This is the best store and the best staff ever!! They have everything you need as well things you didn't know you needed!! I buy everything there...dirt, compost, and other garden supplies & plants, dog food/treats/toys, fuel for my pellet stove, sun hats, Sauvie Island honey, coffee, snow shovels, snow melt, gift items, etc, etc, etc. Can't say enough wonderful things about the friendly, helpful, knowledgeable staff. Need Chicken or livestock feed? Feed Room has limited choices, and you need to write or remember what you are considering to check the price board above the Cash Register. Receipts are optional when you pay, then they will carry bags to your car. Be sure to check details before leaving. I'd add stars if their Web Site gave product info and prices so i didn't have to travel there then leave sorta disappointed at not getting what my terrdactyls really want. LOVE this store! It's a tiny little gem tucked away along Hwy 30 on the south end of Linnton. I'm happy to support local family owned businesses whenever possible. I've been purchasing bales of straw here for approx 5 yrs and the customer service has been EXCELLENT each and every time. The family dog greets customers as they come into the store. And in the spring they have baby chicks chirping away at the entrance (adorable!) Seems like every time I come here it's a different employee who helps me load up my bales of straw and every employee has been super nice and friendly. I wish they had a bigger selection of gardening stuff, because I would shop here more often. read more

I needed crimson clover for a cover crop and shipping online basically doubled my cost, so I asked on Nextdoor about possible local sources. I've passed Linnton Feed many times and never stopped. My neighbors were right on with this recommendation. They had what I needed, I could buy only what I needed, and the gal at the counter was very helpful and friendly. So, I'd stopped at the nearby pipe shop, and noticed the store. [I grew up in Chicago, and so I find Feed & Seed stores to be fascinating and exotic places!] I admit, I mostly went in to see if they had any baby chicks or ducklings, just because they are awfully cute! However, I was really impressed with the store itself. A nice mix of gardening, pet supplies and livestock food/equipment, very reasonably priced. The staff was friendly and helpful, despite the fact I was obviously just there to coo over baby chickens.... On my way to sauvie island I stopped by the feed store to buy some feed for my quails. The staff are laid back and was very helpful. They pointed me to the direction of the poultry food in bulk. It was sixty cents a pound. It seemed cheap to me! I bought three dollars worth. We also got a bale of hay for about nine dollars I think. I will definitely visit here again. They have ducklings right now and man, they are adorable! I was tempted to buy one! read more

Like so many feed and seed stores....Linnton Feed & Seed definitely has its own personality (ie: funky cool tapestry hung in the windows). It sells vegetable plants for the garden, turkey chicks? Hay, and even "Prison Blues" which are extra tough, well made jeans and jean jackets made by Oregon inmates in Pendleton, OR. Hardware for farm repairs, equipment to feed baby animals, shovels and rakes, rubber boots and with kid toys on hand to keep tots happy. On the way out to Sauvie Island, we passed this place which looks as tho' it's been there forever. It's on the only road heading out to Sauvie Island, right past the St. John's Bridge on your right. It's beige, nondescript, and has some chickens out front along with lots of bags of feed & some plants. Once inside, you'll swear it's the late 1960's again - there's that incense/essential oil/patchouli thing going on, which may cover the scent of livestock. I like the smell of livestock, but who am I? Anyway, great prices on chicken feed & straw which is what I need a lot of these days. Those d#*n chickens & ducks of ours are eating like crazy but as yet have not produced a single egg!! At least they are comfortable in their new straw, chowing down on some premium feed. I like the authenticity of this place, and I like how the man behind the counter hauled the items out to my car. It never even seemed to occur to him not to. I like that! It's not all 'urban farm chi-chi'. This is the real deal. If you have chickens, you need to go check this place out! read more

Why would I go to an Ace Hardware when I can support a locally owned feed store that's been open forever? Answer: I wouldn't. I started out as a patron as this place when I was a little girl (i'm talking like, five years old) with my dad, when he would give me quarters so I could get Reses Pieces out of the vintage candy dispenser. While stopped in traffic in front of the store I witnessed a car full of Hispanic males pull into the parking lot. Three men got out and proceeded to throw chickens from the store front container into their car. I wasn't able to count the exact number but they tossed in quite a few. A few seconds later they all piled into the car and took off. I went into the store to tell them what just happened and ended up having one of the best customer service experiences of my life. I left with a couple plants, some soil, and feeling a bit more knowledgeable on the world of plants. This place is amazing. The staff has to be some of the most knowledgable people in the PDX area when it comes to raising chickens, livestock, gardening ect. My wife and I stopped in there a couple months ago wanting to get some information on getting some chickens started at our new home. I cannot recall the young womans name but she literally answered every single question we could think of. I have called them maybe 3 separate times with questions ranging from chicken feed to goat breeding and every time they are there with the answers and a friendly attitude. I have never once gotten the impression that they were annoyed or had better things to do than educate me. Prices are decent and selection is decent as well for a non-chain feed store. read more

