Yesterday I went here to get ribs, fresh ground hamburger meat and chicken. The meat worker was patient, courteous and attentive. Than during checkout the general manager helped check me out. I love seeing a general manager with so much power, responsibilities and stress helping out on the front end. It makes it look like team work isn't above his pay grade. This is easily the tenth time an employee has interrupted my transaction. It's constant. The fact that these people think this is fine to do means they put the customer last. This lady actually walked in front of me and closed the line with her little spiral wire. Then I spoke up and they acted as if they did not expect anyone to actually object. It's ridiculous. Last time I was here there were people complaining about the smell in the restroom. Your customers need to come first Stater Brothers. Not your paperwork. Stop what you are doing and try to focus on customer service. I'm going elsewhere. The worst customer service is here at Stater Brothers. I was here on a Wednesday morning at 8 and it was quite busy. I had asked Albert at the meat department for a tri tip roast. He rudely said it would be around 15 minutes, so I continued shopping and came back in 20. I had asked Albert if my tri tip was ready. He said it would be another 15 minutes and left to use the restroom. Jose saw me waiting and asked if i needed help. I told him that I was waiting for a tri tip roast and Albert said it would be a while. Jose went to the walk in cooler and pulled out a tri tip roast and wrapped it up for me. Not sure if Albert was just having an "off" day but did not provide good service. Jose, on the other hand was able to accommodate my request immediately. I'm not used to this, since all other Stater Bros I've ever been to have always provided great service in the meat department. Jose saved the day. This is my 3rd time shopping at this store and never had this issue, despite it being busy. I'll still come back since I love their meats. Honestly, what has happened to your fried chicken? It used to be pretty good. Now, every single time I go there thinking that one last batch was probably just a bad one, it turns out that it's all been consistently bad. You need some serious quality control here at this station. First off, you have mounds and mounds of this chicken sitting under a heat lamp. You should probably cook them in smaller batches. Also, almost all the pieces are either overcooked, unevenly coated, or both. The last pieces I bought from your store were practically inedible (one piece was like biting into a cowboy boot). Even your workers know that some of those pieces are not good, so they have to dig through the pile to get you decent looking ones. So, what's happening here is you're probably ending up throwing all these pieces out at the end of the day, and you're wasting food and money. And your staff should probably have a little more pride in what they're putting out there. It's just a sad, sad look. Just my two cents! read more

My first time at Stater Bros and am kicking myself for not shopping here sooner! Prices are great and much better then my local grocery spots that I go to due to convenience. Bye bye Ralph's! Some things I saved on are: Stater Bros Large Brown Eggs are currently buy 2 dozen get one FREE; 3 dozen large brown eggs under $10! Another comparison is case of Martinelli's Apple Juice was $21.99 here verse $24.99 where I normally buy it. Tito's Vodka $18 compared to $21 elsewhere. Even National brand kids diapers were less at Stater's than where I usually go! Hey, every penny counts right! I forgot I came for the steaks... Meat Department here rocks! Good quality beef cuts on display and again reasonably priced. Certified Angus Beef brand is the "premium beef" at meat counter... The Choice selection was abundant but I didn't check it out. Also, the butcher department can customize your cut selection, tenderize, grind, season, and vacuum seal your meat at no charge, if you request it. The market was highly busy during my visit and all check-out stands were available - I was in and out in no time! Fully stocked and clean, friendly service, reasonable prices equals repeat visit from me and 5 stars all the way. I love it here! read more

