I have been to other Little Richards BBQ but had never visited this one. Even though it is a lot smaller, it seems to be packed with more flavor. The long drive thru lane outside was the 1st clue that this location was the main one. We were seated immediately and attended by a sweet bilingual waitress that made the experience here that much better. We always skip appetizers because we know our main dishes are always enough to fill up any hungry person. I got the 12 Bone Baby Back Ribs with the Soul Rub. Talk about finger licking good, each bite was sweet & spicy that I felt like jumping up and dancing like James Brown.....Heeeyyy.......not only packed with different spices but super meaty. With sides of hush puppies, beans, & Mac n cheese, I was not able to finish it all and had enough for two more meals at home. My kid got the traditional BBQ plates, and BBQ Smoked Wings respectively. These are their favorites and were extremely happy. I always steal a wing from them to get my fix for that smoky flavor you can't get anywhere else. The friendly service was fast and efficient. To no surprise there was still a consistent line at the drive up, signs of how great the food is. Even though the ride is a bit longer for us, it is worth it. If you are looking for the quintessential family barbeque joint you've just stumbled on it! After a quick review of the previous photos posted about Little Richard's Barbeque, it was clearly apparent they have strong line up of good southern barbeque. Upon pulling into the parking lot, I noticed the building resembled a small red barn with a nicely paved area and plenty of room. As I walked up to the building, I got a pleasant whiff of the smokey flavored meats emanating from the pit. I was greeted by a heartily warm, "Sit wherever you like", which is now becoming a staple in southern barbeque hospitality. LRB has a nice straightforward menu, with a sandwich selection on one side, and bbq platters, sides, and desserts on the other. They even recently added craft beer to their cooler. Looking around, there is a comfortable setting of decorations composing of old signs and license plates making for a suitable atmosphere. This place is great for families with children of all ages, as while I was there a large group was seated right next to me. My ears even popped up when I heard them mention how good their homemade ranch dressing is! (Pro tip: If you like ranch dressing, make sure you ask for it!) I ordered the brisket platter, with a side of green beans and mac'n cheese. They make their own hush puppies, so if you are a fan, these will be perfect to dip into the ranch dressing. Overall, meal was solid - definitely on par with some of my favorite barbeque spots in the South. On this visit, I did find the brisket to be a tad bit dry, which may just be different than the way I've experienced it before. Nevertheless, the portion of brisket was good, the exterior crust had an incredibly deep smoke flavor and I would give it another try on another visit for sure. My waitress was very attentive and made sure I had everything I needed, including an explanation of how to pay as they have just started using portable card readers. If you are in the area, or would like a good excuse for a small road trip for barbeque in Clemmons, North Carolina - this is the place. Keep up the good work. Enjoy! read more

Let me start by saying that this is your typical southern bbq style restaurant. The servers are very good, nice and respectful. The food is good but stay away from the ribs. Everything else was good especially pulled and sliced pork. Their sauces are excellent. Here is why we did not like the ribs; they are very hard chewy baby back ribs, the meat to bone ratio is very low, if you are looking for meat that falls off the bone, those ribs are not for you. They serve pretty good Lexington style BBQ here, not quite as good its former associate located on Country Club Road in Winston, but close. The pork here is smoky, tender, moist, and comes in a medium chop. Because of the way it is cooked, the chopped meat will have some pink color in it , as well as the usually white & brown. It comes out of the kitchen lightly sauced, and rather mild - they do have more sauce on the table, and it is good. Sliced pork is available, but I find it a little dry. The slaw is the typical red BBQ slaw with a nice twang to it - makes a great sandwich. They also serve a white cole slaw. The BBQ Chicken is good, the ribs are not ones I care for, though they are tender. This place does offer some country cooking items - the country style steak is excellent, as is the fried okra, and M & C. I would pass on the hot dog. Best BBQ we've found in the area is not in Lexington. It's in Clemmons. The brisket was absolutely fantastic! We also loved the hush puppies, fried okra, and their variety of sauces. The service was extremely friendly, and they brought us extra of everything so that I was drowning in sauces. Love that Carolina Gold! The banana pudding was made fresh, and I honestly had to fight the baby over rations of it! I lost that fight, of course. Prices were very reasonable too. My only complaint would be that it's cramped inside when it's busy, but it still didn't take away from the quality or speed. We can't wait to go back! read more

