I like the vibe of this place. Not too busy. Nestled in a building. Loved the breakfast options.

Line up was a bit awkward.. you're kind of forced to stand outside if it's more than 3 people, and then when you're in you have a short time to look at the menu or food case. Got the Jeremy sandwich which was full of flavour and my husband got the ham egg breakfast sandwich. Both great! Our drinks were pleasant. We also bought the churro croissants which were unique and pretty good! Lots of seating outdoors, not too much indoors. Staff friendly. Quick interaction.

Where have I been all this time????? And I am a devoted "dog mom", so this place is totally right down my alley! It's tucked away, though, and not so easy to find if you've never been here before, but it's SO worth the time to find it and visit! Hands down, this is the most dog-friendly place I think I've ever been to. Photos of patrons' dogs plaster the walls. Dog notices are posted everywhere. I believe this cafe was named for the owner's Great Dane. People bring their dogs here. It's as dog-friendly as they come. And I love that. The coffee and pastries are fantastic. I hear the lunch sandwiches are good, too. My friend has been here often and says it's consistently good. My biggest issue with this place is the lack of seating. In the summer, sure, you can sit outside on the various concrete half-walls and benches, and there's a large outdoor patio area with a lot of tables and chairs, but in the winter, or on rainy days, there are very few tables and seats here. FYI.

The curries aren't what you'd get at a proper Indian or Thai restaurant but they're still very tasty. My favourite is the Shahi Paneer - love the heaping of thick, rich sauce - but all that I've tried are good. They have a regular and large size available, but the regular is plenty, especially if you add naan. You can get 2 curries in one bowl for no extra charge. The grilled veggie panini is also great, with fresh ingredients. Haven't tried the fresh sandwich bar yet because I love the curry/panini so much and always want to go back for more. The desserts are also really good. Some of the stuff seems to sometimes be available at some UBC food service locations so I guess it's not all made by them, but they have a few things I haven't seen elsewhere. There are a few things that are more snack-size, but most of the cookies/bars are huge. I have not tried their coffee but the tea they use is good quality. Gets super busy at lunch hour and it can be a little confusing to know where the line is because they have so many counters and it's crowded, but the staff is super helpful if you don't know where to go. Staff is friendly and usually pretty efficient. They've also been chill the few times that I've stopped in minutes before closing which has been much appreciated.

This is a new food outlet in a new building at UBC that offers a quick shopping stop for just about…read moreanything. The ready-to-eat end of the store features sandwiches, pizza, salads, baked goods, a breakfast (AM)/salad (PM) bar, and a coffee bar. There are vegan options and gluten-free options. Most of the GF stuff looks to be actually safe for those who have serious gluten intolerance since it's in sealed packaging and appears to be made in an outside kitchen. I was looking forward to having somewhere new to go since I've spent many years involved with UBC in some way and frequented the heck out of most every decent cafe on campus. My first experiences have unfortunately been pretty lacklustre. Baked goods: The peanut butter chocolate chip cookie was super dry and crumbly. Chocolate almond biscotto was pretty good - crunchy but not brittle. The GF muffin was kind of dry (I get it, it's GF, but I've had GF muffins with great texture so I know it's possible) but was still okay. My biggest issue wasn't the muffin itself, it was that they had all the GF muffins in a basket together with no other labelling as to what kind of muffin they were and you couldn't really tell from looking, so I was making an educated guess as to what else would likely be in the muffin I was grabbing with the oats and seeds on top. It turned out to be cranberries which was good. Pizza: Vegan margherita wasn't bad because the crust was great and the vegan cheese was fine which is 2/3 of the equation, but the sauce was seemingly totally unseasoned which gave it a very cafeteria-like quality. Also there were like 3 1/2 basil leaves for the entire pizza. Sandwich: Got a tuna salad sandwich from the fridge. Again not bad but just an assembly problem. I really like the multigrain seed bread but the slices were a little too thick which made the sandwich very bread-y, and the tuna salad was lumped in the middle instead of spread out evenly so the outer bites of sandwich have nothing between the bread. Drinks: Good, I think. I tried a matcha latte with spiced brown sugar syrup and a decaf americano. The matcha was a little clumpy but passable and the spiced brown sugar syrup was very nice. The americano was good. Besides the extensive options for ready-to-eat food, the grocery selection is decent, comparable to what you might find at a small drugstore. In general the brands available are high quality but a lot of the produce looks like stuff you'd only want to buy if you were going to use it immediately. If you were living on campus it would be a very convenient place to grab a few things in an emergency but not a substitute for an actual grocery/produce store. They're trying out self checkout here which works fine for groceries but is really confusing for the coffee bar. The first time I visited, I tried to tell my order to the barista, but they told me to use the self checkout and give them the receipt. The next time I wanted to order a drink, I went immediately to the self checkout and started to use it, but then the barista came over and swivelled the screen around and took my order normally. If you order food from the deli, you place the order with the employee there and they give you the food with a barcode on it to scan at the checkout. So you can't really order hot food and drinks/pastries at the same time, you have to wait for your hot food to be prepared and then go checkout and wait for drinks. Wait time has been minimal for me because I've been going at off-times, but I imagine this would be really annoying at lunchtime on a weekday. I guess it shouldn't be surprising that the food isn't the most refined given it's campus food, but I am disappointed because I think the food is better at the other locations of both Harvest (Ponderosa Commons) and Hero (Orchard Commons).

So expensive for no reason. You end up spend 5x the amount for anything. Go to Great Dane insteadread more

It seems to be a family-run business and they offer an eclectic assortment of food and drink: the standard coffee shop fare of sandwiches, baked goods, and coffee/tea, plus milkshakes, smoothies, tteok bokki, and some interesting desserts to round it out. I was pleasantly surprised by the high quality of everything I ordered! I got the Pesto Melt Bagel, Tiramisu, and an Apple Cider. The bagel was grilled lightly (any less would have been not enough, but I liked the way they did it, which gave it a little crispness and warmth without loosing the fresh texture), the tomatoes were fresh, and it wasn't too oily, which is sometimes a problem for me on this type of sandwich. The tiramisu was nice and a little bit different from the usual since it was more like a trifle or parfait than a cake slice. I liked the custardy mascarpone layers and the syrupy espresso sauce at the bottom. Finally, the apple cider was really good. It came with a piece of dried apple and lemon slice and had a spicy flavour, and was sweetened tastefully. The prices are pretty fair (cheaper than other UBC coffee shops). The shop itself is really cozy - it feels like walking into a home - they have lots of couches in addition to regular tables and chairs, and there's also seating upstairs which I didn't check out. The staff also seem to be very nice. I do think it would be nice if they had more vegetarian sandwiches, but otherwise I'm really happy to have finally tried this place, and definitely will be back again.
