I was really looking forward to visiting Lips but overall it was just an average experience. The location is older and really needs a facelift. We were seated fairly quickly and all seats have a decent view of the stage area. The cast of the show were also the wait staff. Obviously wait staff duties were not in their wheelhouse... most of the ladies clearly didn't enjoy that part of their job and it was clear in their body language and approach. The drinks were truly bottomless, the food seemed to be freshly made but the selections were not very exciting. The show itself was just ok. The MC was really funny and did take the time to crack jokes, interact with the audience, etc. but overall the show was low energy... beautiful drag queens, in lovely dresses lip syncing. Very little dancing. Queens didn't really seem connected to the audience. It's their job, yes, but it's a show so it really shouldn't come across as a chore. Still love drag shows but probably would choose to go to a different place in the future. read more

This review is for Gospel Sunday Brunch. Good drag times. I've always wanted to go to Lips Gospel Brunch, but something has always come up. I feel it's best to go with a group, especially with folks who understand how to have a good time in this venue. I appreciate this art form, so I brought plenty of dollars and had my share of the bottomless mimosas to cheer each performer as zestfully as I possibly could. GOING IN- my neighbors and their friends let me tag along; it's best to make reservations early....and they charge you the number in your group reservation, I was told, that is you reserve for 6, you show up with 4, you pay for 6-however that works- so you may want to ask about that policy in advance --this performance, two groups with missing guests got a lucky bonus--- the host impromptu called each of their MIA compadres and tongue lashed them over cell phone speakers in front of the entire crowd. Classic. As you are escorted to your table, You grab a drink as you pass the bar ---a premade bloody Mary, champagne flute, or a mimosa sitting in an open cooler, tip jar sitting there. We had a pretty good table, it was 8 of us, it was a semicircle booth on the back wall almost in direct view of the stage. We were in a great place where each performer passes directly by when they make their round off the stage. ORDERING AND EATING- I wish I had taken pictures, but the mimosas had gotten the best of me after a long wait to order and for the food to arrive. We had arrived early, so our wait to order was probably longer because of that....but more mimosas for us, lol! You know, the entertainers are your servers so they are rushing around refilling drinks/taking orders/fielding complaints/costume changes/etc. The menu was one page and had a good selection and variety. It was a bit premium priced but its a dinner show, of course. I ordered the Lips chicken salad ---chicken salad sitting on a bed of greens and veges. It was so good...... especially if you like apples and cranberries in your chicken salad. It came with 4 pita bread quarters...... Next time, I'll ask for more pita bread up front, it wasn't nearly enough to finish the huge dollop of very chunky very tasty chicken salad. At my table i saw steak, shrimp, Caesar salads and a few other entrees at my table---its all a blur---all being inhaled by my equally tipsy friends---we did had a designated driver, it wasn't me for once...lol. They also don't separate the bill, so be prepared for that. We happened to have a gracious person in our group who took care of the check, who wouldn't let us pay him back. Halleh--LUUUURRR--yah. LOL! THE SHOW - being Sunday Gospel Brunch, the performers were rather tame, from descriptions of other apparently raunchy shows. The songs today were either Gospel, praise or just inspirational, all very high energy. I loved when, this show, the host did a signature piece to Michael Jackson's "Man in the Mirror", changing into a boy by the end of the song....fascinating and touching. The entire show was highly entertaining. Between sets they still somehow serve and waitress with a smile, maybe some tough love if you make what they feel is a silly request, but what do you expect? Lol. Years ago, I had a boss who always dragged us (no pun intended) every birthday to Madams, so this was a pleasant reminder of how hard these ladies work their craft-----and that flawless makeup. Went here for the Sunday brunch not knowing what to expect. They have all you can drink mimosas, champagne and bloody Mary's. I wouldn't say the food is great but you're not there for the food. The place looks a little dingy and outdated with all the tables cramped together and gaudy decor. The host of the show was hilarious and really the best part of the show. Each performer came out and "sang" a song while walking around collecting tips. (Bring singles for tipping!) I gotta say some performers really stuck out with their energy and dancing. I've just come back to Miami from a birthday celebration at Lips. Drag Gospel brunch was...well, drag...gospel...and brunch. With free-flowing booze (It is Ft Lauderdale, afterall) and a serviceable menu, we were well 'brunched'. Carl C's review provides so much wonderful detail, that I'll just second his here, and add a few thoughts. The show was also better than I expected. Each performer has her own