I ordered the wrong product without the understanding of the installation difference in marmoleum tiles. The young kid working there showed me what I did ask for but it would have been helpful to explain differences between click and lock and just tiles. I tried explaining this to Mike only to be yelled at. I did not know there was a difference in application and would have done more homework with the correct information from flooring people. That's on me as I explained this to Mike as I took ownership of ordering in incorrect product. Mike was not helpful at all when I called asking about return policy so I could get the correct product ordered. Mike was rude even after I owned up to ordering the wrong flooring as I thought what was ordered was what was needed. He complained about having to the rep. Boo hoo that he had to make a call. He was yelling at me and was not hearing me at all. I would never go back to this company based on this individual's demeanor and phone etiquette. He is not a person I ever want to work with again as not sure how they are still in business after my experience. He should NEVER be working in customer service because he does not know the meaning of it. Shame on him for treating me with such disrespect as a customer. I never raised my voice or yelled at this individual but he is simply a bully and needs to understand the meaning of customer service and how you should speak to people. He doesn't. The two salespersons I spoke with seemed only marginally interested in retail customers. I asked for a sample of a particular pattern and was told they didn't have any. I looked in the pile below the catalog book and found a sample. They recommended only one installer who wanted $450 to install a sheet vinyl floor. I received three other bids of $300 for the same work. read more

I have never had such a horrible experience and service in a showroom. I was looking at a specific flooring for several minutes and no one offered help - as they usually do in these places and did in every other place I visited that day. I asked the young man at the counter if they had a flooring "comparable to fir" as I just wanted to see how it might look. He just apathetically waved across the store and said "you can look and see if you see anything." I asked again "can you point me to something that looks like fir." He again told me I could look around - zero attempt to help. So I asked if he knew what fir was. The apparent owner then started yelling at me (why didn't he make an attempt to help?). I have never had someone be so awful when I was just asking for help. This owner is a horrible nasty person. Stay away from this place and buy flooring elsewhere. read more

I sadly found myself in the market for linoleum recently. A place called Linoleum City seemed the logical solution. I was not enthused, but the 10+ year old CARPET in our bathroom was finally just too gross to continue to walk on in bare feet, and the tile project that I have envisioned is still a financial hurdle or twelve away, so we needed a stop gap solution that would be easy to install and equally easy to rip out when we were ready to build Danni's Dream Bathroom. We worked with Suzie, who introduced us to the concept of a "floating" vinyl floor. She seemed to understand exactly what we needed and why, and her suggestions were helpful and her knowledge of her products solid. Once we got our linoleum purchase squared away, we also picked up a floating cork floor for much less money than we found elsewhere for the exact same product. Service was great, selection was solid, and pricing was just what we hoped we would find. I would certainly come back here if in a similar situation. read more

We recently purchased tile from Linoleum City for our kitchen floor. We found exactly what we were looking for, however we had really spotty service. We were concerned about the tile getting scratched (we have a very active/crazy cat), and when I visited the store specifically to ask about this concern, the person I spoke with said, "Well... they're commercial tiles, the kind they put in supermarkets, so..." Okiedokie... When we were ready to order we worked with a different employee who reassured us that the tiles shouldn't scratch (although it took asking several times), and (based on accurate square footage measurements), they estimated how many tiles and how much adhesive we'd need, and we placed our order. Tiles didn't take long to receive, woo hoo! Fast forward to installation day, and find us extremely stressed out because it's becoming clear that we don't have enough tiles OR adhesive. All in all, we needed 3x more adhesive than the salesperson suggested and ended up with, count 'em, TWO tiles left over - a margin of error I'm sure any DIYer understands is too close for comfort. This place is great for remnant carpet pieces, carpet underlay and remnant flooring deals, but I didn't get the chance to use them for my large job. I was going to buy my marmoleum flooring from these guys, even booked up their install guy. I had picked out a few samples of what I liked with Suzy and showed her my top two. I asked if they had them both in stock or if they would need ordering and she said without looking that they had everything in stock. Fast forward two days later when it came time to order the product we wanted and SHOCK, they didn't have it in stock. I asked Suzy if it had been sold between now and two days ago when I asked if it was in stock and she said it must have (again without looking at any records). She said it would cost an extra $300 to have it special ordered now. Bollocks to that! I told Suzy I was going to call around and do some more shopping. My kitchen and bathroom is a large space and the amount of product I needed was nothing to scoff at. I guess they just don't care about staying competitive or keeping business. And that's their prerogative. I called my install guy and asked him what my options were because it wasn't in my budget to pay for extras. He recommended Floor Factors, so I called them and they had it in stock and for less than LC's in stock price. I paid over the phone and my guy picked it up and installed as scheduled. It looks amazing! I do still come to this place from time to time whenever I need remnants or carpet underlay, you can't find a better deal locally that I have found. I recently bought 15' of carpet cushion underlay for $29 and it's near $100 anywhere else such as Home Depot. read more

