I can't believe I haven't tried Mi Ranchito until now! I am such a huge fan - I think the…read morerestaurant is beautiful, both the inside and outside. Service is super friendly and the menu is so much fun - so many different options - both breakfast and lunch/dinner. This is one of those places that makes you just love Austin. I want to go back and try so many different things. The breakfast items I had were all fantastic! Migas, pancakes, tacos etc. I both recommend Mi Ranchito to local friends as well as will absolutely take my friends and family that visit to. Def on my Austin faves list!

Very loud inside, a bit hard to hear even at the register…read more They hand you a menu and then you pass by the register to order and then have a seat. We eventually moved outside where it was much quieter but humid. We ordered a mole enchilada plate and a flauta plate. When they brought our food and asked about napkins, silverware, condiments, etc., and then we were told oh you have to get up and go back inside and get them yourselves. This was after we had left a tip at the register. So, be sure before you sit down you get your silverware napkins and condiments. No one pointed that out as we checked out and paid and left a tip. The lady at the register seemed very friendly, but she had to ask someone to substitute french fries for my refried beans and they seemed very reluctant to do so. Not sure why I told him it's OK just put the beans on it, but they finally relented and gave me fries instead of refried beans.. I have to say my mole enchiladas were barely above room temperature. The flavor was OK but nothing else standing. The fries also had that kind of frozen flavor like they've been in the freezer for a long time before being cooked. The flautas were pretty good, but again nothing outstanding. Overall, I would say we had an average lunch. It was nice to try somewhere new but I'm not sure. I would drive out the way to go back.

Much better visit and what we expect from Texican Cafe. Chips were fresh and crispy and the salsa…read morehad the perfect amount of heat. I was in the mood for tortilla soup and boy did the delivery. Other restaurants have shrunk their bowl, but Texican has not! (See pic.) It was 5:30 on a Saturday, but fortunately we beat the rush and were seated quickly. Service was good. The food came out much more quickly this time.

This place should be called Texican't Mexican Bar and cafe. I guess they can't screw up the drinks…read morewhich is good because I think you have to be inebriated to order from the kitchen. I'll admit that I'm not a big fan of Mexican, Tex-Mex or other southern methods of food preparation. Judy is! She's the professional dietician, cookbook collector and best judge of foods quality, composition, and presentations. So I ordered my standard shrimp fajitas, no guacamole, no regurgitated beans, no pica de gallo, just rice and flour tortillas. The sizzling platter came to the table smoking hot with everything on the platter burnt to destruction. Judy, on the other hand ordered the full plate. One of their dinner "Plato's" where everything looks smashed together with all the things I don't like. But she is the "Foodie" and loves ethnic foods. She rates this place much lower than I did only had burnt shrimp and vegetable with a cup of the worst rice a mouse ever ran from. This place is definitely on our "one and done" list. I hope you have a better experience than we do so please drink up this food needs rethinking.

Initially, we were unsure of what to expect, but the place had good reviews and the food had an authentic feel. Service was great, we were greeted almost immediately and never had to wait to order anything! The salsas were delicious, a spicy green creamy sauce with a kick, and a more mild red sauce with flavor! I also ordered an horchata which tasted sweet but not too overpowering, and the 5 mini tacos, that really hit the spot after a late night out with friends! Definitely recommend checking out if in the area, especially after enjoying the local bars around.

It wouldn't have been so bad except that there's really not much room in the waiting area. The place is pretty small inside and there really is no place for all the people waiting. They had a consistent line to order food the whole time we were there so it's obviously a very popular place but it would probably be a much better idea to call in your order or eat at the restaurant. We got the three tacos special and a migas plate. My favorite was the potatoes, but overall the food was pretty flavorful. I would definitely eat there again!