A do not miss stop on the BBQ train in NC. You need to be prepared: First I hope you like hush puppies, they are good and they are not shy about sending you home with a trunk full. Second get the cobbler, I know, I know your full but but midnight hot cobbler is just the best. Down to the stuff: Meat is good on its own with flavor and smoke. They have a surprisingly selection of sauces in various types you don't normally see. Here's some hush puppies.... Ribs: Good Smoke and Spice on the dry rub. Brisket: Good flavor and Smoke. Sides: More hush puppies.... Collard Greens: Nice consistency, not over cooked and come spiced up with a little vinegar. Mac and Cheese: Good and creamy. Visited Little Richard's on New Year's Day for a late lunch. The restaurant was still busy and nearly all the tables were full. You seat yourself and it took a few minutes for someone to notice me. Not a huge deal but it's always my worry in a seat yourself place when its busy. I ordered a hot dog and a chunky BBQ tray that comes with slaw and hushpuppies. The hot dog wasn't great. It was loaded with soggy slaw that caused the bun to just disintegrate. Disappointing. The BBQ was good though. Big, juicy chucks with good flavor. I added their Smokehouse BBQ sauce which was my preference. The BBQ slaw was good too as were the hushpuppies (they give you plenty). An OK experience but I'll visit other BBQ places before returning to this location more than likely. read more

Best wings and hush puppies I've ever eaten! Everything is delicious but the wings and hush puppies are my absolute favorite. You don't need any sauce because of how flavorful they are. BBQ wars aside, this is a great family restaurant. This long time community favorite is squeaky clean and friendly. Food is everything you want and need in a local BBQ joint. In the south it's almost sacrilegious to get BBQ in an upscale restaurant and certainly not necessary. I had the cow-pig showdown and handmade chips. Excellent on both! Chips were crisp, not soggy indicating fresh oil in which they were fried. The brisket and pork had great smoky flavor. Plenty of it on my sandwich. I had the three meat platter. Maybe I had Texas bbq style expectations but I was majorly disappointed. Brisket was dry and a bit chewy. Ribs had been sliced and smoked or roasted individually rather than smoked as a rack, almost like a pork chop. Sausage was kielbasa-like rather than a meaty smoked bbq sausage. 3 stars for the absolute mediocrity of it all. First time in North Carolina but I've had bbq in quite a few states and I have to say there wasn't anything about this that stood out. Tried the smoked sausage and the BBQ pork. Sausage tasted fine with the the Carolina Gold sauce. Pork was severely lacking in terms of sauce and flavor. Another review had mentioned the lack of sauce and I agree. Felt almost nonexistent. As far as the sides go they were pretty standard. Mac and cheese was average. Okra was done well and wasn't slimy but tasted like every other fried okra I've ever had. All in all you'd expect to make something this quality at home, not really restaurant tier. read more

I have always loved Little Richards! We have been to Clemmons, Stratford Road and Walkertown and have never had an issue. They are handling the COVID restrictions very well, especially at the Clemmons location. Usually when we are in this area our go to barbeque place is Honky Tonk Smokehouse but since they are closed on Mondays and this place was only a mile from the hotel we were staying at we decided to give them a try. My wife got the smoked drumstick plate which had four good sized drumsticks and came with two sides and hush puppies. She got collards and pinto beans. I tasted the chicken and the hush puppies and both were good. She said everything was really good. My brisket sandwich was another story. The meat came pre-sauced and I ask them to leave off the sauce and they didn't. It was served shredded not sliced on a hoagie roll with grilled onions. At least the sauce was not that super sweet kind which I can't stand, but it covered up the taste of the brisket and just wasn't my taste. The brisket may have been better if it had not been slathered in all that sauce. Sandwiches don't come with a side so I added red slaw at $2.50 and with tea that pushed my sandwich to $14. With drinks, tax and tip we hit $37 which I think is really pricey for two people to eat at a barbeque joint. Three stars only because my wife enjoyed her meal way more then I enjoyed mine. My rating would have been two stars based on my meal alone. My wife said she would come back. If I had to, I would try something else and avoid the brisket sandwich, but I think this place is over priced and my brisket sandwich wasn't good at all, so it really wouldn't hurt my feelings if I didn't have to come back here any more. read more

BBQ that could compete anywhere in NC. My wife and I stopped while driving that section of 40. Based on reviews I expected a decent experience and it did not disappoint. I ordered a chunky BBQ sandwich with coleslaw and a side of fried okra. My wife ordered a chopped BBQ sandwich with a side of corn fritters. The okra was crispy and hot. I'm almost certain they were frozen but wasn't offended because they were good. The corn fritters also were good though I thought they were a too sweet. The BBQ on the sandwiches were the highlight. I received solid chunks of meat and I have no doubt there was about a half a pound of BBQ on my sandwich. The chopped BBQ would be considered coarse to Lexington standards. The smoke really came through. If you don't like the taste of smoke you may not like this BBQ. My wife was put off at first. She added their red bbq sauce and became very happy. I didn't feel it needed the sauce (though I used it anyway). A really nice touch was the warm bottle of vinegar based BBQ sauce that our waitress brought with the food. As far as service, our waitress was really on top of things. She had a lot of different tables that all sat at about the same time and she handled it professionally. She moved with purpose and all of our food came out in 10 minutes (maybe even less) and was correct. Even though it was a busy afternoon we didn't feel rushed. read more