I explained to the person answering the phone that I'm not able to come in readily due to work but would like to get an sense or at least an idea of where to start since this would be my first home improvement project and the person's exact words are: "If you can't find the time to come in then it is a waste of time for us." Highly recommend - had the best experience working with Mike at Linoleum City! He helped us find the best carpet for our needs and budget, let us take home sample boards to see how things looked in different light, and even came out personally to measure on the Sunday of a holiday weekend! The two-person install crew (led by Oscar) was phenomenal and stayed late each day to cut our three-day job into two days due to the upcoming winter storm. I happened to be in the store on 05/08/21 when this incident (Kimberly) took place. I heard a conversation start to elevate in volume and at first I thought the parties involved were acquainted. Then things got really heated. Indecipherable back and forth yelling and screaming. I was not far from the front door and as Kimberly and Mike (manager) were approaching. "F" bombs were flying and mutual cursing. Mike told Kimberly to leave the store. It was bizarre. Afterwards Mike helped me find what I needed, no problems. I think Kimberly was not having a good day judging from her post and was ready to blow up. I asked Mike what happened and as Kimberly stated, she was asking the young man ( whom Mike said was a new employee) questions and was just not happy with his responses. Hire someone who knows how to provide excellent customer service! Emblematic of why these types of places are giving way to Home Depot, I called and asked some questions and was not treated like a welcome customer. I thought if I went in person I might have more luck. Unfortunately, since I'm not an interior designer and have never purchased flooring before, I needed assistance. I was treated like a spouse in a bad marriage. Two word answers and vague pointing was the most I got. This place is probably great for people who know exactly what they want and know something about flooring, but if you need some guidance, this is not your spot. The only thing worse than chain stores is independent stores doing everything they can to drive customers to chain stores. read more

When I purchased marmoleum from this store I simply brought in the dimensions of the rooms I was using it for and they calculated the amount I needed. When I was done laying the floors I had a 9 ft x6.7 ft piece of unused marmoleum. I attempted to return this but was told it was not in adequate condition due to one end having one crack in it. They miscalculated the amount I needed and then refused to work with me to take the excess back. I would never use this store again and suggest you triple check their measurements, as they may be inaccurate. read more

I've worked with Linoleum City for almost 3 years as a Project Coordinator at a Property Management Company. Absolutely THE BEST at everything. I work with multiple vendors daily as we have a large portfolio and I've never had a better experience with customer service, product and installs as I have with Linoleum City. When I started in this industry, I had little to no clue about flooring; what to order, how to measure and order it and so on. Mike Worley is the best Rep becuase he guided me through to show me the flooring ropes! Mike has never missed a deadline, have always been very communicative and is very flexible when it comes to readjusting an order, as needed. I've been renovation a home that was built in the early 90's on the West Slope. I drive past Home Depot on the way to Linoleum City every time I go to purchase flooring supplies. The reason why is that the folks at Lino City are helpful, educated, well versed in their trade, affordable with a huge selection. I have purchased carpet, linoleum, area rugs and next will be tile for my laundry room upgrade. I've been seeing the same staff the entire time over the last seven years. What a rude person (I think he was the owner)! I am not surprised by the other reviews here. I am trying to finish the kitchen in what soon will be a rental, though I'm going to be living here a while until my ADU is done. Linoleum City was the fourth stop on my tour of the flooring stores of Portland today. I've bought marmoleum remnants there before and all went well. Today, I had a really terrible experience. This guy started by scorning me for only having total square footage not dimensions. When I asked for some kind of ballpark on marmoleum installation, he first told me that he "could not give me any ballpark", then when pressed he said it could be $3 a square foot, could be $12 a square foot (um... what? come on, dude). Meanwhile the other three stores had given me a ballpark and thought it was just fine that I only had total area. I tried to salvage the interaction by asking about other natural options. He again scorned me for thinking bamboo might work. When I finally said "OK, why don't you show me the vinyl plank," and asked about price differences between brands... he practically spit on me and said "price does not matter. You like what you like. So take a look," then waved his arms towards the vinyl plank. I finally walked out, which I should have done 10 minutes earlier. I'm sorry for the people who work there, it must be miserable if he is in fact the owner. (BTW-I am not from SF, not sure what's up with the Yelp profile...) read more

While I admit linoleum city has a great selection of Marmoleum in stock, and their prices are almost as low as other retailers, I cannot recommend their service. I have installed a dozen or so small, one sheet Marmoleum applications such as bathrooms and kitchens over the years, and feel pretty comfortable working with this product and recommend it. I was now ready to try a large multi sheet seamed job in a studio I own, 4 hours away. This is where the trouble began. after I cut the first section off, I found the roll was 2.5 inches short. I called and he said they'd replace the piece I needed, but wouldn't meet me halfway, so that would have meant an 8 hour drive and about $150 in gas to fix his mistake. I took careful measurements and determined I could just barely get away with using the short piece, if I used thicker baseboards and added base shoe. This saved me the drive, and kept the project from being a week behind schedule, as I can only work on the weekends. I then discovered my scribing tool was missing, I called again, and the same salesperson assured me welding Marmoleum was easy, the tools readily available to rent, and so to stay on schedule, I followed his advice and laid the Marmoleum down without scribing and undercutting the seams. Upon my return to Portland, I started calling around to rental companies, none of which had one. Finally I found one at a commercial floor installation supplier, but as I'm not a licenced floor installer, I'd have to rent it through a flooring retailer. I called Linoleum City and the same guy claimed he called, and they didn't rent anything there. SO, I tried to ask him if he thought any of his installers would rent their kit to me for the weekend, but his head gasket totally failed: He started screaming at me and wouldn't let me get a word in, became super defensive and hostile. When I finally was allowed to speak, I said look, I'm just trying to solve a problem and get this job done, and the truth is I'm in this predicament as a result of taking your advice, I'm not asking for reparations, just a little help figuring out how to make the best of it. He screamed at me a bit more, and hung up Now, I acknowledge my role in screwing this up, if I hadn't misplaced my tools, none of this would have happened. I approached this with my hat suitably in my hand. There is no excuse for his behavior, I can't ever recollect being treated so abysmally in a retail setting. He claimed to be the owner, so here I am warning you online, because if there's no one to take responsibility for his lack of accountability, you should just stay away from this place. I went from there to Interstate Flooring where my problem was sorted in about 10 minutes, the tool rented, and I was on my way. I also discovered the same Marmoleum product would have cost me about 2 bucks less per yard. read more
