a hamburger and coleslaw on a plate

this place has come & gone more times than i care to remember. in it's heyday, it was the place to be. now, well.... after a long day at work with my hubby, we were trying to think of some place new to go, maybe haven't been to in a while. sitting at the red light on 88, there it was. jokingly, i said, what about the grove? next thing i knew we were pulling in. it was about 6 on a wednesday, & it was lit up, but not many cars. in we went. we walked into an empty room, except for 4 or 5 women cleaning up what they said was a lunch/meeting, & some guy. i'm guessing he was the owner as he told them all what to do. yes, they were open. they sat us. it's been a long time since we ate there. we looked over the menus. basic. apps, burgers, sandwiches. we ordered the fried green beans. yum. he got the fish sandwich. i got the the cowboy burger. he liked his fish. my burger was good. it was actually a little pink in the middle. (i asked for rare.) but, it had jalapenos on it. it had ALOT of them. like, i picked off a handful, & there were still more! it tasted alright going down. let's just say i paid for it all night long, & into the next morning! i would say, don't eat that burger unless you bathe in peppers! on a happier note, the wine was house, but was ok! the place is still dark & dreary. it still wasn't as clean as i would like. but, there are people who love the place. i don't know why. we ate, & left. it'll probably be another 10 years before we go back.

We went to the Linden Grove to hear a band called Totally 80's. (I highly recommend them). We went early to have dinner. The restaurant itself needs some major updating. There are stars in the ceiling. There are colorful lamps but some were burned out. There is a brass railing all around the dance floor. The entrance is awkward. It was pretty safe to say that we weren't expecting much from the food. We were a little surprised. I ordered a GodFather which is like a baked Italian Hoagie only it has fries and coleslaw on top. I removed the top bun because it was burnt around the edges a bit much for me. I actually tackled this sandwich with a fork and knife. It was huge. I ended up giving half to a friend of mine and I still felt like I had a mountain of sandwich in front of me. The coleslaw was good. The sandwich actually benefitted from the acidity. The deli meats were good and the fries were hand cut. I think I would have preferred it the sandwich had not been baked but that is my personal opinion. My husband had the fish dinner. It came with veggies and a choice of starch. The piece of fish almost covered half of the plate. It was broiled nicely. The fish was very flaky and tasty. The veggies were a bit mushy for my taste. I'm not a big rice fan so I didn't try it. As I said earlier, we were a bit surprised by the food-pleasantly thankfully.

Fun local spot for dancing to songs you love but hadn't gotten to dance to since Pittsburgh had an amazing dance club scene way back. DJ Tim plays favorite songs from the early 2000's shuffles to current hits like Bruno Mars. Saturday evenings, no cover charge, reasonably priced drinks. Can't wait to go back!

There were six of us for dinner and we all got food poisoning the next day. If you're going there, go for the music and not the food.

