We went on a weekend, made reservation for 6, but the table wasn't ready for another 15 min after we got there.   This is a fairly casual, home-style establishment. Tables were quite tightly packed.  No fancy interior design or decorations at all. Instead they focus on the quality of their ingredients.  Their beef and 'home made balls' were definitely one of the better ones.  Even the veggies were very good. The cooked food,  particularly deep fried chicken wings were incredible. Quality similar to those of 'wo fungs'  The only gripe I have about this place was that not only the base price for all you can eat was somewhat high. 38 or 45bucks (choice of regular and deluxe menu),  many other items were considered extras.  Like sauces, fish tofu, oyster. Pop and drinks were $3 each, while most places ayce place just charge you one set fee for unlimited refills. (Since you naturally eat less when you drink more). They have a 1.5 hour seating per table but they did not rush us out after It would be nice if they have better fans/vents that take out the steam. You and your clothes will smell like hot pot after! Jun Yan is located on Victoria St and 41st Ave. It's small and cozy Cantonese Hot Pot restaurant. I'm small eater and rarely go for all you can eat restaurant. I had never tried AYCE hotpot, I prefer quality not quantity. We came here with another couple, we tried to order more items as we could.... Wonton, shrimp dumpling, Enoki, radish, taro, oysters, fish noodles, chicken liver, tong ho, shrimp balls, squid balls, chicken wings, fatty beef and wagyu beef. Decent Cantonese style all you can eat hot pot restaurant. They provide soy sauce and satay sauce and everything else is extra. Since it's an AYCE spot, I think they should just included the other sauces as well. They have some cooked items as well, the fried chicken wings was good. They offer wagyu beef but it's nothing spectacular, tastes like the basic beef you'd get at a nice hotpot restaurant. One thing I didn't like was the beef tongue, I think it would be a lot more appetizing if it was cut into thin slices instead of a big piece. Actually one of the better AYCE hot pot places in town. Good price, and most important, some epic food selection. Parking is available in front outside of rush hour. There are also the side streets. This place probably has the best selection out of every hot pot place I've tried in town. Most places have 1-2 glaring omissions, but I was happy to find that that wasn't case here, as long as one doesn't count the non-free quail eggs. Yes there's a 2 oyster per person limit, but the oysters here are quite large. They even have pork uteruses, for those who like to see where pigs come from. The food here comes very quickly, and is very fresh. Special mention goes to their meat slices, which are paper thin and are bright red (ie fresh). Another special mention goes to their deep fried "snack" section, which is especially great when everything inside that pot of soup starts tasting the same. No other place I know of does this. Expected so much from this place and felt disappointed because of satay broth. My sister and I freaked out from seeing oily bubbles in the soup. Whenever we ate cooked veggies and meat there was nothing but OIL. Yuck. DO NOT order peanut satay broth it's gross. Menu was good especially meat, veggies,seafood and snacks. Deep fried squid was YUMMY. It was hot and fresh you have to order this. Server was helpful. I ordered 1 on single items( quantity part was written in Chinese) and server came back explained misc, dumplings and seafood come as per piece. Also said meat and snack come as per dish. Good thing she helped since neither of us speak Chinese. Server added our bill incorrectly and later changed to the amount it should be. The total came around 53$ which is lesser than Little Sheep. The downside- dirty messy washroom. I almost walked out with toilet paper hanging on my shoes. Spent some time taking it off. Floor was greasy dirty. I nearly slipped myself while leaving the restaurant. Extra charge if you want sesame sauce, chilli and etc. NO all you can drink option or refill option on drinks. My overall rating is 2 stars since the broth was nasty. I felt desperate for chilli oil or heat afterwards. Plus the floor and washroom were dirty. Servers were good. Fatty Cow has unlimited oysters. This place limits you to 2/person, and it's not actually full oysters. It's an oyster sliced in half, so you really get one in total. 2. Quail eggs are add-ons here?? The beef is good, and the pig stomach and bitter melon broth is pretty nice. I once had their Chinese herbal chicken broth and it was too overpowering and all the foods were too infused with the herbal flavor. I also do like that they have some cooked foods for you to order that's yummy like deep fried shrimp. read more

