I had the blackened chicken Mac and cheese and it was one of the best meals I've had in a long time. It was super rich and flavorful and exploded deliciousness in every bite I took. This was amazing! I got the steak sandwich. Jim (The Owner) asked me how I wanted my steak cooked. I knew then that I made the right choice eating here. I asked for medium rare. Not an easy feat on a 6oz steak. It came out perfect! The steak was so tender it was easy to bite into and blended really well with the gorgonzola cheese and dressing. The bun was soft and fresh. Steak sandwich came with a side of fries, as it should. I will never understand places that charge you over ten bucks for a sandwich and not even give ya fries with it. The fries were crispy and pretty much perfect. I was offered a variety of dipping sauce choices to go with them. Jim was super friendly, and I really enjoyed interacting with him. I lived in the Portland area for over 40 years so have seen the rise of food trucks. And I don't often "do meat" for a number of reasons, not the least of which it can be overdone, dry, etc. That is NOT the case with Loaded Food Cart. I had the Chicken Bruschetta sandwich which, like the diced tomato, onion, basil, EVVO-topped tasty toasted bread name suggests, is perfectly toasted! But the chicken, the chicken...was one of the most tender, perfectly seasoned and perfectly-cook I have every had in my life. And I think it was only $11! I suspect ALL their food is treated as good as this, but if you're starting out, do as I did; get the Chicken Bruschetta sandwich! Simply amazing. I found this food cart tucked in the back of Cartlandia. The menu intrigued me right away - the descriptions read like a proper chef came up with the menu, yet the prices were extremely reasonable! I tried the Bruschetta Chicken Sandwich - it was out of this world. Perfectly seared and seasoned chicken, amazing flavors from the balsamic aioli, pesto, and bruschetta. The ciabatta roll it comes on was fluffy and toasted nicely. Everything including the fries was restaurant quality. The proprietor of the cart is very friendly as well. Ok, reality check. No way this food is that good. Impossible. Especially the price of it. Confused why the new food pod owner was so excited that he got #Loaded food cart. Again, highly skeptical. My wife was trained by the top executive chefs in L.A. - people must have a low bar. That was my firm thought. None-the-less, really curious. Finally the cart opens and we show up. Right behind a couple who drove from 100 miles away. Huh? Come on. We'll order and then be done with it. Except we made the mistake of eating it. Holy ....!! Unbelievable. And when people say you get a lot of food - believe it. Two people and we had to bring food home. We only got one dinner. Superb. As in better than an ultra famous restaurant several blocks away. Crushed that restaurant. The other table had people from L.A. Virginia and Maryland. We saw them taking pictures of the food. Just try it. Use your judgement. This is one of my favorite places in Portland. Every single dish is next level, party in your mouth, living in your dreams till next visit, haunting. I thought I was going to miss out on the flavor party by getting the chicken salad, but my belly desperately needed the greens. So I was blown away yet again by the experience. Perfectly cooked freshly breaded and seasoned chicken tenders, beautiful crisp greens and a variety nicely chopped fresh veggies all tossed in honey dijon. I was over the moon. We had to crawl toward the back of Cartlandia to find this gem, but the wandering was worth it. Currently tucked behind the blue moon bar, Chef Jim's Loaded food cart offers a menu that is robust in flavor, yet refreshingly thoughtful in menu selection - one unhindered by any one ethnic cuisine, while somehow simultaneously inclusive of all. During my initial peruse of the menu, a gentleman began raving about the prawn taco's , which I must try next time, and the coconut basmati rice sounds quite intriguing. In the end, My wife and I both indulged in the steak salad. Parsley and garlic sang in harmony together in the chimichurri sauce. This viridian sauce, made in-house, was fresh and burst with flavor, balancing well with the savory and buttery top sirloin. Though no one ingredient seemed to be competing for the spotlight in Chef Jim's salad, making each bite as tasty as the one before. My daughter had the Chicken Mac, though she did not have it blackened. Unfortunately, her palate only accept Kraft Mac n Cheese apparently, (she's 4 and adorable) and I was "forced" to finish her plate. The blend of cheeses (I believe it was white cheddar, Parmesan and .... Fontina? I can't remember...) was De. Ca. Dent. The chicken was moist and my only regret was not having it blackened, daughter's sensitive taste buds be damned. No, wait - my only other regret was not having a $600 camera to take a photo of the plates for a food blog (I have neither camera nor blog). You'll just have to trust text over pixels in this case. So, I was looking for Pupusas and A chef saw me wondering in circles and kindly pointed me in the right direction, a cart right next door to his food truck. I ordered the Pupusas and then sat down, and started to check out the Loaded food cart menu.... Everything looks so damn good....I just couldn't resist. It started with a triple berry scone freshly baked sitting on top of a pillowy pile, right there in the window, still warm, I just couldn't refuse. That SCONE was the best I've ever had. It was moist and the blueberry sweet goodness was just so dang yummy, wow. After talking with the chef I decided on the chicken bruschetta sandwich.... And GOOD GRACIOUS... I received the to go box with a pile of hot french fries, cuddling up to a perfectly toasted focaccia... it was looking good. Upon the first bite, the pesto kissed tamoto'ee tender chicken breast was perfectly flavored and prepared, THIS GUY KNOWS WHAT HE IS DOING, DAMN!!! I typically like my sandwiches soaking wet, I mean I got to eat them in a rain jacket, but this was perfect, not over sauced but definitely enough to satisfy my needs, so to speak. A great sandwich. There's a lot of stuff on the menu that I look forward to making the 4 to 5 mile trip back to sample. All the other stuff on the menu looks crazy good.... First time we had been to Cartlandia, but I'd researched ahead of time and we definitely wanted to try Loaded. The owner was working by himself, but had everything prepped so it only took him about 10-15 minutes to make our order of three meals and appetizer (forgot what they were called-sooo yummy). Everything was pretty fantastic. We requested the steak for my son's sandwich to be medium (he asked how we wanted it done), and it was definitely more like medium-well to well done, but it was still pretty tasty and fairly tender..my son demolished his sandwich. The pesto prawn Mac was amazing-humongous prawns cooked perfectly. The owner is impressive, managing it all by himself and he even stated he'd be baking more cookies that night when he got home for the next day because he ran out of a couple flavors. He must work 24/7! He was very nice and on a Saturday at 6:45, not too crowded, tho he did steady business. We'd definitely go back! read more
