WOW, a real Italian restaurant in Abilene( a pizza place isn't an Italian restaurant.) Abilene's Little Italy's menu has 13 desserts listed and I am sure I will enjoy my next twelve meals as much as my first lunch. The service is typical of Abilene and west Texas. The salad bar will leave you wanting. My meal consisted of fried ravioli(cheese), Manicotti with a glass of Lambrusco, and concluded with a cannoli. I had one of the veal dishes. The edge of both pieces had nerves in it and was inedible. If I hadn't waited so long, I would have sent it back. Other than that, the dish had good flavor, although there wasn't much meat to begin on a large bed of pasta. The minestrone soup had good flavor but the portion was small and there wasn't hardly anything any veggies or pasta in it. The service was also mediocre and slow. This place was VERY average. Mind you it was 10:00 on Saturday night. But for this Dallas girl I was quite disappointed. The salad was watery and had few topping options. My lasagna was mainly tasteless cheese with little sauce or noodles. My husbands spaghetti was also watery and tasted like tomato soup with thin noodles. The bread rolls were hard as rocks and tasteless. The only one who enjoyed her meal was my daughter. She had fettuccine alfredo. I will not be returning. The place was welcoming when I walked in. My first impression was the waiter looked like he was ready to go the bar and a not server at restraunt. The salad dressing I had was iltalian and it was clumpy and not the good. The baked tortalini I had is what helped this place. I wanted to try the spomoni cheesecake I scene from Mark G.'s review but it is only available once and awhile, so I resorted to try the Cappacino fudge cheesecake. It was good. Super hit or miss with this place , sometimes I get great food and other times it can be dismal. Decided to try something new for takeout and ordered the "stuffed" mushrooms - supposed to be filled with cheese and spinach cooked in Alfredo, unfortunately all they sent me were a handful of mushrooms swimming in Alfredo sauce (nothing green even hinting that there is spinach and definitely no cheese) - very disappointed. We tried this place for the first time and we are definitely going to return for more! The place was pleasant and there was a gentleman playing guitar. Our server Lance was very interactive, prompt, and our kids loved all of his entertaining tricks and antics. It really was the most wonderful dining experience we have enjoyed! Based on a tip from a local we came here for dinner the other night with a friend. We were greeted warmly and sat in a corner booth. Once we were given the drink menu I noticed not only do they serve full bottles of wine, but also 1/2 and full liters of house vino! The 1/2 was about $10 and at least four glasses worth. We tried the merlot and it was wonderful. I ordered the eggplant parmesan that came with a trip to the salad bad and bread. For an appetizer we decided to try the "Italian nachos" which were tortilla chips topped with an alfredo type sauce and some chopped up onions, tomatoes, and herbs. Very good but a tad small for the $6 price tag. The salad bar had little option but what it lacked in choice was made up for in quality. At the end there is a ranch type dressing, a mysterious red, and regular oil and vinegar. I ventured into the no named red and was in for a treat. It reminded me of a catalina, but very light and fresh. Worth going back for alone. The bread rolls had their own flavor and came with an olive oil and seasoning dipping plate. When our meals came out the table was near full of all the previous plates and we had to make room! I could tell my food was cooked right then and brought out because the plate wasn't hot at all (like some you get after sitting under the heat lamps for awhile) so that already was appreciated. Sadly I was almost stuffed from the wine, bread, salad, and nachos that I could only get down about 1/4 of my plate before asking for a box. No worries, the next day I had leftovers that were just as delicious heated up. We will have to make a trip back before leaving Abilene no doubt. 5/5 stars Little Italy! read more

