I would avoid the ceviche. I am in my fourth day of survival after having it. I could expect that kind quality/infection from street vendors. I was having the house ceviche that looked absolutely amazing but there was something weird in taste. I thought that I am not used to Peruvian style ceviche and that's why it tasted weird. When I came back home I started vomiting and feeling dizzy. Four days later and I am still recovering. Otherwise service was great, interior is great as well. P.S. I actually tried to contact restaurant to ask if other people had some similar symptoms to help them to prevent the situation. So far I am ghosted. read more

TLDR: Ceviche clasico, chanchito a la diabla and pescado entero were our favorites. This was our first time having Peruvian food. And it was a great experience! If I were to poorly generalize the cuisine based on one experience, I would say the country loves their seafood (which makes sense since they are right next to the ocean). And they love sour (which again makes sense since the name of the restaurant is Lemon!). They also like spicy... many of their dishes are spicy, but luckily it's not OVERWHELMING spicy. Just a small kick, just to remind you there's some spice. Our 10th Anniversary plans had fallen through badly. We first were thinking to go back to our first anniversary place, then to try a Japanese omakase, then cancelling plans to go to HMB, to thinking about another Sushi place on Castro, only to find out we been there before. So we just decided to take a walk toward one of the ends of Castro and see what's there. I noticed that this new restaurant opened up, where used to be an Indian place. Limon! We arrived around 5:30p, and we were seated right away. I'm glad this place doesn't really need reservations (although it did fill up by the time we finished up)! Our server, Socrates? Plato? Aristotle?, sorry, all I remember was he was named after a Greek philosopher, was super friendly. Took the time to explain the "signature dishes", giving us recs. He reassured us of the spice levels, and even spaced out our meal so our small 2-person table would not be overwhelmed by plates. Unfortunately, we couldn't order ALL his recs, but we did order the ceviche. He said Peruvian ceviche is even BETTER than his home country of Mexico. And it was! I'm not an expert on ceviche, so all I can say about Limon's was the fish was very fresh, the meat was supple and juicy. It was drowned in a sour broth. I for one, am not a fan of sour, but even I appreciated the combination of sour with the raw fish. There were even these roasted corn, which reminded me of cornnuts, but less hard and more roasted flavor. It was a highlight dish for sure! Since it was a special occasion, my wife likes to order a cocktail. I chose the Bomba del Amor, which was a vodka with some fruity flavors. The vodka was a bit too subtle... which hints that there might not be much of it. But the overall flavor was sweet, and my wife enjoyed it. The ceviche was accompanied by the chanchito, which is roast pork, similar to the Chinese Roast pork. There was a crunchy skin, and a very melt-in-your-mouth pork fat and meat. There were 6 pieces, lying on this beautiful sauce. The sauce had a kick to it, but nothing I couldn't handle (believe me, I'm a complete wuss at spice!). The pork itself was really great, but the sauce just pushed it over the edge. Another 5 star dish for us. We also ordered the fried fish, which was another rec. The fish was prepared differently than the Chinese way (which is normally just to dip the entire fish into batter and deep fry). Here, they carve up the fish meat into chunks, and deep fried the fish skeleton separately from the meat, and then all put back together again. The presentation was certainly eye-catching. The fish was beautifully fried... delicate, not heavy-handed with tons of batter.. so you could still taste the flesh of the fish. And being able to eat the bones is just awesome! Revenge of the fish bone! Because we don't eat beef, we lastly chose the chicken, which wasn't one of his recs. But the rotisserie-style chicken was still really good. The skin was crispy and even the white meat wasn't too dry. Of course, it's a little dry, but in general, I had no problems eating it. Half a chicken is actually quite a lot. We had 2 parts of the chicken for leftovers, and the mostly-intact fish skeleton. Because we had to save room for dessert, natch. Again, we relied on our favorite Latino Greek Philosopher to give us his rec, and he chose the chocolate lava cake, which immediately fired up my wife. She loves ANY dessert with chocolate. There were 