Made my first visit to The Village TapHouse on a Wednesday evening this past August. I love any…read morekind of Bingo, and I saw on Facebook they were holding their monthly Bar Bingo on this night. So, I made my way on over. The Village TapHouse is located in the South Hills Village Mall area, but a little up the road from the actual mall. It is tucked away in the rear of the building located on the corner of Washington Road and North Highland Road. The business that is visible from the main intersection is Clubhouse Cards. If you follow North Highland past this entrance off of Washington, The Village TapHouse will be on your right. There is some limited parking right in front of the entrance. However, since there are a lot of other businesses around here, you can find other parking across the street or before the actual entrance, regardless of which direction. I had no issue getting a spot right across the street, and making the short walk over. I arrived that evening around 7:00 PM, as that is when the Bingo was slated to start. There were a good amount of people attending the event, as the indoor main dining area was pretty much full when I arrived! No issue for me though, as I was by myself. So, I found a seat at the bar. There were several other patrons sitting at the bar, but it was not shoulder-to-shoulder or anything like that. There is also some patio seating, but I do not believe the Bingo was heard out in that area. Once situated, I went up to buy my Bingo cards from the two hosts. They were set up in the main dining room, but were using microphones. I had no issue hearing them all night long from the bar. It was $10 for a pack of 3 cards, and I purchased 2 packs. They also had daubers for sale, but I brought my own to use. I waited around for the games to start once I bought my cards, which ended up being around 7:30 PM. It was also Pajama-themed Bingo, which I was unaware of until I arrived. This allowed you for a special perk for one of the games. I am not sure if they always do this, but I would advise participating in whatever theme is advertised to get the most out of your experience. There were a few bartenders serving this evening. The lady who waited on me was prompt and friendly the whole night. I started off with a pint of FireWistle Red. It was a solid red beer, and served as a nice sipper for my evening. As the Bingo went on, I decided to put in a food order. I ordered a Half Dozen Wings in the Chicken and Waffles Wet Rub. I thought this was a unique flavor, so I wanted to give it a try. I enjoyed the taste of these! They were split wings, but overall the size was serviceable. The plate also had several pieces of celery and ranch dressing to accompany the wings. The food here was fairly priced. For my 6 wings and beer pint, the total was around $15. It seemed from the menu that the majority of entrees were $15 or under, which I believe is a great deal. Overall, no complaints in terms of prices or value. I ended up staying here for nearly three hours in order to finish the Bingo games. So, I had plenty of time to take in the atmosphere. I enjoyed the people, staff, and the overall vibe of the place. The patrons were friendly, and the staff seem to recognize their regulars while having meaningful conversation. Plus, the Bingo games brought some fun and entertainment to the night overall. This first visit of mine to The Village TapHouse was a positive one. Very much enjoyed the people, atmosphere, food, and fun Bingo activities. I cannot believe with how close I live to here that it took me this long to give it a try. Now I am happy to know there is a spot like this practically in my backyard. I have seen on Facebook that they also have Trivia Nights, so that is something I want to check out in the future. Even though I did not win Bingo this time, it will not stop me from coming back and trying again. I would recommend stopping here for a meal, or a fun night of entertainment, if you find yourself in the South Hills Village area of town.

I…read morelive closer to here now, and I have been coming more frequently over the past two years. It is a great local bar that has a solid flow of regulars located in South Park. There is ample amount of parking, as the old beer distributor building that was next door was recently demolished, and thus provides a lot more parking spaces for this business. I have never once had to wait for a table to dine here upon arrival. It does get busy at times, but even then I am always able to find a space either at a table or at the bar. They have various food and drink specials each day, but we almost always come on a Monday for the Wing Night. Wings are $1.30 each, and you can order them in whatever type of quantity you wish. They are not the largest wings I have had at a Wing Night, but they are not breaded and made-to-order. So, they take a little longer than other food items. However, they always come out hot and fresh. Some of our go-to sauces include the Sweet Teriyaki, the Garlic Parmesan, Honey BBQ, and Buffalo. Typically, we always get an appetizer as well. Have tried several of them over time, but we have been getting the Trio Platter lately. This visit, we went with the Zucchini Planks, Provolone Sticks, and Mini Tacos. It comes with three sauces, so we got Ranch, Santa Fe Ranch, and Marinara. The Zucchini Planks are smaller compared to most restaurants, but not bad. I like that the platter not only comes with the choice of the appetizers, but also the sauces. Another favorite of mine is the Grilled Cheese. This particular time, the cheese was not very melted and I was not asked if I wanted tomato or any additional toppings when I ordered. I usually am asked, and I usually enjoy this item. This might have been a one-off, but this particular time it was sub-par. The prices here are fair, for the most part. Depending on what you get, the value may not be there. Additionally, they charge extra for Ranch if ordering it with the wings. When we first started coming here, there was a bartender who always worked Mondays, and we loved her. She was friendly, always remembered us when we came in, and really took care of everyone. I do not believe she is with the bar anymore, and the staff seems to rotate on Mondays now. We have not had the same level of service with any of the new Monday staff. Not that it is necessarily terrible, but makes us miss the bartender who took such good care of us from prior visits. I would recommend stopping at Park Valley for a bite to eat or to hang out. The crowd is never too large, and everyone is friendly. Plus, it is a chance to support a locally owned and operated business.

Usually its like bacon and American cheese, guac, pico, etc., but these were just shades of white and green. I wish I could've finished them but the portion was quite a bit for 1 person. My only gripe would be the chicken. It reminded me of the meat you get in a launchable. I think I would rather prefer a crispy diced chicken. But that's just me. The other 2 didn't have any complaints about the Rival Stix or the burger. The Chicken Tenders were said to not have much flavor in the breading. The person who ordered them didn't care for the breading. I was also tempted into some sort of creme brulee donut I think.
