I am SO happy Loard's has re-opened! I've been going since I was a little girl and was super bummed when they closed. It's the only place that my grandpa would get ice cream, black raspberry, and I would get it every time to remember him and because the flavor is delicious. When I found out they reopened, it was during the shelter-in-place and while I was 6 months pregnant making it difficult to go out places. Then I was told that Loard's was delivering in Alameda for only $2! I was ecstatic and called right away (pretty late in the evening too) and Tim was super helpful spelling out the full website and promised delivery later that night. It was well worth it and last night we ordered again. There were some issues with my order and Tim called helping me through it and provided delivery the same night. I'm so happy to have Loard's back and thankful for Tim and all his help. read more

"Gelatipop or Ube ice cream from Loard's? Gelato or Ube?" That was my thought process the whole time I was eating my early dinner at Applebee's and it was killing me. I had to peep the reviews on both places and after seeing all the delicious photos, I had to go with Loard's. Another day Gelatipop, I'll taste you one day! It was a pretty chilly day, a school day too so there wasn't any craziness when my boyfriend and I stopped by. The traditional candy/ice cream shop theme of Loard's was nice but the interior inside lacked an overall look. I'm not sure how long this place has been here but the inside was really spaced out and lacked a "pizazz" to it. I probably need to see how this place lights up when it gets busy, maybe they spaced everything out because it tends to be busy? Two ladies inside: one uninterested and the other enthusiastic enough to help us. As we were gazing at the menu board, I noticed the enthusiastic one was making fresh waffle cones! I knew I had to get my ube ice cream on a freshly made, hot, waffle cone... It just doesn't get any better than that. They give generous scoops, I wasn't paying much attention to the prices but for a single scoop on a cone and 2 scoops w/ jimmies in a cup came to $10+, a little steep in my opinion. UBE: now if you're Filipino or even have heard of the Philippine company called Magnolia's, you should know exactly how ube ice cream should taste like, this place doesn't come close to Magnolia's ube ice cream which was disappointing to me. Loard's ube was kind of on the bland side, I could distinctly taste the coconut and also a subtle taste of food coloring. Sad. But it's okay! I'll definitely come back and try their blueberry cheesecake that everyone has recommended. If you're unsure of a flavor, ask for a tasting! Also, I wish they displayed their ice cream's without the metal lid hiding the beautiful ice cream and their colors. But I also don't mind too much, it actually reminds me of the old school ice cream carts that would come around in our neighborhood when I was a kid in Philippines, ah, a little nostalgia just hit me. Major disappointment. I order Burgundy Cherry on a plain cone every time I come here and over the years the quantity of cherry chunks has declined. To my surprise this last cone on Wednesday did not have one piece of cherry in the entire scoop. Pissed on my ride home licking a cherry less cone. Suggest you rename your ice cream to just "Burgundy" cause it ain't got no cherry in it! Cherry Flavoring does not count. read more

Loard's is a 50's style ice cream parlor with over 20 locations in the Bay Area. Their ice cream is handmade, premium and made in the Bay Area. The Alameda location is the walkway between Trader Joe's and Applebees. It has about 6 pink and white booths and about another 6 little tables for two. They offer about 45 different flavors. In addition to the traditional flavors, they have many exotic flavors, such as halo-halo, macapuno, ube, ube-macapuno, sweet coconut, lychee and avocado. Tried sweet coconut today and it was rich tasting with bits of coconut. It was delicious. There was a line when we got there, but our wait was not too long. Cute old-fashion ice cream shop, nothing stellar but no red flags either. Conveniently located within the Alameda shopping center, a group of friends and I went in after some shopping. Interior reminded me of an ice cream parlor from 1950s-1960s- bright pink, cushioned booths, and other bright pops. They said that their most popular flavor was Ube- I tasted it but it didn't really taste like anything; it was more like a watered-down vanilla. Kudos to them, however, for having a wide range of different flavors. I felt bad for tasting so many but luckily the workers were patient. The workers had been on their phones when no one was inside, but at least they immediately got to business when people walked in and said goodbye when people were leaving. I ended up going with the Pecan Praline ice cream- it was nice to have some crunch from the nuts and praline, but overall it was rather sweet. I have a sweet tooth but I kinda passed out after. My personal test for ice cream shops is tasting their vanilla, since I consider it to be one of the simplest flavors to do. I tried it and again found it super sweet, so was a little disappointed. The poor kiddos heard all his rude comments regarding 6 feet distance. They were waiting patiently but just peeking at the glass to see the flavors they wanted to choose. Unfortunately, he started yelling at them and saying they have to wait for their turn and stay on the little dot. Yes seriously he thinks 5 kids should fit in the little dot. My cousins and I visited this place when we were hanging around Alameda -- we thought it would be great since we saw good ratings and have a love for ice cream. Came there, and the place was the complete opposite of what we expected. Venue was quite dirty, the line was long, and two of our orders for sundaes were messed up. Loard's has been around for awhile and I like this spot, where they have booths to sit. The ice cream is yummy and they have unusual flavors that I indulge in (with the help of a lactose pill). Since I can remember my family has come to Loards Ice cream, since before it was located where Apple Bee's is now. My grandma always loved lemon chiffon, mom loved her cherry vanilla and my brother and I loved the brownie nut fudge. Sometimes things were inconsistent and that is understandable, bc ice cream is fussy. But yesterday I went in to purchase ice cream for my mother and I, and my mothers ice cream tasted like it was freezer burned. Mind you the Lemon Chiffon I purchased was delicious and fresh. But again my mothers wasn't. Unfortunately when I brought it to her in the car we had already began driving back home and when she finally noticed that the flavor was off we were already half way to our destination and she had already began eating it. It was a long day so we decided not to go back but to instead call. It slipped my mind to call them, but then today when I received the email receipt I decided to call. I'm almost certain it was the owner. I've seen her hundreds of times. Anyways I told her just what I wrote here, how mine was delicious and my moms was not. Her response was, "well I haven't had any other complaints" not an apology, not an acknowledgement, not a refund or even a credit. She could really care less, in fact she sounded very defensive. I was trying to avoid insulting her, and that is why I shared with her my ice cream was delicious. But she could care less. Unfortunately we will never be giving her our business. It's really unfortunate that it had to come to this. From now on we will be going to the San Leandro Location. Poor customer service. read more

You can put it all in a tall plastic cup and just pile it on in there, I won't mind. I've been going to the Oakland location since I was a kid, but my dad lives down the street from this one, so I thought I'd give it a try. The location is fantastic, but the store itself doesn't fit in with the shopping center. It appears run down and nowhere near as nice as the surrounding stores and restaurants. I overlooked it since I intended to grab a cone and walk the rest of the shopping center. The line was literally out the door, but it moved s-l-o-w-l-y. Once it was my turn, I appreciated the level of service as I asked to taste a few flavors. They didn't make me feel like I needed to rush. The ice cream was good as always so no complaint there. Anyways, today's visit was good, the young Asian woman was nice, & quick to greet us and serve us. One scoop of green tea ice cream in a waffle cone, and one scoop of ube ice cream in a waffle cone. My green tea I-cream was just ok, nothing to die for, but the ube I-cream was the bomb I heard. Price was almost 10 bucks for the two ice creams. Came here with the family after eating a wonderful dinner in the area. They have so many different ice cream flavors so we were excited to try other things.
