CHEMICAL BURN! Hands down the worst salon experience of my life here. I booked an appointment a week out for a 1200 appointment on a Saturday to receive highlights, ashy toner, and a cut. I show up at the salon to find my name not in the computer for an appointment that day. The person behind the computer tells me that I mixed up the days saying that I booked an appointment for the day before and was a no show. While this person was telling me it was my fault, another hairstylist comes up and says under her breath to the guy I was the "6th person that week" to have been incorrectly put in the book. First red flag. They asked if I would come back another day but I told them I really didn't want to do that since I was traveling from the city and took the train all the way to Ridgewood. I ended up waiting until 12:40 before another stylist (who I did not originally book) squeezed me in with two other ladies she was also coloring and cutting hair with concurrently. The highlights went okay, but the second red flag came when they brought me to the wash station. During the toning process and because she was rushing to do two other ladies at the same time, she got toner IN MY EYEBALL. FYI depending on the type of toner, you can go blind if it gets in your eye. I immediately sense a chemical burn and start freaking out. She grabbed a damp rag and gave it to me to put in my eye while she continued to rinse out my hair (since she didn't want my hair to turn purple). I was extremely concerned, but by mere coincidence it was not the type of toner that could cause blindness, but it was still extremely painful since it is a chemical. It continued to hurt throughout the remainder of my appointment. The hairstylist hastily finishes my cut in 5 minutes and bring me to check out where they charge me full price (third red flag). I'm not confrontational though and I pay the full price. I take the train back home and look in the mirror only to find out that the cut was so hastily done the lengths were different by about an inch from the left side to right side of my face. Unbelievable. That was the final red flag for me. I do not recommend this place, and will not go back. Ever. read more

I bought a Groupon and went in a couple months ago. I asked her to to give me layers and a face frame. She gave me no layers, no face frame and cut my hair wayyyy too short. I forget her name, but she was very nice, just did nothing I asked for! I was very disappointed and had to go to a different salon to get my hair fixed. read more

I went to Lisa Thomas for a haircut the other week with Chanel. I told her how I was debating on getting highlights or changing my hair color and by the end of my appointment I was totally convinced that I needed a change. She was so kind and had the best attitude. I was so excited by the suggestions she gave me that I made an appointment with her for the next week! I love how my color and blowout came out! Melissa was super sweet, constantly checking up on me and making sure I was happy throughout the process. I was tempted to write a review after reading some of the meaner ones on here. I got my haircut here over the summer by the apprentice that they had on staff (I'm sorry to say I can't remember her name!) When I got there I was a little apprehensive because there was only a couple of people in there and the salon I'm used to is usually poppin. However, I'm a college student paying my own way and I can't afford those $60+ haircuts!! So when I saw the prices, and then the apprentice prices, I thought why not? I went for a simple straight up haircut. The girl who cut my hair was so sweet and friendly. Usually I find the small talk awkward but she was easy to talk to. She gave me good feedback on what I told her about my hair and answered all my questions. She ended up convincing me to get layers. Who I assume was a master stylist sat nearby the whole time and checked the cut when she was finished. I'm trying to grow it out and she didn't cut off any more than was necessary. Unfortunately, I couldn't get it blow dried because the girl had a class to go to. But being a student myself, I understood! She didn't just leave it at that, she offered to have the regular stylist blow dry it if I wanted but I just opted for it to air dry. My hair is naturally wavy and curls at the ends so it always looks different when it naturally dries from when a stylist blows it out and I wanted to see how it would normally look. She did very well with the layers and cut! I'm not very knowing when it comes to hair but it looked fine to me! Very healthy and even. And at $7 bucks for a simple, no nonsense haircut, that can't be beat. I'll be going back to the apprentice and see what she thinks about coloring. read more

