It will take some time to get your food if you get the fried chicken but it is worth it! It's cooked fresh to order. Hubby ordered the ox tail special with mash potatoes, green beans, mac and cheese. Daughter ordered four piece fried chicken with sweet potatoes, and I ordered the three piece fried chicken with greens. Some of our sides were an upcharge but it was worth it. Everything was delicious, we shared our sides. Hubby ordered banana pudding and finished it before we got out of the bathroom! The bathrooms are unisex and so clean and cute! Overall we really enjoyed our meal and had leftovers.

The food did take about 30 minutes to come out, which was a bit longer than expected. Overall, I'd rate the food a 3.9 out of 5;it was good, but not quite exceptional. One thing to note is that there's a 2% fee added for dining in, and some of the menu prices felt a bit on the higher side. That said, it was still a decent experience overall and worth trying if you're in the area.

Before our trip, one of my fraternity brothers told me that if I wanted some of the best Southern soul food in Savannah, I had to visit Mrs. Wilkes. He also warned me that there would be a long wait. Let me just say--he was absolutely right on both counts! We arrived at the restaurant and stood in line outside in the rain. We didn't get seated until 1:00 PM. Normally, I would not wait that long for a meal, but for the record, and I can't believe I'm saying this--it was worth every minute of the wait. The experience was unlike any restaurant I've ever visited. My wife and I were seated at a large table with approximately eight other people whom we had never met. Yet within minutes, it felt like we were dining with family. The atmosphere was warm, welcoming, and filled with genuine Southern hospitality. The food was simply outstanding. Every traditional Southern dish you can imagine was brought to the table and passed family-style from person to person. The home-cooked flavors reminded me of the meals many of us grew up enjoying. Everything was delicious, and the desserts were just as impressive. What made the experience even more special was the sense of community. People of different backgrounds and races were dining together, sharing food, conversation, and fellowship. The staff worked together seamlessly and went out of their way to make every guest feel welcome. While we waited in line, a gracious lady shared the history of the restaurant and the legacy of Mrs. Wilkes herself. The staff even provided umbrellas to guests who didn't have one--including me--which was a thoughtful gesture that spoke volumes about their commitment to customer service. From the food, to the hospitality, to the rich history and unique family-style dining experience, Mrs. Wilkes Dining Room exceeded every expectation. If you're visiting Savannah, this is not just a meal--it's an experience. I proudly give Mrs. Wilkes Dining Room a 5 out of 5-star rating and highly recommend it to anyone visiting Savannah.

Where to begin. There was hype of this restaurant and it lived up to it all!…read moreIt is a beautiful home that is a restaurant along a street with old homes and trees lining and overhanging the road. The hospitality is off the charts. You need to come early at least a half hour as the line quickly grows. You sit and eat family style. The host will assign you to your table with others to fill it up. 8 to a table. There is sweet tea waiting for you and dish after dish of goodness! Then they bring out the fried chicken on platters. 21 different bowls of southern dishes- okra, rutabagas, greens, beans, corn, biscuits and corn bread.... Oh my there was a lot. You will not go hungry as the staff are near each table and bringing refills of items needed. Then when you've had your fill, they bring by peach cobbler with vanilla ice cream on top and/or banana pudding! They take cash or check only. They thankfully had an ATM inside. But the man at the cash register said we could leave and go to our own bank if we wanted and come back to pay!! That wouldn't happen at very many places. Southern hospitality, great food, memories- it is all here. Don't miss this place when you come to Savannah!!

We were seated in the best little nook on the lower level, just off the bar. We could hear the live music trickle in as we enjoyed dinner. The food was amazing, from start to finish. The drinks were some of the best we've ever had. We had the best service from the bartender at the bar while we waited for our table to be ready to our server - who was full of recommendations and suggestions. We had a little bit of everything, sharing the crab cakes, mac and cheese poppers, she crab soup, spring rolls. For our main course, we had the salmon and the pork tenderloin. Everything was full of flavor and perfectly seasoned. We wish we would have had room for dessert, but our dinner was too filling. This is the perfect place and we will be back!

Service from Sara was impeccable. She was very personable, knowledgeable & professional. We had appetizer of seafood egg rolls. Very yummy with a remoulade sauce. I had seafood fettuccine. It was very tasty but a little skimpy on the seafood. It had 4 small shrimp & 3 good sized scallops. Hubby had the special of blue crab stuffed grouper with ricotta & bread crumbs with lemon berre blanc sauce. It was over mashed potatoes & green beans. The best part of the meal was the biscuits they brought before dinner. I've never had any better. I ordered an extra one, delicious. Whenever in Savannah it's a great experience.

Was a bit deceived with the name, lol…read more I'm Haitian and was hoping it was Haitian food, but this Caribbean/Southern spot hits the spot. The staff here is so sweet! They really help with making decisions and even offer samples if you're indecisive(like me). They wear masks when packaging food and have an outdoor seating area. Both times I got my food to go, and was in and out pretty quickly. The homemade tropical punch is so good! If ordering a "made to order" menu item, expect to wait about 15 minutes. The curry shrimp is one of those items and I was not disappointed. My friend also got curry goat and the pork chop and both were SO GOOD! As always, I do wish they have more meat, but this is something I'm used to from Caribbean restaurants. BUT- they have all things on the menu when I went in, something that doesn't always happen at the Caribbean joints I'm used to. This is the second Caribbean spot I've tried in the Savannah area, and this is tops!

They charge you more to get the same sides, with the dishes that come with 2 sides. There were a few other things that surprised me, that made me not want to go back, like certain meals you can get at lunch, but not dinner and they didn't have any lamb dishes available and they pushed the goat, which was full of sharp bones. I think I'll stick with Island Breeze.
