Fried flounder, mac n cheese, red rice, green beans, corn bread
    Lisa W.

My first time here. I had driven pass this restaurant several times and always wanted to stop in. Finally made it and I wasnt disappointed. Unfortunately, on my day of visit, there were no collard greens...ughh!! I ordered the flounder and chose green beans with mac n cheese as my sides. The fish is served with red rice, but was shocked the red rice didnt have sausage. I've become accustomed to sausage. Despite that, the flounder was amazing. I SAID AMAZING!! The mac n cheese was pretty good, right around an 8/10. The green beans had no burst of flavor, a tad bit of salt needed. Personally, I use a little chicken bouillon. Nevertheless, i enjoyed my meal. The owner was present and very kind. I will be returning for collards.

We were told to try this place by the manager of the Beech Institute, a school turned museum funded and created by freed blacks 2 centuries ago. We came and unfortunately, a lot of the food we wanted to try was gone. But what was there was outstanding! The cabbage was slap yo momma good. I was talking to one of the chefs and told her I was gluten free and she made sure to fry my shrimp in just corn meal, not flour as she would normally. My youngest daughter had the friend fish and ate everything within 10-15 silent minutes. Food tasted like home. The service was like family fixing you a plate. My one issue is that some food was a bit salty for me. But I felt more like that was a flavor choice rather than an issue with the food. I was very happy.

The food was delicious and the service was excellent. All orders were cooked to order. It's best to go early in the day when they have all items available. This is definitely a place I'll be coming back to when I'm in the area.

The food was phenomenal, I'm a foodie so I'll drive to receive great food and customer service with a smile. The fish was seasoned nicely, Mac and Cheese was very delicious, collard greens was like my grand mother was back in the kitchen cooking. Everything was slap your momma good. I'm a Regional Executive Chef and highly recommend this hidden treasure to anyone that's looking for a wonderful home cooked meal.

Left a graduation and was looking for food and stumbled upon the sign at the corner of East broad st and it didn't disappoint. Shrimp, fish, cabbage was fire. And the cinnamon rolls are hands down the best I've ever had. Thank me later

Great food! We took our food to go and food was still hot when we got back home. All food is cooked to order. We ordered the fish & shrimp, smothered pork chop. It was all amazing! Will visit again when in the area!

Not a fancy place, but super nice folks and some of the best, most authentic southern soul food I've ever had (I've had a lot) if your looking for atmosphere keep scrolling, outstanding food, you found it.

We decided to do a walk in and was quickly seated at the bar which has the full menu. The location is great and it's within walking distance of a lot of the other shops, restaurants, and bars. The building is really beautiful and has so much history. Downstairs has a cool dark and gloomy old vault with a full bar, has individual rooms, and there was a piano player and singer while we were there. The atmosphere was definitely my favorite part. The drinks at the downstairs bar were just okay. I ordered the Pink Lady and thought it tasted a little watered down. The food was delicious but portions are a little small. I ordered the shrimp and grits, which was an appetizer, along with the crab cake and fried green tomatoes. Those two filled me up. The shrimp and grits came with five shrimp, but they were tasty. The crab cake was also really good, while the fried green tomatoes were okay. My coworker ordered the chicken pot pie and really enjoyed it. Our server was incredibly friendly and personable, and we really enjoyed talking with him. The manager also came by and chatted with us and told us the story behind why it's called the olde Pink House. Overall, the food was good, the service was exceptional, and the history and decor make this place worth visiting. Even if you can't get a reservation, I'd still recommend stopping by as a walk in at the bar area or checking it out the downstairs Tavern bar area.

We had the special of stuffed grouper, friend chicken, pecan crusted salmon, and the chicken pot pie. The biscuits were insanely delicious. Drinks were strong. Everything's worth the $$$ splurge. The only complaint we had which was a mistake that the server explained and apologized for, was when they put in the table. The order didn't go through because they assigned to the wrong table or didn't hit submit so we did wait a little bit for our food. But the restaurant made up for it. And our server was completely apologetic.

