Spoonwood never disappoints when it comes to trying something new. My favorite beer of the day was the Sticky Toffee Coffee--rich, slightly sweet, and super unique without being too heavy. Definitely one I'd go back for. Food-wise, my go-to is the "Pretty Fly for a White Pie." It's consistently delicious. I do wish it had a bit more basil today to brighten it up, but honestly, still a solid pie. One of the best parts about coming here is sampling their rotating beers--there's always something new and interesting to try, which keeps me coming back. read more

Tucked away in Bethel Park, this place is perfect for sitting outside, grabbing a few drinks and some good eats. Stopped here while in the area, based off other reviews and we really liked it. Services was great, forgot to capture our two cocktails but we tried the spoonwood spritz and the pink pony (seasonal I think) and they were really tasty, not too strong and a good size. Food wise, the pizza was the star of the show. Tomato vodka sauce with some mozzarella hit the spot, plus the crust was light and airy but had that crunch and chew that made it perfect. On the other hand, the kickin chicken was dry and didn't have any distinct flavor to it. The slaw was ok but that's all you really tasted, the Sriracha dusting provided little flavor or spice and the mayo was hardly noticeable. Overall, definitely wanting to go back and try another more of their pizzas and a few drinks while the weather is nice enough to sit on their patio. read more

The chicken reminds me of crock pot chicken, bland, cooked in too much liquid, and tasted slightly old... The pizza was good, again the chicken was eh, but overall the flavors of this were good. NOT FAMILY FREINDLY. When seated we were given a 3 paragraph note about child behavior with out menus. It was not politely worded. My husband sat with 2 of our kids while I had the third in the bathroom so things were ordered before I saw the note. Our server was fantastic but other staff were not. Our kids were extremely well behaved without us telling them about the note. Other families received the same note with their menu. There are several signs around the patio with rules. This is the type of place I would go to relax and be myself. However, clearly relaxing is not their vibe. It was very stiff. I don't think I will return with or without kids. Also, the cocktail menu said most can be made as mocktails. As someone who does not drink alcohol I have seen this before. Often the Mocktail cost a dollar or two less. Not at spoonwood. Very disappointed. Waitress was wonderful, my issue is with pricing and management. We had 16 people and they attempted to squeeze us into a table fit for 8. There were many open tables around us. We moved to another table to eat our overpriced meal and were told we had to move. They sat 2 people at a table meant for 6. the table we were eating at. I spoke with management to no avail. I pointed out all of the empty tables. She insisted it was because they were trying to share the tipping for other waitresses because that's how they make a living. New favorite brunch spot, who dis? Spoonwood was one of those places I've been hearing about for a looooong time. Finally I dined here with a friend and yeah, I get the hype. My friend and I made reservations to be safe, but the day we visited there were plenty of open seats. Spoonwood has a bar, a large indoor dining area, and even a patio. (Here's to the folks who were still enjoying that patio when it was 90+ degrees out, by the way!) I had peeked at their menu before visiting since I like to narrow down my options to a few "top picks" before I go out. Well that effort was for nothing, because when I asked my friend what she recommends she pointed to the pizzas. I had been thinking of a breakfast sandwich or an omelette, so I got a pizza that was similar(ish?). Their "sticky sunrise" has bacon, sausage, eggs, maple syrup, and cheese. (Like I said: similar-ish!) It was absolutely amazing. The ingredients really came together nicely and they came atop one of the best pizza doughs I've ever had. And it was all still delicious when I reheated my leftovers the next day! I also enjoyed two drinks while at Spoonwood. I started with the "ballistic pickle" beer, because I love sour beers and I love the cucumber beer another brewery makes. This was absolutely delicious, and I especially appreciated this salty brew during this particularly hot summer. I then went in the opposite direction and ordered a "Pom mimosa" - a mimosa with pomegranate juice. I have to say, I liked this more than a regular mimosa. I hope it stays on the menu! It was a sweet and tasty way to wrap up the brunch date. Everything was a 10/10 and I am so glad I finally got to come