Plain Carrot Cake. (I added crushed walnuts on my own)
    Merci M.

The plain carrot cake was perfectly balanced -- not too sweet, super moist, and honestly good enough to eat with just your fingers. The staff was friendly and welcoming, and they quickly helped me choose the right size cake for a birthday (10-inch for the win!). The ambiance isn't exactly Instagram-worthy. Floors were a bit messy, and the "uniform" is basically whatever they rolled in wearing. It definitely feels like incredible cakes are being created in a humble, hole-in-the-wall spot. One tip: I grabbed walnuts and birthday decorations from Dollar Tree and added the walnuts on top -- game changer. The carrot cake flavor jumps up a level with that added crunch. So good, it feels like it should come standard. Would I go back? Absolutely -- that carrot cake is worth it. But next time, I'm definitely requesting more cream cheese frosting because it was a little stingy this round.

The hype is real! Yummy carrot cake, not too sweet and the perfect treat. They even have cupcakes :)

Heard some hype by word-of-mouth and had to go in myself. Small space, grab-and-go type of place. Candidly, the worker was cheerless and dismal, but it seemed like the type of energy where you knew the food would be exceptionally delicious. And it was! Huge huge fan of the walnut and raisin-less carrot cake option. I appreciate a more soft, mushy texture. I do wish their other cake options were also sitting at room temperate so that I could readily enjoy those flavors as quickly. Had to wait a little bit to enjoy the strawberry cake.

My girlfriend got me a carrot cake for my birthday from here! She also got two individual cakes as well to try! With all the talk about this place, the carrot cake was pretty good! Was moist and not too sweet! Wish they added more frosting though! The two individual cakes were pineapple and strawberry layer cakes! The pineapple tasted better! What I didn't like was they were too dense! Would I buy the carrot cake again? Yes! Would I buy the layer cakes? No!

Lloyd's Carrot Cake 1553 Lexington Ave. New York, NY 10029 Carrot Cake It's not a mystery of what you plan to buy as soon as you enter the store. For a reasonable price and a small up charge for the toppings, I was very pleased. The cake was chilled and moist with the perfect ratio of frosting topped with nuts & raisins.

It's relevant for me to cite that Lloyd's was referred by a longtime resident of the Bronx, and Llyod's is a staple to the BX community. I took their recommendation to heart and decided to order a carrot cake in advance of National Carrot Cake Day. I placed my order via email with no credit card required, so that let me know they are old school and live on the honor code (I liked that). I arrived Saturday morning from New Jersey to pick up my order (carrot cake and coconut cake), which were ready. The storefront was a bit old, and the inside was small, crowded and not as sanitary as I would hope to see a bakery. There were multiple teens working, which was very nice to see. They accept major credit cards and apple pay, and of course cash. For two cakes it was about $51. MOMENT OF TRUTH...the cakes did not live up to the hype. It was pure dough and lots of sugar. It was a let down. I wish I would have taste tested with a slice before committing to not one but 2 whole cakes.

Lloyd's Carrot Cake is where people come for the best carrot cakes in New York City. They sell the plain slice for $5 and the carrot cake with nuts and raisins for $5.50. Cakes are baked and frosted on-site. The carrot cake slice is dense and moist, and the carrots provide a really rich taste. The classic cream cheese frosting is a little on the sweeter end, but the carrot cake itself is not too sweet, so it pairs really well. I really like the nuts and the raisins for the added texture and flavor. Prices: $5 plain slice $5.50 slice w/ nuts & raisins * Baked with or without walnuts and raisins, and topped with their signature cream cheese frosting * 2 locations: Harlem & the Bronx * They also sell red velvet cake, pineapple-coconut cake, strawberry-coconut cake, and different types of chocolate cake, as well as cupcakes and muffins

Really cute family run bakery. Loved the carrot cake. Also got the red velvet to try. It's easily accessible by 6 train.

Wow! My friends at work bought me a carrot cake from here and it was amazing! So good, that I ordered a 12 inch plain carrot cake for my husband's retirement party. It was worth driving into the city for it! It was a HUGE hit. So delicious, not too sweet-just perfect. And the cream cheese frosting was out of this world. The 12 inch round cake easily fed my 20 guests. We had a whole half a cake left over which we demolished a few days later. Initially, I just ordered this size for my family before the party ( with intention of freezing most of it) bc I wasn't sure it would keep for a week, but when I picked it up the staff assured me it would still be good so I saved it for the party. I will definitely be ordering from here again! Thank you! Photos are the smaller 6-8 inch cake.

Everyone raves about this place and I was super excited to go. I honestly feel unworthy to write this review because I didn't try the carrot cake, I know the point of this place was carrot cake only. But unfortunately I ordered a slice a cake that the workers told me not to order but I didn't listen ( shame on me ) However, I did order some carrot cake slices for my co workers and they were completely satisfied with it and had zero complaints. I'm not sure if I would visit again based on the ambiance and the grade pending in the window.

