Lisa's Mexican Restaurant is at the top of the hill Daly City. Have heard about this place but my first time trying with friends who are regulars. Parking around the area was easy. The decor has an abundance of artisan work, photos, drawings that yearn to tell their stories. It works, warm and cozy. Interior is a bit dark but you feel warmly welcomed by Mario in front, José and Ana in the kitchen. Started with their freshly made guacamole and house-made tortilla chips, wine and shots of tequila! Ordered: * Steak Ala Lisa - cooked w/ranchera sauce & onions. Looked good and aroma was yum. This is a special of the house. Will definitely order this next time. * José's Salad - chopped lettuce, cucumbers, tomatoes, grilled chicken & balsamic dressing. Tried a bite. Really really good! I'll order next time. * Enchilada, Taco, Chile Relleno combo - asked to sub whole beans instead of refried. This is good satisfying meal with a little bit of everything, enchilada, taco & Chile Relleno. The crispy taco was really good. Whatever the sauces were was tasty and, thank goodness, not heavily salty! * House-made flan - this was a really good flan, not overly sweet, melts in your mouth. Good way to end a meal! Other dishes recommended that I need to try on my next visit, Chicken quesadillas, Prawns Ala Brava, Mole anything, Menudo, and those other ones that made me go, oh yea!, grilled combo of steak, chicken, prawns, Chile Colorado & Chile Verde! I went "darn!" when I saw I missed the Agua frescas like Jamaica, Horchata or House-made sangria. See you there! P.S. Enjoyed meal too much with friends and With Mario checking in on us periodically. Unfortunately a good time like this makes me at times forget to take pictures of the dishes...

Great food and good service. Food has that home cooked flavor! Great place to bring your family. There are many choices on the menu. Something for everyone!

Long awaited dinner get together with my friend, and she suggested Lisa's. She said she has been going to Lisa's for ages, so I was excited to check out a new restaurant. Please note - Restaurant is only open until 7pm right now. Staff are so very friendly. I was introduced to Mario - what a character! So much to choose from on the menu. After much debate, I went with the Steak a la Lisa. Really like the flavor of the steak with the onions and peppers, and it went well with the rice and beans. Wish there was more meat, though. Friend ordered the chicken flautas which looked really good too. I want to order that next time. Really clean restaurant, staff very welcoming, and food was good. Bringing my hubs here next time so he can try it, too.

I love a local business that has music and friendly service, and for that it might have gotten 4 stars had the food been a little more flavorful for the prices. Two people and the bill was over $60 with dessert and horchata. Thing is the food is lackluster and tastes like it's from a street fair. Yes, they are friendly, but I'm also judging the food and drinks too. The crispy taco wasn't very hot or crispy, the enchilada was very bland, and the rice and beans tasted just meh. We agreed the best part of the meal was the flan. They make really good flan here. The strawberry drink and horchata were way too sweet, not sure how much sugar they're adding but we didn't finish our expensive agua frescas. I really wanted to like this place, but we left most of our food on the table, and $60 is a lot to pay for Mexican food that leaves you hungry.

I made the mistake of leaving out the red salsa. Don't, it brings your food to a new level!

First off - anyplace that has a Super Burrito listed as an appetizer is #1 in MY book!!! Mario is the most gracious, funny and warm host. Honestly wanted him to sit down and join us! He alone is worth 5*! The sangria and food are what I'd describe as high-end home-style -- what your mom would make at home if she knew what she was doing and wanted to impress a guest, but not so /fancy/ as to be over the top, or just to show off. Very good - high quality - comfort, but still interesting and damned tasty! They'll also tailor your meal any way you need, but if you don't want the beans ... WHY are you there?! LOL! Last but not least - this 1963 true "gem" has all the ambiance that's so desperately missing in today's Ikea-decorated white-walled sterile restaurants. The whole place is eye-candy and you know you're in a different world from the cold of Daly City the second you walk in. These places are disappearing fast, so go enjoy and support the ones still here!!!