style, with something for everyone. The last few numbers were knockouts. Yes, it may have been the aforementioned free-flowing booze, but I actually teared up during one number toward the end. (I won't describe it as not to ruin the surprise for you.) We went with a group of 12, and, while I didn't really get to 'bond' with folks at the other end of the long table, the mood of the room was very friendly, due in great part to the performers/servers working the room. I did notice one table of two 'boys', who seemed a bit out of place. (One was enamored with his cellphone the entire time. His date seemed so lonely. Cute, but lonely. It made me wonder if this is not the type of place to bring a date.) My advice 'Go' and go in a group to ensure that you have at least one table mate who isn't a complete and total drag. read more

So I have never been to a drag show. When you walk in the door, Lips looks like a cross between an old cheesy strip club and the place the Bird Cage was filmed at. Its everything you would expect, lots a good looking men in heels, crazy mix crowd of people (gay/straight/young/old), and tons of glitter and fruity drinks. Do not come here if you can't take a joke or if you take yourself too seriously. This is a very R rated but light hearted group of people so if you are not open minded then don't bother spending your money. Ok so for the food and the show. I went with a group of 5 for a birthday party. Everyone had a blast. This isn't the type of thing you do all the time its more for special occasions or birthdays and can get a little expensive. For an extra $10 they give the special person of the group a crown and a special dessert then they make them come up to the front of the stage for a picture. The Food So other people have mentioned the food is a bit pricy, and it is but you do get a show included with dinner so it makes sense. Definitely bring a lot of dollar bills because the ladies will come table to table looking for tips. We tried the Calamari to start (Desiree Dubois) and it was actually very good and fresh. The size of the calamari rings were big and perfectly fried we really enjoyed it. As for dinner we tried 3 things off the menu, the Brenda Starr which was a pork tenderloin in a madeira wine sauce with wild mushroom risotto (very good), the Gina Roberts which was shrimp francaise jumbo shrimp, white wine and lemon butter sauce with spinach and rice (very good) and the Charlize Angel which was grilled chicken with a sundried tomato and roated garlic tapenade with wild mushroom risotto. I posted pictures of all the food. Everything was very good, not 5 star but worth the price of the meal and the show. Without the show it would be a bit over priced. The show It is a bit cheesy and mostly old school music like Cher and Tina Turner but what do you expect from a lip synced drag show. It is funny and entertaining and like I mentioned worth it for a special occasion when you are looking for something fun and interesting and out of the ordinary to do. As a long time patron of Lips (and local), I have always enjoyed this establishment, the ladies of lips, and the show. The performers, who are also your waitstaff are wonderful. Consistently. I often go on Sundays for Gospel Brunch (as I did today) and get wonderful bar service from Marvin, who is friendly, attentive, and engages in conversation. The finale from Nicholete, is always a crowd pleaser. I bring many out of town guests and they are always impressed. My biggest complaint is the elderly man (name unknown) who takes phone reservations and 'seats you' meaning telling your table number. I have called before to add one person to the reservation, to get a rude tone and attitude that they are full. Yet, when I call the next day, a lovely young lady (name unknown) who will put me on hold, and make it work. The elderly man at the front booth has also yelled at my mother, who was there to see a show, as she was walking around getting pictures before the show. Apparently, she was "disruptive." Really? She is 64. I have been hung up on by this employee, and when I check in, feel totally unwelcome! Rude, nasty, and no personality. Always the worst way to be introduced to to the establishment. Today was no exception. He is the reason for the 3 stars, as opposed to 5. I would love to see Lips Fort Lauderdale do special shows, Christmas, Valentines, so on, like the original in San Diego. FTL has the same shows every week, each night. Nothing ever changes. Be advised if you are celebrating anything, there is a $10 charge - and this is NOT advertised, nor told to you by your server. It's an extra shock when the bill comes. In all, Lips is a good time, but it's time to evolve, get rid of bad employees, celebrate the good ones, have special shows, and be more transparent about hidden charges. I went here as part of a set of restaurant reviews I did for "Check Please! South Florida." The show was alright, although the quality of the performers varied WIDELY. But the food was just plain mediocre. It seemed to me that it was all out of the freezer section of Costco. I think there are better dinner shows to be had, so unless you really are jonesing for the "Birdcage" atmosphere, but even more over-the-top, or on the first stop of a bachelorette party, I'd skip this. I had been to the Lips in New York, so when I learned that there was a Lips in