A friend recommended Salt Rock Grill. I called ahead to check on the wait and they said it would be a while, but my husband and I decided to stop by anyway and hope we could maybe sit at the bar. To our pleasant surprise, we were seated right away even though the restaurant was very busy! They initially placed us in a booth and we kindly asked if there was a table near the window since they had a great view of the water. The hostess checked and found us a table next to the window. Great start so far. Our server was pleasant, though service was a bit slow. But again, the restaurant was very busy so we understood and were just happy to enjoy a meal there. It was our last night on the beach and we were very hungry, so we decided to order a bunch of items: Espresso martini Bread basket Lobster bisque Smokin' fresh tuna spread Sushi Red grouper (catch of the day), Indian shores style with shareable side of au gratin potatoes Red grouper (catch of the day), wood fire grilled with mashed potatoes Shareable side of charred asparagus Our server spaced them out and brought out the drink, the bread, the soup, and tuna spread first. The bread was supposed to be sourdough, but when the basket came out I noticed it didn't look or taste like sourdough so we checked with the server and he informed us that they ran out of sourdough so they gave us basically a French baguette. This was surprising and quite disappointing because we should have been notified of the change right away. Also concerning for allergies, but fortunately, we didn't have any. Then came the sushi and finally the entrees. Almost everything was delicious. One of the grouper entrees was a bit overcooked, but we really enjoyed the sides. The espresso martini was smooth and strong. Even though I always make room for dessert, we decided to skip because by the time we finished our entrees, we had already been there for two hours. We were ready to turn in for the night. Overall, we had a good experience and we were very grateful to be seated right away despite them being very busy. We would also recommend the food. Ordered takeout for the family the other night. Many in the family seemed to enjoy their takeout. I actually found the food that I ordered to be have little flavor or to not be flavorful. Also, my son ordered a scallop dish and it came with almonds all over the plating but almonds were not described at all in the menu. When we called the restaurant back to talk about the mistake, the server who answered, said she didn't think that anything could be done about it, but maybe they could make a buttered pasta for our son who ordered a signature entrée and not from the child menu. She said she would ask her manager and call us back. She did not call us back, so my wife called back and asked to speak to a manager. She was able to talk to the manager. Ultimately, my son was able to get the order cooked again without nuts. The manager's excuse was that they had recently designed new menus, but they hadn't been printed so the nuts weren't listed. We ordered off of a digital copy online so that would not need to be printed onto paper. For allergens like nuts, that absolutely needs to be listed on the menu. They did comp his order so I gave two stars, but thank God he's a super careful kid. The food that I ordered was grouper chowder, and the coconut shrimp appetizer. The chowder was bland and had one 1 in x 1 in x 1.5 in chunk of grouper in it. The saltines it came with had more flavor. The shrimp in the coconut shrimp was cooked but parts of the coconut were undercooked and tasted like raw coconut, which is either because too many were cooked in the fryer at once or the fryer temp was too high. We picked up the order. I noticed that the place was busy but the kitchen staff seemed small. Probably too much pressure in the kitchen to meet diner demands. My wife and I recently dined at the Salt Rock Grill and had a great experience. We made a reservation to celebrate my wife's birthday. They accommodated our request to have a table at a window overlooking the ICW. Our reservation was at 8 pm on a weekday and the place was crowded and the parking lot packed. The Salt Rock is a large restaurant with a few dining rooms as well as outdoor seating. It is a classy place with nice decor. We started with a few drinks that were expertly prepared. They offer fresh bread with seasoned olive oil which was excellent. We both ordered Filet Mignon with baked potatoes and grilled asparagus. Everything thing was first rate. The filets were perfectly cooked. Our Server, Hayley M., was one of the highlights of the meal. She was so personal and accommodating. Haley is a great waitress and a credit to the restaurant. While we had a later timed reservation for the 4th of July, we were able to be accommodated for our earlier 45min arrival at 5pm. They were pretty busy so that was awesome. We