Love this place! It made a real lobster roll lover out of me and my wife Already planning our next trip back! The OG Lobster roll , hot and slathered in butter is amazing! Very cool food hall with a lowkey vibe. This place is perfect for meeting friends for a drink or for pleasing indecisive eaters

I love visiting the Carlsbad Windmill Food Hall and decided to give Lobster Lab a try. Their menu isn't very large, I went with the Smoked Salmon but unfortunately it wasn't very good. It lacked flavor, and there was very little salmon for the price you pay. I went with a group, and they ordered the Lobster Roll and Shrimp Roll and had the same feedback. The sandwiches were mostly bread, with very little shrimp or lobster inside. The prices are also pretty high for the amount of seafood you actually get, which made the experience even more disappointing. The cashier was friendly, and the food hall itself is great goid ambiance because of the variety of dining options available, but this spot just wasn't for us. I'm glad I gave it a try once, but I wouldn't go back. Unfortunately, it just didn't feel like a good value for the price.

We ordered The crab roll and the lobster roll and a cup of lobster bisque. We spent 120 dollars for our meal but it was worth it. They have 3 sizes of the rolls and we got the medium For both rolls and they put a lot of meat !!! It was very very delicious. They have to make the order so it took them 15 min to make it. This place is located in a food hall and they have live bands. It's across the Carlsbad outlet, so very convenient. It's a casual vibe, find your table or share a table with somebody and pick up your food when your buzzer is on. Plenty of parking, noise level moderate ( without the band playing).

The Lobster Lab is located in the Windmill Food Hall. They not only serve lobster-related menu items. I got the premium tuna melt sandwich and it was very much worth it to me. The portion size was huge! It was the most beautiful tuna melt I've ever seen, packed with tuna and veggies. It came with a side of hot sauce packets. There's not much of an ambiance. It's just a stall/booth at the food hall. You'd order, get a device that buzzes when your order is ready, and find an available table at the food hall to enjoy the meal. Overall, I enjoyed my sandwich and I'd gladly come back to have it again.

Visiting the area and glad to have found this place. Friendly and helpful service. Ambiance is decent. It's in a food hall. Deliciousness! Standard portion sizes. We all enjoyed our orders. I recommend not pouring the butter entirely (like I did) since the bread is already dipped and soaked in butter. Would recommend this place! Little one really enjoyed his lobster grilled cheese and ate all of it with the side of lobster bisque.

The lobster roll looks much bigger than it looks. Melts in your mouth yummm. The service was fine; I think the person was new because someone was standing by him for a while. Ambiance of windmill is great and will go multiple times.

Delicious! We had the lobster roll and clam chowder. The lobster roll was SO good! The bread as perfection. Not just some dried out hoagie roll. It was toasted by soft and fluffy. I thought the lobster portion was generous. The calm chowder paired well. Not the best bowl I've ever had, but still good. You order at the counter and get a buzzer to pick up your food. The guy at the counter was cordial enough. It is a food hall, so there were lots of choices of cuisine. I'm glad we choose Lobster Lab. There are QR codes at each table so you can order there. Although we ordered at the counter ($30), we did check out the QR code. We were disappointed to see that for Lobster Lab, that the roll was cheaper ($29) in the app (no added fees to use the app). A dollar cheaper, but still a dollar! Overall, I'd go again.

YO this place was AMAZING. I totally lagged on writing this review, but I had to come back and give it a rave. First off, I was helped by the nicest lady behind the counter. She was so sweet and gave great recommendations. She probably upsold me and honestly... no regrets because the food was fantastic. I ended up going with the XL Lobster Roll and Caviar. The lobster roll was creamy, tender, tangy, fresh, and delicious. She was absolutely right about splurging for the extra lobster. The bun was perfectly toasted--soft and buttery in the middle with crispy edges. 10/10. The caviar came on brioche with herbed cream cheese, shaved egg, and chives. SO good. I already love anything with caviar, but the flavor combo here made it feel extra special. 10/10. It's also located inside a fun food hall with tons of different food options. It was honestly hard to decide what to try, but I followed my lobster-loving heart. Great spot for a group, or just to grab food, drinks, and people-watch. I was only in the area for the week, but I'll definitely remember this place next time I'm in Carlsbad.

