People of LIC and surrounding areas - if you like korean street food, you must try this place! Everything was very fresh and tasty and very well packaged. For those who live close enough, I recommend pick up since the order gets ready faster and the food will taste better if you get to it sooner :) Note - there is no store front but there is a bell to ring and Mr.Lim will open the door with your food. Lim's caught my eye the most because it seemed like a restaurant that has more of a narrow focus on foods they are really good at, which is their kimbap and wings, rather than a Korean restaurant that has every possible type of Korean food on the menu. If that makes sense. I ordered through Grubhub for takeout. I never got an email or text from Grubhub saying it was ready, but I headed over to Lim's a little early, maybe 10 minutes. There is a little door with a doorbell that says "ring me to pickup food". Someone came out with my food right away and I took it back to my room. This is still Covid times so I am not certain if they have a dining room or not? Anyway the food was delicious and the chicken was super crispy and delicious. I was waiting for a friend and got hungry near the Queens Plaza area. After typing in food on yelp, Lims's kitchen popped up. I wanted something fast and convenient to eat. Looking at the menu, the bulgogi ans tuna kimbap caught my attention. After placing the takeout on Yelp, I drove over in ten minutes. There was nobody outside in the seating area. We ordered takeout from this place for the first time. The army soup was okay (it's hard to make this bad honestly) but my sister's donkatsu was not that great. It was super dry and stale. I don't know if it's because it was old or because it was so overcooked. It was hard to bite and break apart. What's more, usually donkatsu is served with a side of cabbage salad but this just came with sauce. And in comparison to the amount of meat given there really should have been more sauce given. I wanted to like this place more because it's so close to our apartment. Perhaps, we ordered the wrong things...it seems people have good experiences for kimbap dishes. But overall I was a bit disappointed unfortunately. Even the two banchan given - the shredded reddish "kimchi" was bland and honestly not that great (maybe it's cheaper than regular cabbage kimchi) and the odeng given was super dry and not that great. I was in the "area" (Queens) and wanted to properly try Korean food. Unfortunately the experience wasn't was great. I gave this place a 2 star review for the following reasons. 1. The outdoor dining area was dirty. The hostess came to clean the tables but the place was full of spiderweb and dried up dead flies. 2. No ventilation, no air flow. The windows are covered in plastic. So it felt like a sauna. 3. We had to ring a bell to get the hostess to come get our order and to pick up the food we had to go inside to get it. 4. The food was packed in individual tiny containers nothing labeled so we didn't know what was supposed to go on what. And the menu itself didn't have pictures of the food. I'm a visual person and that would have helped in choosing a better item. 5. No open beverages could be served, only bottled items. 6. I had forgotten that in NY in order to dine in you have to show proof of vaccination. I must say the hostess and waitress were friendly and nice. I wasn't going to leave a tip because I basically waited on myself but I left one anyways. The food was tasty and had flavor but the outdoor dining area was off puttting. I don't usually write reviews but they wrote a cute little note and attached it on a seaweed snack saying "thanks for ordering" and "please give us a review," so here I am now! Couldn't find a spot that sold kimbab in the area until I stumbled on to this restaurant on DOORDASH. The kimbab was decent size and well worth the price. I ordered a spicy pork kimbab but they accidentally gave me bulgogi kimbab which I'm not even mad about it because it was just as good (I was just craving a little something spicy). Their bulgogi rice was super tasty and the rice was still soft when I received it. A lot of takeout restaurant's rice usually gets super hard and in clumps by the time it's delivered to me so that was a plus. The only downside was that it's a bit pricey for it but I didn't mind since I'm supporting my local restaurants in this time of crisis. Overall, tasty food. Good packaging. I got the chicken combo with half Korean sauce and half regular fried chicken. I really wanted to like it, but the chicken was honestly super dry and hard, like it was sitting for a whiiiile. The regular fried chicken was slightly more on the bland side, I had to fight the urge to reach for the ketchup bottle or another condiment in my fridge. The Korean sauce flavor honestly straight up tasted like gochujang - red pepper paste- mixed with a little sugar or something. I really miss eating Korean-style chicken in Korea so had some hopes for this plce, but unfortunately I was not super satisfied. SPEED: Not sure if it's because we live minutes away from Lim's but delivery was super fast. 20 min! FOOD: We ordered the japchae, korean sweet and spicy wings; kimchi and pork and vegetable dumplings. The food smelled soo good as soon as we opened the bag. Only thing to note is we wish the dumplings came with a dipping sauce. Overall, everything was delicious! When we feel it's safe to go out to eat again, we would definitely go to Lim's. I ordered delivery from Lim's Kitchen - got the fried chicken combo with korean sweet and spicy sauce lvl 2. I was tempted to try the lvl 5 sauce because I love spicy food, but I'm glad I didn't. The lvl 2 has a decent kick to it, and the fried chicken was delicious with the perfect amount of spice. We also got the bulgogi kimbap and the spicy pork over rice. Both dishes were okay. The sauce on the spicy pork was delicious, but the actual pieces of meat were a bit too much in the fatty side for my personal taste. The fried chicken was definitely the standout item in my order. To my knowledge, this place opened up right around this whole covid craziness happened, and I cannot say this enough: what a WONDERFUL addition to LIC, and I say this with my WHOLE CHEST!! You can taste the authenticity in this food, made with all the steps like a grandma would make it, all without the insanely inflated prices you find in koreatown. They've got everything you crave that's korean: ooey gooey ddukbogi rice cakes, crispy crunchy sweet chicken wings, and heart warming tofu soups and fried rice/noodles. Our soy chicken wings were marvelously crispy without being greasy; they thoughtfully packed it so air could escape from the container without making the chicken soggy en route to your home. i also ordered a beef seafood soup, and it tasted exactly like the tofu soup i love and remember eating growing up; i had not been able to find a place that had that depth of flavor, but i am so thankful i can now purchase this just a few blocks from where i live. they also filled our order to the brim with banchan/appetizer/pickled side dishes and miso soup. Was not expecting to receive this much, but it really rounded out our meal. the kimbaps are great and affordable options to snack on or have a quick lunch as well. we got the shrimp tempura and the bulgogi bc i have no self control. i will thank myself later as i munch on them the rest of the week :) In our 100% accurate order, we even received a chocopie and seaweed with the sweetest handwritten thank you note. It was also prepared quite quickly (within 15 minutes!). When picking up your own food, head around to the side (there will be signs directing you where to go and what doorbell to ring). Right now they're only taking online orders through third party sites (Seamless, Yelp etc), so you can't call in orders from your personal phone. (2/5) 3. spicy pork kimbap - rice to "stuffing" ratio was great. Good size & taste was clean (4/5) 4. pork cutlet - it was good but the sauce it came with was not my fav. It tasted something like a chicken gravy mixed with ketchup. It was just a little odd. Dipped ours in the jjajang sauce instead. (3/5) 5. udong jjajang (brown sauce) - 2 thumbs up! The udong noodles were genius. By the time we got home and poured our sauce over the noodles, they separated and took on the flavors really well. Flavor was good and next time I get a jjajangmyun craving, I'll know where to go. Overall price is a bit higher than I am used to but you are also getting pretty big portions so I can't really complain. When you have a pretty extensive menu, not everything is going be perfect.
