Tea & Limewood Bar & Restaurant: I hosted a very nice tea party for my niece's bridal shower at the Claremont Hotel. There were 6 of us. Tea and Food were amazing. Ates, our server, was kind, generous, helpful with recommendations and prompt to accommodate all of our many requests while remaining behind the scenes in a discreet way. I have been coming here for many years starting from when it was Paragon and the service has been declining over the years but I have to say this last time was the worse. For the Social Hour that started at 4pm, and I got there a little passed 4pm, they were out of the food on the social hour menu with no substitute and the service was less than helpful. The only reason why I gave it 1 star is because of the patio and it was a nice day otherwise I would have left and found something with better food and surely better service. read more

Some of the best craft cocktails I've experienced. Our bartender, Jeremiah, was an extremely knowledgeable mixologist. We watched him, over a period of a few hours, make custom requested cocktails. We had him make an amazing cucumber, basil, jalapeño martini! We requested a dirty martini with blue cheese olives which they did not have. However seeing our disappointment, Jeremiah went to the kitchen and stuffed the olives himself! By the way they have an awesome happy hour and their fried oysters will melt in your mouth. I will definitely come back any time I am in town. Fun place to watch a game too! read more

This is the restaurant inside the Clairmont Berkeley. We came here for dinner on a Friday night and had a wonderful experience. This place has definitely changed since it was called the paragon. The grass fed burger was good and a nice alternative to healthy ground beef. The lobster roll sandwich definitely not recommended they give maybe less than 3oz for 28.00 over priced and the sandwich is dry Dry dry. They should served this as sliders it would be more presentable and believing financially. The drinks were decent which I would come back for that abs definitely the view. read more

The bar in the Restaurant gets 1 star because it is a beautiful location. Otherwise, it deserves a 0 for service. It is amazing how this place is able to stay open with such lack luster service. Over Priced for the Quality and Quantity of Food Served My wife and I have been staying at the Claremont Hotel for over 15 years and have frequently taken our family to dinner there. We ate dinner at the Limewood Bar and Restaurant restaurant last night and were greatly disappointed. The food was expensive, portion sizes were small and the quality subpar. For example, the $45 dollar steak was tough and grizzly and the wild salmon for $33 was a 2" square piece of fish with no sides. Service was slow but friendly. The changes in the hotel's restaurant since the acquisition of the hotel by Fairmont have been very disappointing. There are better places to eat in the neighborhood of the hotel. Try one of those. read more

On a clear day or a clear night this place has an extraordinary view. If you have friends from out of town visiting, or you just want to enjoy some bites and cocktails while admiring the city's twinkling lights, I highly recommend this place! The food is not bad. The service is always attentive and polite. I would give five stars, but I've knocked the entire review down to 4 simply because the food isn't amazing (tends to be oily). I had bookmarked Limewood for a while and live really close to this restaurant so when my boyfriends birthday was approaching I thought this would be a great time to try it out. I made reservations for 8:15pm on a Tuesday night and we arrived a little early but were seated immediately outside in the patio (beautiful view and saw the sunset). Our waitress was so accommodating the entire night and made us feel welcome. The mussels appetizer we got was amazing!! My boyfriend and I are still talking about that dish and how flavorful it was. It was beginning to get chilly on the patio so we asked to be seated indoors and the staff was so accommodating! we both ordered the steak, my boyfriends came out medium as he ordered it but mine came out a little more on the well done side (i ordered medium well). But I didn't make a fuss since it was still delicious! Overall, amazing experience... we will be back! read more

This was so beautiful to walk into but what a total disappointment with the food and service. Started off with the baked oysters that were dry and tasteless and then the everything else was so salty that it wasn't edible. When we told the waiter about the issue, he just shrugged and didn't do anything with the $150 bill. Needless to say never again!!! read more

The server, John, is super condescending and ruined our experience two times now. He shamed me and my daughter for ordering mac and cheese and ice cream at the same time and not in a jovial way. We are here for a fun experience. What is it to you whether my kid eats dessert first? He also uses pet names to grown women which are unsolicited and unappreciated. It's as if he gets some power trip lording over the restaurant. I'm sure I'm not the only one who feels the same way about this guy. Food is fine albeit overpriced, the view is lovely, but because of this particular server, I would be hesitant to return or recommend Limewood to family and friends. read more

We are a guest in the hotel, and this restaurant will not prepare a meal for us to take back up to our room. Why is this restaurant allowed to be here? If it will not meet the requests of guests staying in the hotel, it needs to relocate somewhere else. The Claremont needs to bring in a restaurant that will take care of its guests. read more

