amazing. It was 3 for $5 and all they had left was the breakfast ones. They had sausage, egg and cheese in them and they are served with sour cream and sauerkraut. They were great! I'll definitely be back! read more

Great pierogis, no matter what the time of day (breakfast pierogis, etc.), but as others have noted in their reviews, joy doesn't come cheap. It would be 5 stars if the price/value ratio could get a little bit closer to "sensible", but they seem to be doing OK with their current pricing structure, so maybe they're just good business people, and I'm merely a starry-eyed idealist. read more

I love PPC, even though I'm Irish, I grew up im a Polish neighborhood, so I love me a good perogi. They have expanded their variety from when they started out, so there's a lot of different kinds to choose from. Like some of the other reviewers, I find 'em a bit pricey, but you can get around that by getting a dozen frozen ones to take home & cook yourself. read more

I attended a food cart rally in Troy today. The People's Pierogi was there. Every other cart had a line except for them. Why? 3 Pierogi for $6??? That is way too expensive. Had they been 3 for $5, I might have considered it. People that were standing around me waiting on their food were also commenting on the price and laughing at the woman who was pouting behind their cart. I kind of felt bad, so I thought I would buy a water (for $1). I walked up and asked her for one and she slammed it down (it fell over) and then took my $1 without a thank you or anything else. She did not even say a word to me and walked away after she took my money. The whole way this kind of stuff builds up is because they get a following.