I never feel like I'm at RALPH'S or VONS when I shop here! It's like the employees actually WANT you at t STATER BROS. I had trouble finding an Int'l product, and a employee stocking the frozen foods aisle DROPPED his task, followed a hunch and FOUND my product a few aisles away. He told me he bought it from Amazon. I checked Ralphs and Vons and they don't carry chocolate rice krispy treats. Then I searched instacart, and they said Stater Bros had them in stock. Today, I came by this Stater Bros, but they only had one and it was the last one because it said on the shelf that this was a discontinued item. I feel lucky, I bought the last one. I came in on Tuesday around lunch time (my first time shopping at a stater bros) with a food emergency and approached Chris in the deli department, he took care of all my concerns, made sure my staff was fed for my event and I went about my day. I came back again the next day with another food emergency, once again, Chris took care of my request and made sure we were taken care of. I use to be a Vons shopper but switched to Stater Bros shortly after it opened. I love seeing the general manager and other management on the floor assisting with guests & making sure their face gets seen. What I don't love is turning into a line with a light on and seeing the cashier & bagger girl chit chatting while there are lines forming and YVETTE the cashier wasn't helping her co workers get the line down. I was in a rush & asked if she was still open & she said yes. As I'm putting my 16 groceries on the belt I heard her LOUDLY "whisper" to the young lady bagging the groceries, "I should have said no". They laughed about it but I was livid to say the least. How rude ? I'm sorry I inconvenienced your talking time during peak time. I'm sorry I had 16 groceries on your belt. Her comment was Unacceptable & unnecessary. Very ignorant comment to make when it's your job as a cashier to ring up guests. Find another job if you don't like what you do. The young lady needs to be trained on how to bag groceries properly. I brought 4 bags from home & she stuffed everything in one bag & put both loads of bread in the front of the cart UNBAGGED. What kind of sense does that make? I re-bagged once I got to my trunk. Bring back hospitable cashiers that don't make snooty comments for guests to hear like Stevie, he was great! I did not notice until I was in Maria's line & told her about the 40 cent difference & she cut me off and said "do you want it or not?" . It was only 40 cents so I paid for it but it was the attitude that I didn't appreciate. I went in last night after working for one of my clients in Pasadena. What a sweet surprise it was to find this market! The store was super clean and organized! I was grateful that they were open on Easter Sunday. They had a great selection on fruits and veggies. Everything super fresh and great prices! I picked up some rotisserie chicken and some fresh asparagus and some beautiful arugula for a salad. The staff was super friendly and professional. The regular prices were very high, so I sought out specials. They have a great selection of meat and cheese. I didn't feel like cooking, so I purchased an eight piece of the fried chicken. The chicken was incredibly salty. I'm not sure if somebody just went crazy with the salt shaker, but I've gotten chicken there before,and it wasn't insanely salty like that. End of a good thing!! I work in the area and been coming here for the sandwiches that were made to my exact liking. Now they did away with the sandwiches and offer them prepackaged that are bland tasting and very slim with the condiments. No more fresh made to order. This Stater Bros has insanely amazing service. I came during rush time on a Saturday. Since I was looking for tri tip and sliced cheese, I had to go to the service counters for both. I was greeted promptly upon arrival and the workers sliced everything exactly to my specifications. My experience was markedly better than ones I've had at other local markets. I purchased a quart of store brand half and half. When I poured it into my coffee today, it came out in chunks. It has been refrigerated since I bought it. The date is current. I called the store and spoke to Roxanne. She was rude and was unwilling to make it right. I go out of my way to shop there. I have usually been satisfied with the products and customer care. This is no longer the case. In a day when the retention of customer loyalty is non existent, is a sad day indeed. All of this over a product that has a value of less than $3.00. When this Pasadena store opened a few years ago, it was great, but it has steadily gone downhill since. In particular, the meat department was stellar early on, but has gradually declined in quality, service, and variety--rarely having what I'm looking for anymore. For example, I used to reserve a fresh turkey for Thanksgiving, but they no longer offer that service, so I've started going elsewhere. The final straw was my experience leading up to the Fourth of July. A week before the holiday, I asked if they had any brisket. All they had were several 14-18 lb vacuum-sealed slabs. They said they couldn't cut a smaller brisket. There was one that looked smaller in the butcher's case, but I was told it was the last day to cook it, as they were throwing it out at the end of the day. I said I'd check back closer to the holiday. A couple of days before the Fourth, I came back to see if they had any reasonably sized briskets. Online, it showed they had 8 lb briskets, but in-store, all they had were those large pre-packaged slabs. I went to the meat counter and was the only person there, while 6-7 employees worked behind the counter. Not one of them came up to offer assistance. I was polite and waited, but as I stood there, two men arrived after me--and someone rushed up to help them immediately, leaving me (a woman) and another man who had also arrived after me just standing there. I asked if someone could help, given how disorganized things were and how many employees were behind the counter. One came over, and I asked again about the brisket. I was told they only had the large slabs. I asked if they could a smaller brisket for me. He asked the only woman behind the counter--who appeared to be cutting meat for packaging--and she said no. What kind of butcher refuses to provide a reasonable-sized cut? At checkout, I was asked if I found everything I needed. I said no and explained that they advertise 8 lb briskets online, but I had come in twice and not found any, and the butcher had refused to cut one. The cashier said that didn't sound right. She went to check, and after a while came back with a different story--sounding a little shaky, as if she'd had words with the meat department. She said the butcher would cut an 8 lb brisket only if I first paid for the entire large slab before they cut it. Huh? That directly contradicted what I was told earlier at the counter. I left and won't be returning. So much for those ads promising "friendly faces just waiting to help with all your needs" and "highly qualified butchers." Those ads nauseate me now. It seems Stater Bros only cares when a store first opens--you can pound dirt after that. Thankfully, Pasadena has plenty of good grocery options. I won't be back to Stater Bros. read more

