Dave & I had a wonderful, delicious and unplanned dinner at 400 East early last night. Our server, Ruby, was at the top of her game! She never missed a beat, caring for all her tables without having to think twice about what she was doing. Like she was born to do this! (oh, hell, no...nobody should ever say that. Aim higher! Ruby was a doll, she has a gorgeous smile, big, beautiful eyes and was just so friendly and accommodating to her patrons. I started with a Mango Lemonade Spritzer...so light and refreshing. Dave had a light beer or two. We split a huge Caesar salad, anchovies on the side, please. I ate a few, Dave stuck out his tongue! Our entrees looked amazing! Mine was the bRaised Short Ribs over garlic mashed with fresh green beans (undercooked, but okay by me). Dave had the Scallop & Butternut Squash casserole. He did not like the balsamic glaze on top but ate around it and cleaned the plate. My short ribs were fork tender and the gravy was superb. I took half home and will be my lunch in a few minutes! No desserts as we were like overstuffed sausages when we left. Very nice place for a good meal with great staff, attention to detail and patrons needs. Stopped in for lunch today and was seated immediately. Seating is a combination of tables and booth and there is a large bar area. Drink orders were taken and delivered quickly. We ordered the turkey wrap with fries, the Rueben and Tennessee barbecue burger both with onion rings. Our orders arrived quickly and looked delicious. The turkey wrap was large with plenty of turkey, bacon and lettuce. The fries were perfectly fried, crispy and nice and brown. The Rueben was filled with plenty of pastrami, Swiss cheese, Russian dressing, sauerkraut all between two perfectly grilled rye toast slices. All the ingredients came together to make a great sandwich. The burger was ordered medium rare and was a little more on the rare side but was still well seasoned and had a nice crunch to it when you bit into it. It came with cheddar cheese, bacon, and whiskey caramelized onions which gave the burger an amazing smokey, barbecued flavor. It was served on a large, soft bun. Onion rings for both the Rueben and burger weee well fried and crispy.. A good restaurant which will require a return trip to try out more menu items. We had a situation in July during the busy season when it was crowded and we had a tough time getting a couple drinks but the host Noel saw us uncomfortable and she went out of her way to get us our frosty beers. While visiting friends on the Cape we first went to 400 for a drink and the NBA finals. Go Celtics! Later that week we returned for dinner. The restaurant was packed and the menu has variety. 1. the server didn't know the substitute sides, so we were forced into fries or onion rings. 2. our order was entered incorrectly and instead of French dip came out as a cold pastrami sandwich. 3. after correcting to order, we received French dip with no cheese. 4. the second round of drinks were also incorrect...the same order, nothing changed! after the server informed the manager of the issues, he never approached the table or asked if everything was ok. Later we talked to the manager about the mistakes, which he brushed off and told us a French dip is a cold sandwich with no cheese. Forget what the menu reads! We had a weekend wedding in Cape Cod. For our rehearsal dinner, we came to 400 East. From the moment we contacted them, they were nothing but accommodating to us. We set everything up with Rich. He laid out all our options. He let us know the two different pricing points depending on how many guests we had. We ended up with over 30 people, so they gave us the back room so we had private space away from the rest of the customers. Ruby was our server. She did a fantastic job. She was right on top of everything the whole evening. Was constantly checking in on us to see how things were going and if we needed anything. The one thing I've learned about Cape Cod is that most places you go, the food is good. 400 East was no exception. We had three main choices plus salad, rolls, cheese tray, and fruit. Chicken fingers are good, but a little dry. They gave us the most amazing buffalo sauce to go with it. I'm not sure if it was homemade or a jar, but it was amazing. I took a piece of bread to clean my plate with the excess sauce. My favorite was the sausage and peppers. They cut them in shapes to allow all the flavor to seep in. They used red and yellow peppers. I've never been to a restaurant that used yellow peppers. I think restaurants everywhere should start doing that. One of the best sausage and peppers I've ever eaten. My fiancé thinks it's because they added a little red sauce into the mix. We also had penne à la vodka. I liked it, but some of my guests from New York kept complementing how good it tasted. They were all surprised that Italian food in Cape Cod could be this good. Weather going for dinner or hosting a family party, I highly suggest 400 East. Five stars on the service and hospitality, four stars for the food. read more

Me and my husband are in town on vacation and decided to stop somewhere close to where we're staying for a quick lunch, WORST IDEA EVER!!!! This was the absolute WORST food either of us have ever ordered! My husband's "Tennessee BBQ burger" was charred and burnt on the outside but somehow cold on the inside?? and I cannot even begin to describe the horrible, absolutely disgusting taste of the french dip !!! Friday, October 6th We got there early about 5:10 and we're seated right away. Dad ordered a Chardonnay, hubby ordered a beer and I had a Cosmo. They had prime rib as one of the specials. Neither Dad nor I have had prime rib in years, so we both decided to go with it. Sides were a baked potato and green beans, but there are other choices available as well. Hubby had the spinach salad with sea scallops. I shared some of my prime rib with him too. The prime rib was absolutely delicious. I ordered mine rare and it was perfect - tender, moist and tasty, and Dad loved his version too. Hubby enjoyed his scallop salad. Marialen was our surver. She was very busy but checked on us often. It was a great dinner at 400 East! They do a wonderful job of keeping the noise level low with special ceiling tiles. It's nice to be able to hear each other talk without having to yell. Just attended a group dinner tonight. We were at least 25 and had fantastic service provided by Crystal. Apps were ordered in abundance and drinks were served promptly. YIKES! 