This was my third time coming. I got the lobster roll in an attempt to try Something new each time. It was pricey but as an occasional treat, worth it. Especially since they don't skimp on toppings. I got the regular and it was over flowing with shrimp. The larger with 6 oz would have been too much. I worry that the prices will scare most costumers away. Every time I went they had the shortest wait/lone of all the food spots in the food hall. Lowering the prices by a couple bucks might hurt profit per item but bring in more customers. The food was great though so I do think it's worth it so far. Next time I'm in town I'll be going again.

Lobster Lab at the Windmill Food Hall is worth checking out. I went with the lobster roll and it was really good. Fresh, well put together, and satisfying. If you're walking through the food hall and trying to figure out what to get, this is a solid choice.

I came here while doing some shopping and was hungry. Lobster lab is inside Windmill Farms food court and there are a lot of great restaurants here! I was craving something seafood and the crab roll sounded delicious. Crab roll (regular) - $22, the portions are huge! They may look smaller in pictures but I can assure you that you are getting your moneys worth. Flavor was refreshing and delicious Clam Chowder (cup) - $12, piping fresh and hot, the clam chowder comes with 2 pieces of their delicious bread. Also worth the money in my opinion! I will definitely stop by again next time to try their lobster roll! Service was great and the man working was kind and patient with everyone. He even brought out an order for a customer.

We are huge lobster/seafood lovers so definitely wanted to check out the Lobster Lab on our trip to Carlsbad. First off loved the food hall and the ability to get food items from different spots and make your own meal. I got the clam chowder and it enjoyed it but wasn't the best I've ever had. My husband got the lobster grilled cheese he felt there was too much cheese compared to the lobster portion and really did not enjoy the lobster bisque. He felt the lobster bisque had a strange sweet flavor to it and lacked lobster flavor and meat.

OK, this almost got derailed! We saw the Lobster Lab (a weakness of this New Englander) and walked into - a gourmand's paradise of small boutique restaurants, colocated with a big-arse bar/patio. Everything looked fabulous (as it does when hungry!) A blood-orange beer helped me focus, back on the lobster rolls. And oh, were they done to perfection. Lightly toasted rolls with a hint of sweetness, lemon, butter, lobster and love. My son had shrimp, but I am not responsible for his eccentricities... Soooo good! Just have to stay focused!

The Windmill Food Hall is a quaint place that I didn't know existed. I was in the mood for seafood and saw this restaurant on Yelp. So, I drove over to check it out. The customer service was pleasant and I was greeted with a smile! I ordered the lobster roll (bestseller) and a Sprite. I wish they had more drink selections but all was well. The food was presented nicely and I was excited to eat up. The taste was good but the lobster was a bit chewy which subtracted from my enjoyment of the roll. The bread was yummy but a bit too much for the "normal" lobster serving. Yes, the roll was pricey @$26 but hey I wanted lobster! Would I go again? I'm unsure at this time but it was worth trying. read more

Best lobster roll I've ever had. Bar none. I would have laughed at my older self if I tried to sell me a $26 lobster roll .... It was worth it. The freshness of the lobster amidst the toasty buttery roll was perfectly augmented by the zip of lemon juice. Douse it with healthy drip of clarified butter for pure delectable heaven. read more

Solid 4.5! Lobster Lab serves really good lobster rolls. Very flavorful too, not like those places that serves bland lobster rolls. Everything you see on my picture is all mouthwateringly delicious. When you order, expect to wait about 20-30 mins for it to be ready. At least that gives you time to look for seats if the food hall is super crowded. Bon appetite! read more

The small stall is inside the Windmill Food Hall. The lady who helped us was very patient in our questions trying to make up our minds about what to try. The lobster bisque, salad, and roll did not disappoint. Bread was rightfully buttered and plenty of lobster in each serving. A must have here is their lobster grilled cheese. I've traveled all through the northeast and sampled a wide variety of lobster rolls. This place, hands down, has the best lobster roll I have ever eaten. I ordered the regular size lobster roll and it had a generous amount of lobster in a toasted brioche roll, top with just the right amount of garnishment and clarified butter. For what you get the price is not out of line. It is excellent. read more