The BEST ayce hotpot place. Go hungry! They have quality meats, freshly homemade fish and meat balls, and the most amazing fried chicken wings. First thing: the fried chicken wings (full wings) are a must order. It's the same owner as the super popular fried chicken wings place in the Aberdeen food court in Richmond. The ayce includes wagyu but I personally like the regular fatty beef better! The lamb is nice too and I don't normally order or eat lamb. The meatballs and fishballs are freshly made so you've got to order them. They're small so you can try them all out. There's a limitation to two oysters each. They're fresh and big! Only downside is you do have to pay for soup bases, some sauces and toppings (soy sauce and satay sauce is free), and drinks. So, it can add up. They give you coconut jelly for dessert that's super refreshing and not too sweet. Expect to pay $40-45pp all in. Personally I think it's well worth it for the quality of ingredients and variety. We had a reservation for 3 people at 7:30pm and the table was ready as soon as we walked in. We ordered the half and half soup ( herbal chicken/spicy szechuan). The Spicy szechuan is pretty spicy. There is a wide variety of meats, balls, veggies to choose from. A few of the highlight items were wagyu beef, pea tips, and deep fried chicken wings (large size). Service during the meal was ok. They removed empty dishes really quickly. However I had to ask for a refill of our teas a few times and for them to top off our broths. A great place for hotpot with a pretty wide selection of items to choose from. They even have sides that they offer which includes fried chicken wings and they are good!!! They taste like the ones you would get from the arberdeen food court! The only down side is they only give a small dish of satay sauce and there is no free refill option. Price wise it is relative to most hot pot restaurants where there is the per person price and price for the soup base. I believe I paid about $34 in the end with tax and tips included. Hot Pot season is upon us! Okay, who am I kidding? For many people in Vancouver, hot pot season spans the entire year... even during the hottest summer day. But I digress... Hot Pot joints in Vancouver has really started to sprout up everywhere - they're almost as popular as sushi joints. Jun Yuan is a hot pot restaurant located on Victoria Drive near E 41st, next to the BMO. For $21.95 per person, you pretty much get an AYCE menu of self-cooked meats, seafood, and veggies. The caveat is that you have to pay extra for the soup base (most are $7.95 and you pay $9.95 for two soup bases). If you're looking for the wild reishi (a type of mushroom), you'll have to pay an extra $29.95 for that soup base. In terms of sauces, they give you satay and soy sauce but you have to pay extra if you want to order some of their other dipping sauce items such as cilantro, sesame sauce, chili sauce, or garlic. We wound up ordering the sliced premium beef, the premium beef cube, sliced sirloin beef, sliced lamb meat, sliced premium pork, fish slices, shrimp, baby cuttlefish, squid, and imitation crab meat (we avoided most of the offal). In addition, we ordered the oysters (limit of 2 per person) which turned out to be huge! We rounded out our order with some homemade dumplings, wontons, fish balls, veggies, and udon. They do offer some cooked snacking food like the fried prawns and squid - both of which turned out to be rather good. Overall, the food wasn't bad. Like most hot pot places, we had difficulty fitting all of the food on our table. AYCE hot pot Cantonese style. Bad services on the 2nd visit, and the first visit was very good with 2 months apart. This time around they ran out of oysters 2 per person after we placed our order. We, 4 people, ordered 9 fried chicken wings. They bought out 4 and reminded the owner lady front counter in charge and the server that we did ordered 9. They told us that they don't think we can eat 9 chicken wings. So I told them that we can. After 30 mins I reminded them again, and the lady boss gave me the same excuse. Then I told her again that we can finish and will. We waited for another 30 mins and saw her served someone else just came in the missing 5 chicken wings and not bring them to us. We decided it's time to leave. This is the only time I have left a restaurant and not leaving tips. Came here yesterday night for a hot pot feast and i was pleasantly surprised! reviews on yelp prepared me for the worst but being there at 5pm (when it first opened) and a large table, i may have avoided some of the major complaints of service and speed of food. i hardly ever go to AYCE hot pot places because honestly, i don't eat all that much hot pot food (sushi or desserts are a different story) but the options here at jun yuan are so abundant, i might consider visiting again. their main draw is definitely their fish noodles which are similar to udon (in size) but taste a bit like mild fish balls. also, all the little balls (pork, beef, cuttlefish, etc..) are homemade and a nice small size. veggies were also fresh and sweet and the deep fried cuttlefish and deep fried shrimp were also done amazing. the soup on the other hand was a bit saltier than i prefer but not bad. meat was not too fatty and even the pork jowl wasn't bad! overall, i quite liked the food here although i still think at home hot pot is a better deal :) read more