400 East has been one of our go-to's for many years. We have even brought company when they come to visit but last night they were TOTALLY off. We ordered the special fried green tomatoes stuffed with crab meat, and a simple fish sandwich. After waiting 45 minutes with may excuses from our waitress including 'the kitchen is backed-up with take-out orders ????' (since when does take-out take priority over people in your restaurant?) The fish arrived on a burnt bun and green tomatoes stuffed with crab meat was a deep fried blob of tastelessness. Sorry we won't be back any time soon. And it was not even 1/2 full of customers. I have stopped in to the 400 East quite a few times recently. The ambiance is definately tavern style, no formalities here. The service from the staff is particularly attentive...many staff members have been in residence a long while, so you know that they take care of their employees. Rick, at the bar, always has a smile! Being a little mor adventurous, I've tried the chili (delicious), a few of salads (also perfection) and my husband and I loved the Mediterranean pizza. I'd been looking for a place with great pizza and I think I've found it! The portions are good, and there are quite a few different options in all categories, from appetizers to full entrees. We were greeted by the very friendly Stacey who, as we requested, seated us with our favorite waitress, Ruby. Let me tell you, Ruby has an amazing personality, is an amazing server and hard worker. If all servers were like her, nobody would ever have a reason to complain. My mother and I both had clam chowder. It was absolutely delicious. My mother had a lobster roll which she said was quite good and I had the salmon with cilantro butter with rice. It was as finely cooked a fish dish as I have ever had. Disappointed. Not at the food... but the attitude of Management. Ordered some food for my family. While vacationing on Cape Cod, my sister fell and broke her leg. She slipped down the stairs and broke her femur - was rushed to Brigham and Women's for emergency surgery. They've owned a condo up there for over 30 years. So, she's recuperating up there. I live in TX. I decided to buy her family a meal up there and she suggested this restaurant. They've been there many times and really liked it - a recommendation from a friend. I ordered what the family wanted and, while on the phone with the restaurant, I asked about desserts. The gal said they had chocolate lava cakes. My brother-in-law loves his ice cream (could see him sitting there with the cake and ice cream) and I thought they'd all enjoy these, so I ordered two (they were unaware - a surprise, I thought). The next day, when I was talking to them, I asked how the cakes were. "What cakes?" The restaurant forgot to bag them. Hey, people make mistakes. I call the restaurant and talk to a gal, who admitted this mistake (they saw the cakes sitting on the to-go counter after the meal was picked up). I asked for a credit on my card (it was only $12). She said only the Manager could do that and she (Manager) would call me next morning. No call. I call back the next day... again, whoever answers the phone is not empowered to credit my card and someone will call me back. After about 10 minutes, some gentleman calls and says he cannot credit me because it's been over 48 hours. Now... keep in mind that the REASON it's past 48 hours is because they never responded timely. He says they can give me cash (impossible, I live in TX) or my family can drive over there and get the cakes. Well, it's 20 minutes each way for them. Driving for 40 minutes didn't make any sense for 2 cakes. I did not yell or anything but let him know I was not happy and would be recounting this experience on YELP. I asked him why he wouldn't find customer experiences valuable. He says... "well, we don't read reviews anyway. We don't need them. We have our loyal customers and have been in business 35 years so we don't care about reviews". Clearly, they don't... 3 stars isn't anything to brag about. Empathy for my situation? Nope? Going above and beyond, considering the special circumstances? Nope. Just take it or leave it and we don't need you. They got my $102... and kept their lava cakes. Business's thrive when they treat ALL their customers with respect and compassion. 400 East seems to do that for only their loyal customers. Speaking of loyal customers, my sister put a negative rating on FB. Go on FB... see for yourself how this man treats people who have had a bad experience in his restaurant. The Owner accusing me of lying! Calls YELP a "scam"! Says all he wants are his locals. Oh.. and the locals... slamming my sister with expletives... names... I hope none of you ever fall and break your femur! It's not pleasant! Very adult! If how a restaurant treats customers - EVERY customer, not just their friends - is important to you, then consider my experience. We're in a pandemic.., my sister broke her leg and all I was trying to do was something special for her. Sure, mistakes happen. In business, it's how you react to mistakes. You know what a real restaurant does in this situation? They apologize and go above and beyond. I know this requires imagination and a passion to make things right but... maybe offer one free meal? Place was empty, should have been my first clue... we sat at the round table I. The front window, which we soon found out was ridden with flies... Appetizers were fine, coconut shrimp and chicken fingers Caesar salad was actually very cold and good. Entrees were: Margarita pizza, lobster Mac and cheese, omelette and seafood au gratin. The pizza crust was good but he sauce was terrible, advertised as a plum tomato sauce but was actually jarred tomato sauce. Had to scrape the sauce off to enact this. Lobster Mac wasn't too bad, lobster was a little rubbery Omelette looked great and my son said it tasted good but was missing the bacon Seafood - scallops were ok. But shrimp was not...