I grew up here and I had Godmother who was Hispanic, and cooked every day for us after baseball practice, I swear I was at her home again. The service was excellent, very friendly...almost as if you were a guest in their home. All of the food is prepared fresh. How do I know, I grew up in the city, and not to sound snobby, but we grew up with a certain sophistication of taste to the culturally diverse cuisines of the city. Although its nit technically in San Francisco (Daly City) this place is the real deal... . On my next visit, I'll be sure to hit Lisa's Mexican Restaurants up again!

Subpar Mexican food. Eclectic but that's all. Wouldn't go back. Try Taqueria Guadalajara in SF.

The happy hour menu was pretty awesome as well. If you aren't interested in food but looking for a place to get drinks, the cocktails here are also on point. South San Francisco is a stones throw from where we live and even though there are some solid casual spots, we don't find too many places in this area where you can get amazing food, craft cocktails, and this kind of ambiance. With that being said we were ecstatic to discover this hidden gem. It checks all the boxes!! We ordered the Caesar salad, pozole, burger & Fries, and beef tacos from the happy hour menu. Everything was so good and I am not just saying that! The Caesar salad came served with slices of avocado. Not traditional, but absolutely delicious and nicely dressed. The burger was beautiful and juicy and cooked to perfection. It came served with those french fries that have that extra layer of crispiness.on them. I call them 'next level fries' because that's what they are. My favorite thing, hands down, were the tacos. Oh my God... the tacos!! There are a lot of great Taquerias in the Bay Area but this place can contend. I'm serious. Perfect crispy tacos that came served with this beautiful salsa verde. Truthfully we ordered so much food but the tacos were so good we got another order of them. I ordered a Paloma and it was the perfect drink to go with my tacos. This was our first and only time eating here, but this will definitely be a regular spot for us. I hope moving forward this place stays as wonderful as our experience was tonight. It's such a joy to have an experience like this that doesn't require us driving to San Mateo or San Francisco. It's about time we had places like this in this area. The staff that helped us was also wonderful. The young lady who served us was friendly and helpful with the menu, the bussers were great and there was another lady who checked in on us and helped us throughout the meal. Great service, great staff, terrific food. Please keep up the good work.

This time we were a party of 4 and were celebrating a birthday which they acknowledged and thoughtfully wished happy birthday to our celebrated guest. This time I ordered the ceviche limeño, which was a mix of shrimp, white fish, octopus and calamari served with crunchy corn, soft corn and sweet potato marinated in a delicious sauce with a hint of spice (the base tasted similar to leche de Tigre) Other guests in my party ordered the whole roasted cauliflower with eggplant puree, and the rice with shrimp. Both were delicious. I tried two new alcohol-free drinks: guayaba healer (guava, lime and tajin) and the red October. Both were tasty, however for non alcoholic drinks $12 is a little steep, particularly for the red October which is served in a fluted cup and has a lot less volume than the other non-alcoholic drinks. We ordered two desserts, both were excellent: the suspiro loco with cotton candy and Dulce de leche, strawberries and crumbled graham cracker-like cookies, was crazy and fun, yet well balanced. The second dessert was the tapioca tropical, which is a tapioca pudding with toasted coconut, raspberry and ice cream, which was not too sweet and quite delicious. We got a complimentary coconut tres leches for the birthday guest, which was also delectable. As for the service, it was definitely improved compared to last time, yet not seamless. We were sitting inside this time and had a bigger party. Our waitress was very friendly, however one of the items we ordered never arrived and I had to point it out to them when the check arrived. She apologized and they took it off right away. One of the hosts came to check in on us a couple of times throughout the meal which was much appreciated. Our water glasses were kept full, however it still seems they are understaffed. If I could give half stars they would get 3 1/2 but since the food has been consistently good I guess 4 starts will do for now.