were immediately sat in their sushi room, the ambiance a bit outdated. Our server from the get go seemed rushed and distracted, but kindly answered our questions and took our order. Our steak tartar appetizer took a long time to arrive. Sadly wasn't up to par and seemed kinda mushier than any I've ever tasted. It also lacked seasoning, so giving that 2 stars. The accompaniments on the plate helped so it wasn't a total failure but still a disappointment. Their courtesy sourdough bread and olive oil with herbs was good. Our meal also took a long time to arrive. When it did, we had to ask for forks because apparently somebody didn't set the table correctly... and server didn't notice before our dinner service. He should have noticed when bringing out our appetizer at the very least. As for the main entrees, The panko hogfish and garlic mash was good, as well as the picatta sauce, 4stars. The filet mignon kabob with shrimp scampi was disappointing, 1.5 stars. We couldn't tell it was filet mignon and double checked the menu later thinking it was some other cut of beef. The shrimp in itself had a different odd taste. Not the scampi sauce which was good but the actual shrimp. We were not pleased at all with this type of shrimp. While our server glanced over at us several times before the appetizer, he didn't check on us again till about half way through the main course. By then I wasn't feeling well and had my husband flag him down to start our exit service. That took awhile too. 2 stars in service. For what this place use to be like back in the day, I would say the service and food quality have gone down. Today's experience was less than favorable and below average. For the price of the food, I would say we didn't get what we paid for. 2 sodas, 1 appetizer and 2 entrees was $110.. what we got in return didn't match. So to answer the magic question, no, we will not be giving this place our business anymore. Stopped here for an early dinner for my friends bachelorette. The food took 45 minutes to come out despite the restaurant not appearing busy in the late afternoon. Server did not mention anything about the long wait. The salad of the sea was not the best - avocado was browning, iceberg lettuce, and seafood was a bit undercooked. SOLID 5 STARS! Two words: STONE CRAB! My son and I took out my 90 year old mother because she wanted stone crab claws. We ordered 2 lbs of the Large Crab Claws ($53 per pound), these were the mid priced claws (Choices were medium, large, and jumbo). The claws came with a tasty dipping sauce and were the meatiest stone crab claws I've ever had. We selected our entire meal from the appetizer menu. Stone Crab Sushi ($25), 1doz raw oysters, 1 doz Parmesan baked oysters, Grouper soup, and a huge meatball. 3 people ate 9 appetizers and we each also had a martini with blue cheese stuffed olives (With extra olives, because there is no such thing as too many blue cheese stuffed olives). Throughout the entire meal, our waiter Jaime was on the ball. He knew the entire menu and daily specials by heart. He Made suggestions without being pushy. He brought extra napkins and lemon wedges without being asked. Every time a water glass became close to half empty, it was filled. Every used dish was whisked away. Salt Rock Grill has completely lost its way. It is 8/14/2026- we were there to celebrate my wife's birthday - 5 adults, 3 kids. Made a reservation for 8 a week earlier for 8 people at 6:15pm with no issues. That should have been my first clue. It use to take acts of God and Congress to get into the place, trying to make reservations weeks & weeks in advance. Here's what we got for $388 - a $99 bottle of champagne - grouper nuggets that were $19 that were supposedly lightly tempura battered and fried - they were cornmeal, out of a freezer bag and not good. A 20oz bone-in ribeye that was cooked to a decent medium rare but had no flavor, a redfish entree that was $31 that had a supposed world-class compote kinda ride along that was absolutely flavorless - a glass of white wine - an old fashioned - a kid's steak & fries (the steak was cooked to a decent medium rare - but again, no flavor) - a kid's buttered noodle dish - a side of mushrooms for the steak (very, very good) - a bleu cheese wedge (very good) ....... and a mandatory 20% tip - $60+ ....... The service - outstanding - Dallas was his name ...... pure hustle & a great personality. There is NO WAY we will go back here - back 3 to 5 years ago, it was one of the best restaurants in all of Tampa Bay. Now - a complete tourist trap that cooks nursing home food. So. Sad. read more

