I purchased a round loaf of Gata bread several months ago and loved it because it was soft and sweet. This morning, I looked for the same item but was told by an employee that the store did not have that bread anymore. Instead, I was taken to a corner and offered a plastic container of Gata cookies. When I opened the plastic container, I tried a Gata cookie and discovered it was hard and stale. I kept the receipt and drove back to the store that evening to try and get a $10.99 refund, but was told by the cashier, who called the owner/manager, Vahan, and was told Vahan said that I could not be refunded because the plastic container had already been opened. How else could I try this cookie without opening the container? For the first time, I am disappointed with the decision made by the owner/manager. read more

There are no roaches. Whoever said that clearly had something against someone in the store. I've been coming here for 10+ years strictly for the deli. It's the only place I can get salami that doesn't ruin my appetite and always tastes fresh. The quality is everything I could ask for I've turned so many people onto this place FOR the deli. Aside from that, their other products around the store are also so good. I recommend trying to pear and tarragon sodas. The cheeses and fruits also always fresh. The place is a godsend and a mixed bag. They have a large selection of foods you want, and need, from the region, so if you have to get yufka, olive oil, feta, sucuk, tahini, etc., you've got to go to this place. Some of the stuff they have here is quite delightful, but you never really know what until you get it home; the yellow nectarines can be amazing and the white ones awful; the food may be expired or fresh; the olive oil can be garbage or world-class; and the olives just plain stink now that they stopped selling Turkish olives because they can't carry Turkish products anymore because of global politics. But still, ya gotta go here, and when you do, get some weird food you've never tried, because you never know what your next favorite dish will be. read more

I have been coming to Good Food Market since I was in High School (down the street) and we would walk here literally. I loved the old owners. This was a mini mall and they had all kinds of different businesses on the second floor and a few on the 1st floor. Now that i'm married and gone, I still come here for my mom. This is her to go grocery store. Recently, she started complaining to me that they sell expired products, and I kept thinking its her imagination. Sure enough, I too experienced that. Additionally, some of their cashiers are rude. The guy cashier, (maybe the owner or manager) also rude. I mean, these people don't wish you a nice day. Don't smile at you. Here is what we buy: red caviar, herb covered cheese, my beloved (of course), figs and plums in honey, white peaches, apricots, and smoked salmon. We come home to the almost peace made between ourselves and the enemy. Today is a day to celebrate! I'm new to Pasadena, I love my little house in the hills, my orchard backyard and now a market to boot. I pick some fruit from my garden and for the first time in a long time, have a picnic in the grass. I kicked off my shoes and celebrated life in my garden. I thought about the things that have gone right, the music that we've made, the beautiful memories that life has granted me that no camera could ever photograph (like the thousands of hugs that I received from the orphans in Ecuador in this beautiful month of May). *I miss them more than a junky has ever missed the cure. Markets like this and picnics like these are cause to smile and take stock in what has gone right. I wanted to make baklava this holiday season so I came through here when I was in search of orange blossom water. Was so pleased with the variety of Middle Eastern products they have here. I was able to find kashkaval cheese, labne, moghrabee, hookah supplies, olives, and lots of other items. Oh, and the fillo dough in their freezer cases was way better than the Athens brand you can find in the regular grocery stores - it was much more delicate and the appropriate size to fill a typical baking try with cutting. I wasn't impressed with the bread they had - that was the only thing I didn't love about this shop but I'll be back for most of my other Middle Eastern needs. It's ugly but they do have halal food. In my experience the fruits and vegetables are ALWAYS wilted and soggy. Meat here is ALWAYS perfect. The few times I've gone, I bought bread, lebney, meat, and nuts. All excellent. They don't speak English well, but they are nice and try to help. The parking lot is for them only. If you try to go to Starbucks, the bank, or super cuts only, someone will come out and tell you you can't park there. It's a strange building because they also have a jewelry store and a hair salon and other businesses inside. Odd. Whatever. I love coming here for all my non-organic (certified) grocery shopping needs. The vegetables are always fresh and you can count on getting cilantro, ginger, garlic, and mint at this store all year around (needed for all my Indian cooking needs!) In season, they have a great collection of pomegranates and they are so much cheaper than in trader Joes (don't even think of going to Vons or Ralphs unless you want to pay way more for bad quality!) Sometimes the fruits look a little too ripe, so just make sure you are diligent when picking up individual pieces. They have a great selection of premade Armenian snacks. I always buy the cheese boregs...they are yummy for a small snack, just need to toast them in the toasted oven and you will be in heaven! Perfect amount of cheesiness and spice..It's my only refined flour comfort snack! They also have a nice meat counter. You pay separately at the meat counter for any purchases here. You can buy pre marinated ground lamb, though make sure you go early as they often run out of lamb in the evenings. This is my go to place for smaller stuff like tea biscuits, salt, etc. Don't buy the Indian spices here as they are way more expensive. Head to Cerritos instead. Credit cards are accepted for payments more than $10. Overall, friendly service, good selection of vegetables and other stuff make this my go to ethnic grocery store in Pasadena. read more

