Was a solid first experience with carrot cake! It definitely was better than I'd imagine but wasn't exactly my preference in flavor. The cake could use extra sugar, it wasn't sweet enough, and could be softer/more moist as it was pretty tough/bumpy/hard. Love the icing though. Also nice touch of personalized birthday message if you want. Pretty good deal, it was $35 for a huge cake which I've never seen before (I forgot how big it was, probably at least 8in?). The delivery made the cake turn out not centered though which was a bit of a bummer.

They have moved a few feet up the block to take over a much more spacious corner spot. Now has seating and its a nice place to have a seat and enjoy their terrific carrot cake and a coffee.

Plain Carrot Cake. (I added crushed walnuts on my own)

The plain carrot cake was perfectly balanced -- not too sweet, super moist, and honestly good enough to eat with just your fingers. The staff was friendly and welcoming, and they quickly helped me choose the right size cake for a birthday (10-inch for the win!). The ambiance isn't exactly Instagram-worthy. Floors were a bit messy, and the "uniform" is basically whatever they rolled in wearing. It definitely feels like incredible cakes are being created in a humble, hole-in-the-wall spot. One tip: I grabbed walnuts and birthday decorations from Dollar Tree and added the walnuts on top -- game changer. The carrot cake flavor jumps up a level with that added crunch. So good, it feels like it should come standard. Would I go back? Absolutely -- that carrot cake is worth it. But next time, I'm definitely requesting more cream cheese frosting because it was a little stingy this round.

The hype is real! Yummy carrot cake, not too sweet and the perfect treat. They even have cupcakes :)

My girlfriend got me a carrot cake for my birthday from here! She also got two individual cakes as well to try! With all the talk about this place, the carrot cake was pretty good! Was moist and not too sweet! Wish they added more frosting though! The two individual cakes were pineapple and strawberry layer cakes! The pineapple tasted better! What I didn't like was they were too dense! Would I buy the carrot cake again? Yes! Would I buy the layer cakes? No!

Heard some hype by word-of-mouth and had to go in myself. Small space, grab-and-go type of place. Candidly, the worker was cheerless and dismal, but it seemed like the type of energy where you knew the food would be exceptionally delicious. And it was! Huge huge fan of the walnut and raisin-less carrot cake option. I appreciate a more soft, mushy texture. I do wish their other cake options were also sitting at room temperate so that I could readily enjoy those flavors as quickly. Had to wait a little bit to enjoy the strawberry cake.

Lloyd's Carrot Cake 1553 Lexington Ave. New York, NY 10029 Carrot Cake It's not a mystery of what you plan to buy as soon as you enter the store. For a reasonable price and a small up charge for the toppings, I was very pleased. The cake was chilled and moist with the perfect ratio of frosting topped with nuts & raisins.

Lloyd's Carrot Cake is where people come for the best carrot cakes in New York City. They sell the plain slice for $5 and the carrot cake with nuts and raisins for $5.50. Cakes are baked and frosted on-site. The carrot cake slice is dense and moist, and the carrots provide a really rich taste. The classic cream cheese frosting is a little on the sweeter end, but the carrot cake itself is not too sweet, so it pairs really well. I really like the nuts and the raisins for the added texture and flavor. Prices: $5 plain slice $5.50 slice w/ nuts & raisins * Baked with or without walnuts and raisins, and topped with their signature cream cheese frosting * 2 locations: Harlem & the Bronx * They also sell red velvet cake, pineapple-coconut cake, strawberry-coconut cake, and different types of chocolate cake, as well as cupcakes and muffins

It's relevant for me to cite that Lloyd's was referred by a longtime resident of the Bronx, and Llyod's is a staple to the BX community. I took their recommendation to heart and decided to order a carrot cake in advance of National Carrot Cake Day. I placed my order via email with no credit card required, so that let me know they are old school and live on the honor code (I liked that). I arrived Saturday morning from New Jersey to pick up my order (carrot cake and coconut cake), which were ready. The storefront was a bit old, and the inside was small, crowded and not as sanitary as I would hope to see a bakery. There were multiple teens working, which was very nice to see. They accept major credit cards and apple pay, and of course cash. For two cakes it was about $51. MOMENT OF TRUTH...the cakes did not live up to the hype. It was pure dough and lots of sugar. It was a let down. I wish I would have taste tested with a slice before committing to not one but 2 whole cakes.

