Linda Rosa Market is located at 1823 East Villa Street Pasadena, California 91107. It is a hidden gem. It is worth searching out and finding. You won't see a building from the address; it is only a driveway off of East Villa Street. If you go straight up Allen you will see Baldwin alley. You can turn right on Baldwin alley going north and find the market with plenty of parking available. It is easy to see why those that find this Market really enjoy it. It is like a convenience store with a combination of South of the border and Southern Asian products. There is also a large refrigerated area along the wall that has any number of juices, drinks, and beers. You have to walk down each aisle so that you can see the number of products that you can't find anywhere else. Spices packaged as well as cans and jars of specialty flavors. There was a meat and cheese display along a counter covered with glass. A variety of meats and cheeses were available. There was a preparation area close by with a blender and air fryer. During the week for lunch they make fresh tacos there that have great flavor and are very popular. I tried the carnitas. Gary made them fresh for me and they had great spice and were well worth the reasonable cost. Everything was made fresh. They are hoping to expand food preparation in the future. I look forward to that day. There were a few people in the store that are definitely regulars as they knew exactly where to go to find the items they were looking for. I was directed by two people at the front counter as to what area is to look for the products that I wanted to pick up. As I expressed at the beginning of this review this Market is worth seeking out. I can't wait to come back and pick up some other items that I know that I can't find anywhere else. Their Indian section is very popular with friends of mine. It's nice that the front desk will translate some of the labels that were hard to decipher. I have been going to this market for the past six years to get the best flap meat for Carne Asada when I am there there's also some other things I need. The prices are very reasonable for just things like some paper plates or forks that you might need for a picnic. I love the new owners have introduced a whole section of Indian ingredients and much more reasonable than the another Indian market a few blocks away. The owners are always friendly and I have tried different foods that they cook there. Delicious every time. I love to support small businesses as much as possible if the service and product is good. This market has both. They are hard-working and friendly people and you can tell they have a great relationship with all the people from the neighborhood that frequent this 60+ year old market. -Faith read more

I have found my taco place. My boyfriend and I were hungry and we wanted tacos but something a little different from the King Taco style. We were going to stop at the taco place in front but saw the little market and decided to try their food and grab a few things we needed. The ladies who work in the little kitchen in the back of the store are super sweet and definitely authentic down home cooks. The tacos were generously filled with flavorful juicy Barbacoa meat stuffed into perfectly toasty dipped corn tortillas. I asked for a small side of the Barbacoa consommé to dip the taco in. My tastebuds and tummy did a happy dance. The next day I had a bit of a hangover and I knew exactly where to go. Looking forward to trying more items from the menu. My parents brought me home from the hospital in 1975, to house at the other end of the alley from Linda Rosa market. Within a few years, I was walking or riding my bike down here to get a Popsicle or a candy bar. Years ago, before the big fire during the LA rio tax they used to serve cooked meats and tacos from the butcher counter, as well as prepared asada to take home and grill. Today, you can still buy pretty good marinated meat here, but the price isn't the smoking deal it used to be. The store has seen a dozen different owners since those days, and each new owner has slightly changed the place... Although the name has stayed the same, and a lot of the same products are still on the shelves... In some cases, it feels like the SAME cans that were there when I was a kid in the 80s! In high school when I could eat anything and maintain my body weight, I used to go there for a buttermilk, three Chocodiles, and a bunch of packets of Limón salt... Then the next owner stopped carrying those items. One owner sold 2 liters of soda for a discount price, but it had to be "Warm Only!" A sign warned that cold 2 liters of the same product were more expensive! Currently, I'm not crazy about this place. The prices are no longer a neighborhood deal, and the produce