If I could give no stars I would! Went to loard's ice cream with my boyfriend because he normally loves the one in Livermore! We show up on a Saturday at 12:10 pm and they had their open sign on and door open, my boyfriend and are are excited to walk in when a worker comes from mountains mikes next door and yells "We're closed!". I proceeded to ask why they had their door open and they said they were "airing out the restaurant". The open sign was on, and there was no sign in the front saying they were closed. There door was also wide open while the worker sat in front of mountain mikes! She was very rude, we will not be coming back! read more

On this lovely day, we decided to get some ice cream. Loard's was close by and they have ample, free parking. We walked through the door and were greeted by the sweetest girl ever, Jasmine. Jasmine makes this ice cream parlor shine!! She was very helpful with my barrage of questions. She was also very patient with my daughter who was taking a long time to decide what she wanted to eat. The variety of flavors looked so good; no wonder it was difficult to make a choice. She provides us with the best customer service ever. I can't wait to visit Loard's again! read more

Unfortunately i will not be returning. I came here for the ice cream and asked for a cone and couple scoops of ice cream. When the man behind the counter went in to scoop i noticed he wasn't wearing gloves when touching my cone.. am i supposed to eat that?! I was kind of in shock and didnt say anything. My mind was too busy thinking of all that was wrong and couldn't even speak. I paid for the ice cream and dumped it at the black trash can right outside the door. On my drive home i snapped out of my shock and realized i should have just walked out and said, "NO, THANK YOU" wish i could have, but I apparently don't react fast enough. Never going back again. I've been to Loard's before, and this location was just okay. It's located right next to and shares the space with mountain mikes. If you want ice cream, they'll give it to you for sure, it's just not the best. Cones are good and their ice cream satisfies. I suggest getting a waffle cone. The big thing is that the owners definitely have to pour a lot of time into mountain mikes opposed to the ice cream store that happens to be connected to the pizza joint. Its tough to work two with limited people, I'm sure, but customers definitely notice. We will be back should we be in the area and wanting some ice cream! read more

I am SO disappointed! What happened to Loard's? I have a feeling it's under new ownership. First of all, about a third of the ice cream looked like it had freezer burn on it. We stood there for a couple minutes and one of the pizza guys finally came over after ringing people out and handing money and didn't wash his hands. He did put on gloves... part of the way? I ordered a 1 scoop sugar cone and the ice cream was literally level with the top of the cone. MAYBE a quarter inch above the top of the cone and flat. Seriously! On top of that, the tables were dirty and the pizza area was a disaster with garbage on almost every table. ocan't believe how dirty it was. This used to be our go to ice cream place but those days may be over of this is the new standard. Update to respond - I didn't get a refund so that must have been someone else. Great friendly service. Great selection of flavors. Great parking lot with plenty of spaces. I always get the chocolate marble when I go to Loard's and I love it. I can't really comment on the tastes of the other flavors. I went in today, masked, at about 12:30pm for my favorite ice cream - Loard's caramel cashew. The server, who had been on the Mountain Mike's side of the store unmasked, came over and took my order. I said, "Don't you wear masks?" to which she said something like "Uh huh". I actually thought that meant she forgot and would put one on, but instead she started to scoop, so I said "Aren't you going to put on a mask?". Her answer was, "I had the shot." I did check the Alameda County website to see if masks are still required at places like this and according to what I read I believe they are but even if they are not I prefer to patronize businesses that continue to mask for everyone's protection. I told her that I had the vaccination also and that I did not want the cone. I am sad to say they have lost a customer. read more

Loard's ice cream is always delicious and this location did not disappoint. Shared a hot fudge sundae ($7.95) with my husband. They put hot fudge and peanuts on the bottom of the cup, fill it to the brim with vanilla ice cream and then cover it with more hot fudge, peanuts, whipped cream and cherries. Perfection and yumminess! The guy behind the counter was friendly enough, but unfortunately didn't look like he was enjoying his job all that much. I was super stoked to be revisiting Loard's after a several year (10+ ?) hiatus. Sadly, it just didn't live up to my own hype! I will confess, I was hyping it up to be with Fenton's which really may not be fair, but Loard's really fell short. I had some chocolate ice cream in store, which was good, but the real disappointment was in the toasted almond ice cream. We got really excited to see that they had some (Fenton's fave), and sprung for a pint (or was it a quart?) to bring home. The disappointment was in that the ice cream was really just vanilla with toasted almonds added in. Yes, I guess this is technically toasted almond; however, a far cry from the intense almond flavor that Fenton's offers. I'll be back if I want some chocolate ice cream, but that's only if for some reason I don't feel like getting a pint of Ben + Jerry's instead. read more