Really cute family run bakery. Loved the carrot cake. Also got the red velvet to try. It's easily accessible by 6 train.

Famous for a reason! This cake was exactly what I hoped- simple, moist carrot cake. No frills, but for the reasonable price point, i'm game!

So fun fact they are now advertising Banana Pudding Hot Chocolate and it is NOT actual hot chocolate but banana pudding made to taste like hot chocolate. Why I got so confused? I don't know! Maybe I have been watching too many videos about Tyra Banks Hot Ice Cream. Either way I appreciate the guys patience and kindness when explaining it to me twice especially because I did not end up ordering that at all (though it sounds interesting) but I did get the regular actual hot chocolate and it was amazing! It tasted like melted marshmallows were in it! Perfect for a cold winter day. In addition we got to the humming bird cake, a cupcake, and the regular banana pudding. My husband had never been here before so you know we had to get the banana pudding, it's their claim to fame. And it is decent. Growing up in North Carolina banana pudding is taken very seriously and is literally at every gathering. Would this be a contender for the cookout? Sure! I have no complaints about. The other baked items were delicious as well. The store is cute unfortunately this location has no indoor seating but plenty of outdoor. It was like negative degrees when we went so we definitely did not sit outside. All and all it's a cute bakery/ sweets shop. There are many locations through out the city. I've been to others and it is consistent. It's definitely not a bad dessert spot to try.

While the presentation was 10/10 across the board, the flavors ranged from "nostalgic perfection" to "a bit of a letdown." Devil Dog (The Winner): This was by far my favorite. It was a trip down memory lane, perfectly capturing that nostalgic Hostess chocolate cupcake flavor I loved as a kid. Lemon Raspberry Meringue: Coming in a close second, this cupcake was bright, fruity, and incredibly fresh. It felt light and offered a great balance to the richer flavors in the box. Ube: This cupcake was stunning to look at. However, the flavor didn't quite live up to the exotic profile of a purple yam; it tasted like a traditional vanilla cupcake that just happened to be purple. Great for the aesthetic, but standard in taste. Hummingbird: This was the only real disappointment. I was expecting the signature tropical punch of pineapple, but it lacked that acidity. Instead, it felt more like a simple banana nut muffin with icing on top. Final Verdict: Overall, the experience was positive. The shop clearly has a talent for decor and nostalgia. I'd definitely return for the Devil Dog and the Lemon Raspberry, but I might skip the Hummingbird next time. Last Note: The woman working in the bakery was a bit rude and had an attitude and that alone will make me not com back no matter how good the cupcakes are.

While I'm not the biggest cupcake fan, they have a nice selection of cakes, bars, and other things for pretty reasonable prices, especially in Midtown. The staff are also friendly. The most recent time, I got a Ube Buttercake Bar for $4.25, or something very similar. As per the name, it is made with ube, or purple yam, and it has a slight purplish hue. It was just a bit rich, had a soft texture inside, and had a very mild ube flavor with a bit of vanilla. The dessert was decent, but not strong enough of a ube flavor for me to buy it again. Much better was the Brookie I got the first time for $4.50 or so, listed as a blend of their Ooey Gooey Chocolate Chip Cookie Bar and Fudge Brownie. I was happy that the chocolate chip part was dark chocolate, and it wasn't overly sweet. Otherwise, it had a nice mix of textures, with some soft and crunchier parts. I liked it a lot more. The prices here are decent enough, and the quality isn't that bad. It's not a place I would go out of my way to go to, but it's nice to be nearby if I want to pick up a snack or something similar.