Fort Lauderdale, I knew immediately that was going to be my birthday kick off starting point. We made a reservation for 8 for the first show (I recommend making a reservation a few days before) and had a fabulously huge booth table in the back. Our sassy, waitress was sure to play with everyone at the table - especially ordering drinks called "Blow Jobs" and "Buttery Nipples" :) We had a mixed bag of people at the table of all ages and our waitress knew how to work all of us. Our cheeks hurt from laughing so hard!!! Drinks are good - a bit on the weak side. The food was surprisingly decent - but we aren't going to Lips for the food and drink, now are we? The attitude of all the servers was just awesome - it was a great vibe and a great show. The last number was a spoof off an Anita Baker song that we are all still singing. I'll keep this review brief. My wife, myself and a friend were looking for something different to do on a friday night.... this was very different. I have been to some great drag shows around the world (Madame JO JO's in London). This wasn't one of them. It was ok, but far from great. The place is dated. Very dated. It feels like it used to be a strip club. The food was one notch up from catered wedding food. Better than your average diner, but nothing to write home about. It felt very Marriott/corporate quality. The entertainers were very friendly, often funny, and one of the few redeeming qualities about the place. There were specialty drinks abound - they were expensive and fruity and heavily pushed by the staff - go figure. LOL. Overall, I had a halfway decent meal and was moderately entertained. Would I go back again? No. Would I recommend it to a friend? Probably not. Would I tell someone not to go? Tough one. Overall it was entertaining enough that I won't tell you not to go, but I wouldn't go out of my way to recommend it either. read more

I don't think I'll be going back. Not only were the drag queens rude but they also weren't very entertaining. They also gave preference to the older generation than our bachelorette crew. As for rude, our waitress flat out exclaimed "no split checks and only one card or cash" with no assistance. She could've warned us or they can put up a sign. She also was not at all friendly. A smile might be nice! Then at the end, I was literally shoved off stage by Missy as I was attempting to help the bride get a photo but she decided then it was time for curtain call. If you're looking for a good time, look no further! Lips is where the party is at...even for a Mother's Day gospel brunch! They were "cross dressing for Christ"! The place is gaudy, but in the best possible way. Disco balls, glitter, bright colors, and a 1970s nightclub feel transports you to another world inside Lips. Your orders are taken by gorgeous drag queens which makes up for the crappy cruise ship/banquet food that is served...bottomless mimosas helps too. Then...the show begins! Woohoo girl, get ready! So I've been meaning to write a review for this place but I've been soo busy! So to start I made a reservation for 10 girls including me to celebrate my 30th birthday! As we all arrived we walked in and the hostess greeted us! Very nice. We were escorted to our table which was pretty much right in the middle of the stage! We were excited! Now for the decor of the place! Absolutely breathtaking, colorful, beautiful lighting, just pretty much a girls dream space! We were greeted by our server and our drink orders were taken. Drinks came very fast. Next we placed our meal orders, they had seafood, to pasta, and steak. A lot of choices. We all started with a Caesar salad, which was very tasty! Then our meals came, I had to try my girlfriends meals, I got chicken, a girlfriend got the mushroom ravioli, one got shrimp scampi another steak and so on. All were amazing!! The came the show! I have never laughed sooo much in my life!!! It was epic!! All the girls had a great time!! Every performance was amazing! Towards the end of your celebrating anything your brought up on stage for a cheap price of $10. You take a picture and they frame it for you and bring it to you at the end! I really love this place. The entertainers are also the servers & the service is impeccable! Not to mention that they all look after you. The food is also very good. I've been to a few other dinner shows from all over and although the entertainment is good, the food tends to leave something to be desired. Not here! Everything is tasty. The drinks here are also something worth mentioning. The frozen drinks are stronger than they appear and will creep up on you. They had a $5 cosmo special when I visited and after only 2 I was feeling great. I visited on their bitchy bingo night. Misty eyes and Twat (their stage names) are hilarious and all the performers really entertain. Twat had one performance where she did about 5 or 6 wardrobe changes one after the other! We came here for Wednesday's Bitchy Bingo and HAD A BLAST. Twat, our server, is a f*cking gem. For the longest time, I would wake up and drive by this place called Lips and wonder what is this place. I also wonder why I was so drawn to look at the place. Then one fateful day I had found out from my parents that Lips was a restaurant with a drag show and right then and there I knew I was celebrating my 24th birthday here. Organizing big groups at Lips is a pain