I will be honest, this is not one of my favorite places to eat, but it's a great place to get a satisfying meal. Tonight I ordered baked chicken, mac and cheese, rice and gravy, cornbread and a side of catfish. Don't judge me, and sweet tea of course. The food should not be called soul food. It was awful. Sweet potatoes right from a can, no flavor at all. Collard greens too much salt, Mac and cheese not good and fried flounder was in small pieces not good at all. We ate here for Thanksgiving. Food was pretty good and our waitress was amazing. They were crowded so service was a little slow, but our server was more than apologetic. This is southern cooking industrial taste. The menu is posted on the wall which is good. The food is southern menu from the can and the frozen food section of a grocery store. I order salmon patty with 3 vegetables plate. The salmon patty was less than tasty and salty; okra and tomatoes straight out of a can and over sweeten, double cabbage- I found 2 green pieces of cabbage leaves. The two redeeming thing: fast service which one can do when food is out of can. And good cornbread muffin. If you want good food avoid this place. I am reporting my mother being served raw chicken on her salad today for lunch at Lizards Thicket on two notch Rd. It was served flipped downward with the blood touching the food. The General Manager completed an unsigned incident report. I hope this restaurant take precautions to not serve raw food. Let's pray she does not become ill. read more

Tried this place for the first time. Wanted some Southern cooking and decided to see what Lizard Thicket was all about. The food was pretty good. I will pass on the Mac & Cheese but everything else was good and affordable. The staff was very nice and the service wasn't bad. If I could give a negative star I would. Against my better judgement because COLUMBIA no longer has a Boston Market I went to Lizard Thickets to get my dad a turkey and dressing Sunday dinner for Father's Day . The freakin worse. A ice cream scoop of dressing shaved at the bottom three giblets of turkey ( in a sml French fry paper container) a hot sauce carry out container of cranberry sauce and a cup of tomatoes and okra. All in separate containers. Went in spoke to the manager his answer to the meal...I could put it in one container. The container was an issue but the amount of food...we were shortchanged. The manager was the worse. Looking and acting lost. I wouldn't recommend this place if it were the only place to eat. Service horrible, food horrible, just HORRIBLE read more

The food is predictable country style , with friendly service staff.. They want your order to be fast so it's not cooked to order. The breading may not be as crispy as other places. It's been in a warmer waiting for us. Can't have it both ways, good and fast. Upon entering the lobby I smelled a wet mop or sour door mats. The whole floor actually smelled sour. The floor was really messy and I switched booths because some sticky stuff I sat in. I try to give them a break a little because it seemed they were under staffed. Just a few girls running around real fast. They really need a good floor cleaning though. The L.T.'s on the other side of town have never been messy. We will come back for sure. I love it when I open up that great big plastic menu and marvel at the true Southern breakfast options from the sweet chicken n waffles to the savory biscuits and gravy with a side of cheesy stone ground grits. I would even go as far as to try the liver n onions some day. There's also an extensive dinner menu. The only irksome thing that could not have been helped by the establishment itself, is that I got leered at in a terribly unpleasant way by another male patron who sat directly in my line of vision. Food was not bad, I had the fried shrimp, which I could have done without because there was way to much breading on it. The collards were pretty good once I put a little hot sauce in it. I did try a piece of chicken and it was very well seasoned. Service was pretty good and the ice tea was delicious. Had the meat and 3(catfish/mac&cheese/fired okra/fries). Certainly nothing to write home about. While the service was pretty good, the food lacked...a lot. The catfish was okay but the sides weren't. Fried okra is best when it's hot and crispy. Mine was neither. The fries are straight from the freezer and the mac&cheese is fair at best. Decline the cornbread they offer, unless you play hockey and need some new pucks. Better go to Cracker Barrel next time. read more

All kind of great Southern Style cooking. Collards, okra, squash, fried apples etc. Got the chicken fried steak with white gravy, mashed potatoes, collards and okra. Damn good! Sweet cornbread was very good. And priced very reasonable. Waitress was very friendly. Only reason for not getting 5 stars was the quantity. I would have paid more for bigger servings. Meat & three veggies. A family owned local chain. This place took the place of mommas home cookin during college. Food is cafeteria quality but reasonably priced. First time in Columbia, SC, we decided to go here for dinner. It wasn't crowded at all and the staff was real friendly. We had a party of 7 (with 4 boys). They had the chicken tenders with two veggie sides. The chicken and all the vegetable sides we order were definitely freshly made and delicious. We had fried okra, fried squash, creamed corn, macaroni and cheese, Lima beans, and cooked apples. So delicious and fresh. The chicken fried steak I ordered though was not rather salty as I hoped it would be and it was actually a little cold when served with all the rest of the food. My sister's chicken and dumplings were good and tasted homemade. And my mom's flounder was good. The best part was the peach cobbler for dessert. I went for a Sunday breakfast with 3 other people around 9:30am. We were able to find seating immediately. Our waitress was very attentive the entire time. My breakfast was so delicious!! Great service and outstanding food. I've been coming here for ten years and have always been more than pleased with the quality of food. My favorite food to get is the beef stew (beef is very tender), green beans (very fresh), and macaroni and cheese (baked to perfection with high quality cheddar cheese). The chicken was disgusting. It was over cooked and burned, totally. Who ever put this in the to go box should have known better, shame on them! Perhaps I'm weird, but every now and then I am feeling nostalgic for cafeteria style food. This place is certainly better than what they served at Pontiac Elementary since you're not paying $2.50 a meal. You can tell the food is cooked in large batches and reheated, but it's not bad. It's not wonderful either. Service is so-so. You can't expect three diamond service at a place like this. We went on the Day they had Chicken and dumplings and they were marvelous! The dishes and sides are pure Southern Cuisine with no apologies required or offered! Pork is a seasoning and Mac and Cheese a vegetable! Right out of Blue Collar Comedy tour and onto your plate! I cleaned every bit of food off my plate on both visits! read more
