Zero stars. A truly bizarre experience. We go for lunch to meet another couple. We were the first to arrive. The restaurant was almost empty. The bartender quickly told us they are not serving anyone at the bar. The hostess refused to seat us until our entire party arrived. Which I understand when the restaurant is really busy. While the hostess was telling us to wait she was opening the door and escorting us out of the building into the 90 plus degree heat. There was plenty of room to wait inside at the bar even if service was not available. Needless to say we went somewhere else and will never bother them again as we were an obvious inconvenience for them. We are locals and can't wait to tell all our friends about our experience. read more

OMG!!! If you are ever in the area, this is a MUST GO TO spot! Stop in and have a delicious breakfast shot, one of her delicious lemonade vodka-basil infused drinks and for goodness sakes, EAT SOMETHING! My husband loves the cornedbeed hash. Not a place I would recommend. Had an issue with parking. When told , not asked, to move our car the bartender was rude and confrontational. When asked how much longer for our food waiter was very snarky,which due to time constraints we had to cancel our order. Our host who sat us very pleasant young man. Was very underwhelmed by this place. The food was very average and that's being generous. It was quite expensive. The banana foster was good. The Bloody Mary was supposedly the best ever but it was horrible. I don't recommend it. The traditional eggs Benedict was good except the eggs were over done. The hollandaise sauce was good and the potatoes but that's about it. The service was fine. They don't do Togo food and they don't do any modifications, god forbid you ask to not have something. Food was REALLY good but a bit overpriced. The service was good besides the attempts to get us to buy more food when we knew what we wanted. I googled the nearest brunch spot after a weekend at the beach & ended up here. So glad I did. There was no line when we got there & we were promptly greeted & seated by who we would later find out is the restaurant's namesake & owner, Lisa. Lisa circles back to give you the run down before ordering-entrée suggestions, specialty drinks, & the fact that her employees come first here (love it!). The food...Y'all...They season their food here!! Like, I'm not even being funny. Didn't have to pick up a salt or pepper shaker once! That's big to me & I was highly impressed. We ordered the Lisa's Homemade Corned Beef Hash & Eggs (with a side of grits & country ham) and Crab Cake Eggs Benedict. The grits weren't the creamy consistency that I'm used to but, other than that, everything was excellent. My mango mimosa was on point & not filled to the brim with juice with just a splash of bubbly like some other places (the disrespect :-/ ). A few things to keep in mind when deciding to dine here: 1. It's pretty much a scratch kitchen. With that being said, all of the alterations, substitutions, "I have a gluten allergy so may I have breadless toast?" stuff is a no-no. 2. The inside isn't very large & the patio was closed when we dined in so, if you are coming with a large party, I suggest maybe calling ahead. 3. The food is good but do not expect heaping, overflowing plates. The amount served is satisfying, but you probably won't have anything left over for a doggy bag. 4. Lisa...We love Lisa! She was extremely hospitable & we had amazing conversation throughout our meal. She is a no-nonsense Jersey girl with a tough exterior but a good heart. Will someone fix the front door from banging? Very annoying. Lisa needs to spend less making up rules-all parties must be complete before being seated, no saucer under teapot, etc. No diet coke!? A breakfast place that opens at 9am? It is nice that she circulates & asks people "how is everything," but needs to wait for an answer. When my Lewy Body Dementia partner didn't answer quick enough, she made a comment, "He doesn't talk?" Too brash. Too disrespectful. Prices are too high. read more

Have been coming to Lisa's Cafe for years now. She recently flooded in Helene and her and her staff came back better than ever despite many hurdles. Lisa is originally from Jersey and has been a Madeira local for 25 years, running the restaurant for 15. This restaurant is everything to her and it shows. Went here on Mother's Day to celebrate with my Mom, Dad and Grandma. It was good food but expensive. I loved my meal of the Eggs Benedict but not enough to return because of the pricing unfortunately. It cost the four of us about $100 to have breakfast. I will say the staff was very nice and helpful when helping select meals. It was a nice touch to give the mothers each a rose for the day. read more