Ahh, Linnton. Not that much farther out than St. Johns (which feels like its own suburb) yet it is, literally, a whole different world than urbane Portland. The Feed 'n' Seed has everything the urban farmer could need-hardware supplies, tools, pet food, baby chicks, alfalfa hay, and cover crop seed in bulk. They even have "farm fresh eggs" $3/dozen. As they say, " location location location!" and the success of this mini-me granary is yet another testament to that little bit of breath-taking profundity. To wit: for countrified folk in the greater surrounding area, Linnton feed and seed is IT, the only game in town, whether it's feed and supplies for livestock, horses, dogs, home and gardening, . The locale of this little gem of a shop make its worth its weight in gold-embossed alfalfa, and don't think the owners don't know it!!! Was it Woody Allen that once quipped that 80% of success is simply showing up? Deeply ensconced w/in that bit of snarkiness, there is some bonafide truth. Could it be that success by our conventional, western standard, is the exception, rather than the rule---particularly for folks in business for themselves---- simply b/c so very few of us are willing/able to simply show up for the drudgery? I can't believe that it would be anything like a controversial statement, to here mention that a disturbing percentage, and ever growing number of folks in our me-me-me societ-me believe themselves too good to work? In the very least, most of "us" assuredly don't WANT to work, and the fabric of our ever-waning social resources is an unmistakable sign of this very thing, as more and more people join the swollen ranks of those permanently on the dole, and are very clearly teaching loved ones how they, too, can also participate This brings us, in a leisurely (not to say laconic) fashion back to our friends at the feed and seed. There are no convoluted formulations going on here, no killer, family recipes or incantations. There's Nothing too far-fetched, high-faltuin, or illegal or immoral (one presumes) involved in the "secret to their success". They offer needed goods at a highly convenient locale, and they are willing to show up day after day, be they ever so bored and un-challenged by the process. One might readily take note, I have nowhere said that bargain basement prices are any where in this formula, and indeed they are nowhere to be found @ Linnton feed and seed. You will pay significantly more for bales of hay, bags of grain, basic tack, etc etc, than at larger superstores, like out at Coastal, over in Oregon City. You pay for the time and the convenience, and most return customers rightly judge this is a worthwhile tradeoff. The thought of battling through traffic coming AND going (kill me now!) to Gateway or OC or any other such dealers for larger selections and significantly lower prices sometimes simply isnt' feasible logicistically.. People's time is valuable, it turns out! This ishow/why 7-11 can get away with their completely un-competitive prices on laundry detergent and coffee filters, etc. Thanks for being such an outstanding and yet mundane example of the American success story, Linnton F & S. You never stay open late or offer eye-popping sales, but you show up. You get 'er done, and above all, you keep on gettin' paid. So keep on keepin' on..! read more

Not kidding.I work by Coastal and have discovered that LF&S not only has a comparable selection(if not better) of crucial items..but everything is a considerable lower price Check it out..they have cheaper prices on items than even Lowe's or Home Depot. They carried all the rubber feed pans in various sizes, galvanized food bins & buckets, chicken supplies & fencing we were looking for! This is a store with great customer service. The employees are always willing to help look for items and they know their products. We buy organic feed and hay for our chickens. Linnton Feed and Seed also have plants during late winter, spring, and summer. They have some uncommon herbs which I enjoy. The staff are incredibly knowledgeable about gardening, raising chickens, and the feeds they have. Last summer Lintton Feed and Seed had stinging nettles and I thought about buying the plant. The cashier told me he uses stinging nettles for tea. Well that did it, I bought the plant being careful not to touch it of course! When we buy our chicken feed, we tell the cashier what we want, the cashier says she/he will meet us at our car and they bring the feed and load it up. Great customer service! So convenient especially when I'm tired after leaving work. My work has recently changed to the West side and it will be more inconvenient for me to go to Linnton Feed and Seed but I will go out of my way for this store. It's important for me to support local stores with good customer service. We recently had a bad experience in Scappose, All About Pets, in getting our chicken feed and will never go to All About Pets even though it is only 15 minutes away from where we live. read more

Ok WAS my favorite place for the 3 years I have lived here, until today. Alissa who always helps me find what I need and gives me advice has quit and found a new job. Then strike 2 I was getting dog food and was on my 12th bag should be getting g a free one this time she Looks for my card and it wasn't where it should be she actually looked at me and said do you really want me to go through all these cards?! I'm like yeah, hello isn't that why she is here?? the woman "helping" me says it's not here sorry. I will NEVER step foot in this store again. She was absolutely rude and inconvenienced!! PLEASE TELL ME THIS WOMAN IS NOT THE OWNER . My boyfriend when in a couple days ago and talk to one of the regular employees and he found my card we bought a bag of food and got a free bag of food. My earliest memories of Linnton feed and seed are maybe 5 years old which would have been maybe 1951 or so? when a visit on Saturdays to the Hardware store was almost as exciting as the circus? A Hardware store to me was a fascinating place? with the smell of feed and Hay, Bolts, nuts nails and a creaky floor! And the best day was when the baby chicks had arrived and we bought 100 of them and took them home to be future fryers and a lucky few to be laying Hens! I remember they were White leghorns but one lucky chick turned out to be a Rhode Island Red Rooster which I raised myself, His fate eventually was chicken n' dumplins a few years later? Anyway back to the Hardware store. At that time the proprietor was a man simply named old Frank who was 50'ish who walked with a limp? I remember being told was a injury from the great war [WW1] ? However I do not know this for sure but it adds a mystique to a child's impression of a visit to the Hardware store on Saturdays? What a nice little country feed store! I love to come in and get our dog cookies here, the bulk price can't be beat. The kids know this place as the baby chicken store because, well they always seem to have baby chicks lol. Kids love this. It's fun to see the chickens down in the yard too and pet goats when they're there. Picking up seasonal veggie starts, flowers and herbs is nice and they always seem to be good quality. Always genuinely nice people working ready and willing to help you out if you need it. read more