2 downsides to the dessert. One, the cake was a bit small. It couldn't be more than 2 inches in diameter. And the ice cream was completely frozen solid. But the chocolate oozed, the cake moistened, and we still devoured the whole thing. Unfortunately I think the frozen core of the ice cream still remains to this day... Maybe it was because it was our anniversary. Maybe it was because we had no previous experience with Peruvian food. All I can say is... we REALLY loved the food, and the service. The dining room at this location is more modern than the one in San Francisco. The food is excellent. The trio of ceviche was divine. What I enjoyed the most, though, was our waiter Elizabeth. She is one of the best servers I have ever had, and I eat out a lot! Elizabeth was very knowledgeable and informative about the menu, helping us make our decisions and guiding us to excellent choices. When our food arrived, she continued being very attentive but was never overbearing like so many servers in other places tend to be. She let us actually enjoy the food and each other's company, while remaining vigilant of our needs. We were definitely impressed and we cannot wait to return. 3.5 stars is a fair rating, but I'm rounding up. I LOVE the vibe here. Having visited their Burlingame location, which is more industrial, I was blown away by how stunning this place was. Tropical-trendy decor, neon signs, greenery hanging from the ceiling, and upbeat music playing in the background...perfect for date night. We experienced a very contrasting experience in service between the hostess and our server. When we arrived, there wasn't anyone working the host desk. A guy walked up, but he seemed to only clock in or check on something, because he walked away without acknowledging us. Finally, a woman arrived to check us in, but her demeanor was cold and standoffish. She clearly didn't want to be there and didn't try to hide it. Not a great first impression. Our server was the complete opposite. Super friendly, high energy, and always smiling. She definitely saved the experience for us. As far as food and drinks go, it was a bit of a mixed bag. Both of my drinks, the lychee pisco sour and the Chaman, were very light on alcohol. I walked out sober. The Chaman was further disappointing, because none of the ingredients came through. No mezcal smokiness, no sweetness or spiciness from the mango chipotle puree; it actually tasted like passion fruit to me. Maybe I got the wrong cocktail, but was not at all what I was looking for. On the other hand, my husband's Don Carlitos Old Fashioned was smoky, boozy, and very intricate. For dinner, we got the empanadas sampler, half chicken, and the Tacu Lomo: -Empanadas sampler: the beef empanadas we had in Burlingame were phenomenal, but tasted different and more bland here. The chicken was also disappointing. Oddly enough the Veggie (truffle-infused mushroom and cheese) was our favorite. -Half chicken: the chicken was well prepared and full of flavor. The white meat was tender. The sauce, again, tasted different here than in Burlingame. They also brought out the wrong side dish and our waitress was going to take the whole plate away. I just asked her to bring the side dish on the plate so I can continue to enjoy my chicken. -Tacu Lomo: another flavor packed dish. I really liked the Tacu (although it tasted more like beans than rice), but my hubby didn't care for it. After we were finished we had to wait on our check for quite a while. We struck up a conversation with a couple next to us and didn't mind that they let us hang out, but if you're in a rush, I could see how this might be frustrating. I hope that the difference in flavor between the locations was a one-off and that the next time we visit it will be as good as Burlingame. Finally had the chance to try this restaurant out, and even better with my gals for a late Galentine's Day dinner get together. Upon arrival, the restaurant had a nice ambiance, very cozy and comforting. It gave such a chill vibe at night. Our server, John, was a such an amazing guy. Just before being seated, I asked if they had a quieter space for one guest who wears hearing aids and has difficulty in noisy environments. The staff, with their willingness to accommodate, made us feel respected and valued. They seated us in a side room that helped reduce the noise. Valentines day dinner at Limón! We made a reservation 3 weeks in advance. Parking was pretty easy. We had to walk two blocks as parking right out front is sparse. The ambiance of the main room was so cozy and chic. We were taken to a separate room for our table for 2. I'm guessing you can