When I called to make reservations for my cousin's 90th birthday brunch I was under the assumption this was still "The Meritage"! When I explained the occasion and asked for a window seat i was not corrected and when we got there that day I cannot explain the disappointment my cousin and our family felt.... The service was O.K. (we were charged for her dessert even though we didn't even ask for it) and there was no apology or explanation just that many people had done the same thing before us! This used to be a "world-class" hotel with an outstanding restaurant and now it is just "so-so" -- even our waiter (over-worked and spread thin) said that the brunch menu could be improved quite a bit. We had a lovely New Year's Eve brunch with our daughter and son-in-law. The service was wonderful including a cheerful and gracious server named Mario. The setting is perfect with a view of the city and the food was very good. My husband had the special pasta with mushrooms and chicken. I had chicken and waffles and we traded half way through. Tried this place out yesterday around 5. We were told that dinner service did not start until 5:30 and they just had interim apps and drinks right now. Friends and I were too lazy to go anywhere else so we just stayed. The place is really beautiful. There were some people sitting outside but when we asked if we could sit outside, the workers said we couldn't.... hm... ok then I guess. We sat on a different table inside and ordered charcuterie, cheese, oysters, and a bottle of white wine to share. The charcuterie and cheese were okay - nothing too special. I did not like the weird pita cracker? thing they gave with these plates. The meats were EH as well - the duck pastrami was chewy, the salmon fishy, and the duck liver mousse salty. The cheese was good but that doesn't say much about the restaurant because they source them from other places. The service here was ATROCIOUS! So hard flagging waiters down and ours forgot our order like 3 times. By the end, we were ready to gtfo of there but of course, we had to ask for our check 2 times. Then, they mischarged our wine... lol we corrected them and finally got to leave. Maybe if we were members, we would have been treated better??! read more

Love it here. This whole hotel has come a LONG way since they have refurbished it. I love sitting on couches (having the option to) instead of chairs and tables. It makes me feel at home. I went there last night to try out the place with a friend. We were seated at the bar section since we wanted only to have drinks with a little bite of food. The place is gorgeous. Every details have been thought through. And The view is absolutely stunning, from Oakland to San Francisco with the bay bridge. When you arrive the hostess welcomes you, checks for reservation and will show you in. Quickly, a waiter will come to you with menus and offer you regular or sparking water (with lime of course). The waiter will answer any question you have and leave you some time to decide what to order. Food arrives, delicious. Perfectly prepared, fresh and nicely presented. I was really surprised by the quality of the food. We had a side fries and squid to go with our wine. The squid were the most surprising. Tasty and perfectly cook. For the fries, you would expect nothing much. But here, the fries are home made, tasty and you would probably order more. The plates came in with Aioli sauce and ketchup for the fries. Even the Aioli was a nice surprise, well balanced, even with the vinegar that vanishes into the sauce. Stunning again. I wanted a glass of wine, and I did not know what to try. The waiter recommended the house red wine on tap, witch is a Sierra. It was an excellent choice and paired well with the espelette pepper of the squid plate. For the service part, nothing else to say than perfect. Well trained, very attentive and very good suggestions. I highly recommend this restaurant, it is really worth it. read more

Million dollar view with five dollar food. The restaurant was gorgeous, inside and out, but the food was disappointing. The oysters had mud on them and the drinks were sooo sweet! I have dined at Limewood many times, both for lunch and dinner. My recent lunch motivated me to write this review - not in a good way .... I have tried to love Limewood as I did the Paragon, a previous restaurant which fit so well with tastes and style of the community. Everybody can agree that Antoinette was a tone deaf disaster. Unfortunately, my lunch yesterday reminded me more of Antoinette than of the Paragon. The menu has changed to include a large number of strange, pickled bits and pieces with little that appealed to my mouth, and the prices feel like a bit of a slap in the face. I was particularly struck by the $23 hamburger. Here we go again.... prices creeping up to the ridiculous for lunch. I wish the suits who are running the hotel would check in with the locals about what we want. read more

Was hoping that it would be better but it is not to be. The reason I've given 2 stars is for the view; otherwise it would be 1 star. The appetizer section of the menu was not interesting to our group of 4 and so we tried several of the canapes. We thought the fried eggplant and shrimp were both good. But they were all severely overpriced. $25 for 4 dates with blue cheese and/or 4 persimmons wrapped in pancetta is absurd. The entrees were not much better. The steak was grisley and not like any rib-eye I've ever had. The pork was chewy and in short, nothing was spectacular. We tried the spice cake/poached pear for dessert. Nothing special. Number one reason to come here is the view, which is excellent. You get a great view of the Bay, and if you're lucky enough to get great weather, the experience is fantastic. The food is good;I had a chicken and bacon sandwich for lunch which was excellent. My partner had the burger, which was large and filling. The prices, however, are what you would expect, which is slightly overpriced. $18 for a burger or sandwich? Make sure you come on a good weather day. read more
