Some sort of potato pierogi who knows
    Sunil A.

This review is for their food truck and not the restaurant. Went to urbanrest cause my cousin and her husband live around the corner and I love urbanrest beer. I've always enjoyed the pierogies at the Market but I have never tried the truck but imagined the experience would be just as good. Unfortunately it was not. Now typically when you order from a good truck you expect a wait, especially on a crowded night like it was this night. It took an hour to get 3 orders of pierogis. Now their pierogis are typically thicker than most, which usually isn't a problem cause one order can be very filling. But in this case it came out so doughy and chewy it left a lot to be desired. And then to top it off, they gave us the wrong pierogies. It was someone else's order. When I brought up to the man delivering the orders he said since we already cut into them he couldn't replace them. How are we supposed to know they aren't the right ones without cutting into them? So we paid $40 for terribly made pierogis that weren't even the right order. What an experience. I'm giving them 3* because the restaurant was never a bad experience so I'm averaging the 4 and 1 to give them a 3. So terribly disappointed.

First of all, support women owned businesses. Second, these our fresh and different fillings you'd never think of in a pierogi. They are cooked to order and perfect! Very friendly. If you want to mix and match, order the chefs special, which is not on the menu! Also, this is across from eastern market in "Gratiot Central Market." Thirdly, get your asses down here and try them!

I should've looked at the inside pictures more. My bad. :( The woman that runs a shop is sweet and friendly and helpful. She does events for the local kids and veterans. She also has classes for date nights and other events, for anyone that wants to learn how to make pierogi. The pierogi are all frozen, order and pay at the front counter. All orders are bagged. A small sheet of paper to give instructions on how to cook the pierogies in a pan with some butter. Suggested to eat with some sautéed onions and or sour cream for some. I got the chicken pot pie, the mushroom and mozzarella, cheddar, the potato and garlic, sauerkraut and mushroom, sauerkraut and onion. $87.04 The chicken pot pie comes with gravy and some crumbs to put on top. They have 25 different flavors, however, they were out of many and sold out , especof all the extra fellas. We cooked up the pierogi, sautéed some onions, kielbasa, kraut. We ate the potato and mushroom and mozzarella pierogi with the onions, cream cheese or sour cream. Pierogi took about 6-8 minutes on medium heat on the stovetop to brown some. The mushroom wasn't my favorite, as the mushrooms would gush out some water from it, was a rather unexpected experience, not for me. The mushroom and cheese were decent. The kraut and onion and the chicken pot pie fell apart somewhat during the cooking and flipping for us. The potatoes were as expected, not too bad.

Absolutely wonderful food. Pierogis are very tasty and good-sized…read more Recipes are from the owner's Ukrainian grand mother with Polish roots.

Homemade pierogies, Glumpki (soelling?), including the sauce. Awesome sauerkraut and two types of sausage, although I do prefer the smoked, both go great when dipped into a horseradish mustard sauce that they give to us upon request. I'm not a big potato pancake person, but it was homemade and prepared correctly. I also grabbed a side salad and it's not cheap iceberg salad, rather a nice variety of greens. They even catered to me when I asked for extra dressing because I like to drown my salad! I got a couple of Polish beers and they have a nice bourbon selection. My wife wasn't feeling Polish food, so she got the pork chops, which smelled great and she said were delicious. Two large cuts, right off the grill, and a bunch of sides. No complaints! The waitress was very accommodating and service was perfect. It was pretty busy in there, but she handled all of the tables and we never felt like we had to wait for anything. Cool atmosphere on the inside and plenty of parking, just a nice place to hang out and have dinner, stress free. They also have several TVs so if there's a game on, you'll be able to watch it. Also a long bar with locals if you want to hang out and have some company.

Now The Bad...The polish plate was not good at all. The best part was the boiled potatoes. The golabki (stuffed cabbage) had no flavor and cheap spaghetti sauce was used instead of traditional tomato sauce. The fresh and smoked sausage, sauerkraut, and pierogi had no seasoning and was extremely bland. The wife ordered the polish sliders, and she couldn't even finish one. The best part of her dinner was the french fries. Even the tap beer we ordered tasted skunked. If you're looking for good polish food I suggest you make the trip to Hamtramck.

When you walk in, you are welcomed by the staff and traditional Polish decor. We were shown to a table and asked if we preferred a booth, which I did, so they cleaned off the one that recently became available. This space has a family style feel to it. Everything on the menu looked so good, it was hard to choose, so I ended up getting the Polish Trio as an appetizer. They have it as an entree but it's the same food with a choice of salad. The trio included potato pancakes, 2 different pierogies (potato and sweet cheese) and Polish sausage. They have two types of sausage and allow you to choose which one you prefer. Everything tasted excellent! It brought back memories of being in Poland - a great experience. Our server was very nice and walked my mom through their gluten free options as well. I appreciated the amount of time she took with her. There are only two Polish restaurants remaining in Hamtramck so if you like the food, come out and support them. We will be back!