I must say I was INCREDIBLY hesitant to try this place given all the negative reviews. I purchased a Groupon here and thought to take a chance and give it a try in any case, and I'm glad I did. Service: I dealt with Karen P and could not have been happier with how my hair came out! She not only listened to what I wanted for my first time getting full highlights but "felt" what I could handle and walked me through each process as she did it. I thought this was very important to me. Of note, I noticed some of the comments were about the owner - I should mention: I thought she was the receptionist and she was SUPER polite throughout the entire visit. I had no idea it was the owner until the end of my visit and was surprised she was still there past hours, showing how much she cared for her business. Cleanliness: I noticed that the place was quite clean: ALL the tools used were in barbicide and there was no chunks of hair lying around that wasn't swept up in a timely manner (it's a hair salon, there will be hair on the floor, and it does get swept up between clients/washes). The only thing I was upset about was having some hair dye on the bottom of my sweater. I'll be spraying it with some hair spray tonight and taking it to the cleaners, but this was my fault as I was asked to sit still during certain times and fidgeted throughout the ENTIRE process. All in all, everyone was accommodating as I had arrived 15 minutes late and my hair took an unexpectedly longer time to blow dry and they had to stay late, past closing hours. It was worth the wait as I have not had my hair blown out by a professional in nearly 5 years since they tend to leave the root curly (think type 4A/B hair). She did not use the "excuse" that my hair was "too curly" to leave the roots curly, and actually took the time to straighten it, which I really appreciated. read more

I had Stephanie and she did such a good job on my hair! I had jet black hair and she accommodated to my harder to lift, virgin hair. I had partial highlights done and she kept on checking my hair to see what color it lifted to and she even put two toners/colours on my hair to make sure I got the chocolate brown I wanted. I was first brought to this hair salon by a close friend who knows the owner Lisa. Since then I've been with my stylist Emily and she is awesome! She always makes me feel amazing and for a mommy of two toddlers that's a big plus! Always helps a girl out with a glaze here and there and my color is always on point. I never walk out unhappy. She asked me couple questions that included if I trust her. She seemed like a nice person so I did. She gave me an amazing cut. I went in here with a groupon for a cut and blowout. My stylist was Emily and needless to say she was amazing. I went in with some pictures to show the stylist what I wanted and Emily took the time to explain that it would mean I'll have to lose lengths of my hair. She instead gave suggestions based on what I was looking for. I told Emily that my hair looks thin on the ends and it is really frizzy. She absolutely fixed both these issues while keeping the length of my hair. My husband today noticed my hair and asked me, "where did you get so much hair from?". Emily gave me tips on how to take care of my hair and also introduced me some products that would work well with my fine and straight hair. I have been coming to Nicola for months now after I was gravely disappointed by my previous hair dresser. Nicola gave me the best cut/color I have received in years!! Drove over an hour with my girlfriend cause the salon was recommended to us by a friend which was a huge mistake. We were taken care by Karen which had a terrible customer service and wouldn't really listen to how my girlfriend wanted her her to be done. She kinda did whatever she wanted. This place really needs to focus on treating it's customers with care and actually listen to them. I can tell from management this place is a no go to. Owner seems to be very defensive with every bad review. How about you take care of your business with a better quality? Time wasted, gas wasted and left pissed off. I really wanted to like this place and the girl who cut my hair was recommended by a friend, but I can't lie I'm not happy. My hair looked great when I left the salon because it was styled but when I washed it and straightened it myself I realized my front layers were not even. I stopped by unannounced to get the girl to fix it but she wasn't there so they asked me to sit in the managers chair to have it looked at. The manager quickly noticed my hair in fact was uneven and proceeded to cut it. ..and cut it. .and texturized it. ..and cut it some more. Now the left side is longer then the right side. She told me I should come back next week so the original girl who cut it can take a look, but shouldn't she have been able to fix it herself? I don't want my layers any shorter, and what's worse, my mom who is a former hair stylist noticed my back layers aren't blended correctly. I am the type of person who decides they need a hair cut and wants to get it that day. I scheduled an appointment on Lisa Thomas Salon's website which I must say is very convenient and easy. Unfortunately, I did not realize that Groupon is not accepted at any salon on Saturdays (when they are usually busy). The owner was very accommodating despite my error. The deep conditioning was great and Lucy who cut my hair was very caring and attentive. I was given a new customer care package upon leaving. I will definitely be back and highly recommend trying Lisa Thomas Salon. I'm going to preface all this by saying that I LOVED my hair. I came in with brassy blonde, and was desperate for some hair rehab... Tina was great, sweet, and gave me exactly what I asked for. I will be back... to see her!! My only complaint (and it's not a deal breaker) was the ambiance isn't that of a modern salon, and the lighting is fluorescent... so my hair actually looked better in natural lighting than it did at the salon! So minor, but worth mentioning. Don't let the less-than-trendy ambiance put you off this place... I had an amazing experience. I was here for the first time for a blowout last weekend. Overall, I was happy with my hair, which is important to note, but unfortunately, the negative experience overshadowed the result. I'm really surprised that no one has mentioned how uncomfortable the shampoo chairs are. They look like office desk chairs, and when they recline, they don't stop when your neck reaches the sink. So, all your weight is resting on your neck on the edge of the sink, with no back or neck support at all. I asked the girl shampooing my hair if my chair was broken, and she laughed and said that "no, everyone complains about the chairs." She said she'd hurry so that I could be "out of my misery" as soon as possible (her words). This may seem like a silly complaint, but I've honestly never been so uncomfortable during a shampoo in my life. Another thing that was pretty awkward was the fact that staff members asked me if I was using a Groupon many times throughout my visit (at least 4 - twice when I came in, once while I was in the chair, and again when I paid). I did not have a Groupon, and I told them so each time they asked. I'm not sure what their issue is with Groupon, but it was uncomfortable to be repeatedly asked about it, especially since I didn't have one. My stylist was very sweet, but she was telling me distressing stories about her life and it was just not what I wanted to hear when I was trying to relax and be pampered. It would have been nice that she wanted to chat, and normally I would have been happy to do so, but the topic was way too heavy for meeting this person for the very first time. Lastly, while I was in the chair, the two year old next to me who had just gotten her hair cut fell off the stylist's chair and onto the floor (on her back) while no one was holding her. Loud thud (the absolute worst sound in the world), of course followed by screams and cries - poor little thing! In my opinion, this was ultimately the mother's fault, but someone should have been watching the toddler and making sure she was safe the entire time she was in the chair. It was extremely stressful to say the least. With all the other salon choices in Ridgewood, I won't be returning. Looking for a more refined, relaxing experience. read more