We arrived around 6 PM when there were very few customers there. The service was prompt and, for once in an AYCE place, you get the quantity you ordered! You are never left guessing at portions, because if you ordered 20 slices of wagyu beef, that is exactly what you'll get. Speaking of wagyu... that was definitely the highlight of the night. Each slice of wagyu beef was large, and just so tender and tasty - be sure to order that if you give this place a try. Meat-wise, that was definitely the highlight. Everything else (lamb, etc) was just as you'd expect - nothing special there. The vegetables here were about the best I've ever had. Standard fare for AYCE hot pot is the tang ho, and it was so flavourful even when the stalks were thick. They also had good quality pea shoots, which is expensive if you buy in a grocery store. The corn was very sweet as well. The decor feels very dated and if you look at the place from the outside, you'd probably never consider going in, but it is worth giving this place a try. If you are looking for a hot pot place away from the franchises around town, this one will do the job well. I've come here many times over the span of several years, I was quite disappointed. Firstly, they have raised the price a lot. They're now charging almost $40 for the regular AYCE and over $40 for the one that includes "wagyu and 2 oysters". I'd personally only go for the regular AYCE as their premium beef is just as good was their "wagyu". I remember it being under $30 a couple of years ago for the AYCE with wagyu. They also charge you individually for sauce ingredients so you have to buy garlic, cilantro, green onions, chilis etc all separately. The servers were quite attentive which was nice, swapping out the old plates frequently etc. The worst part is the portions/not getting what we asked for. We noticed that every single dish (other than the veggies) they had given us less than we requested. We had 5 adults and ordered 3 plates of fried fish balls, they gave us 1 plate. Since the gave us less meat than we asked for during the first round, we ordered 100 slices of meat during the second round (not much considering it is split between 5 adults and we were anticipating them not bringing out the amount we asked for). They brought out 25 slices of meat for 5 people. They also did not inform us that the udon noodles were out of stock until we asked (although it was available on the menu). Lastly, we had desserts written down on the first round of AYCE which were not brought out (I guess that is ok because they may be expecting us to want to eat it last?) but even on our last round they did not bring it out until we asked. I don't think it's the servers fault but the quality and quantity of the restaurant has gone down while the price has gone up. I can barely consider this AYCE when I left without being full because I was tired of asking over and over. I understand that prices for things have gone up because of inflation but if the prices are raised I expect the quality to stay the same and to be bring out the food we requested (which was a reasonable amount of food!) read more

They do charge for their sauce, chilli, eggs, etc. It can get a little on the expensive side depending again on how much you're eating and what you are getting for the sauce and condiments and what not. It does get busy, but perhaps that's because it's worth the price of admission for their food. First time here and I was stuffed! Recommended for hotpot for sure especially considering it is AYCE. This is the only ayce hot pot restaurant that offers deep fried chicken wings and deep fried squid. They no longer offer deep fried shrimp. This is included in your ayce price, and they come out perfectly crispy piping hot, made to order. Loved loved the oysters and shrimp, for frozen they seemed extremely fresh. Dumplings were delicious and everything seemed fresh. They use to charge $2.95 per plate of the wagyu beef, but now its included in the ayce price. Compared to the other meat options this beef literally melts in your mouth. This is unheard of to offer this quality of meat for ayce. Upon writing this I'm