We came for the early bird specials and ordered the Filet kabob and the Fisherman's platter. I also ordered a lobster bisque appetizer and regretted the choice. I can't say it was bad as I'm sure people like it but it was too sweet for my liking. The filet kabob was cooked and seasoned right and very tasty. The scallops and shrimp were lightly breaded and pretty tasty. The fish of the day, that came with the platter was red fish. The fish was over battered and too dry, fried and dried like a potato chip. The dinners also came with bread (fresh baked) salads, and desert, which were all good. Salt Rock is great! Had an early dinner this evening with a few folks from work. Had a table overlooking the water, elevated a bit over the back patio. Great views! Great service and great food as well. The sourdough with oil/seasoning was a delicious kickoff (warm and delicious!). Also had a kabob appetizer with chicken and steak, flavorful and cooked perfectly. Even served with a cast iron fire bowl so you can heat it up more if you'd like, smelled delicious and made for a perfect char. I ordered the pork chop and it was the best chop I've ever eaten at a restaurant. Tender but with a perfect char on the outside. The sauce was sweet but not overpowering. Mashed potatoes were the perfect compliment. They even bought us small desserts to enjoy after we finished our meal. Server was fast, attentive, and nailed every bodied order. I decided to go with the Black Grouper with Gulf Shrimp, Crab, and Scallops topping. I got my oysters and they were delicious. The parmesan and garlic are perfect. I want to say again the atmosphere here is great for families or meeting with friends. Conversations can be heard up and down the table. My entree and most of my party's was fresh caught. The day's catch is removed at the end of the day. My meal has arrived and as you see it looks great. We are starting to converse more and I can't be rude to my friends so I will say it tasted great. We preferred inside at this time as the temperature dropped at night. We still had a nice view of the water. We started with their ceviche and lady sunset roll. We got a table with a very nice view of the water, which I really enjoyed. Our server gave us a rundown of the menu, answered our big group's many questions, and the service was fairly quick. We ordered the bread to start, which was absolutely delicious and served with a very herby olive oil for dipping. I also tried the clams casino appetizer which was delicious as well. For my entree, I got the macadamia crusted redfish (one of the catch of the day options) with garlic mashed potatoes. The macadamia crust was crunchy and flavorful, and sauce underneath was delicious. The mashed potatoes were very flavorful and cooked perfectly. I really appreciate that they catch their own fish or fly it in, and you can even see the boats they use to catch it! This was the best experience we've had in a long time. The dinner started with our great waiter, Brandon. He took the time to make us feel welcomed and didn't rush our interactions. He seemed excited and knowledgeable about the menu. The menu is huge. There are a lot of choices, mostly seafood and beef. I had the twin filet minion sliders. They were cooked to a perfect medium rare and had an amazing horseradish sauce. I loved these little guys. They were served with fries and I had a house salad with house made vinaigrette. My wife had an item on the "supper club (early bird)" menu. She had the Atlantic Salmon Rosette, mashed potatoes, Caesar salad and a little cobbler dessert. Seated in the overflow section despite making a reservation (to celebrate a birthday), the ambiance was not the best but acceptable. We ordered two drinks from happy hour, and neither tasted anything like what we ordered. Our appetizers came on time and were good but then after finishing those and waiting over 45mins we gave up waiting. Again, not acceptable. If you're looking for a great place to go that's not too fancy but also isn't your typical chain restaurant, you've found it! I recommend coming for the early dinning menu as they have a large selection with 3 courses for only $25. It's a great location and I don't think there's a bad seat in the whole restaurant. The view of the intercostal is breath taking and the perfect backdrop for any meal. Our server heather was super knowledgeable and attentive to keeping our table clean! I highly recommend her as she had a great deal of patience for any questions we had! Now to the most important part: the food!! My favorite item was the Mahi Mahi off the early dinning menu! Just had another amazing meal at Salt Rock Grill in Indian rocks Florida. The atmosphere is always amazing and now with the Christmas decorations up it's very warm and inviting. For a change I got the ribeye steak instead of fish and it was cooked to perfection rare plus along with garlic mashed potatoes. Shane recommended the candied bacon as an appetizer, and it was excellent. Shane is a brand new waiter to the restaurant and he gave excellent service. You should ask for him when you come here because he goes out of his way to make you feel comfortable and welcome. read more

