So first I sit down and that thing they put over you so hair doesn't get on you doesn't even cover me in the front but I got someone else's hair all over my legs and she didn't even notice or take it off me so I wiped it off myself..ew! Then she was cutting my hair and it got all over my legs. At the end (btw I could barely understand her and she was talking really low in a Chinese accent) and she asked for a tip. I was there earlier today for the first time. You get what you pay for - a $10 haircut. A bit of holes, not exactly the way you want your hair done. The barber was really in a hurry to get the next client on the chair so i only asked one quick fix. In the future i'd rather pay a few more bucks and get what i want. NEVER EVER GO TO THIS PLACE!!I took my husband here for a haircut as he doesn't like to spend more than $15 on his hair cut n styling. He simply asked to trim his hair.Mentioned clearly do not make it short. I dunno the ladies name but she started in a mode as if she had done no hair cut since days and started taking off hair brutually. Went in for a simple trim.. Granted I have thick hair but a simple trim should be routine no matter the hair type.. Julie was my stylist and although she was very friendly she did a horrible job. I have been going to this place for 7 years now. One has to be clear about this place. Its a mom & pop hair salon, nothing fancy. They charge moderately for a hair cut (main reason for my loyalty) and do good job. Shouldn't ask and expect too much here. IMO, they cater to a certain market and I perfectly like their services. Pros: Reasonable price; They cut hair as you ask (you should first know what to ask); Fast service; Well located (near Sunnyvale downtown). Cons: Some times is hard to get your view across and understand their view, mainly due to language barrier. But the ladies do their best. read more

Went here after checking some yelp reviews. I was getting inconsistent cuts at the $12-13 places. I've had $30 dollar cuts and some great $60+ dollar cuts, but it seems to me there's not that big of a difference between some of the pricer cuts and a good bargain cut, especially if you're a guy and you're just going to put a bunch of hair goop on later. So, for now I'm going with the cheaper cuts, 'spensive cuts didn't seem to help John Edwards out too much......eh... Luckily my first cut, a few months ago, was with the oft recommended "Ann". She gave me a great cut, using both clippers and shears. Some weeks later I returned and had my haircut by another lady and it wasn't quite as good. I just got another cut from Ann and, again, it was a very good job. We discussed a little more about exactly what I wanted and she was able to do a precise job with the shears. Like short on sides, long on top, small talk, small price? Welcome to Lisa's. Oh, it helps if you are a guy, or like boyish haircut. Women? Not so much. I personally had gone about four times and got decent results (for the price). But one fateful weekday I went in for a pretty basic cut: simple bob, not a crazy-severe PoshSpice-style A-line. Layered around the face without being the aforementioned "Rachel". After cutting silently (oh oh) and much frowning (oh noes) she said I was done. I looked at it and mentioned it looked very noticeably uneven. She said "that's okay, that's in style". Really? I asked if she could even it up, and she seemed reluctant. REALLY. Is "that's in style" the secret code for "get out of my chair"? I'm sorry I don't recall the stylist's name, as I've never set foot in there since. My tip: If you do go, try to get the redheaded stylist who really loves to chat you up (regulars, you know the one). Talk about your love life. She'll get all up in your business but your haircut will be fab. read more

The staff are nice and friendly. I have gone to them at least on 4 occasions. The cuts outcome is never what you ask for. So I am not very happy with this area. Also, Ann highlighted my hair which turned out pretty cool but got the color spray washed into my ear canal which as a result gave me severe ear infection and cost me several hundred dollars for doctor visit and med. As far as the cost they surprised me last time when they charged me full price for a second touch up of root only. The cost for me for both of these highlights was $75 each to be exact . I had a bob cut and I wanted to get it trimmed but didn't want it to be cut too short like a boy cut. After reading the reviews on Yelp, I got an appointment fixed with Rose. I went in, told her that I don't want my hair to be cut too short and explained in detail how I wanted my hair done. Despite of all this she went on to cut my hair exactly the way I didn't want it to be and she never bothered to stop in between and check with me. Though I was totally disappointed, to Rose's credit, the boy cut she did was good. I think if I go back next time, I will make sure she understands me _completely_ and I'll keep an eye on how short she's cutting my hair. I think if we can manage to make them understand what we exactly want our hair to look like, it'll end up good, especially for that price. read more

I regret stepping into this place. One year of growing my hair is GONE. I asked just for a trim and she took at least 3 inches of my hair. The last time I cried for my hair was when I was 8 now I am 28 and I felt so bad! I have been growing my hair for a wedding I am going to this weekend so I just went to get it trimmed and styled and what did i get.... I asked her to cut my bangs as well and she didn't. I had to ask her again and honestly I think I was going to do a better job. Girls, don't spend you $8 here, it will cost you more because you might need a second stylist after visiting Lisa's "perfect" cuts. So, the key here is to find a hair cutter you like, and stick with her - I find they have 6 or 7 stylists pending when you show up - some are exceptional, kind, and quick, and, well, some are not. For the very low price, I think its' worth it to try a couple of them to find "yours" - once you do, it becomes 5 stars, since the stylists tend to stay there a long time. I've had fabulous cuts, and a few losers, for $10 bucks (at first, I didn't want to appear choosy, so simply went with the next available) I've found 3 girls who do amazing jobs, and now I simply stick with them. So with a bit of work and experimentation (!) you can wind up with a great cut here for a long time. read more

