This was my second time grabbing takeout from Little India, and I was just as pleased as before. They're located in a strip of stores, right over the Granby line into Simsbury. The inside is kept clean, and the staff has always been pleasant. My order of garlic naan was quite large, with stray hunks of garlic clove. Delicious. For my entree, I decided to try the mixed vindaloo. I am typically disappointed when I order something containing a delicate meat such as chicken breast. This wasn't the case at Little India. I can't describe the chicken as anything but perfect. It was tender and moist. The lamb was cooked just as well. Little India has done something that most restaurants cannot. Congratulations. The sauce in my vindaloo was crazy aromatic, and full of so many different flavors. They give you the choice of mild, medium, and hot. I went with medium, which gave me a nice, slow burn. Also, they included rice. I expect it with an entree, and am sadly letdown by a lot of other places. They also included chips (I'm not sure what they're actually called) and a variety of sauces (again, no clue what they're called). I have been pleased with both of my experiences with Little India. A little dash of Bollywood in rural Connecticut! While on a brief getaway in the area my husband and I were struck by all the five stars, so we tried it. The gracious owner attentively served us delectable somosas, mint nan, and lamb boti whose cream tomato sauce was unforgettable. The chef trained around the world, including Boston, and his artistry shows it. Loved the saris and fabric prints of the goddess Krishna on the walls. Will come here again when next in town! A rare and precious gem. Great for a romantic dinner or bring family and friends. Worth a special trip to this lovely corner of the state. (We stay in the 1820 House and love it!) read more

Bad service and worse food. We came to try little India with a groupon type coupon. The food was below average. When we did not want to pack up the leftovers, the server asked if we liked it, and when we said it was not to our taste she interegated why not and seemed angry. She said no one else complained. Maybe not, but only 3 other tables were occupied at 7 pm on a Saturday night. And to top it off, she added an 18% tip (even on the tax), and there were only 2 of us!! Bathroom note: the ladies room was cluttered (magazines on a ledge behind the toilet, no paper towels in the dispensor, but strewn on top of the magazines, unheated, and dingy. read more

Went here for dinner last nite the first time...was delicious and I'll be back :-) ..we got a bread basket appetizer, which included a potato pea bread that was sooo good. Also the vegetable samosa--really good! We shared a palek paneer entree, which came with jasmine rice--we asked for medium heat and it was spot on ..there was lots of variety to choose from! Did not find one good thing about this place. Right from stale food, horrible taste, long wait times for Naan, stinking restrooms all the way to attitude. When brought up to the owner/cook, his approach was this is the best food. Barely had we had a handful of bites we decided to leave and he get the cheque! Not looking for a comp but when the customer is clearly not happy and leaving without eating, asking for money is the last thing that I would have thought off. At any rate, this was a one off trip to this place but I would like to bring this to the attention of others planning a trip to this place. Avoid it as there are other Indian places close by. Every time we eat here we say that we will never eat here again, but it's the only Indian restaurant that is close to us and we keep trying like idiots hoping THIS time will be the time we leave happy. Second visit was a gem. Passed on the lunch buffet this visit and ordered the bread basket (no butter), Vegetable Vindaloo (my way), Chicken Saag (no cream, no butter), Curry Chicken, Chicken Tikka. All as lunch portions and all with specific requests which were happily accommodated and executed perfectly. Lunch "portions" are well priced and plentiful. Basically, a custom buffet which I plan to continue doing. Food, Service, Eagerness To Please, and Quality are excellent. I am beginning to think these sites are rigged as I don't see my last review for this place, lol. I do not mean to offend, but my wife and I have eaten Indian food on 3 continents and many countries....including India....and this restaurant does not rank anywhere near the best I've been to. Those who say this is great Indian food have, unfortunately, apparently not tasted great Indian food. The husband and wife team who run the place are a mixed bag. the husband is friendly and welcoming. The wife is dour and very offputting. We've given this place multiple tries (as we love Indian and hate having to travel to the BEST Indian in the area up in West Springfield) both the lunch buffet and regular a la carte service there. The speed of service is acceptable. Décor is functional, but nothing special The lunch buffet is lackluster, with few appetizers on hand. Not always the warmest food. Nothing that I have had particularly stands out, nothing has been particularly bad...its all just "meh" and bland with sauces tending to be too runny. One thing I have complained about twice there is a hygiene issue that is really the clincher that has made me decide never to return and makes me concerned about cleanliness in general. The restaurant is BYOB. So I brought beer and was given a frosty mug. I poured the beer into the frosty mug....put said mug to my mouth and detected a strange odor. As the frost melted, the stench got worse and tainted the beer with the taste of decay Apparently they keep the beer mugs in the same fridge that has held rotten seafood or old meat that hasn't been cleaned out in ages. Disgusting. It was the frost itself that was the source of the stench as a second mug confirmed. I complained, of course. The next time I went back, I had the same issue...complained again. This food is good. However, I have gotten take out at least 30 times and tonight, the first time I had it delivered, they didnt honor the mistake in my order. The website clearly mixed up my order, but the restaurant would not bring me the correct order. And, they were super fresh about it. This season we had over a dozen meals catered for our post game team meals (Simsbury Rugby) and Little India's meal was one of the favorites. I received the most positive feedback about their meal. I just got takeout from here for the first time and I couldn't believe how much I enjoyed the food. The food was freshly made and the chicken was not over cooked. Don't let the giant black velvety looking paintings fool you - they cook some good stuff here! The pakora were excellent and non greasy which is key - they came with some excellent dips as well. Oh dear, this was awful. I grew up in Asia and Indian food is my favorite! This place was just terrible. The naan, usually the highlight of my meal, was a disaster. The Veggie samosas were very bland, the crust was the best part. The rice was overcooked and mushy. Will find another place soon. Ordered Chicken Korma & Chicken Tika Masala. I've been here dozens of times with my dad and we always enjoy it. Pretty laid-back atmosphere, and the food is pretty traditional but Done well. Their rice is pretty much perfect; some of the best I've ever had. My favorite is a seafood dish called mean moile. read more

I seek out small family restaurants, like this, where they care about their food, because I don't like eating in chains; chain food is not fresh, and management is usually harassing the staff. New India is the only true Indian food place in Simsbury...and is very good, too. We showed up on a Sunday at 12.30 (right after the annual Simsbury Airport Fly-In) for lunch, and were suprised to find the restaurant empty. Only the chef and a hostess were within, but they seated us normally anyway. We opted for the buffet, which is very reasonable at $8.95/person (also, kids 6+ are $5.95 and under 6 eats free). The buffet includes salad, dips for the popodom, mains, a few cold appetizers, rice and dessert. I was very fond of the Chicken Tikka Masala and a yellow curry of which I can't remember its name. Both weren't very warm, but good food is supposed to taste good cold, right? Rice was plain with few herbs, and some crispy, red noodle-like things. Dessert was rice pudding and the dough balls in syrup; both a great end to a fantastic meal. The hostess was very attentive without being pushy and kept our water glasses filled. Pretty darn close to my favorite Indian, Shalimar, in Sunnyvale, California and this in Simsbury, opposite India on the globe! I will definetly be back!!! read more

Went there for a Sunday brunch.. the place was empty and that was a sign for things to follow.. all the food we tried were old except naan. Perhaps days old because it tasted bad.. can't understand many of the reviews here stating the food is good. May be that was a while ago or they just don't realize how bad Indian food tastes. read more
