Came here for happy hour with some co-workers and the place wasnt packed. Plentiful seating to go around. There's a small bird cage/sanctuary as you enter. The servers were pretty friendly and the happy hour had some good small bites. Parmesan fries- so good and crispy when it was served. Bahn mi sandwich was a great tasting sandwich that was definitely filling. The servers wasn't lying about having two thick pieces of bacon meat in the sandwich. Sauces were so good. I chose the pickled carrots and cucumbers and it was a light salad to go with my sandwich. Overall tasty food, happy hour options, and lots of seating. Adequate parking. We love the ambiance here. The aviary of birds In the front is so fun, and my mom appreciated that they take such good care of the birds there! We were there at 11 am, so we missed breakfast unfortunately. I got the bacon fried rice and it was flavorful and delicious! My mom ordered the BLT with the vegetable beef soup and it tasted homemade. The BLT had amazing bacon, but it was a little heavy on the horseradish/mustard. We loved the food here, and a fun hidden SB gem! We recommend it! And we are going to come back and try the breakfast. read more

Food was very good and reasonably priced. We had the salmon and halibut, both were very good and the vegetables too. Mashed potatoes were great. Sweet potatoes were okay. We are all well aware of how 'abnormal' 2020 has been. My family usually celebrates with a homemade Thanksgiving dinner on Black Friday. We didn't have much planned for the actual Thanksgiving evening. I had seen in the Santa Barbara Independent newspaper that Live Oak Cafe was among local restaurants offering Thanksgiving dinner this year. We wanted to support a local business while staying at home. Due to Covid precautions, instead of providing dine-in, Live Oak Cafe had individual Take-Home & Bake Pot Pie Dinners. Given that most folks are celebrating what they are thankful for in smaller groups and with less travel this year, we decided to give Live Oak Cafe a whirl (outside of their breakfast which I thoroughly enjoy). Let's just say we were extremely pleased! At only $25 a person, they offered: - Choice of Turkey or vegetarian Mushroom Pot Pie - Shredded Mixed Salad with lemon vinaigrette - Sweetened, cubed Yams - Green Beans with crispy onions - Choice of mini Apple, Pumpkin or Pecan Pie. For this price, it was quite a deal! Simply for two pies of any sorts is spectacular. The entree and sides filled us up enough that we had to save our dessert pies for the following day. I used to write off restaurants attached to hotels as probably not great. I have learned the error of my ways over the last several years and this hidden gem is a perfect example. We stopped in for drinks on our way to dinner elsewhere our first night here and discovered they have a well curated wine and craft beer list...we enjoyed selections of both. We came for breakfast the next morning. I had a wonderful bowl of steel cut oatmeal with assorted fresh fruit and toast. My wife had the avo bacon omelet. My oatmeal was great but that omelet...wow. You see they have 2 kinds of house cured bacon. The omelet comes with pacific rim bacon which is sublime and wonderful with a smoky-crumbly thing going on that is fantastic. We also ordered a side of the other bacon - maple espresso. Also fantastic. So we came back again for breakfast the second morning because - great service from folks like owner Molly and recent hire Marlena but also...BACON. Just had breakfast here on Sunday and only went here because the yelp reviews were good. When we arrived we were promptly seated! Yay. We chose to sit in the patio area which was cozier and quieter. The ambience of plants and big windows was pleasant. My husband ordered the typical eggs, hashbrown & bacon with toast (bleh) and he was delighted with it. I ordered the whole grain waffle which had flaxseed, quinoa and chia in the batter, and was topped with fresh berries and dusted with powder sugar. It was delicious, healthy and filling! I only ate a 1/4 of it because it was heavy...hubby ate the remainder. The prices are reasonable and the service was friendly. read more

Great little off-the-beaten path gem. I was staying locally and woke up early and ready to eat. Saw that this place was a short walk away and headed out. Glad I did. Open about 3 years, Live Oak is located at the Best Western motel on Bath Street. The new owners have done a great job improving the creativity of the menu and improving both interior and exterior ambience. Great feeling entrance (on the side) - immediate staff member smile and greeting and "sit anywhere you like - our patio is also open". It was May Gray so I opted inside, but the covered patio on a sunny day would be welcoming and nice. Menu has some classic breakfast option (eggs, toast and sausage, Live Oak Eggs Benedict) and some more ethnic ones (spicy chorizo frittata). Then I saw the "Bacon Fried Rice Bowl". I asked and my server immediately said "probably best thing on the menu". Sold. Ordered. Delicious! Super fresh and tasty especially with a little Sriracha (don't judge, it's Asian fusion). Service was superb - at least four people worked together to insure I was taken care of (I love the team service approach). I will be back - and so should you. read more