here! I'd absolutely dine here again, or just stop in for drinks. Spoonwood is one of my most visited local businesses. I am a big fan of many of their beers, their collaborations with other local businesses to create them (example: my constant favorite here, Cold Drip City, is infused with a dark roast from Allegheny Coffee & Tea), and their wood-fired pizzas are reliably excellent. My favorite is Pretty Fly for a White Pie. With garlic oil, cherry tomatoes, basil and cheese, you just can't go wrong. I've had lots of other menu items including salads, soups and the falafel that are also consistently good; I'm a vegetarian but my family likes items from their smoker like baby back ribs. I like sitting on their outdoor patio, which they have screened in for the cooler weather. That's helpful in giving them more space, too. (Note that even during summer, the outdoor patio is not dog-friendly. There are occasional dog nights on another part of the lawn! Follow their socials to know when.) Recently we came on the weekend during brunch, which was a different experience. There is a specific brunch menu and that is all you can order from during that time. I tried a brunch pizza, since I'm a big fan of the pizzas here. It was able to be customized to my liking (holding the meat) but I found it just a little dry. My companion got a brunch burger that included an egg. I might try one of the sweeter brunch choices next time. The savory seemed like a better idea if I wanted to try some beers, which I did as there were new autumn ones on the menu. That's one of the best reasons to keep coming back, the constantly rotating beer selection. Get a flight of minis to try as many as possible. read more

Chef Boyardee pizza sauce on a pizza with bad basil and was it cooked in the pizza oven? It was worse than a take and bake, we just left it behind. Chèvre chicken sandwich with a half teaspoon of chèvre, not caramelized - caramelized onions, rubbery chicken. Even the pickle was bad! Aperol spritz missing Prosecco? Great ambiance. Good food. Mediocre beer I would love to LOVE this place. I mean. You walk into the building and there's a 'wow' factor. Big room, beautiful bar overlooking vats of beer, and an outdoor space ready to welcome in the sunshine and sounds of music. Ambiance: I sat at the bar. The food was good. I sat at the bar for about an hour. Typically, when I frequent establishments, I'm able to strike up conversation with fellow bar folk. This trip has been the exception to this rule. Every person at the bar was 'paired up'. It was like they all planned to meet each other at the bar top. Kind of strange. Food: I had a smash burger and fries. I mean look, I love a good smash burger. I kind of like a decent smash burger. It was good but not great. The fries left something to be desired. Beer: all beer tasted the same. Everything is very HOPPY. If that's what you're into, you won't be disappointed. But I like beer to be the beer you order and even the amber ale-traditional a malt style beer, was very hoppy. Not saying any of the hops are bad--it's just that when I order a beer without the hoppy flavor, that's what I expect. Overall, 7/10. Won't go back but won't tell others to not visit. read more

I've eaten here more times than I can count but this was my first time for brunch. And let me say, dang was it delicious! I met my girlfriends here on a Sunday. We got there right at 10 for opening and there were several people already there. The place continued to get busier as the morning went one. Everyone started with drinks. I had the Irish cream coffee, it was perfectly made and had quite the kick! I honestly couldn't make up my mind on what to eat but the veggie omelette had stout glazed onions in it and I couldn't resist. I've had them on pizza before and they are phenomenal so I knew it would be good. It also had roasted red peppers and feta cheese. It was so simple but one of the tastiest omelette's I've ever had. Others had the eggs Benedict, or avocado toast and eggs. Everyone loved their meals. They also had breakfast pizza, which I want to try next time. Oh and our server was just lovely. Spoonwood always does a nice job honoring veterans. Although we like the food here normally, vets get 15% off today in observance of Veterans Day. The discount was nice. Beers are good here and the food is excellent, especially the brunch. My only complaint is it's definitely pricey. The kids cheeseburger is $10 and adult meals are more. My friend I stopped here for a place to watch the football game in the neighborhood. We had a good experience at the front bar with the bartender and fellow patrons as well that made it a good time. However what turned us off is apparently there is a cornhole league here and this