I love ice cream in general and Loards I been going to since I was a kid. The banana split I got was good, I'm just trying to swallow the $13.95 price no pun intended haha. I'm also trying to get over the size which is called "super special". Umm super tiny is more like it haha. Im 6'6" and to call the smallest banana split I have ever had super special is comedy. But thats just my opinion. With that said I enjoyed it, I would have enjoyed it more at half the price but I know prices are changing so I'm trying to adjust, be patient with me, Im a slow learner haha. This particular Loards is located in the middle of a walk way. You have to park and walk alittle not much. I need to try all their other options. I always get the banana split. I came back, and they still have a ton of different flavors offered. They limit it to 2 samples, so choose wisely. I ultimately opted for a double scoop, mocha almond fudge and matcha. Mocha almond fudge: I liked the texture and that it's not as sweet due to the coffee and chocolate combo, it's a good flavor if you like some crunch. Matcha: It doesn't have as strong of a savory and slightly bitter taste as some places' matcha ice cream, but it was still pretty good. Loards is absolutely adorable. It's like stepping back in time with the decor they have. There's also plenty of seating outside. I needed a sweet treat after dinner so we got single scoops. They had a huge menu! A lot of classics but a lot of Asian inspired flavors like ube and pandan. They also had large sundae menu and I would love to try their black and tan one day. I got their cookies and cream. The ice cream itself was rich and creamy but not which cookie dough in my opinion. I only had like 2 or 3 cookie dough balls in them. I'm used to places like salt and straw and fentons that are heavy handed with their mix ins. A single scoop is about 5.50 which I I suppose is normal price now a days. I love coming to Loard's whenever I'm in Alameda! The ice cream is decently priced and absolutely delicious. My husband and I would share the black and white sundae since he only likes vanilla ice cream and chocolate ice cream is my absolute favorite. The texture is just a little softer than how I typically like it, but it's still good quality ice cream! Having been here a few times, I can say that the staff is always so helpful and patient. They're generous with the samples, which is great because they have some unique Asian flavors. Somehow I had no idea this was in the South Shore Shopping Center until now! I was drawn in my the cute decor and merch that they have displayed. The shop itself has a very pink theme and they color coordinate well! I was almost overwhelmed by how many flavors they had until I saw Ube & Buko Pandan! Classic Filipino flavors that I was definitely surprised to see here. I sampled them both and was pleased to find out that it brought me tons of nostalgia. Loard's is a Bay Area classic. I've been going to this location since I was a kid. Plenty of parking for this location, you can probably grab a bite to eat at any of the restaurants at South Shore or go shopping before grabbing a scoop. My favorite thing to get here is the buko pandan ice cream. They don't have pre-packed buko pandan unfortunately and they may or may not sell you a pound of it. They seem to have limited stock of it and this flavor is offered at any of the Loards locations nearby. They have booths if you want to sit and enjoy your cone nearby. read more

Tastewise it reminded me a bit of Breyers/Dreyers ice cream but a bit creamier. They also sell Hello Kitty merchandise and have a few toy vending machines for the kids. My party and I arrived just before closing and were met with super friendly and considerate service. The gentleman working in the front carried an approach that made us feel like we were engaging in a very different time period. He was courteous, well spoken, and made you feel appreciated. My wife and I ordered a triple scoop to try out multiple flavors and both really enjoyed our Bubble Gum, Horchata, and Blueberry Cheesecake concoction. The Bubble Gum in particular had to be among the best flavored Bubble Gum ice cream we've had. To top it off the place had this super uplifting feel in the room which was something I don't think I've felt at the South Shore shopping center before. The universe (and climate change) conspired to turn the first week of October in the Bay Area into a blast furnace of a heat wave. So with consecutive days in the 90's and nights in the 80's, I made haste to find an ice cream shop for some relief. Loard's is one of the three pillars of original, old school ice cream parlors in the East Bay (Fenton's and Tucker's being the other two). Loards has the most storefronts however, so it makes it easier to find a shop close by. In my nearly 30 years of visiting Loard's, I never leave disappointed. (But I mean let's be honest, what kind of a maniac is unhappy in an ice cream shop?) As I was melting from the heat outside, I decided