Great place to shop for middle eastern food. I love buying their kabob meat and the grape leaves they sell here that are pre packaged are great quality! I also really like the veggie and fruits they sell although they need to be eaten fairly quickly to avoid spoiling. They have a good selection of chocolates too! I love that that carry things you can't normally find at a supermarket! The only reason why I left out a star is because sometimes the older women here can be really rude. Not sure if it's racially motivated or not but I have had one women practically yell at me when I was ordering from the meat department. The name "The Good Food Market" had me thinking. Does this market sell healthy food? Organic produce? What is "good"??? Is their food even good??? I had to go see for myself. This Middle Eastern food selection is all pretty new to me, but boy was I excited! I headed straight to the bakery section and saw a decent sized selection of lavash, pita, pastries. I was in heaven. There were tons of yogurts and something called Labne. There is a deli in the back with a large selection of meats, cheeses, and OLIVES!!! I didn't touch the produce in the store though, but it seemed to be a good seller. The employees really know their products too. I ended up walking out with 1 lb of Lavash ($3) (I was told that the Cafe Paradise brand was the best), Byblos Lebani ($1.99), Jumbo Kamata Olives ($5.99/lb) (from deli), Large Kamata Olives ($3.99/lb) (Yes, large and jumbo taste different but I prefer Jumbo), Big Bean Salad, Lavash Chips ($3.49) (Sesame? It's party THYME!). I was extremely happy with my purchase. Everything tasted so good and fresh. The Lavash chips are excellent when dipped in the Lebani as recommended by the cashier That was a big hit in my household. read more

Prices are reasonable, I bought cherries $1.99 and Bulgarian Feta 3.99. They have at least three types of Feta and you can buy the exact amount you want.. I want to start by saying that I have shopped here for over 30 years because it's located conveniently close to my house. On 10/04 Tuesday I went there to make a specific purchase for the dinner I was going to cook. At 1;30pm (an hour and half later) I returned to the store out of pure frustration to let them know that the dough I purchased was stale and unusable. I approached the cashier on duty, Sona and I kindly told her that it was stale and that I wanted to return it and get a new one (as I still needed it for my dinner plans). Sona was extremely RUDE and unprofessional! She was not willing to even hear why I was there and she did not call the manager like i requested. She actually told me to come back tomorrow and didn't look my way. As I tried to express myself and she treated me with disrespect and she ignored me completely. I have to say it seemed that she hates working there. Over the years every time I go there so notice she doesn't greet anyone and she is always rude! She actually doesn't say thank you after her transactions are done either! She is supposed to be working in Customer Service!!!! Why is she even working there? I don't care about the few dollars the dough is worth, but I do care about the principal and the fact that SONA was so rude and unkind! I hope that Management can take some measures to improve the customer service. Good Food is going down fast and it's because of Sona / bad employees! I came here, late one night, for some serving dishes. Luckily, they had exactly what I was looking for. Though, their internet was down, for whatever reason, the transaction went rather smoothly. The store itself, is very clean, and well organized. It is stocked with fresh produce, meats, and a deli counter, that offers an abundance in variety. The communication between cashiers and, stockroom staff, however, is a bit sluggish. This makes for unnecessary waiting times. It seems as though, the cashier staff, knew more than stockroom staff. Amidst the unresponsive communication between the two, it seemed as if the cashier was getting a bit frustrated. That was kind of awkward, in a way. If you're not off-put by things like this, by all means, consider shopping here. Here are results of my last 3 visits: 1- After couple of months of boycotting the market, I stopped by today for some mortadela, I asked for Eurika with garlic ... I even had the lady behind the counter repeat it, & I did ask em to stack it, & not spread it or do any designs ... It was not stacked, & when got home, I found out it's without garlic. 2- At the meat counter, I asked for ground lamb for kabob, at home I discovered that it was just beef & not lamb (& they charged me for lamb too. 3- Went to deli, asked for some "Tomboy" ham, got a package, without thinking I placed it in my cart, & went to cashier, checked out ... Well, it was smoked Turkey instead 4- Wanted Pepsi, couldn't find it, asked the cashier, she pointed to a location, still couldn't find it, back to cashier, after a short wait, someone accompanied me to the area where I was shown & given Diet Coke!!!! I calmly said, "No, I want Pepsi" & she said that's soda, & soda is soda!!!! Whenever you complain, like I did AGAIN today, everyone starts pointing to someone else saying defensively that it was not them & it was someone else, & the best part is that they accuse & blame you for ordering wrong with a loud voice. I'd give it 5 stars, except that some of the shelf-stocking practices are a little un-professional (you can tell it's a small business, not part of a big chain). Sometimes there's stuff in the aisles, some of the stuff on the shelves is dusty, stuff like that. Nonetheless, I like this grocery a lot: they have interesting foods at good prices. I came in with a Groupon Deal. I did not care about produce, and had no idea what I was going to get or find. I was pleasantly surprised that it was full of imports. Imports from countries that I have never been or have no idea about: Turkey, Lithuania, Lebanon, Egypt, Russia, Cyprus, and Greece. I really enjoyed the exploring and trying out goods that I am not very familiar. At the end, I settled for: Rose petal Jam from Turkey, Sesame Pretzel lookalike from Lebanon (actually called Kaak Extra Fingers), Halloumi cheese from Cyprus, Mediterranean yogurt (which taste like Spanish yogurt), Turkish Delight from Turkey of course (which I discovered that I've had before and don't like), and a small slab of Hungarian Bacon. Had to grab it because I love bacon, and it reminded me of the time when I was in Hungary. I loved Hungarian Goulash (the paprika, onions, and beef chunks.) Other things that I wanted to try were products from Greece, but I couldn't read Greek. Some crackers from Russia, and bagel and crackers from Lithuania. They had other interesting stuff such as condensed cacao milk... I think that is what it was. They also had some cookies, crackers and chocolate from Italy, Austria/Germany.