Friends and I went to Lisa's this morning. We found Lisa to be extremely off-putting. As we tried to enter the restaurant she yelled at us to join the line that was forming on the side of the building. There were no clear signs or instructions on where to check in. Lisa shared, "I don't take names for waiting. People know their place in line. Haven't had any fist fights yet!" Once seated, we waited an extremely lengthy time before our Server ever even said hello. Slow service was the theme of the meal. I was offered a refill on coffee and never received it. From there, the food was mediocre at best. My friend hated her eggs Benedict and my fiancé thought his biscuits and gravy were too spicy. I did enjoy the Bananas Foster French Toast but the ham steak was inedible. The server never checked on us until she brought the check and I asked her to take the ham off the bill. They obliged but Lisa did stop by and inform me so kindly (sarcasm) that I was the first customer to send the ham back in 11 years. This would be a one star review, but this place earns a second star because our server did have a sunny disposition and the iced lava coffee was on point. read more

5-stars for food, but they get a ding for the hidden upsell charges. We ride bicycles daily and wanted to try a new place. Someone said to try Lisa's and they were right. We had excellent food and a pretty quick kitchen was in full effect. Biscuits and gravy, and french toast were quite yummy, and recommended. Now, the ding. And I'm posting here instead of sending to the operator direct because it's a small but annoying trait many restaurants deploy. The hidden charge for two orders of side bacon (also $6 for three slices???) needs to be stricken from the servers' pitch. The server asked if we wanted "some fries or bacon with that?" It's a move that no consumer likes to be surprised by, the "hidden" upsell. And then to be kinda bamboozled, we paid $12 extra for 6 pieces of bacon. I hope the owner or manager reads this and alters their upsell strategy because this review would have been an extra great review because the food was so delicious. Instead, they traded a glowing 5-star for a meh 4-star... all for $12 and a business practice that should end. That all being ranted about, food was great and we were served pretty quickly. Just didn't like the hidden charges =) Go there and enjoy the food!!! read more

As many of the reviews indicated, Lisa is not one for providing good customer service. She was more concerned with larger parties than dealing with seating my son and I. Once we were seated, after being passed over for two larger parties, we were seated. Our waitress was fine, nothing fantastic. Everything, like many mentioned, was an up-charge. I had a Togo order as well which was not boxed up and I ended up having to box it in small Togo boxes because that's all they had. It was just a shi!show! My son got the French Toast, $14, and I want you to please look at the picture of what we received. We asked for powdered sugar, at a minimum, and they didn't have anything. Also the dish didn't come with a side. My dish was average, nothing special. The potatoes were completely covered in black pepper. Lisa made a comment to a table about a group, who she got into a verbal spat with over their seating and left, that if people can't appreciate her amazing food, they should just go to the Waffle House. When we walked in Lisa was rude and said that we better tip and not be "ten percenters". She continued on about how we better tip which I thought was super unprofessional and weird. Then the server who brought us waters threw are drinks down and said your welcome each time before we could even say thank you. It came off very passive aggressive. Then when one of us ordered the breakfast sandwich, she asked for no side, and then the server suggested she can do a side of strawberries instead. When suggesting that, she failed to mention that a SMALL side of strawberries was an extra 7 DOLLARS. She completely failed to mention any up charge and suggested she could sub the side of strawberries. Another one of us ordered a "iced late" and they brought out plain black coffee that was nothing like an iced latte and the coffee was also 7 dollars. Completely overpriced food for rude staff and bad service. Our girl server was nice but we felt judged there and we were thrown off from the start by the tipping comment. Go BEFORE you're starving, they are busy and everything is made fresh so you'll be waiting 30-45 minutes for your food. If you know this going in, I think your experience will be better. We were greeted as soon as we walked in & the owner told us it wouldn't be long before she could get us an inside booth. The place is small so we felt like we were in the way no matter where we were standing even though the staff assured us we were fine. It was a little uncomfortable. The food was excellent. A tad overpriced but that's likely because of location (Beach prices for tourists). The mimosas are HUGE! The breakfast potatoes are seasoned amazingly! The corned beef hash is not from a can and tastes pretty good. The grits were hearty but lacked flavor. On a busy weekend morning, you might not find parking as there's only a few spots. We ended up at the end of the block in metered public beach access parking. The walk wasn't far at all but that lot is also very small & it's kinda a bummer to pay for parking just to eat. read more