Went to buy Tri tip and shrimp. Tri tip looked great, picking up 4 roasts. Went to buy shrimp, marked 8.99 a pound. Butcher wrapped it up, charged 9.99 a pound? I walked away not knowing that, realized it? Walked back, sign said 8,99 a pound. Asked butcher to change the price? He said he couldn't? I said really, stupid is what stupid does? Told him to keep his shrimp and left the tri tip. Reported the incident to the manager, who looked confused? I WILL NOT BE SHOPPING HERE AGAIN. Nice job!!! read more

Drove all the way out to this stater bros because we loved the meat options and how organized the store was.. this market is pretty out of the way for us but we loved going for the experience and great quality. I visited Tuesday afternoon. I was at the meat counter and received the worst service. The butcher helping us was a tad bit rude and make us feel extremely uncomfortable about only getting one pound of meat... it made me super uncomfortable and slightly embarrassed. Groceries now a days are quite expensive, asking for a pound of meat should not be frond upon. Please do better and show employees how to treat customers. read more

When I was a kid in middle school during the late 80s, Stater Brothers has this decidedly redneck sounding theme song on their commercial called "In the Heartland." While it had little to do with grocery shopping, it sang of Central Valley values; hard work, geographic distance from places like Beverly Hills and Venice, lifelong friendship, and marrying the girl next-door. Next door. Seriously. As I recall, everyone in the commercial had a mustache, there were a lot of big rigs driving around and backing into loading docks, and there seemed to be a deliberate attempt to represent the ethnic diversity of the San Joaquin Valley. It also - - perhaps inadvertently - - positioned Stater Brothers as a rural grocery store, at least in my impressionable preteen mind. Therefore, anytime I saw one, I remembered lines like "where the girl next-door can become your wife, every friend you make is a friend for life!" But I didn't think about tomatoes, or pasta sauce, or ground round. Or Ruffles potato chips, or Doritos. Or ice cream sandwiches... You get the idea. When I heard that the Pavilions/ Vons was closing at this location, and a Stater Brothers was going in... Just a mile or two from my childhood home in my native Pasadena, those same old memories came back. Imagine my surprise to walk into the store the other night, and rather than see dudes and cowboy hats and dirty jeans, there was a fresh sushi station, a well appointed bakery and deli section, and lots of people shopping that did not look like we were somewhere just outside of Fresno. No, Stater Brothers apparently has come into its own, casting off the shackles of 1980s marketing, and joining the competitive rat race of one stop grocery shopping. No stinky rotten produce smell, lots of variety in the meat counter, all the canned goods you could ever want. Yep, this is a suburban grocery store at its finest, even if it's not exactly in the heartland. One other noteworthy point: The store offers its own brand of several items, including the 3 pound bag of tortilla chips I bought for a couple of bucks. Much like Kroger brand foods are used as price point competitors for name brands in Ralph's stores, stater brothers stuff is generally just as good, and might save you a few dollars the next time you go shopping. read more

Great new addition to north Pasadena! Stater Bros Markets is known for its butchery/meat area which is great compared to other meat sections of Vons, ralphs and even Whole Foods. There's a hot and cold deli, bakery and even a nice sushi area. Good size produce area and all the other amenities to make this a great addition to Pasadena. Plenty of parking as well. Pleasantly pleased! How was it: Came here the Monday before Thanksgiving expected large crowds of people shopping for last minute gobbles and gibbles. Glad there wasn't too many people. Seems as if people are just getting used to the store. The busiest sections were produce and the meat counter. The produce seemed really fresh and really well organized. I usually shop at Whole Foods and Trader Joe's because they are closer to me and I like the selection and variety. Although this store is out of my way I will come here for their fried chicken! It was really fresh and super juicy and flavorful! I was impressed how inexpensive it was too! Service: Seemed good at first but they still have some kinks to straighten out when bagging the groceries. Thankfully I was paying attention when they were bagging or I would have had smashed groceries. Vibe: I like the layout of the store and how organized and well stocked it was. It's definitely a community grocery store and caters to locals. Prices: Reasonable Parking: Plenty of well lit parking and really thought out with plenty of walk ways for shoppers. Also all the shopping carts are where they are suppose to be! Overall: I would recommend locals check out the produce and fried chicken. Both of those were the highlight of my experience here. It's a little out of the way from the city so for most Pasadena folks it may not be the right option but for Altadena and Hastings this is a great option!
