Small business near my house that has a small selection of goods. I really like coming here, albeit the the selection a small, but the people are always friendly and helpful. I once had an issue with my plumbing and the staff member took so much time to explain to me what exactly I needed. I felt confident in what I was purchasing. I don't always feel that way when I go to the Big Box stores. And when they don't have something, they can either order it or help you find it. I'm all about small local businesses. These guys are honest, key cutting is lightning fast and dirt cheap and they put up with a lot of guff from folks without losing their cool. Came in last night and their was a woman flustered about her jacuzzi malfunctioning and the guy behind the register helped her sort out who to contact at the manufacturer without letting her short temper irk him. Another guy living on the street was trying to return a bunch of items that had rusted from outside wear and tear and the manager was super patient explaining which items were built for outdoor durability and which would rust. This was all in a short visit, and they still managed to get me out the door quickly. It's the small stuff! read more

They have a wide variety of products, including for older style houses. They have plenty of workers who are always available to help you out and give practical advice. Returns are easy. Well... Very Un-Friendly... Fisher's Hardware is much better!!! I'm very sorry to be the one to give this store a crappy rating, but I am a hardware store regular. My business requires me to spend at least 3 days a week coming to a hardware store, and it used to be this one until today :( This was my regular store unless I needed something that they didn't have and I would have to go to that awful place called Home Depot. Today I went in to get some small cable pieces for a few tests that I had to run. Last week I got the same small pieces here (they had to cut them to 6 inch lengths). But today for some reason the first sales person said he was not allowed to cut them at 6 inches, only at a foot because the cash register can only ring up a foot. I told him about last week and said if we cut many 6 inch pieces that it would total a couple feet and the cash register should not have a problem. He said he could not do it. I went and talked to the cranky old man behind the register (the owner I believe). His thought was that it had nothing to do with the cash register but instead he did not want to waist his time on it (I'm talking about 4 cuts - not a lot of time). I asked him why and told him about my loyalty. He replied: "You ask me WHY??? I don't need a reason... In fact I don't even need to sell this to you!!!" I reminded him once more about my loyalty here, and that really seemed to piss him off... I told him "you will no longer be seeing my face here and I am taking my business to Fisher's!!!" I went straight down to Fisher's Hardware on Lincoln and Broadway and they didn't even look twice to cut my pieces... And in fact it was about half the price. HA!!! Fisher's Hardware is Father Son owned and they know there stuff!!! A much better selection and very friendly... Plus you don't have to spend $10 just to use your card... I'm sorry Lincoln Hardware our relationship is over!!!! It's not me... It's you... I know I know, but I already found someone else... They just treat me better than you... A fully stocked hardware store with EVERYTHING, right in the heart of Venice. They cater to artists and DIYers, not to mention the trade. The guys are gruff but know their products and really want to help solve the problem. I don't know what it is about this place that makes me love it so much. It's easily the best hardware store I have ever come across--and completely enjoyable to shop at. If you knew me, you'd probably be laughing your face off reading this review already because you'd be wondering why the heck I'm raving about a hardware store. But that's the point! They make you feel like you're going to embark on an awesome project no matter what you're there for. The staff is absolutely the best. I like to support local businesses and try to do that whenever possible. *Note: My 2 star review is only for the customer service part here.* I needed a couple keys made, walk in and say hello - no response, nothing. I ask the guy at the front register where I get them. He tells me to go to the back. Ok, I stroll down the aisle and I am surprised at the variety of products they have (more than you can see from the outside). Guy #2 also does not respond to my greeting (I start thinking - is there something wrong with me???). He also seemed grouchy and when I left and said bye, no goodbye from anyone. The service was fast, keys are good - but man, what about the attitude? Did I just come on a bad day or something? Is it too much to ask for some basic politeness (hi bye how are you - not even talking about a SMILE!). It really put me off. read more

I found the screwdriver section in about 60 seconds flat. - The helpful staff, who patiently helped me select the proper Phillips head screwdriver with which to build a piece of furniture (I'd brought in one of the relevant screws). I like this place. I like the size and scope of the store -- it's compact and well-organized. It seems like the kind of place that has everything you need, without a lot of random "fluff" to upsell. So, if you're like me, and you walk in and realize there is *something* you need to get, but can't quite remember what it is, you can wander the aisles until you have that "A ha" moment when you see the item you'd forgotten you needed. And sometimes I like to go to a hardware store to just look around and brainstorm solutions to my fix-it projects, and this is the perfect-sized place for that kind of approach. I also like the parking lot -- easy in, easy out, ample parking, at least on a weekday afternoon. As for service? I'd read the reviews re: rude staff, but I went in with an open mind. Happy to report, I was greeted within seconds of entering the front door, and a polite gent took care of my key copies right away. 1 star is entirely for customer service. Went here, knowing I'd pay more (try $38 for something I know would cost about $12 at Home Depot) but wanting to support a local business. Not to mention that doing so usually translates into better customer service. I walked in for a wooden stick I needed to have cut to size to use for hangers in an armoire. Dude in the back decides that he's going to be sassy with me (he thought he was being funny), we've never met. Another customer notices it's all a little racey and then my mom and friend nearly fall over when the jokes descend into flat out harassment. The guy actually said the words "Or maybe you just started paying attention when you heard me talking about this BIG POLE" as he held up the big wooden (now clearly phallic) pole that I, by then, wanted to break on his head. It took a whole lot of self restraint for my mom and my friend (who had both just met and were on their best behavior but are now both kicking themselves) not to cause a scene. The guy had no sense of awareness, I actually reacted out loud and said "wow he went there" and my friend said "yes, yes he did"...it didn't slow the idiot down in the slightest. He just kept right on cracking the off-color jokes and at least pretending not to notice everyone's discomfort. In the end, while I was paying for the items at the front end of the store, he walked up from the back and cracked another one as we checked out, for good measure (read: yes, he was actually following us around the store). He was having an absolute dumbass, clueless blast. It was so beyond stupid I think we were borderline entertained (but equally appalled) and I have no idea why we stayed or even completed our purchase. This place is absolutely not safe for women, or anyone with functioning brain cells for that matter. read more