We had a lovely experience yesterday for lunch. We were a table of 11 and we had fast and friendly service. We ordered, each had a trip to the salad bar, received our food, ate it leisurely, and had time to chat and take pictures, all within one hour! I was pleasantly surprised that we had such a quick dining experience that felt like we had lingered forever, yet was actually very fast without feeling rushed. I have loved this place ever since I was a little girl. The first time I ate here I remember it being a large family gathering with my father's side of the family. I was a young girl with a picky appetite; only having a love for things such as mac n' cheese and chicken strips (which honestly I still love but make myself). The food was rather different for me seeing as my Italian experience to that point was composed of Olive Garden and microwavable meals. I loved the food I had here. Ever since that time I have come and the first dates with my now husband were even experienced here. This place among very few others helped light to fire that fueled my love of cooking and specifically of Italian food. Still young and have much to experience in life I come here. The service has always been good and I have never had a bad experience in the slightest. A lot of memories have been made in this little restaurant that oddly feels like home at times. read more

If you feel like Italian, but don't want the standard Olive Garden, this is an excellent choice. Had the Toasted Ravioli as an appetizer which was excellent. My favorite restaurant in Abilene by a mile. The service is extraordinary - the owner Luigi is the most personable man on the planet, and ensures you have an unbeatable experience, as is the waitstaff (thanks Darlene, you are awesome!). They always treat us like family. The food was extraordinary - we're vegetarians and the kitchen mixed up a version of the Chicken Murphy with artichoke hearts and various other vegetables that I'd say is my favorite Italian meal on Earth. Delicious lambrusco, too. Live music on Fridays (or it was when we were there last) and cozy, romantic booths for two. I couldn't more highly recommend a restaurant. read more

I had never given this place much thought until i saw a few yelp reviews and decided to try it. My mom and I are glad we did. We loved that it was local too. The bread was amazing as was the dipping sauce. The lunch specials are around $7 and come with a small salad bar, tea and meal. I got the ziti in pink sauce and my mom got the chicken fettucini alfredo. We were happy with our choices. Next time I would like to try the spaghetti or strombolli. We chose Little Italy over The Olive Garden this week. We've eaten there before and the service was excellent. The service is still good, but the experience as a whole left us wanting. First, we were a group of two families with kids. They only have one large table big enough for a large group and it was reserved. So we were squished into a large round table that didn't really fit the group. Next, the wives ordered the drink special which sounded great but was weak and tasteless. When my Caesar salad came out it was covered in about a pound of Parmesan cheese and was inedible. The food was good but overpriced for what it was. Overall, I wouldn't call this place "bad" but it certainly isn't "good" either. read more

Service was friendly. The decor is somewhat outdated, but charming. The ambiance was truly memorable, as there was a live musician adeptly playing a string instrument for the duration of our visit. Let me preface this by saying I am an Italian Food Snob. The rolls were spectacular. Soft and mild and buttery. The Bruschetta was a disaster. We sent it back and the owner promptly inquired as to why we were displeased. (Did I mention I was Italian Food Snob) I explained the spread tasted like salsa with an overabundance of onion. He apologized. Minutes later, he delivered our meals. Chicken Caciofi and Veal Parmigiana. He redeemed his restaurant with the chicken. It was delightful. Walking in there were two servers, and three tables were taken. I waited about 5 minutes to be seated. I was seated at a booth. The waiter came back with drinks, took orders, and left bread and oil. I reached for my napkin when I realized the table was covered with carpenter ants. I moved to the next table and notified the waiter who just shook his head. I ordered the baked ziti with pink sauce and creamy mushroom soup. I adored the soup which is why I am giving this restaurant a second star. The ziti was large penne noodles covered in mozzarella in the center of the dish, and instead of pink sauce I received marinara on the bottom of the dish. The sauce was mediocre. I had spaghetti and meat sauce, which was decent but nothing to write home about. This place is decent, if you're in the area and looking for a quick stopover, but it's not someplace I would seek out and purposefully go to. They had a small dessert selection, but nobody tried it. Wine by the glass consisted of the basic choices without brand names, "Merlot, cab, Chardonnay, etc." The selection was slightly larger if you wanted to purchase a bottle, and you could pick a specific brand. It's located in a small strip center, behind a gas station. Again, decent enough if you're looking for a quick stop for dinner, but not a place I would necessarily go to again. read more

It tasted like the lowest quality canned clams one could fond had been warmed and dumped on top. There was even a piece of shell on my dish.