Found this hidden gem by searching for a lunch spot close to where we are camping at Carlsbad State Beach. It's close enough to bike to and the food is amazing! Was recently here with a group of my girlfriends for the weekend. We decided on visiting this spot based on their current reviews. The food did not disappoint. After a long bike ride from Carlsbad to Encinitas, it was the perfect spot for the BEST lobster rolls! The bread was delicious-sweet and buttery and the lobster was just as good. Absolutely delicious lobster rolls! Honestly I had never been into the windmill building off the 5 freeway in Carlsbad and I am glad I did. It currently houses a pretty classy food court with some really good food options. I tried Lobster Lab, and the food did not disappoint. I only tried the Lobster Roll, but it was fresh and came out fast. It is counter service and you sit where you find a table. At the time I went it wasn't too busy so I did not have a hard time finding a table. It wasn't too warm inside with all the fans on the ceiling and it's proximity to the coast made the temperature really comfortable. This is a great place and I will definitely be coming back for more lobster! read more

I decided on Lobster Lab partly because of the good Yelp reviews. I wasn't disappointed. I got a cold lobster roll to go. I've never had a lobster roll that was as generous with chunks of lobster. The server was friendly and the lobster roll was packaged well enough to not fall apart on the way back to the resort. I would definitely go again. read more

LOBSTER LAB didn't disappoint in taste. It was buttery and full of lobster. It's on a brioche bread so bread was soft and buttery. I opted for butter than mayo. I got the regular size for $24 plus tip so it was a $30 sandwich , the price was the negative but it's real lobster. Worth the price - once in a while - treat yourself! It's located in the windmill hall where there are other food options. They don't have gluten free options. They said nothing in menu can be eaten if you have celiac due to cross contamination. Glad they are honest about it. read more

Service was really good. The girl at the counter was super nicely and personable. However the food is just not good. We ordered a lobster roll and a crab roll. Neither lobster nor crab tasted remotely fresh... but the worst part is the amount of salt they put into the seafood. Both were so incredibly salty that we couldn't eat them at all. I'm not sure if it's the remaining salt from seawater, or they're trying to cover up how unfresh the seafood is by adding an asinine amount of salt. Either way, we didn't like the food at all and will not buy again. =( read more

I ordered the regular lobster roll with garlic butter and a cup of clam chowder. The guy who took my order was super friendly. I took my order to go. The cup of clam chowder was the size of a bowl in my opinion. It came with toast - which was good - and I didn't miss not having crackers. The lobster roll was delicious and full of lobster. The only sad part was that the lil container holding the melted garlic butter got flipped on its side in the lobster roll container and it all spilled out and the roll soaked it up like a sponge. You could literally squeeze the melted butter out of the bread. At least it only soaked in the bottom 1/3-1/2 of the roll so i could still eat the part with the lobster in it. I would go back! The food hall was awesome - lots of tables and room inside and outside to eat even though it was a busy saturday night. read more

We ordered the normal sized lobster roll and it was very skimpy, just scraps of lobster meat. There were no large chunks/claw chunks. Didn't try the XL lobster roll, but it might be normal compared to other places. They used an extra large bread piece and too much butter to mask the sad lobster. Overall, the most disappointing lobster roll I've ever had, at a standard price of $24. My wife got the clam chowder bowl ($13) and that was actually pretty good. A fair amount of clams and very creamy. It was served with a few pieces of toast and it just made us wanting oyster crackers. If you're looking for a lobster roll, this isn't the place for it. read more

I'm a sucker for Lobster Rolls, Lobster Bisque and Lobster Mac and Cheese. Pretty much anything lobster. Decided to give this a try as I'm at Carlsbad Outlet frequently but never stopped at Windmill Food Court. Lobster Roll was tasty. Overdid the butter. I mean you can't take a bite without butter falling out on your plate "or shirt" if you're not careful. Price isn't cheap and there's the minor hangup. Don't get me wrong it's a restaurant worthy Lobster Roll but it's a food court and not a restaurant. I'd put it on par with Kings Fish House almost next door. Kings also has a great Lobster Roll. It's $10 more but you get fries and sit down service. So if they had fries (small bag of chips $3) the price is only a few dollars more for kings. Without the crowd noise and heat of the warm food hall. Anyways I still give it four stars but yeah drop a few bucks off or throw in chips and it would be right. read more