and meat counter don't have quite the same panache. The cashiers range from "Hello, Boss, my friend!" to completely ignoring you for the sake of a phone call, spoken loudly enough in Maharashtra or Tamil or something that you can enjoy the music of the dialect from the back of the store. Occasionally, the sweetish smell of rotting produce is obvious, and the place needs a good once over with some Mr. Clean Magic erasers or something. It's just... Dingy. If I'm buying a quick six or something, I always prefer M&S on the other side of the building.... Still, this place has been a part of my life for nearly 4 decades, and hope it sticks around for a while. Or at least until these owners get tired of it and sell it to someone cool. New owner again and changed a lot. No more guacamole and salsa sold. Changed the Taco price($2.49+tax/Taco which is a lot for market tacos). Try Puebla next door, awesome! The only reason I'd go to Linda Rosa for Tacos is for a quick grab after I buy veggies. The cook tried pretty hard to convince me to buy some of their pre-prepped stuff next to the Taco stand. Where do I begin. One fine Summer morning while chatting over the fence with my long-time neighbor, Mr. Guerrero, we came upon the subject of great grilled meat. He asked if I'd ever had the marinated pollo or beef from Linda Rosa market. Well, I'm sure I'd passed that place a thousand times in my (ahem!!) many years as a Pasadena resident. However, not once did it occur to me to pop in and see what they had to offer. Neighbor, Neighbor, Neighbor...how can I EVER thank you for turning me on to this place. With regard to it's appearance, modest is an understatement. But you quickly forget your surroundings as you make your way to the back, where the meat counter is. There are goodies galore. The items I have tried are the marinated pollo (I add just a touch of sea salt before grilling), the beef Ranchero (I just ask for marinated asada), their hot (and fresh) salsa and the fresh guacamole. All EXCELLENT choices!!! The pricing is very, very reasonable. The proprietor does not forget a face...and he has recommended the already prepared Carnitas at the cooked food counter inside. I am not a big pork person...so I haven't tried it yet. Nonetheless, I DO plan to get some when I am having friends over for a taco night at the house. Just one taste and my friends and family KEEP asking where the meat is from. I just got a text message today asking for the address. This place has THE worse carne asada meat to cook. This meat is one of the lowest quality I have had in a very long time. I wet to get several pounds of meat for a family gathering and this thing is completely dry. High quality meat has to have certain amount of fat, but this thing is so darn dry NOTHING comes out of it. No juice or anything. I also tried pan seared it but the meat was completely dry and flavorless. No matter how I cooked it it came out like beef jerky. I even went back and order more meat and I asked them to cut it thicker and the result was the same. Plain dry carne asada. This marked used to have one of the best carne asada but definitely not anymore. It is terrible and nobody at my party was happy with the carne asada. Este es la peor tienda que vende carne asada. I want to support local businesses , and have been going here for few years , BUT the owners are rude and dishonest. A few times, i have been charged the wrong prices ( on purpose ) and when i brought it up , both the wife and husband , got mad and had attitude !!! I went last nite , spent 67.00 ( but made the mistake , didn't ask ) the prices of certain items. So when i went tonite , tried asling how much the loaf of bread is , he said he doesn't know ???!!!! What !!!! That right there, tells me , u charge different prices , depending what day or who it is for. It is dishonest !!!! He said , i should of checked , when i was there last nite ( not come 2 or 3 days later , WTH , its one day later !! But he didn't want to hear it. He is a liar like his wife. The best skirt steak (carne ranchera) in all of Los Angeles. Order it "marinada" and grill medium well. The pollo marinado is very good as well. I have been to many carnicerias and NO ONE comes close to their skirt steak. The owner mentioned they get their meat exclusively through this ranch where they cows are grass fed and free range. I Higly recommend it even if it means a long drive. read more

