Best cafe I've been to. Cheap prices and high quality homemade food!!!! Get there early !!!

Definitely a small town breakfast joint hidden away in the corner. My brother and I stopped for breakfast and why I will say was the best thing is the Carmel cinnamon roll! So good I ended up having the last one and more than one person asked me if they could have it. One lady even said she would lick the plate if she knew me better haha no joke I would agree with her if I was in her shoes wanting this and I knew she eat the last one. Giving it 4 stars because well honestly it's just a small town cafe nothing special except for the rolls and the friendly staff. read more

This restaurant is a landmark for Bismarck; I visit every time I come home for Christmas, but I remember coming her since I was a little girl. I ordered the special of the day, which was polish sausage and kraut, mashed potatoes, and green beans. It came with the choice of soup or salad at a very reasonable price of 7.99. The sausage was Moist and flavorful. The kraut also had a stronger flavor than other kraut I've tried, and held up well against the sausage. The green beans were obviously canned, but what can you expect from a diner. The mashed potatoes were so smooth, loved every bite. The rest of my dining party were also impressed with the tuna sandwich stacked high in a club, ribs, fleishkeuchle (German fries bread with meat on the inside!), and who can forget knoephla soup, served on Mondays and Wednesdays. If I weren't gluten free, I would've dived into a bowl and licked it clean! This is a North Dakota tradition. The service was friendly and speedy. It's fun just to people watch and see the patrons who come back every day. P.S. Request a caramel roll to take home for breakfast the next morning! read more

I've heard nothing but good things about this place so I decided to pay it a visit! German food is not my thing at all, and I guess I should have taken that into consideration before eating here. I ended up ordering a basic breakfast with bacon, eggs, hash browns, and toast. It tasted good, but you can't really go wrong with any of those things. I don't like caramel or cinnamon rolls either, so this really isn't the place for me! But all in all the service was great, and I enjoyed my meal. The only reason I am giving it three stars is because the cashier ended up charging me $200 instead of $20 on accident. She caught it right away, but didn't really apologize...and getting it reversed was a real pain. I felt like the owner didn't really care if it got reversed either way, and never apologized either. I might come back for lunch sometime! read more

The name certainly says it all-- "little." This place is small, but it's spot on when it comes to the food. I went with the standard American breakfast with scrambled eggs, toast and hash browns. Nothing fancy, but it came out fast and filled me up. Lots of regulars bequeathing a small town diner experience to other friends and family. It's small, but they turn the tables over fairly quickly. Visiting Bismark for the first time, I was looking for some local fare and found the Little Cottage on Yelp. Found what I was looking for. Most of the customers at 6 am were local regulars. Place has a small town / home cooked food atmosphere. I had eggs French toast and sausage. Everything was excellent. The sausage wasn't like anything I ever had before. Have been a little underwhelmed the last few times I've dropped in for a bite but it's a local joint that I'll keep giving a shot. It's a little place that's always busy that serves your basic dinner fair. I'm usually headed there for a good hearty breakfast. Last meal was a ham and cheese omelette, hashbrowns and toast. I was hoping that this place would be better, considering all the yelp reviews I had read. The seating is definitely cramped and if you don't get there fairly early, you'll have to wait. Our server was very nice and very good at her job. I ordered one of the omelets with sausage and toast. The omelet was pretty good but the sausage was very bland other than having a bit of a salt and pepper flavor. The coffee isn't gourmet but it also doesn't taste bitter or burnt from sitting on a burner for hours. I was originally going to order the biscuits with gravy, but they only serve brown gravy, not sausage gravy, with their biscuits. I've never seen a breakfast menu with brown gravy and biscuits before...ever. I don't know if it's a North Dakota thing or a Bismarck thing. Needless to say, I opted for the omelet instead. Overall the food isn't bad, it's just not great. I probably will never go back to eat there again, but I can say that I have eaten there now. read more

I stopped in here for dinner while in town for work just before 6pm. Within 30 mins the place was packed. The service was great. The food was very good. Even with the crowd I didn't have to wait long at all for my food. I would definitely recommend giving them a try. read more

This is simply THE BEST breakfast that can be done in Bismarck. Everything is fresher, tastier, and mo betta. The greasy spoon atmosphere really has that small town diner appeal. Loved the atmosphere - it felt like I was back in the 70's watching Alice. Food was standard diner fare, with margarine used instead of butter, American cheese instead of cheddar... The heartbreaking news was that the cherry pie was of poor quality. It seemed like a potential dessert bonanza with their choices, but I walked away disappointed. read more

How this place got such good reviews is beyond me... Dirty, cramped, and the rudest and least engaging server ever. She literally threw my food on the table when it came out. Poured me coffee with the grinds in it like sand. When I asked for silverware she literally threw the napkin covered silverware IN MY FOOD. What a hole. Also the food was pretty terrible... I got eggs sausage and a pancake. This was easily the worst pancake I've ever eaten. It wasn't cooked all the way through so it was completely runny inside. The eggs had eggshells in them and the sausage was un edible. The only thing at the table worth eating was the hash browns. All together this place sucked. I would never go back. I think for a good North Dakota experience this little homey joint is a must stop. If you are in the Bismarck area I would say stop for sure. One comment that I have to make is that this place is not really a German food place. Some of the local recipes like fleischkuechle and knefla soup have a German/Scandinavian twist due to the ethic makeup of people in North Dakota but this place is not a specific German restaurant. That being said that is exactly what I had, fleischkuechle and knefla soup which were amazing. They are truly an ND staple. They wait staff is amazingly friendly and sound just like you would think North Dakotans would sound. Overall an amazing place. read more

Came here on several coworkers recommendation. On the exterior the diner is not much to look at, but take the steps up into the diner you enter a time capsule in the shape of a diner. The layout is not unlike a dinning car on a train. The food here is local Midwest cuisine and diner food. Service is rapid and on point. My coffee cup never sat below half empty. The sour cream and chive fries are absolutely amazing... Was sad that they ran out of the scotcharoo cookies... I'll just have to come back next time. read more

The service is good, the cafe is clean, and the food is far above what you'd expect for the price. As the name says, the place is small. It's tiny, but the atmosphere is old style cafe with glasses of ice water and curtains on the windows. After my first experience there I was charmed, and would go back and recommend it to my friends. read more