We lost a lobster roll spot in San Jose and so I decided to try this place out. Honestly probably one of the best lobster rolls I've had in a while. I also tried their crab roll and thought that was amazing. Very generous with portions and the customer service was amazing. The spot is located in the Windmill Food Hall which has a great selection of food. Best place for a family as it provides plenty of seating and parking. read more

First time here and food was great!!! We ordered lobster roll, and lobster grilled cheese. Very buttery bread and flavorful! Customer service was also great which is a big plus for me. Definitely coming back and highly recommend to try for anyone who likes lobster. read more

They have many interesting beers on tap and a good selection of unique wines. I have had the Shoots Japanese lager before and it is a good one. I went with a dark Mexican lager this time and loved it. This is primarily an outdoor seating place. Order at the counter and grab a seat. Get the poke.

We were pleasantly surprised with how they took care of our accommodations especially since there were 16 of us going to their restaurant. When were greeted and seated right away. The food selection here is great. Different types of crabs and other hot dishes that are different from the ones I've had here in San Diego. Staff was very attentive and took care of us the whole time. This location also has pretty good parking too. Highly recommend this spot and hope to visit it again when we go to Carlsbad.

At first the main dish was really good, however after a while it was hurting my mouth after eating it. They don't offer that many vegetables with it either. Overall the dish sauce and seasoning was amazing but i would maybe get something different another time.

My husband and I were out looking for phở, but while wandering around we came across this cozy little spot--and we're so glad we stopped in! From the moment we walked in, the owner greeted us with a big smile and such a warm, friendly vibe. You can just tell he loves what he does, and it made the whole experience feel so inviting. We decided to try the clam chowder, and let me just say... wow. It came out hot and hearty, served with two pieces of bread that were buttery, crispy, and absolutely perfect for dipping. l have discovered a small place in Carlsbad today . l have no idea that you can make a such a delicious lobster sandwich, perfectly done with perfect combination of ingredients put together to sensationalize your taste buds , it was delicious . fist not knowing how l would like it , l ordered the small size , but after enjoying it immensely l ordered one to go . it's really delicious and fulfilling . l tired their clam chowder while l waited and with a touch of Tabasco and fresh lemon it just hit the spot . give them a try next time you are in the area, it will not disappoint. read more

We ordered the lobster grilled cheese and the regular lobster sandwich, and both were absolutely delicious. However, if you're stuck on which to choose, I personally recommend the lobster grilled cheese--it was the standout for me! If you're looking for a place that will always hit the spot, this is it. We made the trip from LA just to try the Lobster Roll, Lobster Grilled Cheese, and Caviar--and it was totally worth it. If you haven't tasted these amazing flavors yet, this spot should be at the top of your list. The portions are generous and the dishes are as beautifully presented as they are delicious. We're big fans of Lobster Lab! Also, they provide moist towelettes, which is something I haven't come across anywhere else in the U.S. read more

The food is very delicious, fresh and high in quality. I loved that they didn't try to sell but rather really interested in what I like and dislike. We came here from LA just to eat Lobster Roll, Lobster Grilled Cheese and Caviar. If you haven't tried these flavors before, this place must be your first stop. Menus and portions are very filling. The presentation is as wonderful as the flavors. We love Lobster Lab! They are also giving moist towelette, I've never see this anywhere in USA. However, the lobster roll was a letdown. It was bland and lacking the bold flavor you'd expect. To spend $80 on dinner, we expected a lot better. It was a big disappointment. read more

Good food! Nice service! Couldn't tell that this establishment was already open at Windmill. LOVE the clam chowder- it's on the creamier side like New England style (as opposed to San Francisco style). Hard to find, and happy that this place is here! read more