Came for the Supper Club Early Menu mainly because we didn't have reservations. We were very tired from kayaking and it was time to head home after a nice dinner. We wanted to stop somewhere nice and this fit the bill. My wife had wanted to come here on a prior business trip, but was not able to come and had been talking about it. I want to add that this location is on a small hill (hurricane) which has steps and a steep ramp. The parking lot has some unleaveld areas so be careful with elderly and disabled. We arrived right after opening and were seated quickly. The wait staff were very friendly, knowledgeable and genuine. I usually get some banter, but this felt like a earnest attempt to learn about us and our dining needs. FYI CURRENT MENUS including Supper Specials are all online at website I saw some of the 1* ratings and they usually seemed to be very harsh about one issue that occurred during the visit while still mentioning other positives. Don't know why people jump to a 1* when they had a meal and paid for it. Anyway just my 2 cents. We started with a cocktail and Baystar Mojito which was on the supper special (happy hour). They also provided bread with olive oil and fresh herb drippings. We also tried the escargot which arrived still boiling in butter and was AMAZING. I ate off the supper menu with the beef K-Bob and garlic mashed potatoes which was amazing, and moderately portioned (no chance of leftovers, but filling). I was also admiring the meat display with the cuts in a refrigerated cabinet and the large walk-in wine room in glass at the entrance. The wine menu is a high point and point of pride of this location. The bathrooms were very clean and tidy. My wife had a catch of the day which she loved. There is outdoor seating and an enclosed glass area in the back with water views. We were in the front area between the entrance station and the bar. Right at 5:30pm the place began to fill quickly. Many patrons for the midweek, so make reservations or try coming at opening. I saw some reviews were even reservations had to wait. Anyway, we had a great time and felt the expense was justified by the quality of the facility, the offerings and the care given in service. From the moment we walked in, the staff was incredibly friendly and attentive--top-notch service all the way. The food was really solid. I had the stuffed mahi mahi with a baked potato, and it was excellent. The Thai salmon was also delicious--super flavorful, though I personally wish it had a bit more heat to it. While the seafood impressed, the steaks were a bit of a letdown. A few people in our group ordered them and felt they didn't quite match the price point. They looked great, but the flavor and tenderness just weren't there for what you pay. We've been dining at Salt Rock for over 15 years and initially it was great. The ambiance with the water and the overall vibe was what you want when at the beach. Last night we ate there and I couldn't be more disappointed. We were seated in the sushi bar room and I felt like I was in a cafeteria. The seats were plastic and cheap, table was broken, and they have these moveable fern-like hedges to separate the room that kept moving a looked so cheap. A big tip jar at the sushi counter looked really tacky for a restaurant that considers itself at a higher scale. The host staff acted like they wanted to be anywhere but working - totally unfriendly. The food was fine, but the value was not worth the $500+ for 5 adults. This used to be our favorite restaurant along Gulf Blvd, but it has clearly gone downhill. The night we came, the staff was overwhelmed, so this affected our dining experience. Now, their food menu is massive... so many options and even different types of food. I thought the food would be mediocre bc never have I ever seen a restaurant with that many food options pull everything off correctly... well, they DID! We got the tuna three ways (not clarified on the menu, but this is actually a sushi roll). It was incredible! We got the chicken, steak, and pork kebabs- every bit of flavors and tender, juiciness made each bite delectable. I got the pecan crusted grouper and my aunt got the scallop crusted (literal scallops) seabass. We also got potatoes au gratin (delicious but the potatoes weren't as tender as expected) and the cauliflower au gratin, in addition to spicy margaritas and old fashions. This could've easily been a 5 star, but the service wasn't as special as the food. Also, the margaritas were served in a regular beer or soda glass ... nothing impressive or girlie! This is our first time eating at this location. Our evening was perfect. We had a great seat outside and our server Shane was excellent! Such a pleasant guy! Both our meals were delicious. We will definitely return next year when we visit Indian Shores again. read more
