The staff at this location really came through on a busy day. I needed a standard cake for my father's birthday weekend. I thought by going to the OG location, there would be no issues in supply versus the Lexington location. When I arrived, though, there was a handwritten sign on the door saying they were sold out until 4pm and there was absolutely nothing in the display shelves! Apparently, there was a run on carrot cakes that morning due to a recent news feature story and everything else that was out was for pre-order. I was extremely disappointed by the situation, but the staff came up with a solution to sell me a just out of the oven, too hot to add icing cake, and give a container of icing on the side to go. This worked out better actually for us since some in my party prefer icing free. And since I've had the full experience of the cake before, I didn't need the polished version this time around since we were crunched for time. I wish one of their locations were open on Sundays cause I'm rarely in the area other days of the week to be a more frequent customer. However, I am a fan and love to support when I can! read more

If you don't know that this is the best place to get a carrot cake, let me tell you, Its the best place for a carrot cake. What I love most besides their cake is the fact that they make it with out the nuts and raisins. I personally like it with the nuts and raisins, but for those with allergies and those who hate raisins (My children and hubby), they still give you an option to do without them and enjoy a slice of their cake. I dragged my partner to the Bronx from Brooklyn just because I felt like exploring parks in the Bronx. I joked that when we got there we would get FAMOUS Lloyd's carrot cake. We ordered a large cake for our mother's 90th birthday, confirmed all the details and got a call back letting us know that the cake decorator was on vacation. My sister called on the day of pick-up to see if she could come by a little earlier to get the cake, they told her they had no idea what she was talking about. She called me to make sure she had the right place. I told her she did and that I would give them a call. When I called, the woman also said she didn't know what I was referring to and asked me to hold. She put me on hold for 15 minutes and never came back. I called back, no answer, again, no answer. I called 10 times over the next 2 hours until they closed with no answer. We had no cake and had to scramble to come up with a last minute alternative. We have ordered from Lloyd's in the past, had enjoyed the cake, and we like to support local businesses. However, the lack of respect or accountability is no way to run a business. We were so disappointed and shocked that this is the way they would treat loyal customers. Not making our order was obviously upsetting, but then not taking any responsibility for the mistake and ignoring us is so unprofessional and disrespectful that I felt a need to let others know so they don't end up in our position. I'm not a carrot cake fan, let me start off with that. But I never felt like I've had a good carrot cake, since I rarely if ever had it, so when I found out about this place, I decided to give it a shot. Its on a fairly desert stretch of roadway on the west side of Van Cortlandt park, but its pretty easy to get to since you just need to follow the road the subway line ends on a couple of blocks up. The storefront has a ridiculous carrot mascot, and is actually pretty small. Once you're inside, there's a counter, display case, and behind that the area where they make the cake. In other words, everything you need to see. I got a small with nuts and raisins, as I thought that would be plenty for three people. It wasn't that cheap all things considered (6" for like $12), but when I ate it at my friends' place later on with some vanilla ice cream, I definitely thought it was worth it. The cake is incredibly moist and very subtle, and the icing gives it a nice contrast without overpowering the cake. The nuts and raisins were a good choice, and overall this was far and away the best carrot cake I've had. I can't say it made me love carrot cake, but there's no doubt that this is a legitimately great carrot cake, one very much worth checking out at the least. read more
