I went here on Friday night. They close at 3! Girls free all night. Hookah was $25. Their were no refills so when the coal died down we had to pay an additional $25. HOOKAH IS CASH ONLY. I didn't like that as The only option is using their ATM and being charged a fee by them and your bank . I thought this place was a night club so I was confused by the multiple televisions above the bar when you first walk in. Anyway we got shots of patron and went to the back and there was another bar and the dj booth! People were just standing around I was ready to go! Slowly but surely the crowd got a lot more lively . Their was a mixed crowd and a mix of music genres to go along with it. The DJ did his thing. My best friend asked them to play some reggae , negative! I'm so disappointed in the service and quality of food I experienced today. I was looking forward to enjoying some outside dining and seeing what LIT 21 had to offer. We made reservations (4 of us) and they sat us in a spot where we were right in the middle of the traffic of people coming in. We asked to be moved and they told us the other areas are reserved. Of course they are reserved we made a reservation to be here as well! My husband ordered burger sliders (medium) and they brought out well done burgers. We notified the waitress and she went to the manager about it. The manager tells her they don't make medium burger sliders. Why ask what temperature if you can't honor it? We asked to speak to the manager about the sliders and he slips up and says they are frozen. Why not say that in the first place? Why insult our intelligence about the matter?The burgers were flavorless right along with the wings. The calamari was ok. We asked for lemon for the calamari and they kept bringing out lime. I ordered quesadillas and they brought them out in a "to go" box. We ordered hookah and when it started to die down the gentlemen says you have to buy a whole new hookah (no refills). I am a local in the Central Ward in downtown Newark and in the five years I have lived here I have patronized the local businesses. This establishment has changed hands three times within that timeframe. I stopped by today to have a couple of drinks. They now have a dress code and I respect that. I am neatly dressed in jeans and a top. I have on Birkenstock sandals. One of the items unacceptable is flip flops but the note indicates that sandals are acceptable. I was denied entry by the security guard manning the door due to my "flip flops." I have been here since the current owners took over but this was my first attempt post covid. I have heard several others call this spot racist. I hesitate to say that happened today but one can only wonder. They will not get any of my money and I will be sure to inform my neighbors and other locals. It will be their loss. The picada (combo plate of grilled chicken, fried cheese, colombian chorizo, steak, pork, arepa, yuca fries, tostones and potatoes) is an appetizer with 5-7 items that could be each considered their own appetizer-- all stacked atop each other (???). I Opened a tab at the bar to have dinner and a drink by myself. When I was finished I requested the bill. The bartender swiped my card prior to giving me the bill. She handed me a credit card slip to sign and leave her a tip. I once again asked for the bill, which she reluctantly complied. The bill included 18% gratuity already. The slip that I was originally given to sign did not say "add tip". It prints as if no tip was given. If you're not careful, your likely overtipping for sub-par service. read more

This is a new location in the downtown Newark area. I attended an after hours event that was very well attended. The demographic was mixed with a young crowd from about the age of 21-30's. Music was good ranging from all of new hits from local radio stations. Safe environment, plenty of security and event parking near the venue. After eating and wanted to go in the back , told us we had to buy a bottle for that because our friend had on basketball shorts. Went on a Friday night and I have to say the dj was great! Mix of Latin music, new/old hip hop, the hits. Basically, we danced all night and the food was surprisingly very good for a bar. Ordered the sampler for 3 ppl and it was just enough. Drinks were made by hot guy with nice hair. (Didn't catch his name lol) overall... we had a great time ! I complained to the manager and he said he would follow up, 10 minutes later still no food or water. My coworker and I couldn't think where to eat for lunch. LIT 21 popped up in my head because we always drive by. We decided to check it out. It has really nice decor. The menu has a wide array of food items. We are pescatarians and had no problem selecting a dish. The nachos had black beans! Yayyyyyy!! We can never find that. Perfect portion for sharing. I went with the veggie burger. Delicious! Soft bread, fresh patty. My coworker had the mahi mahi tacos. She says they had a nice kick and would definitely try it again. My coworker is picky about her veggie burgers. She tried mine and would definitely order it for herself. Our waitress was Vanessa aka "Banessa"! We absolutely loved her. OMG!! Literally have been here several times since it's new opening and I've loved it!!! Everything from atmosphere, staff/ service, food and drinks!! First off, they have 3 sections on the first floor from sports bar, lounge/ club, to the outdoor patio with a nice view. I haven't even been to the downstairs section . My favorite might have to be the outside patio with its lights and view. The food and drinks menu was great , definitely enjoyed the food!!! Henny carside and the pineapple patron margarita!! The margarita comes in a cute little patron bottle AWESOME bartenders!! Make sure to ask for Karla and Paola, the best hands down!! Hookah is available, and they close late (I believe 3)!! I decided to patronize this establishment as it is close to moonlight cinemas drive-in theatre. Prior to departure I checked the website for dress code and since there was no mention of sweatpants I decide to wear my Nike sweatsuit given the cool temperatures outside as I anticipated outdoor dining due to covid. When I arrived I parked and approached the establishment and was immediately denied access as myself and a friend had on sweatpants which were worn in good taste. As I was talking to the security at the front door, a young lady entered the establishment with sweatpants on. When I pointed this out I was told the individual work there. I felt like they were discriminating against me and my party as the dress code on their website does not mention sweatpants. I will never patronize this establishment as they are culturally biased and discriminate against customers of color. read more
