It was empty save for a large catering order being worked on and just one staff member, so it took a bit to get our order in, and even have our presence acknowledged, the last bit being the only complaint. Let's talk food then. Our group all ordered the zinger, a fried chicken sandwich along with fries and mozz sticks. The mozz sticks are stock restaurant depot caliber. Good for their purpose. The fries, not sure if house made but damn did they deliver the bite. Crispy outside and mushy soft on the inside. Can the chicken live up to that? HELL YEAH and moar! God damn was the chicken done right. The bird should be honored to die if it goes in this restaurant's fryer. Awesome crust, juicy inside and topped with a yummy sauce, this was one of the best fried chicken sammys I've had in a long while. Sincerely, wholeheartedly recommended!

A friendly gentleman, who I presume was the owner, greeted us at the front counter. He mentioned a couple of things they were testing at the moment and while we studied the menu, he brought out some samples. We ended up loving the cherry bbq sauce and my boys both selected that for their chicken. I chose to try their maple gochujang. Caspers has a few two top tables where the boys played a game of connect 4 while we waited. About 15 minutes later our food came out, including some house made cherry limeade and peach lemonade. We took it to some nearby picnic tables and dug in. I'm happy to say, the chicken was outstanding! All three of us were very impressed. I'd like to get my hands on a bottle of the sauce! That cherry bbq would be amazing on a smoked pork butt or some ribs. The maple gochujang was sweet and mildly spicy. The crinkle fries were also crispy, hot, and delicious. We washed it all down with those homemade drinks! Home run! If you're looking to support an up and coming small business and you like fresh hot chicken, check their website and find out when they're open near you!

They were perfectly seasoned with just the right amount of vinegar and cooked to that ideal tender texture without being mushy. The fried chicken and catfish were outstanding. Both were well seasoned, incredibly crispy, and tasted like they were fried in fresh grease. Every bite was hot, fresh, and full of flavor. The baked macaroni and cheese was good, but it leaned a little more toward a Velveeta-style cheese sauce than my personal preference. Still a solid 9/10. I also ordered the Peach Passion Fruit Hennessy margarita, and it was superb. Smooth, flavorful, and easily one of the highlights of the meal. The staff was friendly and welcoming, the prices were very reasonable, and the portions were generous. If you're looking for authentic soul food in Austin, The Rolling Rooster is absolutely worth the stop. I'll definitely be back.

Would you pick a fried chicken spot for a Father's Day brunch? Probably not...but that's exactly…read morewhat my husband chose for his special day. I don't eat a lot of fried food, but sometimes you just go with the flow. Every year, we go through the same routine. Two weeks out: "Have you picked a restaurant yet?" Not yet. One week out: "Any ideas?" Still no. Then, three days before Father's Day...bam...the decision is made! Luckily, this last-minute pick didn't require reservations. This year's winner? Drum roll...The Rolling Rooster. Honestly, you've got to love the name. The Rolling Rooster is located in a strip center at the corner of Mopac and Wells Branch Parkway. It looks small from the outside, but once you step in, it opens up into a surprisingly spacious dining area. It's not fancy, but it has a warm, homey feel. We were greeted right away by Edna, who handled both hosting and serving. She was friendly and welcoming, embodying that classic Texas Southern hospitality. The atmosphere was cozy, with a smooth R&B playlist spinning in the background. As you'd expect, the restaurant focuses on Southern comfort food...think fried chicken, wings, and waffles. The standout for me was the catfish: crispy, flavorful, and coated with a slightly heavier cornmeal crust than usual, which added a nice texture. We both went with the 2 | 2 combo...two meats and two sides...choosing fried chicken wings and catfish. For sides, we had yams, fries, Mac n cheese and my favorite...grits. The food tasted like something straight out of a family kitchen...comforting, hearty, and satisfying. Portions were generous and reasonably priced, so much so that we didn't have room for dessert on the spot. We did, however, grab some banana pudding to go and I'm glad we did. It was absolutely delicious and the perfect sweet ending to the meal. The hubby and I got to enjoy some quality time while he enjoyed one of his favorite meals...a win-win! Happy Father's Day!

He genuinely cares about his customers and it shows. He even offered samples of the tamarind lemonade, brown sugar lemonade, and hibiscus tea right away. That kind of hospitality instantly sets the tone. What impressed me most was how consistently attentive and kind he was to everyone -- adults, teenagers, and even little kids were all treated with the same great level of service. You can tell he's truly customer-service oriented. It's located in a shopping center so lots of parking. The menu is large with plenty of options to choose from. I decided on a bento box because I was craving bulgogi and jap chae, and this one came with both plus kimchi and pickled sides! I also ordered the tamarind lemonade, which wasn't too sweet exactly how I like it. I honestly wasn't planning on finishing everything in my bento, but it was so delicious that I did! The bulgogi was prepared just the way I like it. My sister-in-law is half Korean, and when we visit, her mom cooks amazing homemade Korean meals for us. I was really craving that comforting, authentic flavor today and Kochu absolutely satisfied it. The portions are generous and the value for the price is fantastic. Between the incredible customer service and the delicious food, this place is an easy 5 stars for me. Wish we had something like this South of Austin. I'll definitely be coming back and highly recommend it!