in the butt if you have non-committal friends. In this day and age, it is hard to find people who say yes and stand by a yes. I am digressing, but the long story short is that this place will charge the party as if a no-show was actually present. Another qualm about the place is they only accept one credit card per table, so they told us. With that said on to the food. My party and I had a set menu and everything from the appetizer to the dessert was just mediocre. Nothing bad, but nothing great. I had Caesar Salad and chicken dish and it only gets marks above mediocre only if it were made by a significant other and they were pinching me really hard. I have been to another place like this in SF, so I fee compelled to compare the two shows. The show put on by Lips is wonderful. They are fun entertainers and are very very funny. They like to play with the crowd, so make sure you are not texting your mom while they perform like I did and do not admit to texting your mom like I did; they will have a field day. The girls at Asia SF make you question if they were ever a man. Here at Lips, it is a bit obvious, but that is fine because they entertain with the best of them. It is quite the experience and definitely worth the price for the first time. Lips is your place if you are looking for something lets say..... different. P.S. About time I got myself here to see what the hype was all about.... The whole experience was underwhelming. At first, it seems promising as you enter the front door and notice all the campy decor, which was extra campy due to all the holiday decorations. I thought the campier, the better! Even when I ordered a beer from the bar, the server was very witty and charming, and so were all the other employees! They really know how to turn up the notch a bit if you know what I mean. So, of course, I thought this does indeed sound promising. All the elements were in place to what I thought was going to be a captivating and raucous show. On a side note, I wish I had known prior to coming here that you need to endure a good hour and a half of waiting before the show begins. In fact the show starts after they begin clearing the tables. Through all this you sit through loud, throbbing music making it difficult to talk to those around you. The food arrived, and I was pleasantly surprised by what I ordered: Chicken Roulade; chicken breast stuffed with spinach, ricotta cheese, and mozarella in a marsala mushroom wine sauce with mashed potatoes and vegetables. It was a home run, but at the same time this should be expected with the prices that have to be paid here. So, gold star on that note! Now, the show. It started out great with some great stand-up by the host, DIVA, the MC of that night's show - Retro Superstar Sundays. That said, with just that title alone, I should've known better. Barbra Streisand, Judy Garland, etc. That's not my thing. It felt dated to me, but I suppose that's due to the thematic nature of this particular show. I would've preferred something more contemporary, something more current. Needless to say, I was at moments bored looking forward to the interludes with DIVA interacting with the crowd. Those were in my mind highlights. I laughed out loud more than a few times! Yes, indeed I did, and quite boisterously too! Ha! The show was good, the performers enthusiastic, though (unlike a strip show) they won't interact with you personally no matter how much you tip them. Performers are also the servers. Food was O.K. but nothing special, about what you'd expect. Menu of about 12 items, all the same price, $21.95. That includes all-you-can-drink bloody marys, mimosas, or champagne, and the performers go around with pitchers to refill your glasses, like it was coffee. You are required to buy a meal. They also had cocktails (actually shots) such as Screaming Orgasm, Blow Job, Kick the Bitch to the Curb, and Buttery Tittie Twister. These were all a bunch of different, unrelated liquors thrown in a glass. $10 each. We tried two and were not impressed. Those are very small drinks. For an extra $10, anyone with a "special event", usually birthdays, is given a cardboard crown, and at the end of the show she - somehow it was all women - got to go up on the little stage with some performers, get a piece of cake with a little candle on it, and her picture taken, which is printed in a few minutes and given to you in a card-like frame before you leave. The photographer, when I asked, said he would email the picture, but it never arrived. More women than men in the audience, including some who had been here before. Parking is a problem. Valet parking was free, but even to get to the valet parking station was a line, and to get into the line you had to turn into the street next door, turn around and take your place at the end of the line. (Cars would have been lined up out onto Oakland Park Avenue if they didn't do this.) For the small lot in front there was a $5 charge until it filled up, which we paid so we could just get in our car and leave, and wouldn't have to wait through another line to retrieve our car. Bottom line is we enjoyed it and would recommend it, but expect (as we did) to spend $50/person, including the show, meal, and drinks. read more