I needed a liquid ice cream delivery system tonight. So I ordered a chocolate malted milkshake with extra malt, no whipped cream. Looking around the shop as I waited, everything was clean, bright, spacious, and pleasant. All of my ice cream shop vibes got checked off: retro colors and design, sweet smell of ice cream in the air, familiar flavors and sundae combinations. Even a crane game in the back. And the powerful air conditioning on an 83°F night was welcoming. My server was friendly and fast and delivered an ice cold cup of chocolate joy into my hand. I also grabbed a pint of ube macapuno ice cream for later. You're hard pressed to NOT find a flavor to your liking at Loard's. Whether you like smooth, chunky, traditional, original, simple or involved, year-round flavors or seasonal, you will find a flavor to love. Walking out of the shop, my cup immediately started sweating. I however was not after a few sips of my deliciously rich and thick malted chocolate shake. Loard's is a Bay Area institution with retro vibes and outstanding ice cream & service. I myself walked in tonight grumpy and hot and walked out smiling and cool(er). The decor is very retro and gives off old school ice cream parlor vibes- which I love! They are cash or card only, no Apple Pay. Only one person was on duty, and service was quick and prompt. 1 scoop Coffee, 1 scoop Chocolate Mint I would say these were two medium sized scoops for $6.95 Overall, this is a fair price for good quality, dense and rich ice cream. It has no after taste, and it's not watery. There's several choices for ice cream and frozen yogurt in Alameda, but do you want to drive there? Loard's Ice Cream is in the Southshore Shopping Center. Between Trader Joes and Applebee's there's a walkway. Loard's is down that walkway, on the rightside, just pass Applebee's. Free parking and near bus stops. The space inside was really cute and there was plenty of seating inside of it and right outside of the shop. They had some candies and things you can also buy along with the ice cream. The customer service was really good. I tried three types of ice cream flavors in the sugar cones: cookies and cream, almond toffee, and sea salt carmel. The sugar cone itself was good. The ice cream itself was creamy and had a good texture. However, in my opinion all of the flavors had a banana flavor to them. They didn't have a lot flavor or things mixed in. This is my second Loard's review/visit this week! Does that tell you something about how much I love this business? I came in on a busy Friday afternoon. There was a long line that extended outside of the door, no surprise there. There were only two attendants scooping and ringing people up. They were working at a bit of a slow pace but no one seemed to complain. The lobby area was cramped--merch lining up the counter walls, freezers on the opposite wall with pre-packed ice cream, and just a skinny overall front area where the line was situated. For this, I didn't feel as comfortable waiting in line at this Loard's location. The service being a bit slow made the cramped area a bit more noticeable, to me anyway. It was finally my turn. "Double scoop, cake cone, one Rocky Road and one Coconut Pineapple, please." The man scooped my requested ice cream flavors and mentioned that the flavors I chose work well with the cake cone for double scoops. Okay. The ice cream was delicious as normal-suuuuuper creamy, tasty and rich. The Rocky Road had the right amount of bits and pieces of marshmellows and nuts, and of course the chocolate ice cream was decadent. The Coconut Pineapple was perfect as normal, striking the right balance between Coconut and Pineapple flavors. True perfection! I always enjoy Loard's Ice Cream whenever I have it. The flavors are consistent between locations and is much appreciated. However this location is just a bit too cramped for my liking. Getting ice cream shouldn't include this kind of stress, hah! I'll just keep going to their Marina location instead. read more

What, they have PANDAN? Love Pandan! I can't remember ever seeing Pandan ice cream before! They also had ube! Mom tried a sample of the Pandan and Toasted Almond but ended up getting the Buko Pandan. She said the actual almond pieces in the toasted almond were soft and not crunchy so she opted for the Pandan. I tried some of the Pandan and it was good. Had little Pandan jelly pieces in it too! I've been craving this for months now since basically all of my Asian supermarkets don't have any in stock. The flavor is "corn cheese" which is the literal translation. Sounds gross but tastes yum. Pieces of corn and shredded cheese enveloped in a sweet light milky-cheese ice cream. What I got was a cake cone with this flavor but omg I don't think its popular because it tasted so freezer burned! It was gross like I couldn't taste any flavor in the ice cream at all. My boyfriend got the guava ice cream and I tried it.. tasted like straight milk. I didn't detect any type of fruity flavor from it at all.