I managed about ten, and everything was well prepared, generous, and full of flavor. The communal-table atmosphere makes the meal feel less like dining at a restaurant and more like being welcomed into a very large Savannah family dinner. Before our trip, one of my fraternity brothers told me that if I wanted some of the best Southern soul food in Savannah, I had to visit Mrs. Wilkes. He also warned me that there would be a long wait. Let me just say--he was absolutely right on both counts! We arrived at the restaurant and stood in line outside in the rain. We didn't get seated until 1:00 PM. Normally, I would not wait that long for a meal, but for the record, and I can't believe I'm saying this--it was worth every minute of the wait. The experience was unlike any restaurant I've ever visited. My wife and I were seated at a large table with approximately eight other people whom we had never met. Yet within minutes, it felt like we were dining with family. The atmosphere was warm, welcoming, and filled with genuine Southern hospitality. The food was simply outstanding. Every traditional Southern dish you can imagine was brought to the table and passed family-style from person to person. The home-cooked flavors reminded me of the meals many of us grew up enjoying. Everything was delicious, and the desserts were just as impressive. What made the experience even more special was the sense of community. People of different backgrounds and races were dining together, sharing food, conversation, and fellowship. The staff worked together seamlessly and went out of their way to make every guest feel welcome. While we waited in line, a gracious lady shared the history of the restaurant and the legacy of Mrs. Wilkes herself. The staff even provided umbrellas to guests who didn't have one--including me--which was a thoughtful gesture that spoke volumes about their commitment to customer service. From the food, to the hospitality, to the rich history and unique family-style dining experience, Mrs. Wilkes Dining Room exceeded every expectation. If you're visiting Savannah, this is not just a meal--it's an experience. I proudly give Mrs. Wilkes Dining Room a 5 out of 5-star rating and highly recommend it to anyone visiting Savannah.

Looking back, we probably should've kept right on walking. We ordered the fried chicken, potato wedges, red rice, New Orleans rice, and cabbage, jalapeno cornbread and pecan cornbread. Unfortunately, the only things we actually enjoyed were the fried chicken and the potato wedges. Once again, it was an epic fail. The cabbage tasted like it had been boiled in plain water with absolutely no seasoning. Both the red rice and the New Orleans rice reminded us of Minute Rice or Uncle Ben's microwavable rice--bland, lacking flavor, and nothing like the rich, seasoned rice dishes we were expecting. The fried chicken was crispy, juicy, and well-seasoned, and the potato wedges were cooked perfectly, but those two items weren't enough to save the meal. We came hoping for authentic Southern comfort food, but left disappointed. Sadly, this is one restaurant we won't be adding to our list of places to revisit.

The whole place is designed to feel like the inside of a trailer--spray-painted antique chandeliers, old pictures of different trailer parks, and random little details everywhere. It's kitschy, but very intentional, and honestly pretty cool. We came in late after a 4h drive into town after work, and the staff was still super friendly and accommodating. No "we're about to close" energy, which I appreciated. We started with the creamy collard dip, which is basically their take on spinach-artichoke dip, but with collards. Really good. I do think the chips were a little too heavy for the dip--a thinner chip would've been perfect--but that's a small note. The chicken pancake tacos were probably my favorite. The chicken was fried perfectly and still really moist. And at this point, I'm convinced Savannah just knows how to cook chicken. Everywhere we went, the chicken was consistently good. My partner got the grilled apple pie sandwich, which has fried chicken, grilled apples and bacon. He's not even a big pork person, but that bacon was so crispy and the whole combination just worked. Even the waffle fries were good--crispy, fresh and actually seasoned. We had the Grateful Dead and Wicked Kiwi cocktails, plus a couple of shots, and the drinks were strong, good and reasonably priced. Honestly, I don't have a ton of notes here. It's not trying to be some elevated dining experience. It's just a really good late-night spot with good food, strong drinks, friendly service and a fun atmosphere. We sat inside because Savannah in August was not about to have us sitting on anybody's patio. Definitely recommend, especially if you're looking for somewhere to eat late. It was a vibe, the food was good, and it did exactly what it needed to do.

Been here for both dinner and lunch. All this said, I think my approach to this review is comprehensive. With regard to food, I think they have a decent (not expansive) selection of food, which I think lends itself to quality. They do most things really well. This said, I do think there is inconsistency based on staff at the restaurant. On one occasion they have accommodated a request, and on another I was denied the exact same request. I found this frustrating. On one occasion I've also seen management talk down to staff here, which is a big no no for me. All people (especially staff) are due respect and this rubbed me the wrong way. This was an isolated incident but it definitely made my dining experience uncomfortable. Especially because I was getting excellent service from the server!!! I've always had quality service from servers here. In the future, I would come to Rhett for convenience as a hotel guest (the hotel is lovely), but would likely not spend my money if I wasn't staying at the hotel. Overall- it's good food, decent ambiance... but there are soooo many good options in Savannah. You have to be exceptional to stand out in that city.
