Happy to have found this restaurant not too far from my hotel! No wait I sat inside, but the AC was out. They opened the window and the evening breeze was lovely! The service was not as attentive as I would have liked it, but I must remember that I'm in Europe where they take things a little slower and let you enjoy your meal. So happy to have stumbled upon Limone after being jet lagged on arrival to Milan. Aside from some of the best meals I've had in Milan, they also provide the best service and atmosphere. They are welcoming of all cultures and speak many languages in case your Italian is rusty. We tried several dishes including pizza margarita, pizza tartufatto, spaghetti carbonara, and a Mediterranean seafood salad. Also an unforgettable creamy pear tartan. Pizzas are thin crust neapolitan style and wood fired. Crust made from durum wheat that is allowed to rise 4 days. Incredible. Pasta carbonara is rich and creamy with tons of pancetta. Maybe too much, but is that really possible?! Perfect al dente every time. The salads are fresh and seasonal and uncomplicated. Limone serves the freshest fish in Milan. The restaurant remains one of the last in the city to acquire it first directly from the central fish market of via Lombroso, the first point of arrival for the most important catches on the Italian Mediterranean. Being able to directly inspect, touch, evaluate and negotiate the purchase of fish directly from the market is an ability developed over decades by the chef and owner of the restaurant. Excellent wine selections from all major regions of Italy at reasonable price points. The house red is a 90+ nero d'avola from Sicily. Excellent. The incredibly friendly staff took great care of us, made us feel like family, and never let us leave without shots of limoncello to cleanse the pallet. Highly recommended. read more

We had delicious meal here but the service was not good. Perhaps because we are Americans, but we were ignored and brushed off. We enjoyed the food -- the stuffed calamari was superb, nut-crusted tuna very good and the focaccia was delicious. However the gnocchi was mushy with little taste. Oh my god ask for the free focaccia bread basket. They brought it out to us straight out of the oven! Also complimentary biscotti sweet breads at the end sealed the deal. I got the black risotto with salmon (raw) and it was delicious! Probably the best pasta I had in Italy. My friends seafood risotto came in a clam which was beautifully plated. I stumbled upon this restaurant without any prior research and I enjoyed my dinner. I wouldn't go as far as five stars because at this price point, and with this type of mahogany-infused ambiance, you always feel that more is warranted. But great experience nonetheless. The complimentary bread basket also includes "grissini" (loosely translated as breadsticks, originally from Turin) and "taralli" (this time, typical from Southern Italy), and while you're reading the menu and munching on your necessary dose of carbs, another complimentary dish of freshly baked focaccia magical appears at your table. Now, you don't want to skip that. My appetizer was out of the "daily specials", an interesting if not daring combination of grilled octopus, porcini mushroom over a bed of mashed potatoes. It looked great, it tasted delicious, but it was hardly a starter, while I was looking for something lighter. The orata (bream) with "crunchy zucchini" (misnomer for fried courgettes) was on point, already de-boned and nicely arranged on the dish. Five stars for service, the waiter was genuinely nice and came over to check if everything was alright without being overbearing. Even after the check I was offered some mandarins for the wait (producing the bill is always a time-consuming ordeal in Italy), and some Limoncello as a night cap. It's not the pleasure of being "extra", I honestly felt the guy was making sure my dinner was memorable and ended on the right note. At Limone you feel like a regular, even at your first try. They accept Amex and the food selection is quite interesting (fish and meat), although without many truly light options for my taste. But tasty it is. read more

I had the Milanese cutlet and the ham basil calzone. The portions are pretty big, good ambiance, food was served prompt. The prices are better than the area around duomo. The server made a mistake with my order though, I requested for the maile which is the pork but he thought I ordered veal. We didn't know until the check came. I told the waiter and he was generous enough to give us a 3 euro discount! As for the food, the cutlet was pretty good, I wish they served it with more arugula and tomatoes. If you're looking for something less touristy and high quality without breaking the wallet, definitely stop by Limone! We went at lunch time on a Sunday. Pretty empty and waiters were very attentive and helpful. Did not even need to ask for the Wi-Fi password. The bread basket was filled to the brim with 3 or 4 different types of bread and complementary hot from the oven pita bread. Best bread I've had in Italy so far, I'm really impressed by how much they gave and the quality of it as well. Can't stress enough how great & sociable the waiters were. English menu was provided & service charge was 3 euros. We ordered the Black risotto with salmon and the Seafood linguine with Pizza crust on top. Both dishes were sophisticated and unique compared to other Italian restaurants. Kudos to the chef who came up with the menu. Weight staff was extremely friendly and helpful, the atmosphere (we sat outside) was wonderful, and the price was comparable to the quality of the food. Great place for lunch apparently. We sat on the sidewalk thinking the crowds were pretty small, but walked inside for the restroom and it was packed! Ordered the bruschetta - salty. TOO salty. Nice pasta (guitar strings) as primi; an outstanding lamb chop as one of the mains... Best lamb chop I have ever had... However; wifey ordered beef prime rib, it was reallly poorly cooked. Middle was extremely raw! 2 desserts; one good chocolate tarte; and one odd creme brulee, which was really Nice and warm on top but icecold in the bottom. In Milan for two days and my first night I had the worst pizza and risotto in Duomo area. The concierge at the Westin Palace heard my disappointment and suggested Limone. I had the best experience from the food to wine suggestion to desert and service. I had the whole fish which the waiter de-boned for me at my table. Fairly empty on a Saturday evening, service was great, no problem speaking English with the host and the food was excellent. Manager (?) cut about 7Euro off the bill (~10%) which was a nice touch. We found this restaurant near our hotel & checked Yelp to confirm that the review was good. We had our first dinner in Milan and enjoyed every dish. The stir fry mussels with tomato & white wine was super fresh & cooked to perfection. My black risotto with raw salmon was delicious & the presentation was wonderful. My husband ordered the daily special pasta with whole fresh sea bass. They fillet the cooked fish at the table and it was beautifully done. The homemade pasta was good, unfortunately the sauce was a little too salty, otherwise it would have been great. We completed our meal with a Tiramisu to share. Like the waitress said, how can we leave without trying their Tiramisu? It was really good! Service & atmosphere were great. This place got crowded after 8pm. Just a side note that their bread wasn't free as other reviews might have indicated. They charged us €6 for bread & €3 for mineral water. These 5 star reviews are puzzling.The staff and restaurant are really nice. Disclaimer...I live on the East Coast (US) and grew right on the beach. I always find it puzzling that Milan is known for it's seafood...the sea is about 2 hours away. There is a big difference in fish from the sea and fish from the ocean. It's saltier and always has a tad of chlorine taste to it.I do not think I chose the best things on the menu.The rest of my table felt that it was fine but not exceptional. I ordered salmon tartare. It was a HUGE portion and it was too chunky. They also cut through the tougher parts of the salmon and it tasted fishy. For my next course I had branzino baked in salt....usually a favorite of mine. They had cooked it in a pan and I am not sure if they used salt. It was also fishy and filled with bones. I spend about 4 weeks a year in Milan mainly for business. I hate giving bad reviews but I thought my advice might come in handy. The pizza looked great and my co-worker had pasta and she liked that. Everyone thought the fish was just OK. read more