I've tried this place a few times and have been very pleased. I like the haircutters at the Sunnyvale Washington Ave location much better than the one on El Camino. For only $10 ($8 plus $2 tip) you get a decent haircut. This is considerably less expensive than the place I went before. They have plenty of stylists so the wait is pretty short. BEWARE: They do _NOT_ honor appointments. I've been going to Lisa's for years. I usually make an appointment. If I arrive early and they're occupied, I wait until they're done. At that point, if it's past my appointment time, then I get my cut next. If I arrive late, I join the pack of people who have no appointment and wait my turn. Today, I just discovered that they do _NOT_ in fact honor appointments. (This must have been the first time I've arrived early that there were other people waiting.) I arrived early, acknowledged the cutter and waited until she was done. It was now past my appointment time. But instead of taking me, she took someone who had no appointment who had arrived before me. When I reminded her of my appointment, she tried to give me the "sorry" look, but took the other guy first anyway. (If she was going to do this, she could have at least told me when I first arrived, instead of wasting my time.) So I walked out. I will be telling the friends that I referred to them about the sketchy policy. I'll probably also get one final cut from them, pretend to make nicey-nicey, and then leave no tip. read more

Been coming here for years. It's a solid place where you get what you pay for. My haircut is good about 75% of the time. When it's not, hey, it's only $8 and my hair grows fast. If you want to improve the success rate, you could ask the same person to cut your hair every time: the staff turnover isn't high. My average wait time is about 15 minutes, and I typically go on the busy weekend times. When the queue is long, it's fascinating to watch people regulate themselves. Lisa or whoever is in charge will step in if the customers get it wrong. read more

terrible, i asked for them to just clean up the hair around my ears and the back of my head, and they cut the hair around my ears to not even one inch long, but they left the top of my head and did nothing with it. I was so unbelievable clear that they only have to use scissors, but they used basically cut off most of my hair so now i look like a coconut head, and this isn't even the first time that this has happened, the time that i went here before, they completely cut off my bangs and the side of my head, never go here ever. read more

Hey everyone, my experience is really bad, and after reading all your reviews, I know it's definitely the worst on here. I went there cuz my friend said they have cheap haircuts and $1 tips. The first time I went in, this asian lady fucked up my haircut by shaving the strip of hair above my ears totally bald, on both ears. Let me just ask you something, why would you assume somebody wants their hair cut like that? Hair above the ears bald? Who the FUCK does their hair like that? So I go inside my car and I'm like "FUUUUUUUUUCK!!!!!!!!!", and I'm practically crying. You know that feeling where you realize the next month of your life is ruined, and thinking about it more doesn't help because you realize you're still fucked. Like Jen said, every time I looked at the"mistake", you could add horror music. Great, so there goes a month where I couldn't t get laid if I tried cuz I look like a total fag and that's how long it takes to grow back. A hot girl even pointed it out once. A hoodie wouldn't cover it up. But I'm a nice guy and I believe in people, so I went back and told this asian lady cutting my hair that I don't want the hair above my ears shaved bald. I explain it to her for like 2 minutes JUST TO MAKE SURE she got it. She even expressed that she understood by looking at me, nodding, and saying "ok". Every time I went there it was the same: I explained what NOT to do, in great detail, for two minutes, in the simplest terms, they pretend they understand, they casually speak chinese to their asian lady coworker friend while they're cutting my hair, then they shave my hair above the ears bald. I even had a vibe that while they were speaking chinese to eachother, they were talking about fucking up my hair Like "heheh this is gonna be good watch what I do to this white boy". And I know that last part sounds like a joke, but I seriously suspect that, based off good logic. I mean, it DID happen three times in the exact same order, that is, shaving the hair above my ears bald right after the casual chinese talking. All the visits together added up to like 4 months where I couldn't get laid if I wanted to cuz I had to wait for the baldness to grow back. I mean I was 20 when I went there, don't they think I care about getting laid? Anyway, I might go there some day to give them one more chance, but if they make my hair above the ears bald again, I'm just gonna flip them off. I'm gonna flip them off, not pay, and walk out. I'm serious, I've been a little pussy the other times by paying the money and not complaining, but next time I'm gonna beat some ass. Considering the price and quality, this hair salon is a great choice. I wanted a very simple haircut: a previous barber had butchered my hair and Linh fixed it perfectly. I went in the morning around 10am when there wasn't a crowd. She cut my hair with such care and took her time (taking into account there wasn't a line of people waiting for a haircut). I bring my son here to get his haircuts. Im really picky with my haircuts aaand i know this place is quick quick quick and i prefer someone who can take their time. We go to Rose and shes pretty amazing! The two stars dont apply to her, but to the whole place.They do simple cuts here & the majority are men getting their hair cut. Another reason why I dont go here for my hair is that a while back I had really long, thick hair and this lady literally ruined my hair! She litterally chopped it off and it as uneven and sloppy. She still cuts now and Im pretty sure she prefers male clients over female clients. NOT COOL! Her chair is in the corner towards the shampooo area. I went on a Saturday and the place was packed, but only waited 10 minutes. Everyone there had short hair, men and women. I have what is really a boy's cut and it took only a moment to communicate I wanted the same thing, again, only shorter. She was quick, polite, and did a great job - and for only 8 dollars!