This place is pretty nice. I try to shop here when I need items for the apartment because it's local, and I believe in supporting local businesses. The guys that run this place seem...well, I don't know...harassed? They are definitely helpful and there's always someone ready to answer questions, but they all act super busy and avoid eye contact like crazy. I suspect that it could be due to the fact that they are located on Lincoln Blvd, so they must get crazies through there on a regular basis. Unfortunately this hardware store does not know how to make keys. I went three times with two different people and their keys do not work. They have an old key making machine. The keys look bulky and of low quality. After multiple attempts, I had no choice but to go to home depo after my bad experience at Lincoln Hardware. I will not return nor do I recommend this place. read more

Love this old neighborhood hardware store. They're always SO helpful. I always work with either Michael or Jose. Even though it's a smaller hardware store, they somehow have everything. As I was waiting for Michael to cut a metal pole for me someone walked through the door and said "I love this place. You guys have everything" Smiled to myself. Another walks in telling his friend, "they're so helpful and they have everything here." I smile again. This place reminds me of the little local hardware stores I went to with my dad as a kid. Total nostalgia, starting with the huge sign out front that looks like it is straight out of the 70's. This place has everything I could want from bolts and nuts to house hold cleaning supplies. If you are looking for speciality items or high tech dimmers it might not be your spot. This review is long overdue! Lincoln Hardware is the best neighborhood hardware store I have ever come across. Every time I step in here, I am greeted and asked if there is anything I need help with. The staff who work here go are friendly and helpful when I need answers to any question. I really dislike going to big warehouse stores like HD or Lowe's, and it feels great to be able to support a local business. I don't dread going here, I actually look forward to it! Once, I came here looking for a European lightbulb for a specialty lamp that I had ordered from overseas. Lincoln Hardware opened a few bulb packages for me just to test out the bulbs. When none of their stoked bulbs fit, they pointed me out to another store that would have it. I was appreciative of the time and suggestions that they gave me to help me out. Lincoln Hardware is that kind of place, something you might guess from the cool but elderly neon sign out front . All I've done there is get some keys made, but I had a great time browsing the odds and ends. Would give zero stars if possible. Called ahead of time to confirm wether or not I could have a 2x4 cut for me (as I purchased the wood elsewhere). Upon arriving I informed the associate at the register and they pointed me in the right direction. I waited patiently for the correct person, as he was helping someone else. The workshop area is in the back of the store, through a door- the man who would be helping me came out from behind with the other customers finished product- To which I simply gave a polite "hello." His response: "you aren't who I want to talk to" as he breezed past me to hand over the customers item. I then waited for them to complete their exchange before explaining that I wanted to have the 2x4 cut. His response: "here's what you do- you can buy a saw and put the wood over your knee or on the curb and go like this" (indicating a sawing motion). Upon this, I walked out. I am beyond upset and insulted by this sexist and flat out rude employee. As I left, I spoke with one of the associates at the register and told him what just had taken place- and expressed to him how I wanted to support a local hardware store. Great little place...I had gone to Home Depot to make key copies only to find out a few weeks later when my boyfriend was trying to come home that Home Depot had somehow messed up copying the keys. Fabulous. I looked up reviews and came here...and as easy as could be (despite the chatty chatterson real estate agents in front of me that had to make about 20 copies) I had my key copies all done - fast and cheap. BIG fan of this place. Everyone's assessment of the odd personalities are indeed correct. From the middle-eastern owner (who takes VERY good care of his employees) to the 87 year old man in the back making the keys, this place is truly awesome. One particular day I was forced to make several trips to this place (plumbing issues) and the 87 year-old was manning the register and he said, "Your twin brother was just in here 10 minutes ago and he didn't know what he was doing either!" So please yes, let's keep these boys in business. Someone in here wrote they weren't knowledgeable and to head over to B&B Hardware? Right. I dig this place. It's right around the corner from me, the guys that work there always have something interesting, and they almost always have what I'm looking for. Plus there's always someone around to help you find what you need. I have to admit part of what I like about this place is just the nostalgia it evokes in me and because they don't do the volume of the super warehouse stores, their prices are definitely higher, but if you live in Venice this place is definitely the most convenient for your hardware needs. read more
