As an old employee of Little Tokyo I am quite appalled at the reviews I have read. I worked there for 3 years and the only reason I left was to go to college. Yes, service is slow sometimes, however most of the time when it is, there is good reason for it. Examples: lots of customers (we had that "problem" a lot because people seemed to love our food.) or you order a lot of food in which case there are only 2 chefs. In a small not chain restaurant there tends to be not so many employees and I have always thought that small restaurants there is better food. Little Tokyo proves this point exactly. Also one should take into account that every waitress is different and just because you had one awkward server does not mean that Little Tokyo as a whole has bad service. Personally I knew most all of my customers because they come back that many times. As for the food, I have since worked at 2 other sushi restaurants and lets just say that I could roll better sushi from being taught at Little Tokyo. In addition to it being rolled properly I can also speak from experience that I know that it was fresh everyday because I personally watched as the sushi chef (who also owns the business) cut up a full fish. He cleans it starting even by taking off the scales, it is that fresh. I still go to here every chance I get when I am home and HIGHLY encourage people to as well. They have excellent lunch prices and you definitely get more food then you pay for instead of the typical thought that sushi is overpriced. read more

I have traveled in the far east and dined at fine restaurants in Vietnam, Thailand and Japan. I'm so pleased to have discovered the out of the way, Little Tokyo restaurant in Munster, In. of all unlikely places. The owners/operators are friendly and warm have taken great effort to speak to make their establishment a success in every way. They were most engaging and warm hosts and the servers refreshingly helpful and attentive. The 10 times, or so, that I have frequented Little Tokyo I have exclusively ordered from their expansive Sushi menu. I have found their sushi to be not only fresh and made with the highest quality ingredients but also prepared with an expertise level of skill and pride. I recommend Little Tokyo w/o hesitation. It is worth the drive from anywhere in NW IN or even Chicago for that matter. read more

I write some comments about the criticism of some customers. First I never criticize anybody for not eating ginger and wasabi. I just suggest people to try it to make sushi taste better. Now the supplies have increased three times in price. The wages of the worker has increased too. But our food price stay same after ten years. That is why I try to save a little if I can. Since you don't need them I let sushi chef take them off before I give you the plate, i don't feel I am doing anything wrong. I don't understand why you post this kind of comment , are you instructed by some mean people? i dont know which little tokyo you all have been going to, but i dont think its the one that i REGULARLY go to. the service is always pretty good there, i mean, no ones perfect, but they still usually get things done in a timely fashion. i dont even know what that comment meant that said its japanese...(kind of). its either japanese or its not, and seeing as this is a japanese restaurant and they serve japanese food, i'd say theres no kind of about it. if you wanna take the word of a few people who have tried stopping in there and didnt even wait for the delictable cuisine, you can, but i would strongly suggest trying some of the best sushi and other japanese items around for yourself. read more

We absolutely Love this place !!!!! We could eat here everyday. The owners are one of the hardest business owners we have ever met. They strive to please and are the kindest people ever. If you want to go out and be spoiled this is your restaurant. The food is fresh and the prices are reasonable. They have a wide variety of fresh food and if your date is not a sushi fan they have a variety of other foods that would fit your tastebuds. Believe me I have taken many of my friends who said Nope to sushi and now are hooked and love this place as much as we do. If you haven't been here in a while, try it again. There's a new chef and he's got a list of friggin' amazing rolls he's created just for the restaurant. My friends and I go there weekly and sometimes we have to break down and go twice a week because we get the DTs from lack of Ice Mountain and Lava rolls in our systems. If you're going here expecting someone to hold your hand and refill your glass the moment it's empty, you're going to be sorely disappointed. This is truly a neighborhood place and the service is kinda quirky. I admit the first time I went I was very put off, but I love sushi and went back with a different service level expectation. The sushi is awesome. They hire local high school kids which I think is great and now I love this place and I take my friends from the city there all the time and it is always a real treat. When you go just pretend you are at you your Aunt's house who is married to a world class sushi chef and you are being served from her kitchen table and let the good times roll. I've been to Little Tokyo a couple of times, and honestly, I thoroughly enjoyed my experience! My waitress was different on both occasions, and they were both very friendly and efficient. The atmosphere of the room was great, very decorative, but not over the top. Most importantly, the food was great! I went with friends each time, and they all liked their food as well, so I have to think I don't have bad taste. All in all, Little Tokyo is a great place to get some good Japanese food, and you should try it out. read more

Absolutely the best sushi at the price range. The service sometimes is slow even with few patrons but today I went in and it was quick. This is my fourth time here and they know me by name and treat me like a regular. The old lady and old man work so well together and have a great sense of humor. I am a extremely fussy eater.....My friend took me into this restaurant and it was delicious!!! I would recommend Little Tokyo to anyone who loves Sushi and a menu with great variety.... I have read through several of the comments posted about this restaurent and I have to DISAGREE with them.... they must not have class or know good food! Have been there 5 times now. The first two it was crowded and service was slow but worth the wait. Have tried many sushi places and this is by far the best. Prices are average for rolls.