Small cake shop with just limited choices. I decided to try this location due to Instagram influencer. I'm surprised both locations are list surviving off selling limited cakes. I bought red velvet and carrot cake with raisins and nuts. They have plain options for allergy concerns. Both cakes were moist but lacked the flavor. The best part was the icing. Reasonable price for giant slices but the influencers over hyped the flavor. Unless they have a different pallet than me but I'm pretty refined. I'd still support since it's a long time black owned business but the recipe needs to be adjusted for consistency. However I liked the red velvet the most.

Stopped over in Harlem to grab a few slices for a friend's birthday and an 8" cake for my mom. I called ahead to see if there would still be cakes available arriving 30 minutes before they close, at 7pm. While the 10" cake require a 2 day advance notice, there were plenty of 8" cakes available. Two options of carrot cakes are available on the menu. There is a plain version and with/without nuts and raisins. Get the walnuts and raisins. The single slices are generous and the cake is a dense, muffin-like texture. This cake is very moist and not overly sweet, the natural sweetness from the carrots shine through each bite. There's a beautiful caramelization and molasses richness on the bottom of the cake. The raisins provide moisture and added sweetness. There is no single overpowering spice like cinnamon, nutmeg, or clove that you find in other carrot cakes. The flavor is balanced and mild. The thick layer of cream cheese icing is light on the cream cheese, which removes the sometimes tangy flavor you get from day a New York cheese cake. The cake held up well while I traveled from 99th st to 18th and sat through a two hour performance to trek back to Jersey with it. The Lloyd's in Harlem felt bare bones, with limited space and a chair where a customer could rest. But this is a walk up, order, and leave type of location. I was surprised at the amount of inventory available so late in the day. It was nice to see a variety of options like coconut and strawberry cake available, but I was there for the carrots! There was a staff of three when I arrived. Two appeared to be mixing while one was more front of house. The man who took my order seemed to be the same who answered the phone to help me out an hour before making the journey. He was friendly and efficient with my order. Cakes are stacked along the walls and get neatly tied with bakery string. The plastic bag packaging has a firm bottom which helped the cake survive the subway and bus travel without breaking or tilting.

The carrot cake is really great. The whole family loved it, ate the whole thing. We get it without the icing, strongly recommend.

There was no place to sit down because of how busy it was but the staff kept the line moving quick enough. The place still seemed reasonably stocked with their desserts and treats, despite the late afternoon time that I arrived. I ordered 4 different treats to go and they're packed in small box individually. Unfortunately, they didn't quite stay intact during my trek back to my hotel and were tumbled around in the boxes. Nonetheless, the taste and flavors held up well and even after a few days in the fridge. The yuzu daisy has this vivid pastel yellow-pink base and adorable gelatinous yellow gem atop a white flower. The yuzu gives a subtle infusion of tart that is balanced out by the light delicate skin texture of the rest. Sitting atop a thin round rice crispy. I loved the red mushroom one which is a creamy pink mousse inside the cap. The stalk is a thin porcelain-white chocolate light base also filled with a rich cream. Adjacent are two cute little tree nuts. The orange and mango have such vivid colors and are aesthetically pleasing too. Just like the previous ones, their delicate chocolate exterior houses a rich tarty mousse-y filling. I think the mushroom has a better balance and variety of flavors. Although I don't eat mousse treats often, I look forward to trying some of the other ones in the future, like the blueberry, banana and cloud.

Today I decided to make a special trip to go here to grab a few goodies. I forgot how small the place was and how low the ceilings were. That wasn't an issue though. The place was nice and cakes were stacked neatly. What was surprising to me is that they don't have any cookies laid in the front display. It's all placed in the back almost hidden. I was deeply disappointed with their cookie selection. It was deeply surprising that they don't sell the butter cookies that had jam in the middle and dipped with chocolate on one side with sprinkles. I did ask the clerk and even showed him a pic of what I was looking for and he said they never sold them. They only had the linzer cookies and they didn't look so good. They also did not have the lobster tail. They did have the sfogliatelle which they also called a lobster tail. I thought they were not the same? Some bakeries sell both and they are definitely not the same. I did end up buying one of their sfogliatelle with cream and some rugelachs. The sfogliatelle was good but the rugelachs tasted slightly underbaked. It did taste fresh though unlike many I've had in other bakeries. However, for $28 per pound, I wouldn't get it again. For those not having lobster tail and not having the Italian cookies, I will have to give Veniero's a low rating. I never thought an Italian bakery would not carry staples. Very disappointed. I need to find another Italian bakery now.
