I would give it a 3 for suburban-ish (is there any other kind in the suburbs) good food. Negative 5 stars for attitude and delivery timeliness. In the future if I care I'll go pick up, perhaps (the reviews of pickup are terrible too), but really the folks at the restaurant I spoke with multiple times could care less about customer service and being about 45 minutes late so they're probably all like that. I have been coming here for years but today was definitely my last day. I came a little early not realizing they weren't open yet (it's Sunday and they open a bit later). After all, their door was open and the guy in the front didn't say anything. A simple "I'm sorry but we are not open just yet" from the guy who let me in would have been fine, but no. As I approached the rear the second guy did say something, and I noticed a bit of an attitude, but decided to just let it go. I apologized and left and then came back about 20 min later when they were open. Well, for some reason the man had clearly taken the whole thing very personally and was offended to see me. He made sure I knew it too. After several rude comments he refused to serve me and told me to go to Duncan donuts instead. It was upsetting to think of all the money I spent there over the years only to have it end this way. Furthermore, I went there often enough I know he recognized me, because I recognized him! In fact, only about a week or so ago we saw each other on the sidewalk and did the whole "polite head-nod/momentary eye-contact" thing, so this is how they treat their "regulars". And I always tipped well, even though it's a buffet. It's their loss. I never went there because the service was good, it never was, which, was why I stuck to the buffet. The food was at least average (to a white guy) and the location couldn't be more convenient for me because I live there on the block. It was great for those occasions when I just didn't feel like doing dishes or anything. This strip of Moody St is very competitive for restaurants and there is constant turn-over. So hopefully there will be a new (better) Indian place soon enough. It is also worth noting that I never saw any actual Indians eating there, so maybe they know something (food wise) that we don't. After trying both, I can say that the food here was pretty disappointing; watery and flavorless. The naan was stale too. We met our younger daughter and her husband for dinner last night, and our experience this time around wasn't the greatest. The waiter repeated our order, but he kept adding an extra order of Naan,and it took us 3 min to explain we wanted JUST whole wheat naan and potato naan. The place wasn't too busy, but service wasn't so good. The samosas came out after 15 minutes. We waited and waited and did I say waited for the soup but couldn't catch the eye of our waiter (ha! appropriate title: WAITER). The waiter came by and we told him to cancel the soup order and he didn't know what we were saying. We asked to have another waiter who could understand English come by, and after 5 minutes, another waiter brought ONE of the soups. When someone actually understood what we were saying, we canceled the other soup. The meal was great (lamb curry, lamb with mango sauce, chicken biryani, and sag paneer) as usual, but the service left a bad taste in our mouths. I think we'll try someplace else the next time we want to satisfy our craving for Indian food. There are plenty of other good places on Moody Street. read more

The atmosphere in Little India is so much better than the other places (though the tacky "fountain" at Bad Mother India gives them a run for their money). Take it from a brown boy: THIS IS GOOD STUFF I came here looking to pig out on Indian buffet during their weekday lunch. Absolutely amazing. They had all the essentials: tandoori chicken (punjabi style), chicken tikka masala, THE BEST saag paneer you've ever had, chole, aloo hari, idli (try getting this elsewhere), cloud fluffy basmati rice, etc. They had gulab jamun and ras malai for dessert. Decor was quite good: friendly staff (reminds me of uncles at indian parties). Customer service is extremely important as a small business and these guys welcome you like family. THE ONLY THING I WOULD ADD: the food could be a TAD spicier, but again, I remember that they gotta lean a bit conservative as to not scare away customers. However for dinners, you can simply request to make it authentically spicy (I asked them). Otherwise, this is an awesome place. What's with the bad reviews? Anyway. Dropped in around 9:30pm in July 2014, late for dinner. It's nice that it's open late for a suburban restaurant. I was served rather fast -- older gentleman seated us promptly (as soon as we walked in), and gave us menus; gave us about 3-4 minutes and took our orders. Food was pretty quickly delivered. Quite tasty food -- well balanced with spices, not excessively buttery and well nuanced. Good price point too. Was clean, decor was good. Good size portions (still took some home with 2 entrees for my wife and myself). Good chutneys. I've been to quite a few Indian places in Cambridge, Somerville, Arlington, Burlington, Quincy, Roslindale, Dorchester, Weymouth ... this was good -- definitely in the top half, probably in the top quarter. We ordered the aloo chaat for appetizer, naan, shahi paneer and lamb vindaloo for main courses. The aloo chaat was pretty good but would've been better w more chickpeas and less potatoes. 2.5 stars. We were not super impressed with the lunch buffet here. The selection was pretty decent (pakora, naan, chicken tikka masala, tandoori chicken, gobi matar, saag paneer, rice, and a couple of other things). However, neither my boyfriend nor I thought the food was that impressive. Things were cold at times, and the naan basket was empty for a good portion of our meal, although near the end some steaming hot naan arrived. The food didn't taste too great either - the saag paneer and tandoori chicken were solid, but the chicken tikka masala was really bland and watery and the pakora and naan were fairly mediocre. Nothing I tried was terribly spicy, which might be nice for someone who's not really a big fan of Indian food, but just came across as flavorless to us. My boyfriend managed to grab one spicy dish (it must have been the one beef dish I skipped) but other than that everything seemed under-spiced. It's really rare for my boyfriend to meet an unlimited quantity of food he doesn't like (seriously, the boy likes Old Country Buffet) but he agreed with me that this place was pretty "meh' and not worth coming back to. The price was pretty good ($10 a person including tax), but not such a great deal as to make up for the mediocre food quality. Service was pretty abmismal as well. This is by far my favorite Indian restaurant in the greater Boston area. It's well-decorated and cozy without ever making you feel piled in on top of other diners. The waiters are very wise in how they seat diners, but even when I've been there when the restaurant's full, it still feels cozy and pleasant. They have actual candles in sconces on the wall that they light in the evening that really help to set the tone. They have an extensive vegetarian section on their menu, both in appetizers and entrees. The complementary crackers and sauces (I don't know what the Indian word is for it) are always served promptly and are delicious. The naan is wonderful and plentiful. You can almost make a meal simply from an order of naan. Once it was a bit overdone, but that is far from the norm. My favorite entree is definitely the malai kofta aka "vegetable balls." Just the right blend of spicy and sweet for my taste. Top it all off with perfectly blended mango lassis, and you have my favorite meal out. Further the waitstaff are always friendly, smiling, and attentive without being intrusive. The prices are reasonable. You can get a full meal of appetizer, entree, naan, and drink for around $20 a person. read more