Don't be fooled by the looks! The store is old and has this 1950s-1970s theme but the portion size, price, and service is great! I am a HUGE fan of ice cream and I've had a ton of gourmet ice cream in the bay. I usually do not like to go to chains because a lot of them don't serve good quality ice cream. I was actually dragged into the store by my friend and didn't plan to get anything. But I saw they had pistachio and ube so I tried the pistachio--IT REALLY SURPRISED ME. Unlike a lota pistachio flavors out there, this one doesnt have a super artificial taste. For the price of $4.95, I got two huge scoops. I couldn't finish and had to rush home to freeze the rest. I'd say this is probably on my top 5 ice cream shop list for pistachio. read more

So we have been coming to this ice cream place for a while now and this cashier gave me big bullshit. I ordered a small ice cream for my daughter for a price of $3.28 and I ordered the same cup for a dollar more so that is around $4.58. The cashier's argument was she was younger that's why she charged my daughter cup a dollar less. It does not make sense to me at all. The employees must have hated my family and I because we came in 15 min before they closed lol. There was maybe about 16 of us and there was one employee that helped us out while the others just waited in the back. I'm not sure what they were doing back there but the guy who helped us was helpful with giving samples, scooping our ice cream, and also ringing out separate transactions. Prices are reasonable for the quantity you get and they have a great variety of flavors.. from coffee to ube (purple yam) to rainbow to banana.. they got it all. I definitely prefer these types of ice cream parlors rather than settling for baskin robins or something. There is lots of parking but the place itself is a little compact. Love love love the ice cream from Loard's, I grew up going to the one in Castro Valley. Now I sometimes go this one. I got a single scoop Ube and single scoop cookie n cream in waffles cones. The ice cream was delicious but unfortunately did not feel comfortable eating the cone due to the man who served us was not wearing gloves and his hands did not look the cleanest. Did try to "get over it" but even my boyfriend did not feel comfortable with the gloveless service. Hopefully in the future this place will practice better sanitary procedures. read more

This is the best Ice-cream place so far in east bay. I guess they have multiple shops in bay area. I visited this place because of my friend's recommendation. I am glad i followed his words and hence passing to other fellow yelp users. Place is extremely clean and staff is very friendly. Quantity is more than any other ice-cream joints. I asked for one scoop and looking at quantity, I thought it is two scoop. :) They have many flavors, some of them are really unique. Best part is quality. I tried few flavors.. quality is the best. This shop is joined with another famous pizza shop. so you can have family event. But if you are ice-cream lover, i will recommend you to visit at least once. read more

Not memorable ice cream at all. The service was great and very patient, allowing me to try around 10 different flavors; I realistically should've just used this as the ice cream that I ate, because I never ended up finding a flavor I was particularly keen about. Based on my sampling, I ended up choosing the raspberry marble flavor, thinking it was the best of what I sampled. This is normally one of my favorite ice cream flavors, but I couldn't finish it, the taste got worse and worse as I kept eating, and the berry bits that were inside only made matters worse. It's possible that I should have just gone for a simple chocolate, but if you're going to sell a bunch of flavors, they all have some good taste. This place is attached to a Mountain Mikes and is a cute little ice cream shop. They have lots of flavors and the staff were very patient with us and let us try multiple flavors. I thought the prices were a bit high but it turns out that they give very very generous scoops. I ordered 2 scoops but couldn't even finish 1 scoop. Next time we go I'll probably get a child's size. I was a bit concerned that while we were eating our ice cream the staff discovered that the ice cream case was not shut properly and all the ice cream in it was not a the proper storage temperature. I did hear one of the guys mutter something about possibly having to throw all the ice cream out, but instead they cranked it up and it got cold really fast. read more

We frequent Loard's or Meadowlark about once a month to treat the kids. We've been going to one of the 2 locations for about 3 years now. Over the past 4 or so months, the service at this Loard's location has degraded to the point where we've decided to find a new ice cream place to treat the kids. First, the last 2 times we went in, the ice cream looked freezer burned and/or like it had been defrosted and re-frozen a few times. My ice cream was still good enough to eat, but definitely closer to a 3/5 instead of the usual 5/5. My wife got a sundae with chocolate syrup. I took a bite, thought it tasted funny but didn't think anything of it (sundae's aren't my thing). She took a bite, and thought it tasted strange too. She didn't end up eating any of the sundae. Something with the chocolate syrup tasted almost like coffee grounds or something. Very strange. Lastly, the service. This last time we were in, we stood and waited for 5 minutes, while the 4 people behind the pizza/ice cream counter tried to figure out who was capable of scooping ice cream. 3 of the workers kept looking at us, while the 4th who appeared to be the manager (or maybe new owner?) was trying to get them organized it seemed? Finally he came over, acted very awkward, and ultimately helped us. Needless to say, we are pretty disappointed. We may try to go back another time, but we'll likely wait to see if reviews improve on Yelp before going back. read more