lady in the white hat was condescending from the moment she very rudely greeted us, apparently accidentally asked us if we were in the league and laughed for some reason. It was really uncalled for, she made it seem unwelcoming and a stuck up atmosphere so we just played it cool and pretended she wasn't there but certainly think you must be in some sort of clique to belong here as she continued to treat us in a smug way. Stopped today with a large group in between youth basketball games. The coach did call ahead, and they were able to accommodate about 30 of us with about an hour's notice. The wife & I split a pizza with peppered bacon/roasted red peppers & some potato wedges. Both were fantastic. One kid had chicken fritters, and the ither had cheese pizza. They were both happy & full! The potato wedges were seasoned perfectly & rater large. The pizza had fantastic sauce and doughy thin perf3ct crust. Others in the party got a steak salad (maybe the Pittsburgh salad?) & mac n' cheese that looked incredible. We will definitely be back, I want to dive into the beer selection & try out a burger and/or ribs. It felt immediately comfortable even though we had never been there. If you love screaming children, this is the restaurant for you. We have been there multiple times and there are always more young children, toddlers, and babies than there are adults. Tonight two parents allowed their child to scream at the top of its lungs throughout our entire meal. We had to leave early. The older gentleman seated behind us kept staring daggers at the parents that refused to keep their kid quiet. It was one of the worst experiences of our lives. We will never go back there. I went here with my best friend for brunch and our experience was super underwhelming. We came on a Sunday and it was pretty crowded (expected) It was super hard to get a parking spot in the crowded lot, people were genuinely fighting for spots. After eating inside- I can't imagine why. Our food took at least 50+ minutes to come out. The bartender was super sweet and friendly, the only reason I am giving it any stars. The food was cold, pretty bland, and overcooked. The bloody mary was sub par, the seasonal sangria was pretty good. We both had different styles of chicken and waffles and the chicken was dry and overcooked. I had gravy on my chicken and even the gravy was cold and dry. It almost felt like they made our food and then forgot where we were seated (at the bar) so they let our food sit in the back for 45 mins. We still had fun drinking but needless to say, we did not get to-go boxes and left our food behind. I ended up ordering the blueberry and asparagus full salad with salmon. It was actually very good- not worth $31 but still good. My husband ordered a burger and my daughter ordered a kids meal and an ice cream sandwich. Our bill for the 3 meals was $88!!!! And we didn't even order beer. Last night I visited Spoonwood with a group of coworkers. We timed it perfectly and arrived a few minutes after 5 and we were able to secure seating for twelve of us. This place fills up quickly. I tried for reservations a week prior to our dinner and was told by the manager and another person that they only take reservations for Sunday brunch. I've never had a bad meal at Spoonwood. Last night I was really torn as to what I should have. I know their pizzas are good, as are their burgers. I saw an enormous chicken sandwich being delivered to another table and really considered that as well. I struggled with what to do. I ended up ordering the PB&J burger. I saw that it came in Texas toast and I am not a fan, so I asked to swap out a brioche roll and they were happy to do so. The food came out quickly and the burger was awesome. I know a couple coworkers turned up their noses at the thought of a burger with bacon and peanut butter on it. I've had several before at other places and always enjoyed them. This version was unique in that it had onion straws and a jalapeño jelly. I really didn't get much of the jalapeño jelly flavor but I did get a little heat on the back hand. I normally don't enjoy some of the beers that Spoonwood brews, but I am a self declared beer snob. I was however pleasantly surprised with the three I tried last evening. We liked this place very much again last night. The big hits of the food we ordered were the burgers. The double cheeseburger was excellent, though more food than needed. The burger with peanut butter was very good as well. The short rib sandwich wasn't as good as the burgers. The sandwich seemed dry. The wings were a hit too. The beer was a challenge. I ordered the wit beer. But it had so many spices in it that I couldn't drink it--it burned my mouth. So I switched to a margarita, which was fine. read more