rent out the room for events. The private room was lovely but not as nice as the main room. There was a TV that had a glare whenever we tried to take photos. Platano Frito 5/5: Absolutely delicious. It is amazing how beautifully caramelized the plantains were. Ceviche Limón 4/5: This was good! It was a little too sour when it came to the scallop. It was not as balanced as I wished but everything else was yum. I loved the texture contrast of the crispy calamari. Crispy Pork Belly Chaufa 4/5: The rice was so aromatic I was very impressed with the smoky flavor. This was A LOT of rice and I had to take half of it home. Many eons ago, my friend took me to Limon in San Francisco. My first Peruvian experience and I fell in love but rarely go to SF. Fast forward and looking for places to dine for holiday lunches and find a Limon in Mountain View! Was super stoked and ended up going twice in less than 48 hours! Went on a Wednesday after the lunch rush and transported to a beautiful restaurant with so lush decor. Had a table with great views of downtown Mountain View and our server, Anita, was amazing start to finish! Had the passionfruit sour and it was beautiful and absolutely tasty. My friend and I decided on the empanada sampler and lomo saltado to share. We received two veggie empanadas as they may have been out of the cheese that day. Which worked out because that was our favorite. The beef was pretty good but the chicken was quite dry. The dipping sauce with it was the perfect compliment to it. The lomo saltado was great, meat was tender, plenty of sauce and rice and fries to pair it with. For dessert we had the chocolate pandido and the cake was perfectly moist and yummy with the ice cream. Friday, we came just as they opened at 11:30 AM. It was unbelievably packed! The hostess and manager at the front were rude, but thankfully we got the table we reserved and Anita as our waitress again. Passionfruit sours for all, divine! We ordered the empanada sampler again and ordered the truffle mac and cheese, la poderosa salad, jalea, and tacu tacu marisquero. I had a bit of high expectations with all the rave reviews with the mac and cheese, but it was just okay to me. Lacked the truffle flavor and thought they used a different pasta than the small macaroni. The salad was huge, could easily feed 3 people, but for dressing on the side they sure give you a small portion. Loads of kale and loved the golden raisins and almonds to it. The jalea was superb, tons of seafood in a flaky light batter. Tried the tacu tacu and liked that I couldn't taste too much of the beans in the mix. I'll speak for myself; I flew from LA to spend time with my boyfriend. This place is great if you're looking for Peruvian tapas! It has a classy and modern ambiance that's great for a date night or group get-together. They also have private rooms too if you want a more personal experience. We ordered the Trio Ganador, Fiesta Platter, lengua, camarones crocantes, and the seafood platter. The Trio Ganador included their red snapper ceviche served in 3 diff types of leche de Tigre sauce: Aji Amarillo, ricoto, and clasico. My favorite one was their ceviche in clasico sauce. However, their ricoto ceviche ended up being too citrus forward for my taste. The fiesta platter included: crispy marinated chicken thighs, beef empanadas, fried sweet plantains, and yuca fries. I didn't care too much for the chicken but everything else was delicious! The lengua which is beef tongue was delicious! It was probably my favorite dish there. It was so flavorful and tender, not overcooked at all. The seafood platter included various types of ceviche, jumbo shrimp, mussels, scallops topped with chalaquita onions, leche de tigre shooters, and oysters. I really enjoyed the scallops, it was such a well balanced and flavorful bite. The oysters on the other hand I did not like at all, it was much too briney. By far our favorite restaurant in the ENTIRE BAY AREA. This was the second Limon we have been to and the food was just as amazing as the Walnut Creek location. We ordered the Seco De Costillas, Arroz Con Pollo, Lomo Saltado and Coliflor Picante. The flavor of the food at Limon is unreal. Peruvian food is already some of the best food on Earth and Limon proves it. I am convinced they don't have a single menu item that isn't phenomenal. If you have one restaurant you can go to, it absolutely has to be here. The flavor of the food is amazing. Some restaurants have a few good items, but we have explored their menu and literally everything is extremely flavorful and cooked to perfection. There isn't enough praise for Limon. The restaurant is very