On the description it says it includes avocado, to my surprise, the torta was missing it. I go and check their menu on Yelp. To my surprise, the torta and Taco appeared to be a dollar cheaper. I love supporting a neighborhood business. From the outside, it doesn't look like much, maybe a glorified liquor store, but when I walked through the doors, the aromas that greeted me blew me away. The meat counter has very fresh meat, and even a hot food counter. The chicharones are delicious. They have a good selection of fresh produce at cheaper than grocery store prices. I paid .50 for a bunch of cilantro. Usually at Vons it's around .99, and its the same quality. The food selection is really good too. I'm glad I discovered this little gem. read more

My go to for carne asada was closed for the Memorial Day holiday so took advice from yelp to try this place. Empty and walked up to the counter asked if they had ranchera to BBQ. He said yes. I saw the steaks just sitting there in the case. Asked if they had any that was marinated. He said yes. Asked that price because I didn't see it in the case. 6.49/lb the stuff that was in the case. Yes but do you have any marinated. Yes okay. He grabs the unmarinated stuff from the case. And then adds some kinda of pre labeled pre manufactured marinade and adds it's to the meat. Umm Marinated means it sits in the sauce to get the flavor. Haven't tried it yet will update soon. Upon check out, the cashiers were a little pushy. "Anything else for you?" Nope. "We have a special on mangos." Nope. "Okay here's your total. Oh lucky numbers, do you lucky want lotto or scratcher tickets?" Nope. Update: After trying the meat it was really nice and tender. A little salty. I'll probably order the meat again and just leave off the marinade and make my own. Definitely delicate, so cook to medium to medium. well. It'll dry up if you leave it too long. Started going to this place for the food we used to go there just for groceries but there's a new cook. U can't really see there's a kitchen from the outside but walked in there and the kitchen is hidden in the corner ! The lady working the kitchen now makes amazing Birria ,tacos and the CHICHARRON !!! Im hooked I'll stop at least once a week and sometimes on my lunch I'll make 15 min drive just for the food !! I tried the guacamole and the salsa super authentic and spicy. The owner (and his wife) are COMPLETE pricks. We moved to the neighborhood and thought we go to this 'convenient' little convenience store. It really is a glorified convenience store, filled to the brim with cheap goods. I mean, the dollar store has better quality products (especially the one on Colorado next to the school...I've never been to a better stocked dollar store in my life). Several arrangements look like a food safety violation (they serve the raw meat too close to the prepared meals for my taste). Anyway, I came in one day, hoping to buy chips and snacks. The owner's wife (or sister, who cares) RUDELY and roughly bumped into me several times, so I knew it wasn't an accident. Then she goes behind the counter, jabbering on and on in their language (Tamil or some other Indian language) while the owner tries to give me change (just slapping it in my hand). This guy's bread and butter stems from the fact that he speaks Spanish and looks Latino in a neighborhood with a large Hispanic population. My mother and I had been shoppers several time there before but NEVER AGAIN. Also, he and the guy that serves meat constantly conspire on how to rip you off by over-charging for meat. For being a small market they have a huge variety of items, produce, dairy, meat, beer, general merchandise, cleaning products, mexican ethnic foods, etc... This place got a completely new upgrade...starting from management to remodeling, to groceries and bomb ranchera meat ( the best I've had to date!) The store is really nice and clean. Compared to what I've seen with the past couple owners, the new owner has completely changed this place up and brought it back to life! And honestly, customer service is fhe most important thing, and this new owner is a young guy who really cares about his customers and making sure they are getting everything they need. I really want to like this place. I live within walking distance and come here about 2 to 3 times a week. It's easy and convenient. The salsa is good, I like the marinated chicken you can buy, and yes, it's right by my house. The one thing that really gets me is that whoever is checking you out is ALWAYS on the phone. Seriously. Every time. I went in yesterday and the guy just pointed to my total on the register so he didn't have to interrupt his conversation. It's the worst customer service ever. GET OFF THE PHONE! Superb marinated beef for carne asada. This is a good, friendly place to park quickly and grab the vegetables and groceries you need. I've been coming for over 20 years, easily once a month, and have never had problems with freshness or quality. However, it only gets a 2 because it just doesn't feel clean and it's very dluttered. I'd give it a three, but my three would be a B-, not an A-OK. read more