a little scared this hidden gem will get busier than what it already is, but I digress. Coconut dessert really hit the spot to finish off a fantastic meal. I am already planning to go this weekend as I can't get the chicken wings, wagyu beef, oysters and deep fried squid out of my mind. Your not suppose to do this, but whenever I eat hot pot, I bring my own hot sauce. I sauté fresh garlic, ginger, with sesame oil and at the very end I add those really small red chillies peppers chopped up and soy sauce. Two words: Best hotpot place in Vancouver EVER. This place is by far the best hotpot place in Vancouver. The best thing to do in this restaurant is to order a lot of prawns to sweeten up the soup base. We don't even actually eat the prawns in the end (don't tell the owners). The snow pea tips were very fresh, and it complimented the sweet soup base from the prawns very nicely. The deep fried chicken wing's are a must eat. They're so hot and fresh that I ended up going to the doctors to treat a bad tongue burn (ouch!) The service was excellent, it's like they kept wanting us to eat more and more food! It would have been my most favourite hotpot place to go to so far, until last night I was there with my family including my 9-month old baby. Because I have always been there with my friends I didn't know about their ridiculous policy: $5 charged for baby. I mean I've never seen an AYCE/buffet place charge a kid under 6; let alone my baby is 9 months old, she barely just started eating solid. What made me upset more is that they only informed me about the policy when bringing out the soup pot. Not when we walked in, not when we were sat down, not when we placed order, but when they started bringing the food out. If I had known about it by the time I walked in, I would walk out right away. When the server told me, I said my baby is 9 months old, what can she eat for you to charge her $5. The server said "I am just letting you know" and walked away. What the f does that supposed to mean?? Seriously it made the whole dinner terrible even though I have to say their food is one of the best AYCE hotpot. This is probably one of the worst hot pot places I've been to. I don't think I would ever return. 1. I love satay flavoured food & soup base so of course j got the satay soup base. Never have I ever had BLAND tasting satay sauce until I tried out this establishment... I had to add the actual satay dipping sauce into the soup to make it a little more flavourful. I shouldn't need to do this. 2. Not liking the service. Our server couldn't really speak English which is my number one pet peeve when dining at a restaurant. It's so frustrating!! Hot pot runs for about 19.95, little bit cheaper than other places that usually charge around 21.95 or 22.95. Most of the meats are very fresh tasting and not freezer burned. We ordered 2 different soups to try, a satay soup and a 1000 yr old egg and parsley soup. The regular beef was pretty good and we tried the premium beef which was extra. It was noticably better but I was happy with the regular beef. All the hot pot items were fresh we enjoyed the meal and of course ate too much. If you are looking for the best quality place, this is not the place, but you won't be paying the high prices either. We were desperately looking for a hot pot joint, we did not like Fatty Cow down the street so we decided on Jun Yuan. Some big pros: the oysters and deep fried prawns are amazing! Also the cheese sausage was a nice surprise, don't know many hot pot restaurants with this item on the menu. Some cons: service was non-existent, and the Szechuan soup base had way too many peppercorns! The meat was fresh and the price was fair for all you can eat. We prefer Jun Yuan over Fatty Cow, but we are in no rush to return any time soon. The deep fried prawns and oysters are the reason we would come back. read more

Quick update, on my last visit I noticed that the Wagyu beef is no longer unlimited, they started charging per plate. I think it was $5.99? It's not quite enough to dock off a star rating, maybe half a star. It's still one of my favourite places for hotpot ... but it sucks now that we have to "settle" for just the normal fatty beef instead of the mouthwateringly-soft wagyu. read more

I came here a few weeks ago with one of my meet up groups. This place was recommend by a few friends as well. I did the traditional meat in light broth hot pot. The meal came with lots of meat. Very awesome value. They actually had a lot to choose from, therefore, our party took longer than normal to decide. I appreciate the waitress being patient with us. The price was very comparable to other places. We over stayed our welcome due to socializing, however, it was medium busy. I appreciated their patience with us as we did this. read more
