I visited the restaurant on Friday evening, when I called to inquire about availability, the host stated it was reservations only, since they were busy. Upon arriving the first thing that I noticed was the confusing entry. (The prior restaurant had the main entrance on the corner of Castro and California, an organic entrance to the restaurant). Many people that were coming in looked confused coming in. The new entrance is just to the left, they should keep this door closed since it's not the main entrance. It appears that it stays open to wait on tables that they have set outside. Some of the tables that have been set outside are quite ridiculous, for example, they offered us a table that was next to the bus stop in the middle of the street. Yes, some of Castro remains closed for traffic due to the pandemic and the restaurants are maximizing space, but this was a very unnecessary location for a table. The restaurant's Peruvian dishes were flavorful and well-prepared. I particularly enjoyed the chicken plate. While the food remained good, I couldn't help but notice that the menu had undergone some changes since my last visit. We were consistent patrons at the Walnut Creek and SF locations. Some of my favorite dishes were no longer available, which was a bit disappointing. However, the new additions were equally enticing, so I had the chance to try something different. The ambiance of the restaurant was lively, with vibrant colors and Peruvian-inspired. The Latin music playing in the background added to the overall energetic atmosphere. Sadly, the service didn't match the excellence of the food and ambiance. The staff seemed overwhelmed and confused, leading to delays in taking orders and serving the dishes. Since the location is new, I can only imagine this will improve over time. This aspect of the experience left a dent in an otherwise enjoyable meal. In conclusion, the Peruvian food at this restaurant was delectable, and the ambiance was full of energy, creating a delightful dining experience. I'm always on the hunt for unique dining experiences, and my recent visit to Limón left me both satisfied and intrigued. A party of four, we had a reservation for 7pm and after a brief 10-minute wait, we were seated in a unique spot outside- an old bus stop turned outdoor seating area. Kudos to Limón for turning an unconventional space into a charming dining spot. While the outdoor seating was fun, the indoor decor is amazing - a stylish space with of greenery and ambient lighting that begged for a revisit, so I'm definitely keeping that in mind for my next trip. Drinks were our first order of business, and Limón has mastered their sours. The Passionfruit Sour gets a special mention, as its refreshing tanginess was the perfect start to our culinary journey. Heeding our server's recommendation, we decided to share a couple plates. The fried plantains were a delightful kickoff - crispy, sweet, and fried to perfection. The 1/2 chicken was a hit, juicy with a great side sauce that added extra kick. However, the side dishes accompanying the chicken were a bit of a mixed bag. While the Yucca fries were tasty, only getting 4 fries was a slight disappointment, given the extra charge. Their flagship ceviche is a must-have, with fresh ingredients and great seasoning. The unexpected star of the show was the Chanchito a la Diabla - the pork belly was impeccable. The food was great, but I've opted for a 4/5 due to the service. It's evident that Limón has a few growing pains to overcome. Servers offered us other patrons' dishes repeatedly. While the occasional mix-up is understandable, it happening 4 times in a row is a bit concerning. It seemed like servers had been encouraged to upsell a lot, which detracted from the overall experience. Additionally, though our food arrived promptly, we waited a good 20 minutes for the check. Sitting at an empty table, eager to wrap up, felt a bit awkward. I am reaching out regarding check number 197 to share my concerns about the service my other half and I received during our visit to Limon this evening. We came in to enjoy food and cocktails; however, our experience was disappointing due to a lack of attentiveness from the bartender. After taking our initial order, he never returned to check if we wanted additional drinks or food. My partner, who does not drink alcohol, had tea, but no effort was made to offer a refill or inquire about further orders. Instead, the bartender seemed more focused on cleaning up in preparation for closing. Unfortunately, this is not the first time we have experienced this type of service from the same individual. We frequently visit on Friday nights and often find ourselves in this situation. Idk maybe it's bc my other half doesn't drink!? Hmm... Rather than proactively attending to guests, it feels as though we must make an effort to get his attention, which is not the level of service expected in a customer-facing role--especially for a bartender who relies on tips. Due to this repeated experience, we ultimately decided to leave without