We had an excellent experience at Little Richard's!!!! Totally 100% random find while we were visiting the local craft brewery scene in Winston Salem. I was a little worried when I asked the server if I could get fatty cut brisket, especially considering some of the Yelp reviews commented that the brisket was on the dry side. Our server was a young lady, very sweet and southern to the core --- she ran to the back and inquired. The answer was YES!!!!! I ordered the three meat platter, around $18.99, I think..... Look at my picture, that is a King Platter, friggin' huge!!!!!! Fatty cut brisket was not that fatty, about half the fat that I am used to - which actually works out as to much fat is BAD, to little fat is BADDER. LoL. Great smoked flavor, melt in your mouth, with an awesome caramelized crust that was excellent.. The smoked sausage is about the best I have ever had, great smoked flavor with a snap every time you take a bite. Very good! The ribs, oh the ribs.... I am super picky and honestly good BBQ joints that have excellent pulled pork and brisket, really blow it on ribs. I am not sure why that is but it is just my experience - if you want ribs - go to a rib house; if you want BBQ - go to a BBQ house, etc. etc. etc. You get the point......... The ribs were excellent, as in fall off the bone delish. I was digging the rub and sauce. Honestly, when they plopped down in front of me, I was like oh crap, over-cooked, dry, blucky. But, looks are deceiving, they was wonderful. I almost ordered a full rack after I gobbled my three ribs down. Check out my pics and give them a like or two :-) My wife went with the pulled pork platter, she said the pulled pork was excellent as well as the fried okra, but the potato salad sucked!!!! She knows her potato salad and said that she doubts it was homemade......Hush puppies were standard, about average, nothing earth shattering. The onion rings and corn fritters were EXCELLENT!!!! I love me a good onion ring that the batter does not fall off when cutting it and dipping it. Speaking of dipping, the sweat BBQ sauce and home made ranch deserve to be mentions, awesome!!!!! Another nice touch on each table is Cajun salt, or maybe it is some kind of Old Bay - anyway there is a shaker of it and it goes great with everything. Closing out the feast, my wife ordered the coconut cake. My wife said it was definitely home made and rates it high on the scale - around an 8, on a scale of 1 to 10. We had no issues with service, the manager was on top of his crew and asked about our meal, the local folks are all hanging out eating and friendly. I'm not giving them 5 stars because there is a problem with the food or the service but rather because I'm reserving the 5th star for places that just totally knock my socks off. My first time here--- delicious chopped pork sandwiches-- be careful -- these things are huge--- I usually eat 2 sandwiches elsewhere-- this was a struggle. Hmmm - 1st and last experience with this place all in giving it a try through take out. Saw it on the Yelp App - had a simple button to order dinner - paid with Apple Pay. I tipped 10% or about $4 so someone would take some care putting our order together. Guess this was money wasted. They left my banana pudding off the order and did not give my wife the cheerwine ordered. She was picking up a order I placed - so she didn't know. This would be no different than using a delivery app. Additionally they forgot to put any bbq sauce on the chopped sandwich. So basically I wasted $9 on a $40 order at 25%. Food? Mediocre. Kid liked his hamburger steak - but thought the mash potatoes and gravy was a regretful decision. After my wife drove 20 minutes home we realized the mistake. I did call the place and talked to a manager and she said it was their fault. I said what good is a tip on takeout if it's not paying to have someone check your order. She said we want to make it right - I said great - refund my banana pudding and cheerwine - she said I don't have the authority to do that - we could credit your next order. Here is the thing - there will not be another order. I said never mind I would just leave a review of my experience. I said this was our 1st time giving you a shot and it was a disappointing experience. Carolina smoked chicken not bad - hush puppies not bad. Maybe if you dine in ok - they can fix their mistakes. As a take out place total fail - total lack of care putting an order together - $40 order with $30 worth of food - wish I had saved the tip and not ordered a drink or dessert since I got neither. Honestly the food is just not good enough to give another go. Picking up dinner should never be a hassle. Getting orders right should be top priority. At this point it's not about getting something free - I didn't get everything I paid for and hate having to deal with that - enough scum pretend things are wrong to get free stuff. Take this for what it is - not a take out place. They called as I was writing this review and said they figured out how to credit my pudding and cheerwine back - guess they kept the tip lol - I will update if the credit comes - at least they were trying to make up for mistake. But seriously - take this review as a wake up call - every order deserves time and care if you want repeat business and customers to become advocates or cheerleaders. I held this review for a week because the business called me twice and first left a voicemail where they offered to refund my money on the items they forgot to give us. They knew. They called a 2nd time and I answered and the girl said the manager wanted them to refund my tip as well for poor service. I said I had just written this review but wouldn't post it since they decided to do the right thing on their own. Update they did refund the money for the missing items - but they did not refund the tip. I tipped someone that couldn't check the order - ugh.