Went to Lips for Sunday Brunch with the "Inappropriates" - that's me, my sister and cousin and My sisters BF. Decor is Gaufdy and over the top...but its a DRAG SHOW!! There must be GLITTER DAHLING!! Everything about that place was entertaining!! Between the Mimosas and Bloody Mary's [ Spicy and strong] we were well prepared for the show. The performances were good - especially the ending one with the transformation from Glam to Everyday! We really wished that we had more cash for tips.. But the FOOD! WHO KNEW??? Amazing!! Everyone was well satisfied with their food and choice of drinks. Steaks were well cooked, Salmon cakes were seasoned well. We all had something different and shared it around. Always looking for something new and different to partake in. Well.... this was the place to do just that My man and I went for dinner and show. Nothing special to celebrate. It was super fun. Well for me anyway.... my guy was a little uncomfortable at times because they really focused in on him when dancing in the aisle. I never laughed so hard and the pictures that I have of him he has a got a genuine smile so I know he was entertained to. Bring dollars bills. I had no idea what to expect so I was surprised to be giving them money like a strip club. Food was surprisingly good. Not gourmet, but for what I expected it was good quality. Went with two girlfriends for Sunday brunch and I loved it. Great food and unlimited "holy water" - mimosa or bloody Mary's. I had the omelet with broccoli and home fries, it was very yummy. Fabulous! Saw a wonderful show here a few Saturday's ago with a large group of girls. The drag queens were on point! Hilarious, engaging, and dressed to the nines! I loved every moment of this experience. The food that we ordered during the show was good. Everyone seemed to like what they got. The server (who was also in the drag show) was amazing. She made sure you were satisfied and enjoying yourself. I defnitely reccomend this place if you are looking for something fun and differnet to do in South Florida. Went for a friend's bday on Tuesday night had a ball, our waitress Deja was both entertaining and fun she kept us laughing the entire time. Besides the great performance she put on the other girls did a great job also especially the host. This place will be on my occassional to do list. Awesome show!!! Loved it and I will definitely be back. All of the girls have a ton of personality and are so nice about taking pictures with you. Love the decor. Definitely the place to go for a bachelorette or birthday party. Expect to spend at least $60-$70 if you are drinking and going with a group. Its not a cheap evening and it is important that everyone in your party bring cash because they only take 2 credit cards per check and they won't split your check. This is not specified on the website. There is a $10 charge for the birthday/bachelorette celebration (crown, picture on stage and dessert (not on the website either) on top of the show charge. So if you don't want to pay that, don't tell them its your birthday/bachelorette! Appetizers are not included in the prix fixe menu. Just entree, caesar salad (too much dressing!) and dessert (which was a plate of yummy cannoli's for the whole table). Our total bill for 6 was almost $400 for a Saturday night. That included 2 birthdays. Everyone ordered the prix fixe menu, however 2 people ordered appetizers and but not everyone had a cocktail. I believe it was 18% gratuity added. One of the birthday girls made our reservation 2 weeks in advance. There is only complimentary valet parking. It gets a little crazy especially between shows cause you have people leaving and arriving at the same time. They offer VIP parking where you pay $5 to park in front and you keep your keys. So about 4 years ago me and 2 great friends stumbled upon a great odyssey is freedom of expression. We were mesmerized by the simplistic menu, ok drinks and great entertainment. It made it special that we were coming off of a cruise and promised ourselves we would return. We still have not figured out WHY it is so fabulous to watch men imitate women and to a certain extent, be more fem fatale. We found our faces hurting from the awesome service and actual pride in what they were doing. IDK I consider myself a hard to please DIVA and self proclaim QUEEN of wherever I am, I must say, my crown was taken off, along with some hair and washed off my make up and was feeling beautiful amoungst my new temporary friends, Cher, Lucille Ball, Whitney Houston, The restaurant is intimate and the service is as well. I truly enjoyed myself and am anxiously waiting to return. I must say, I enjoyed the relaxed and professional atmosphere. The service I received here was NOTHING like what I recieve at many other places. Went here with a group of friends from work on a Friday night for the 6:30 show. There were 14 of us. Some had been here before and others was their first time. I didn't drink but my friends that did order drinks said the their drink was ok not the best drinks around. The food was also decent nothing out of the world but pretty good. But the reason we came was for the show. I of course got selected to get picked on and you have to come here with a fun attitude. They can be offensive but it is all in fun. There is no censor so if you are easily offended you may want to skip out. I found the raw humor entertaining and with the group of people that went we had a fun time. I would come back with friends to enjoy this fun night. read more