welcoming, and warm, great ambience. Our server Miguel was very friendly, prompt, and provided great recommendations. The food was absolutely amazing! We shared their Classico ceviche, which was absolutely incredible! We also shared a crispy shrimp dish and the empanada sampler. The flavors were incredible! The food came out quickly and hot. Limon is my favorite Peruvian restaurant in the Bay Area. The food, drinks and service has always spot on. I use to go to the SF location but since the crimes has been so bad lately I actually have not been back for over 3 years. Now that there is a location somewhat closer to home, we'll be going here more often. We always order the same things - lomo saltado, mixed ceviche, beef tongue, octopus, rotisserie chicken and the pisco sours. So this time around, we've decided to branch out and tried a few new dishes. Here is what ordered: + Melon Lychee: So refreshing! I didn't taste much of the melon but more ginger beer. Regardless, I enjoyed this drink very much. +Beef Tongue: A must. I love this dish! It's so tender and the sauce that is paired with the lengua is the perfect balance. +Lomo Saltado: Another must. There is something irresistible about that sauce. I love soaking my fries in that sauce. Portions are generous too! + Limon Ceviche: We usually get the mixed ceviche but wanted to try something different and for $4 more, it's worth it. You get a small fried calamari and scallops. The sauce was SO sour this time. It totally punched my taste buds. + Cauliflower: My husband has been obsessed with cauliflower lately and the crispy fried cauliflower were tasty. We appreciated that it was not heavily battered. + 18 Hour Braised Short Ribs: Fork tender short ribs but the dish did not wow'd us. It was heavy and the flavoring was very underwhelming. By the time we finished dinner we were too full to order any desserts. We barely made a dent into the short ribs or lomo saltado dishes. We finished dinner around 630PM and this place was jam packed! I'd been wanting to try Limón since the Mountain View location opened, and we finally made it happen on Friday night. We didn't have a reservation but were able to get seated outside right away. The inside had a 1 hour wait, but the ambiance/decor did look really nice. For drinks, I got a glass of Sangria and my friend chose the Ponche cocktail - both very good. Online, it said they had a whole menu section of Spritzers, but that may have been seasonal because they weren't on the physical menu. For food, the three of us decided to order everything family-style, as our server had recommended. We started with just the Empanada Sampler and Ceviche Trio Ganador, but quickly realized that wouldn't be enough food and added the Camarones Crocantes and side of Yuca Fries. The Empanada Sampler came with four different empanadas, which were all tasty but nothing mind-blowing. There was one dipping sauce for all of them, which kind of left us wanting more. The Ceviche Trio Ganador was served beautifully (really nice presentation) and the pacific red snapper was fantastic. However, I wish it had been more of a sampler, since all three variations had the same fish/vegetables, and the marinades weren't radically different from each other. The Camarones Crocantes were probably my favorite item of the meal - large juicy shrimp with a delicious sauce. The Yuca fries, however, were nothing special. The sauce they came with was strangely on the bottom of the plate and there wasn't enough of it at all - would've been better if there was something to dip them in. After all this, we couldn't resist ordering dessert and chose the Panna Cotta and Chocolate Bandido. I was expecting to like the Panna Cotta more, but the Chocolate Bandido was easily the winner. It was like a delicious chocolate lava cake with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, while the texture of the Panna Cotta was a little off. Paid by card. I went here with a group of 7 on a weekday night and we made reservations ahead of time. We had to wait about 30 minutes after our reservation time since this place was packed. The restaurant was nice enough to give us a pitcher of sangria for our long wait time. Nice staff and nice ambience. They fit a lot of people in this medium-sized space though so it's loud. It's good for dates and groups. We ordered tons of food and drinks here. All drinks and desserts were good. I was a little disappointed with the arroz con mariscos and the flavor of the rice. I liked the oysters. I forgot what other people in my party got but I liked theirs better. Lol. Overall I would recommend this place if you're in the area.
