I had such a wonderful experience at Kochu Korean Eatery! From the moment I walked in, I was immediately greeted by the owner with such a warm and welcoming manner. He genuinely cares about his customers and it shows. He even offered samples of the tamarind lemonade, brown sugar lemonade, and hibiscus tea right away. That kind of hospitality instantly sets the tone. What impressed me most was how consistently attentive and kind he was to everyone -- adults, teenagers, and even little kids were all treated with the same great level of service. You can tell he's truly customer-service oriented. It's located in a shopping center so lots of parking. The menu is large with plenty of options to choose from. I decided on a bento box because I was craving bulgogi and jap chae, and this one came with both plus kimchi and pickled sides! I also ordered the tamarind lemonade, which wasn't too sweet exactly how I like it. I honestly wasn't planning on finishing everything in my bento, but it was so delicious that I did! The bulgogi was prepared just the way I like it. My sister-in-law is half Korean, and when we visit, her mom cooks amazing homemade Korean meals for us. I was really craving that comforting, authentic flavor today and Kochu absolutely satisfied it. The portions are generous and the value for the price is fantastic. Between the incredible customer service and the delicious food, this place is an easy 5 stars for me. Wish we had something like this South of Austin. Chaos meets cuisine in this strip center location. This small restaurant is a hive of activity even if you get here after the lunch rush. You can still see the flames leaping around in the kitchen and the cooks hustling. When you walk through the door, you'll be handed a 5 page menu or you can scan the QR code on a table. You have to stand in line, then you order, face the tip screen, then you are handed a number until it comes out. You'll notice they have a large selection of drinks off to the side, but they have no drink menu. They have beer, soju and even a few liquor bottles, but do they make mixed drinks? In other words, the drink equation here is a mystery (we settled for water). I ordered the beef Bulgogi plate and the wife got the bibombok bowl. For the money, you cannot beat the quality of the freshly prepared food. If you decide on the wings here, you'll notice they are quite popular, but the fries are nothing unique. Food: a little hole in the wall spot for Korean food, especially a good jjajangmyun! I've had the jjajang myun here twice and I think it's better than Paik's noodles at Hmart imo. The yukgejang was good too and the Korean style fried wings are good as well. Service: it is owned by Koreans and they are attentive and friendly! This was a great Korean restaurant. There was a lot of variety with the bento box I got and it was a very filling lunch. Overall the atmosphere is upbeat and lively and I loved all the artwork at the location. It has an almost open kitchen concept so you know the cooks are hard at work making your order. Like more meat and vegetables. We also got the kimchi fries, which were good but I didn't care too much for. And the k-wings, which I liked a lot! The sauce was delicious, the chicken was crispy, and the inside was not too dry. I will say it was more expensive than I expected. The base price isn't the worst, but I was expecting more meat. And then if you want extra of anything, there's a surcharge. Even for sauces! And adding meat is like an additional $4/5. Very industrial interior with order first and then sit down and eat. We got the Korean fried chicken and jjajangmyeon. Had those cravings for some Korean Fried Chicken, and saw that this place was very close to the domain area with high ratings. Came on in and was pleasantly surprised. Atmosphere: Modern korean stop design, complete with TVs playing Kpop and memorabilia. Food: Definitely will comeback for the fried chicken. Meaty and just the right amount of breading along with the combination of yangyeum (like a sweet korean chili sauce), made for a delectable treat that almost filled me. Its a solid 3.5- This is a newer Korean spot off Burnet with a counter service style. Went in and it was pretty straightforward- you order at the counter and they drop off your food at your table. Its no frills and very casual. I got the Jajangmyeon and the Bulgogi platter. Flavor wise it was good, i wished the jajangmyeon was a bit more flavorful as it bordered on bland. The pork helped punch it up a bit. The bulgogi was solid though, and with the fried rice it was good. My only issue with the proteins was the price, for galbi and bulgogi they were getting close to full service Korean restaurant prices. If you're charging premium, maybe offer a bit more service. Just my two cents. Otherwise it's a decent fast casual korean place if you're in a hurry. read more

Came to Kochu on a colder evening this Winter and was well greeted and given drink samples to try. Great first impression! Parking was plentiful as well, so that's always a plus. We ordered the Birria shin ramen, the spicy pork box, and original wings to share between the two of us. Wings were good, ramen hit the spot and the japchae that came with the box was also good. Overall, it's definitely fusion comfort food, which is good in a pinch, but not at the very top of our list. Well done Kochu, well done. This is the spot yall!! Kochu offers an exciting menu of Korean dishes and they do it right. First off, the service here was outstanding. The owner (in assuming who it was that was helping us out) recommended so many dishes and gave a break down of every plate. When I started asking how their kimchi was made I think he knew right away that we were seasoned veterans of Korean cuisines haha. The spot is sort of hidden in a shopping center but they do stick out with their lighting and ambience. All the Korean decor was amazing and really brings the place out. The food. Wow. Simply a 5/5. The bulgogi bowl and the kimchi fried rice were top notch! I'd say they are pretty high on the list of great Korean cuisines in the Austin area. Minus one star, because $20 is expensive for a bulgogi plate. For $20, I'm used to eating kalbi or receiving 10 banchans. Their side salad dressing was just OK. I wasn't super hungry so I just ordered the kimchi fries, but I thought they were decent. I always worry the fries will get soggy with all the toppings, but these were pretty crispy still. A new contender in the Austin Korean fried chicken market! Kochu has crazy good wings for a very reasonable price. They're 8 for roughly $10, which is very solid considering places like bbq chicken sell for much more. The wings are smaller than those at hi wings but the flavor is definitely there. We got the yangyeom and the honey teriyaki and it was delicious. We also got the beef bulgogi bowl, which was very good but not spectacular compared to some other places. Still a good portion and very yummy. The owners are super nice, the staff is very sweet, and the service overall is amazing! fairly new korean place but not one of my favorites. i found the portions of meat to be on the lesser side compared to the higher prices, especially for the bowls. i was overall disappointed in the flavor of the meat as it wasn't very flavorful, making the small portion of meat not yummy. i enjoyed the flavor of the wings but again thought was very small sized. i tried the kimchi fries and was sad by the lack of meat. service was very friendly and the restaurant was very clean! overall, wouldn't come recommend if looking for good korean food. read more

I ordered a jajangmyung (sp?) with pork belly and the honey sriracha chicken wings. Love the metal water cups as well. Brings me back to my childhood and korean restaurants back in the day. My kids got the bulgogi bowls with an egg. Portion sizes were good, and everyone enjoyed their meals. I thought the chicken wings were one of the highlights and I usually don't like wet wings. I ordered takeout from Kochu, and everything was packaged super well and came very quickly! Korean food is almost always on the pricier side, so expect to spend $45+ on two entrees. Their kimchi is really good and actually pretty spicy. I got their bulgogi rice plate. Japchae, salad, and bulgogi were all delicious.