placing additional orders and will likely avoid visiting on Friday nights moving forward. For the first time, I chose not to leave a tip--not because I do not believe in tipping, but as a way to emphasize the severity of the issue. It is disappointing because we know Limon has excellent bartenders, such as Jeffrey, who provides outstanding service. However, his daytime schedule conflicts with my availability. Our server, Savannah, recommended building the perfect bite: a taro chip topped with scallop, sauced seafood, sweet potato, and crispy calamari. The flavors were heavenly, and mixing the elements made it a fun, dynamic dish. Short Ribs The short ribs were melt-in-your-mouth tender, with rich, bold flavors that paired beautifully with the rice and beans. It's the kind of dish that feels like a warm, satisfying hug. Pulpo (Octopus) The pulpo and potatoes were seasoned flawlessly, with bold, vibrant flavors and just the right amount of spice. I dined at Limon with coworkers on a Wednesday evening and would highly recommend making a reservation as the restaurant seemed quite busy. Our server unfortunately neglected to inform us that we were being served still water. This led to some confusion as they repeatedly poured water from an unlabeled bottle. We were later surprised to see a $14 charge for two still waters on the bill. Had we known the cost, we would have opted for regular tap water. This definitely highlights a need for better communication from the service staff. Despite this, the food was generally enjoyable. The Truffle Mushroom Empanadas were a standout - the truffle flavor was subtle yet distinct, and they were surprisingly delicious even for someone who isn't a huge mushroom fan. The Truffle Mac and Cheese was also a winner, rich and cheesy as expected. The Anticuchos de Pollo (chicken skewers) could have used a bit more flavor on their own, but the accompanying hot sauce was excellent and provided a satisfying kick of spice. I got a response from someone who claimed he/she was the store manager who talked to me and blamed me for altering facts. In his/her own words, "... Though, in your email you stated you were the sole individual from your large group that fell ill from shared plates, so I'm very surprised to see the narrative change after several weeks. When we last spoke, I had ...". I had never spoken with anyone who's in charge of this case. All the communication was thru emails. In the emails I said 4 adults got sick. Please note that Emails can be printed out and posted here. So don't try posting distorted facts again. Another fact, I did try calling the representative proactively in charge of this matter but no one ever answered, emails validating this statement are available, too. read more

It's a unique blend of tart, sweet, and creamy that's hard to resist. I also tried the anticuchos de pollo, and the seasoning was spot on - it delivered the Peruvian flavors I was curious to explore. Beautiful spot with some hits and misses. Just moved to the Bay Area from NY and have been on a mission to find my go-to Peruvian spot. This place caught my eye, the ambiance is beautiful, but the food was kind of a mixed bag. The pollo a la brasa and green sauce were... fine, but missing that big, bold flavor I crave. The lomo saltado had a solid sauce going for it, but the beef was a little on the tough side. Now, the ceviche trio? Chef's kiss. Fresh, tangy, and totally the star of the show. And don't even get me started on the tres leches -- soft, sweet perfection. Service was okay, not bad, just could've been a bit more on top of things (especially since it wasn't too busy). I've been here three times and I always have the best experience!!!! My friend and I always sit at the bar and we love all the food here. 1. Drinks are amazing, Lychemelon is personal my favorite drink. It's sooooo good. The times I've been here I sit at the bar and Carla is the bartender. She is soooo funny. She has that Latina vibe always making jokes with me and my friend. Also been having Jonathan and Luis as a bartenders and those guys are really nice too! 2. Food always tasty!!! The Lomo Saltado is my favorite dish in the menu. The only thing I don't like about this place is the music. I gotta be honest, if is a Latin place why not having Latin music? Limon is one of my top three Peruvian spots in SF and an absolute staple when it comes to Peruvian food! I first fell in love with Lomo Saltado when I traveled to Peru, and ever since, I've been on the lookout for a version that tastes just as good. Limon nails it! The tender beef, sautéed onions, tomatoes, and crispy fries are packed with flavor and taste just as authentic as what I had in Peru. It's my go-to dish here! Beyond that, their chicha morada is always refreshing, the ceviche is bright and fresh, and the empanadas are consistently delicious. The only thing? I don't love the location after dark, so if a Lomo Saltado craving hits past 7pm, I just order through Uber Eats instead. If you love Peruvian food, Limon is a must-visit in SF.