MARISSA from the LISA THOMAS HAIR SALON SAVED my hair from the aftermath of THE LOFT SALON IN MADISON (THE WORST SALON EVER!!!!!) MARISSA is a hair SAVER and was able to treat and repair what was left of the botched job the LOFT SALON did. When I first sat in her chair she knew the damage and knew how FRAIL what was left was. With a ton of patience, great products and good old PROFESSIONALISM my grim situation started to turn around. It took 6 long months and still is a work in progress.I Highly recommend MARISSA she was truly a lifesaver when this other salon left me scrambling during the holidays!!! I got a perm from Mary . 2 weeks ago and she was AMAZING. She was super nice and very quick . The other employees where very nice as well . I left happy . Unfortunately my hair did not take the perm very well . It was waves , not curly as I would like . I went back to get it re permed . Mary again attended me and she was very understanding . She was very attentive and wanted it to do it right for me . She made me feel like I'm the only one that she cared about . She didn't let anyone touch my hair BUT her . She made me feel comfortable. The perm came out amazing . Exactly what I wanted . I walked in there thinking I was going to pay full price. And I actually didn't . She just charged me the difference of the perm .( last time I got a regular perm , second time spiral perm) THIS SALON IS AMAZING. especially Mary!!! read more

Terrible experience at the salon. The staff is extremely rude. My stylist, Emily, was on her phone while doing my hair. She texted back and forth and did not speak to me once. She also had a huge attitude, was not nice, and almost burned my ear off with the blow dryer. I would not recommend going here and paying full price, if you have a groupon, you get what you paid for.