First of all: this place is so Lana coded. It's right next to a (really adorable) Best Western and outside the restaurant they have birds! Fun! The servers at Live Oak Cafe are really kind; however, the server that suggested I get the pasta was wrong. Please don't order the veggie pasta; the sauce is literally watered Mariana. But go for the diner vibes and order something normal like pancakes! Also, the fries literally tasted like nothing... so not good or bad... just interesting. read more

Driving south from Paso to LA and the wife and I needed breakfast, so we stopped before the beach area of Santa Barbara and we were not disappointed! The coffee was bold and tasty, and so was their salted caramel latte- even priced way under market value. The French toast was delicious and the oatmeal was hearty. Service was great and the refills came without much effort on our part. The cafe is on site a Holiday Inn Express I believe but the vibe was nice, and plenty of Xmas decorations since it was mid-December. Would definitely return if we are in the area again. read more

I came in on a Wednesday evening around 7:30 and I was immediately greeted by the waitress and sat down. A few minutes after I reviewed the menu, she came and took my order and then disappeared until I was almost done with my food! I'm not sure what was going on the night I went in...service was very slow. I was almost done with my dinner when the waitress came back to check up on me. I had to ask the food server to refill my water cup a few times as I didn't see my waitress anywhere. The cafe was a little slow that night, only 4 tables were full. The menu is full of different various items and I think everyone's palate can be fulfilled here. But, the salmon burger I ordered was good! I just wish my fries weren't cold. read more

Went here after an appointment with my husband. The cafe is really pretty and clean. The service, was amazing. They are extremely attentive, friendly, and fast. The menu is a bit small but straight to the point. I got their avo bacon omelet with a side of hash brown and a orange juice to drink. The OJ was perfection, fresh and the perfect amount of sweet. The food was okay... to me, it was a bit bland and my hash browns had a lot of grease on the plate. The omelet had cheese and bacon inside and was topped with avocado. It was a good omelet but nothing that really wow'd me. I'm not sure if I would go back for breakfast but I would definitely go back and try their lunch based off their customer service! read more

It's a little cafe in a motel parking lot, and I honestly wasn't expecting much. It's for sure got a diverse menu. Happy hour hot wings are six for $6, they've got a sweet heat to them, almost like sweet chili. Super good, crispy. The pork belly banh mi, for sure was good. Lots of meat, and stuffed with pickled veggies. It was totally good. I wish I had gone with the garlic fries, because the regular fries were real good, super thin, very crispy. This cafe is usually not to busy, has great music selections playing and not loud; also relaxing atmosphere and great place to carry on conversation. The menu offers great healthy options with organic and free range products used in the items. There are less healthy options offered as well if you are looking for sweets In fact the dessert, pastry items looked wonderful but I try not to partake in these They also have seating from a room looking out over the outdoor pool. Our time at the Live Oak Cafe started positively as we were seated and the Americano was really well made and the coffee was tasty. Service was slow and after ordering our meals we waited a long time for anything to come from the kitchen. My wife had seen turkey sausage on the menu when we were looking for a place to eat, but didn't realize they were patties. She ordered the two egg combo and I got the Pacific Rim Bacon Fried Rice. My wife's dish was entirely unappealing. The patties were super salty, the potatoes seemed partially boiled and then quickly charred - they were flavorless and starchy - the toast felt low quality (when there are lots of local bakery options), which left meh poached eggs. The fried rice was ok but the mixed in vegetables seemed to be frozen and the egg was over done. I ate it without a lot of enjoyment. The prices aren't crazy and inexpensive enough not to be upset about the experience. Though I was really disappointed when no one said a word or asked about our satisfaction when they took my wife's barely picked-at plate. Otherwise, this would have been a squeaking by three star review. There are lots of other choices in Santa Barbara to make, unless you're staying onsite at the Best Western and it's super convenient. read more

We had an excellent breakfast today at the Live Oak Cafe. My eggs and my wife's omelet were done just right. The coffee was hot & fresh. I should have thought to ask the brand name of the coffee because it was delicious. Our server was also very good and the food was delivered to our table hot, which in some restaurants is a challenge. This restaurant is very convenient to Cottage Hospital, the Sansum Clinic and other surrounding medical offices. I highly recommend giving The Live Oak Cafe a try. read more

My boyfriend and I were very happy with our food. I had the turkey pot pie and matcha lime cake. He had the yellow fin salad and fries. I appreciate that the pot pie was not overly salty. Many pot pies I've tried are overwhelmingly salty. Nutrition wise I'm guessing this pot pie is still high in sodium, since it's still pot pie, but the flavor is perfect. No one orders the pot pie for health, it's definitely a comfort food and I sure do feel comforted. I am definitely getting this again in the future. The matcha lime cake was pleasantly sweet. I really like how this restaurant doesn't overdue it. This cake isn't super sweet. It's just enough. The only criticism would be it was a bit dry and very slight hint of refrigerator. Like it had been in there for a little while. I likely won't get this one again. My boyfriend loves the wasbi citrus dressing for the salad. He said, "I could drink this!" He liked his meal...
